The next morning, everyone is already awake as soon as Sonic and Y/N got back to camp.

"Morning, Rotor! Sleep well?" Sonic yawned.

"Couldn't sleep. So I set up the link to New Mobotropolis instead."

Sonic and Y/N looked confused.

"I think one of us needs more sleep, because that made no sense."

"We're setting up a live data stream back to our city." Sally explained.

"Oh. Cool! Why?" Y/N asked.

"To keep everyone back home informed. One way or the other, our fight with Dr. Robotnik ends today."

"We... the whole thing will be monitored? This isn't one of Hamlin's ideas, is it...?" Sonic asked.

"I proposed the notion. Our people have the right to know."

"The monitors are online here and I've just synced with Rotor. Can I get a level check please?" Nicole asked through the computer.

Sonic waved at the camera.

"Hi, mom!"

Y/N giggled behind him.

"Okay— Last check, Julie-Su?" Sally asked.

"I'm synced with Nicole and will be the contact for our team."

"The Chaotix are ready, Sally." Knuckles grinned.

(Start the music)

Y/N smirked in excitement and brought out her giant fist whip.

"Let's do it to it, Sal."

"I'll keep things under control here." Rotor said.

"Freedom Fighters! Chaotix! Let's take down the Eggman Empire!" Sally ordered.

Bunnie and Mighty began to punch the metal wall that's blocking the entrance as they managed to leave some dents.

"Almost through!"

"Just a couple of more hits!"

Sonic and Amy got into their position as Amy got her hammer up ready.

"Man-O-Man. I feel bad for anyone waiting for us on the other side."

"Ready for launch, Sonic?"

"One speedy-dash special on my mark...!"

Bunnie and Mighty soon tore open a hole in the wall.

"We're in!"

"Go, Sugah-Hog!"

Amy then slammed her hammer into Sonic as he did a spin dash and went flying into the hole as he landed on the wall. He looked around to find no one.

"Aw... I guess they're all lying in wait. Coast is clear, guys!"

The rest went inside.

"Freedom Fighters! Take the west hall! Sonic, you're on point!" Sally said.

"Sweet!"

Sonic, Y/N, Amy, and Tails went down the hallway and bumped into the Dark Legion. Sonic started hopping on their heads.

"I can't smash you guys like Badniks, but you're just as much fun to jump on!"

Amy hammered a few Dark Legion, knocking them away.

"This is so exciting! In the thick of the final battle with the love of my life! Weee!"

Y/N playfully rolled her eyes at that as she easily spins her giant fist whip and knocked a few Dark Legion away as she did her ballerina dance whilst jumping over their down bodies.

"This is too much fun to watch them suffer!"

Tails slapped one Dark Legion away with his twin tails.

"It's especially nice since we were all prisoners for most of the fight last time!"

"And I wouldn't have it any other way. Keep up the pace, guys!" Sonic smiled.

Not too far, Bunnie saved Antoine from sneak attack.

"Got yer back, Sugah-Twan!"

"Merci beaucoup mon amor. There iz one behind you."

Bunnie smacked her fist into the Dark Legion behind her back.

"Thanks, hon. Tails made a good point, y'know? Ah think this is the first time we're all together for this."

Antoine sliced off the Dark Legion's gun.

"Oui. We almost did not make it out of ze prison camp in Downunda."

"I've got you all beat. I was 'dead' during all that." Sally smiled.

Bunnie smacked her elbow with her hat.

"Oh, stop it! You're horrible!"

"Keep up the pressure, team! We don't want to keep the Chaotix waiting!"

The Freedom Fighters ran down the hallway, but stopped to see incoming lasers being fired around the corner. Sonic leaned against the wall sitting down.

"Thorough bunch of cronies, aren't they?"

"Unfortunately. They've broken our momentum." Sally said.

They all huddled around except Sonic.

"Okay, I don't want to use our trump so soon, but I'll need a shield from Bunnie and Y/N. Sonic will go in low, Tails on high. Amy and Antoine will come in next and cover them, disarming where they can. Then Bunnie, Y/N, and I will..."

