XI: The NOT Date
Corpse exits my recording studio with me close behind. I walk after him and close the door behind us, hitting the light switch on the way out. I look up toward him and notice that he paused to wait for me to lead the way. I smile a little bit at his puppy dog nature. How cute.
"I was planning on making some pizza anyway so I already have dough made and my sauce is prepped. The sauce just needs to be heat up a little and I just need to actually make the pizza," I explain as we enter my kitchen. I didn't want him thinking we would have to wait to eat.
"What kind of person needs two fridges when they live alone," Corpse says looking around my kitchen.
"It's even harder to comprehend when you're a mediocre cook at best," I say with a laugh.
"And this island is huge. Jesus," He comments
"You're making me insecure..." I mumble and push my hair out my face. He stares at me in silence and rubs his neck awkwardly. I pull out the two containers for the pizza from the fridge and place them on counter.
"What kind of pizza do you like?" I ask.
"Can I be honest with you?" He whispers bring himself closer in the form of telling a secret.
"Yea?" I whisper back
"I kinda fuck with pinapple on pizza," he says laughing.
"Oh my god Corpse," I say slapping my forhead. I just shake my head and begin washing my hands when he takes a seat on one of the stools.
"Oh no you don't love bug. You get up and wash your hands too, you're helping," I say drying my hands on a towl in front of me.
"I can hardly cook how could I possibly help," he says making his way around the island to wash his hands.
"You're gonna stir the sauce," I say simply. I put the pot on my stove and hand him a wooden spoon.
"I don't want it to get stuck on my pan," I say as I take the dough out from the plastic it was wrapped in.
I then begin kneading the dough with my hands. "We can have half and half. I should have ham and pineapple slices already in my fridge and then my side I'll put my favorite stuff," I say.
"At least you didn't shut me down on my toppings," he says pouring the sauce into the small pot and stirring.
"I know how to judge in silence," I joke.
"Wanna see something neat?" I ask after finally finishing with the small lump in front of me.
"Sure," he says looking over.
I take my dough and toss it up and balance it on my finger to spin it. I then push my hands in the center, alternating to get it larger. Once it's done, I flop it on to the circular pan in front of me.
"Ta da!" I say excited.
"Mediocre cook she says," he mumbles.
"I picked it up when I was younger. My first job was at a pizzeria, " I explain.
"I'll stick to stirring, my basic cooking, and relying on ordering out," he comments, stirring aggressively for dramatic affect.
I chuckle to myself at his antics and glaze the crust with some butter and garlic. Afterward I then grab the pot from him, saying a quick thank you if course. I pour the sauce in and put all the toppings on humming a little song as I do it.
"You remind me of a disney princess," he says breaking the silence between us.
"Is that so?" I say with a smile as I pop the pan into the oven
"You're always singing or humming to yourself, you help out with foster dogs and cats, and you dance around. The only thing you miss is some kind of animal for sidekick," he says leaning back on the counter.
"Thank you...I think," I say giggle brushing my hair behind my ear.
"Hey siri/Okay google... set a timer for 20 minutes," I call out hoping my phone could hear me.
"Thanks for having me over for dinner," he says. His eyes squint again and I have associated the subtleness as him being happy.
"I don't mind hun. You're always welcome to join me," I say.
"I swear you're going to think I am an alcoholic. I promise that I am not. Do you want to drink some wine?" I say while pulling out a bottle from my built in storage holder.
"Red or white?" Ihe asks peeking over.
"I pulled out red wine but I can give you white," I say peaking into the unit.
"Red is fine. White messes with my throat," he explains.
"Ah. Gotcha," I nodd as I pour us some to drink.
"Yea," he says taking his glass.
"Hmm," I say as I think. I then laugh and throw a metal straw in it before he could try to drink from it.
"I keep forgetting you have a mask for some reason," I say shaking my head.
"Oh yea!" He says nodding
"Very committed to that," he then puts the staw under his mask to sip at his drink. I look as has the straw under his mask and try my best to not laugh.
"Let's go to the sofa," I say and motion for him to follow.
"Ahh," I sigh as I lean into my sofa. I tilt my head back and let out a yawn. I feel the sofa dip next to me and I open my one eye to get a glance at him.
"Thanks for coming over on short notice," I say sitting up and hugging a pillow to my chest.
"I enjoy your company. It's not awkward if we aren't at a hundred and ten percent all the time. It's nice to have someone to just enjoy the fact that they are with me," he says and then clears his throat. A habit he has that I started to notice.
"I'm sorry for your loss," he says randomly.
"Oh yea," I say frowning. "Thanks..." I mumble temembering everything again.
"Sorry to bring that up so suddenly. I just rememberee about it because we are drinking," he says awkwardly.
"I'll have to come to terms with losing Harris eventually," I say sipping on my wine
"Harris?" He saye confused
"Harris was my ex boyfriend, " I say lifting my head up to see a reaction
"I didn't even know you were dating someone at some point," he says confused.
"We kept it pretty hushed. He didn't want to be known. We broke up a couple of months ago because of me being famous," I say sadly.
"His loss," he says brushing my hair back. His eyes squint up again causing me to smile.
"I think I am going through even more emotions than just one of him dying. He was my first ever boyfriend so it is also my first ever breakup I was trying to process," I ramble.
"You lie," he says shocked
"I lie?" I say confused.
"There is no way you have only had one boyfriend. Thats hard to believe," He says shaking his head.
