Rocky Jungle Zone

Sonic and Y/N are racing against Moss who's swinging vines very fast.

"Ha! Not bad, old man! I thought we lost you a mile ago!" Sonic grinned.

"Lost? You came to me to find the way." Moss smiled slyly.

"Not what I meant, you walking fortune cookie."

"Just go with it, bro."

Sonic and Y/N then ran and skated through the lake while Moss landed on the log. Then comes the spin dash and more swinging as they race through the finish line where Mighty and Ray are waiting for them as Sonic and Y/N skid to a stop on the sand.

"AAAAAAAAnd first place! Just as—"

Moss not too long has landed next to them.

"—usual. Huh."

"Nice, Moss." Y/N smiled.

"I gotta admit, that was closer than we would've thought, old man."

"Thank you. You two ran and skate an excellent race. My speed came from knowing this land intimately. I let it help me move forward, rather than try to overpower it."

"Dude, me and sis raced through more zones, battleships and death traps. Than you can imagine. 'Go fast' is my answer to everything!"

"Ah! You have already found the answer to all your problems? Then I have nothing to teach you?" Moss chuckled, patting Ray's head.

This made Y/N snicker.

"Does he turn everything you say around on you?" Sonic grumbled, crossing his arms.

Mighty patted Sonic's shoulder.

"He did—until I finally started listening."

"What about you, dear? Have you learn something to your problem?"

"I'm... starting to understand it while thinking long and hard about my... form. Then, I learned that if I'm going to help everyone and save the world, I'm going to try to get use to it and accept myself. Even if it's... scary."

Moss smiled and patted her shoulder.

"That's what I like to hear. Looks like you've already know the answer."

"Thanks, Moss."

"Great... Now she's his favorite?" Sonic muttered, which Y/N heard that and elbowed him in the stomach.

"Master Moss is really smart, Sonic! He taught Mighty control, and me to be, well..."

"More proactive." Moss said.

"Haha... I'm working on it."

"I know I need help handling this... transformation thing. I don't want to risk losing control again and hurting my friends. But I know how I deal with stuff, and no amount of zen-talk is going to help me!"

Moss pointed at Sonic's chest sternly.

"You are a free spirit, child. Free as the wing. You resist 'control' to your very core. Like your sister said earlier, what you must learn is acceptance."

"Besides all this talk about 'controlling' you? You know who would say that?" Mighty smirked.

"Don't you even go there, dude."

"I got it! Dr. Eggman!" Y/N said, giggling.

"That's right, Y/N." Mighty said, smiling at her.

The next thing they did as surfing down the giant waterfall using their wooden board as they landed on the rocky porch and slide through it up high before jumping out of their board and landed on the palm tree branch and catapulted themselves over the waterfall to the top and landed gracefully right in front of Mighty, Moss, and Ray who're impressed.

"How was that?" Sonic asked.

"Most impressive. You two have already adapted well to the philosophy of 'passive progression.'"

"Wow! Sonic and Y/N's fast at everything, huh?" Ray smiled.

"Uh-huh. And he's so modest about it." Mighty smirked.

Sonic zoomed in front of Mighty and teasingly leaned his ear out.

"Sorry? What was that? 'I'm the best at everything ever'?"

"SAY AGAIN? I COULDN'T HEAR YOU OVER YOUR EGO!"

"You got that right." Y/N giggled.

Mighty then fist bumped Sonic and Y/N.

"Seriously, tho', I'm proud of you two. And humbled. You guys inspired me to get my act together back in the day, and you've shown me I've got a long way to go now."

"Mighty..."

"Whaaaaat? You had our back the other night, remember? Dude, you could totally handle your own Freedom Fighter Team."

"That doesn't sound so bad. It would be good for you." Y/N added.

"Ohhhh, no. Nuh-uh. I'm not leadership material." Mighty declined.

"You so are! You're kind, and smart, and strong, and—ooh! I'd be the first to join! And Master Moss could be our wise advisor!" Ray exclaimed.

"Uh... maybe dial back the optimism for once, lil'l buddy."

"We do not grow stronger by only facing the challenges we are the comfortable with. Shepherding some of my other students could do you some good." Moss said.

"You can't seriously—!"

Sonic and Y/N then noticed the sunset and went silent.

"Do you see what you've started?! Take it back before..."

Mighty stopped to see them standing there.

"...Sonic? Y/N?"

"Yeah, sorry. It's just..."

Sonic and Y/N glanced at him.

"...The sun's about to set."

"Breathe. This is what you have been training towards. Face it with the same confidence as you did the jungle and the waterfall." Moss said.

"Those didn't have claws and teeth, and they weren't coming out of us."

"We can do this, bro. Just remember our training."

"She's right! You can do this, Sonic, Y/N! We know you can!" Ray said.

