Pipes McLean... Part II

Hello y'all!

(I really don't know why I keep saying y'all. I'm not even from the south!)

So I was scrolling through tumblr today, looking for textposts to reblog on my PJO blog (@moonlxces !!!) and I realized something. This something has bugged me for a while, but I think I'm just now coming to terms with it. This something is:

THE FANDOM KEEPS MAKING PIPER SEEM LIKE A FANGIRL!

Back when I actually still read PJO fanfics (now I tend to just reread the same 4 old ones lmao) I would always notice Piper hardly appeared. And when she did, she was either 1. Helpless and annoying, or 2. A fangirling matchmaker.

I've already touched on the helpless aspect in an earlier chapter. I don't think I can talk about it anymore, because everytime I say "helpless", I get the song from Hamilton in my head.

(It is my favorite song from the musical, so...)

So number 2 it is.

This OOC way of writing Pipes makes no sense to me. The whole point of Piper's character is that she goes against the shipping, fangirlish mold that Aphrodite's children are supposed to fit into. She is not someone who is going to squeal over Percabeth or any other ship. She's the exact opposite, actually - she's down-to-earth and tomboyish, and doesn't get worked up over things.

Not that I have anything against people who do squeal over ships. But that's not Piper.

Even the Riordan wiki agrees:

Piper is not your typical daughter of Aphrodite. She cares less about romance and more about just having fun and hanging out.

Anyway, that's all I have to say for now. I'm gonna go watch Rise of the Guardians. Bye y'all.