"Why is that hard to believe?" I ask confused
"I mean you're gorgeous," he says in a matter of fact tone.
"Oh! Thank you," I say but this time I can't help but let the blush raise to my cheeks. I was too tired to force to hide my feelings.
"I'm being serious though. I was just this annoying theatre girl and I was rather average. I actually asked my boyfriend out and panicked when he said yes because I didn't plan that far ahead," I say laughing remembering the day I got the guts to say anything.
"Don't take offense to this but since I know you as a massive flirt I just figured you'd have guys falling at your feet," he says fiddling with his straw.
"Oh shut it corpse," I say covering my face in embarrasment and throwing one of my fluffy pillows at him
" ow fuck!" He says leaning forward and grabbing at his one eye. He places his wine glass on the table and rubs at his eye
"Oh god no what did I do?!" I say standing up and placing my glass on the coffee table as well.
"I have something in my eye. You didn't hurt me with the pillow I just think a fuzzy flew in," he said rubbing at his eye. "Ugh ow," he mumbles to himself
"Wait right here," I quickly go to my kitchen and wet the edge of a napkin. I rush back to him and see him with his head leaned back on my couch.
"Aw honey buns I am so sorry," I say coming closer
"How comfortable are you with me?" I ask
"Pretty comfortable?" He says confused.
I straddle his lap and tilt his head toward me and begin dabbing the wet napkin on his eye. He clears his throat and from what little expression I can comprehend he seems shocked.
"Im gonna need you to open this eye quickly so I can see if I can get it," I say quietly seeing as there is no point to speak loudly while I am so close to him.
His eye slightly opens and with the napkin dab away the small piece of fluff that shouldn't be in there. I then blow a little to ease it and get his eyes to water to soothe the pain he probably felt. The his face slowly turns a deep shade of red.
"Aw baby are you embarrased," I tease.
His hands move from besides him and he suddenly slides then up my thighs and onto my waist, causing me to freeze. He then tightens his grip on my hips and he squints his eyes. Not in the normal smiling fashion I have gotten used to seeing. Rather as a challenge.
"And if I am not," he says.
I put the napkin down and run my hands from his chest to his shoulders and lean forward to whisper in his ear. "It's going to take a lot more than that to get to me, dear. I've dealt with this kind of stuff on set," I purr into his ear.
Suddenly my back is pushed into my sofa and he traps both of my wrists with his one hand above my head. His other hand is next to my face as he props himself up over me.
"Is that so?" He says bringing his face close go mine.
"Chicken out," I tease, wrapping my legs around his waist to pull him closer.
"I don't think I will," he says. His voice was more raspy though so I could tell he was nervous.
We hold a staring contest and I sit and take in how he looks. "You look handsome with a beanie but I think I like your curls more," I comment staring up at him.
A loud ring gets us to turn our attention from eachother and to my table. My phone's alarm for the pizza finally going off.
"I should get the pizza," I mumble and bite my lip out of nervousness.
He let's out a sigh and gets up letting go of my wrist on his way up.
"Did you want more? If not im gonna take the glasses back while im at it," I say motioning to our wine glasses
"Yea im done," he nodds his head, going back to our previously calm vibe.
I take the glasses to the kitchen and place them in the sink. I glance into the over to see our pizza came out perfect. I grab some mits and pull it out and begin cutting it.
"How many pieces do you want hun?" I yell out to him.
"Two please," he calls back.
I put our pizza slices on a plate and my way back over to the sofa. Corpse has his pillow he was snuggling previously on his lap. I'm guessing so the plate won't burn him.
"I'm thinking I can turn on some youtube and we can sit back to back with our feet propped up on the arm rests," I say with a laugh.
"Sounds like a good idea," he says turning. I place his plate on the pillow he has in front of him and then grab the remote on my way to my side. I notice him reach for his mask but respect his privacy as I sit down.
"Cheers" he says with a laugh. From the corner of my eye I see he has his pizza folded and reached out at a right angle so I can tap my slice on it.
I giggle as I mummble a cheers and hit our slices together. We listen to one of my favorite youtubers in the background as we munch on our pizza.
"Deadass I would have pizza served on my wedding day," he says randomly.
I almost choke on my pizza after wanting to laugh so hard. Which then spirals into an uncontrollable giggle fit because of me almost dying.
"Sorry I just wasn't expecting that. I could see you doing that too," I add .
"Yea. I'll have it Hawaiian pizza themes," he says monotone
"You might just have to have it in Hawaii instead. You couldn't possibly get away with your fiancé agreeing to something like that," I argue biting into my pizza.
"If I find the right weirdo who matches my level I could possibly get them to agree," he ponders chewing on his own pizza as well
"I guess your right. Id get married in Hawaii. I dont know if thats too much of a cliche though," I say on the subject of marriage
"I think Paris would be a cliche," he counters
"Yea...maybe. I saw so many couples I wanted to barf," I say recalling my trip I just got back from
"You say that as a bitter single person," he points out.
"Over my own home and exposing me like that. Very true though. Its hard to not be bitter when love hates you," I complain
"It doesn't hate you it just stood you up until you find a new guy or girl. I never really thought about you liking girls. Man now I have to worry about a babe taking you from me woulnt I?" He says joking
"Love bug Im already yours. You can't see me but add a wink to that haha," I say noting our seating arrangement
He just chuckles at the goofiness of our convo.