"And if you guys slip, I've got your back." Mighty said, placing a hand on Y/N's shoulder.

"...Right. Thanks, guys."

Sonic and Y/N raised their hand out as they took a deep breath.

"Do not fight it—for you cannot fight yourselves. It is not a beast, for it is you. If you are a hero, then it will be a hero as well."

Once the sun is fully down, their body began to smoke purple with a bright light coming from their hand and then they turn into the werehog once again.

"How you two feelin'?" Mighty nervously asked.

Sonic and Y/N glare at Mighty with a snarl before they began to smile.

"WE FEEL... GOOD. YOU CAN RELAX—ME AND SIS GOT THIS."

"So... what's it like?" Ray asked.

"WEIRD! FANGS AND CLAWS ASIDE—IT'S LIKE ALL OUR SPEED GOT TURNED INTO MUSCLE, AND... AND..."

"I FEEL TALLER... AND..."

Then, Sonic and Y/N punched their chest like a gorilla with a loud howl, scaring Ray.

"ARRROOOOOOO!"

Ray immediately ran over to Mighty for protection who smiled at him.

"HEY, OLD MAN! CARE FOR A REMATCH OF THAT RACE?" Sonic asked.

"That sounds delightful." Moss said.

"SIS! YOU IN?"

"NAH. I'LL STAY HERE FOR A BIT."

"ALRIGHT."

Sonic and Moss then jumped off the cliff and began to move around very fast. Mighty looked at Y/N who smiled to where they're gone.

"Hey, Y/N. You look very nice."

Y/N turned to Mighty in surprise.

"REALLY?"

Mighty looked away, blushing shyly.

"Well, yeah. Your form and your clothes are not bad at all. And your eyes... I know you're still the same Y/N I know."

This made Y/N look away, blushing a little.

"THANKS, MIGHTY..."

Ray looked at Mighty with a smirk and did a small kissy noises without letting Y/N hear it, making him feel more embarrassed and cleared his throat.

"Shall we go and meet Sonic and Master Moss?"

"Sure!"

"YES, WE SHALL."

Once they got down from the waterfall, they could see Sonic and Moss heading their way as Sonic outstretched his arm and placed his claw finger on the finish line before Moss.

"HAHA—FIRST PLACE AGAIN, GRAMPS!"

"Hey! That's cheating! ...Is that cheating?" Ray exclaimed.

Sonic and Moss placed their hands together and bowed to each other.

"A race well run, my friend."

"YOU TOO, SHAGGY!"

"I can see you have already taken my teaching to heart."

Sonic flexed his muscle, making Y/N rolled her eyes before looking at her hand and smirked.

"YEAH! I THINK I GET IT NOW! MY BODY'S CHANGED, BUT THAT DOESN'T CHANGE ME! ALL THE SPEED AND POWER'S THERE—I JUST GOTTA UNLEASH IT DIFFERENTLY! SAME SONIC—NEW FLOW TO MY MOJO!"

Y/N then punched him hard in the arm as hers is outstretched as well.

"OW! SIS! WHAT'S THAT FOR?!"

"FOR BEING SUCH AN EGO PERSON!"

"Yeah. The look's a bit much, though." Mighty smirked, pointing at Sonic and making Ray and Y/N snicker as Sonic checked his spiked shoe.

"MEH, SO I GOTTA USE EXTRA SHAMPOO NOW. Y'KNOW, I ALWAYS WONDERED IF ME AND SIS'D GET BETTER TRACTION IN CLEATS..."

"Your progress has been inspiring. While you and your sister could use more training, I know you are eager to return to your friends." Moss said.

"YOU GOT IT. THE WORLD STILL NEEDS SAVING, AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT STUNT EGGMAN'S GOING TO PULL NEXT—"

As if Sonic jinxed it again, a blast of electricity was heard and it came from the Flying Dynamo.

Everyone immediately got into their fighting stance.

"Where did that come from?!" Ray exclaimed.

"It's a Super-Badnik! Thunderbolt must have sent it!" Mighty said, putting up his fists.

Sonic grinned in excitement while Y/N growled.

"SWEET! ALL THAT RACE DID WAS MAKE ME HUNGRY FOR MORE COMPETITION!"

"LET'S DO IT TO IT!"

Suddenly, the Flying Dynamo fired electricity at them, which they quickly dodged that as the ground exploded.

"Well, then—bon appetit." Mighty said.

"HAHA! NOW YOU'RE STARTING TO SOUND LIKE 'TWAN!"

Sonic, Y/N, Mighty, and Ray jumped up to the robot ready to strike it down as the hedgehog siblings let out a howl.

"ARRROOOOO!!!"

They tried to take it down, but it kept firing electricity at them as it hit Sonic and Y/N as they blocked it with their bare fists, baring in the pain. It then stopped as Sonic and Y/N are covered with smoke.

"Are you two alright?!" Ray asked in concern.

"WE'RE GONNA SMELL LIKE BURNT FOR THE REST OF OUR LIFE..."

They quickly ducked from another shot of electricity.

"If I could just get in close, this'd be over in a second, but it's not leaving us an opening!" Mighty exclaimed.

Y/N glanced at Moss who's hiding behind the palm tree.

"...THEN WE'LL MAKE AN OPENING!"

"YOU READ MY MIND, SIS! RAY! KEEPT IT DISTRACTED FOR A MINUTE! MIGHTY! FOLLOW US!"

Sonic and Y/N ran on four as Mighty quickly followed them.

"Woo! Sounds like they have a plan!" Ray cheered as he fly over to the robot.

"I hope it's better than one liner."

Sonic had Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck as he outstretched his arms and pulled the palm tree down forward as Mighty held onto his feet as hard as he can.

"Are you sure this is wise?" Moss questioned.

"YOU'RE THE GURU—YOU TELL US!"

"ANNNND—NOW!"

Mighty then let go of Sonic as Sonic and Y/N catapulted towards the Flying Dynamo and tackled it to the ground. Sonic tore apart the one kept blasting electricity while Y/N tore down a few more pieces of the robot with her sharp teeth before Sonic tossed it towards Mighty who gave it a final blow with one big punch, exploding it. The Flying Dynamo is now offline as it crashed to the ground. Sonic and Mighty gave each other a were-bro-fist while Y/N had her arms crossed with Ray cheering.

"Hahaha—WOW! I wonder what Thunderbolt will think of that!"

"POSSIBLY VERY PISSED ABOUT IT." Y/N said with a smirk.

The next morning, the Tornado came down to pick up Sonic and Y/N with the Sky Patrol in the air, waiting for them. Sonic and Y/N are back to their normal form.

"Quite the impressive aircraft." Moss said.

"Thanks, Master Moss. It was all on Rotor and Tails you should give credit on." Y/N smiled.

"That's nothin'. There's an entire corner of the kitchen devoted to chili dogs. And you'd dig the zen garden. Come up some time and we'll find you a corner to call your 'ohm.'"

Sonic and Mighty shook hands while Ray hugged Y/N rather cutely as she hugged him back.

"Well, our ride's here. If you feel like kicking butt together, give us a call." Sonic said.

"Oh, we will."

Mighty and Y/N then hugged each other.

"See you later, Mighty."

"Be safe."

"I will."

With that, Sonic and Y/N hopped onto the wings of the Tornado where Tails is piloting as they wave them goodbye.

"Later, guys! Yo, Tails! How'd the mission—"

They froze to see Tails fur messy and looking hurt badly.

"—Ah. That great, huh?"

"Two words: "Total Failure.'"

"Oh, Tails..." Y/N frowned. "Is everyone okay?"

"Everyone's intact—but super bummed."

"Oh, no..."

Soon, in the infirmary as Sonic and Y/N walked in as they looked even more worried with Tails heading in first. They could see everyone hurt as Rotor came in with first aid kit.

"Sheesh... Tails said you guys were intact, but how much glue did it take?"

"What happened??" Y/N asked.

Sally got off of the infirmary bed and winced slightly as Sonic came over to her aid, wrapping his arm around her.

"Eggman—Ow! The emerald was bait. Eggman ambushed us with three E-100 Units."

"Three of them?!" Sonic and Y/N exclaimed in shock.

"We should've been there."

"You two are ill, mon ami. You needed help." Antoine assured.

"No, Antoine. We knew we were sick for a while. If we'd taken care of things earlier—" Y/N said, but Sally finished it for her as she lean against Sonic.

"You'd have run the risk of dying, same as the rest of us. Our insight into Eggman's database is worthless now. We've lost our edge."

"Nooo—We're your edge. And we're back. Have we ever needed more than that in the past?" Sonic smiled, kissing her cheek.

"...No." Sally blushed.

"Eggman got a win today. So now the score's—what—one to a hundred?"

"Heh... You're keeping score?"

"We're a team, guys. The best team on this whole planet me and my bro would ever have! And together, we'll make sure Eggman won't hold onto the emerald for long!"

"Sis is right! So let's get back to saving the world! Nicole! You're brilliant and stuff. Any idea about another Chaos Emerald?"

Nicole's hologram popped out from the screen.

"Actually, I do have a lead on that."

She then brought out the hologram with the picture of the emerald, but with the words that shocked Sonic, Y/N, and Sally.

"She has an emerald?!"

"Not her again! I thought I'd never see her face again!"

"Oh, no..."

It was Breezie the Hedgehog who has the Chaos Emerald.