"Yo, Sal!" Sonic called.

"What, Sonic?"

"You can ditch the plan. The Legion just retreated."

They look through the hallway to find no lasers firing anymore nor the Dark Egg Legion.

"What?! They had us pinned!" Sally exclaimed in shock.

"That's... strange. And suspicious." Y/N raised her eyebrow.

They continued on running down the hallway until they found the Chaotix. They met them at a metal wall with a small hole that was made.

"Knuckles! I trust things went okay?" Sally asked.

"Fine." Knuckles replied.

"Too easy, to be honest." Julie-Su said.

"Ditto." Sonic agreed. "I know we've kicked their butts a lot recently, but it's like they're not even putting up a serious fight."

"Dun sound so disappointed. Ah think we're owed an easy win." Bunnie said.

"I don't know guys. Don't you think it's strange? I feel like they're up to something... Like they knew we're going to win." Y/N said.

"Maybe because they prepared for a siege?" Tails guessed. "This barricade may be made of junk, but it's solidly built."

Ray looked through the small hole.

"All except for this hole. I wonder what it's for?"

Suddenly, Espio came out of the hole, turning off his invisibility mode and scaring Ray.

"It's a bottleneck, and an invitation."

"EEP!"

"Sorry, Ray."

"Explain." Sally said.

"Most of us could squeeze through just as they did. But we would be easy to single out and divide, hence the bottleneck. Given the chatter I heard about Eggman, I also believe the hole was meant for Sonic and Y/N to spin dash through quickly and deliver them to the doctor. Hence the invitation."

"He sure knows how to make a guy feel welcome." Sonic grinned.

Y/N rolled her eyes as Sonic began to walk to the hole.

"Well, time to take care of business. Let's go, sis."

"On it."

Sally immediately went in front of the siblings.

"Sonic! Y/N! No! You two can't go in there alone!"

"Sorry, Sal. We have to if we're going to end this war. Plus, I'm getting tired of Eggman and his robot schemes." Y/N said.

"What my sis said. What do you want us to do? If we spend all our energy tearing the wall down, we'll have to fall back. And then what? Wait for their counter-attack? Let Eggman run for it?" Sonic said.

"Yes, but—!"

"Or— We go in, start the show, and you guys come back us up. That's worked for pretty much the whole war."

Sally was silent as she couldn't utter another word. Then, she just hugged Sonic and kissed him on the lips.

"You be careful in there!"

Sonic kissed her back.

"Of course I will, Sal."

Sally let go of Y/N and hugged her tightly.

"You better be careful too! Make sure Sonic doesn't do anything reckless."

Y/N smiled and hugged her back.

"I will, Sally. I will."

Sonic and Knuckles fist bumped each other.

"Save some fun for us, True Blue."

"Then don't take too long, Rad Red."

Knuckles hugged Y/N.

"Make sure he keeps his word, Y/N."

Y/N chuckled and hugged him back.

"I'll try."

"You'll be careful. Don't want to lose you again."

"Don't worry. I'm very well aware."

Sonic comes up to Tails and gave him a ruffle to his hair.

"Find the breaking point for the wall for these guys, alright?"

Tails wiped away his tear.

"S-Sure thing. Be careful in there."

Y/N pats Tails' head.

"Make sure to stay safe, Tails."

Tails blushed and managed to man up and gave her a kiss on the cheek, surprising her.

"Y-You gotta be careful too! O-Or else I-I'll never forgive you!"

Y/N giggled, touching her cheek.

"I'll do my best."

Amy jumped onto Sonic and kissed him on the cheek.

"Oh, my brave Sonic! Good luck! I love you!"

"Amy!... Thanks!"

Amy hugged Y/N.

"Good luck to you as well, sister!"

"As to you too."

Sonic and Y/N get into their position ready for the spin dash.

"See you on the flip side, guys."

With that, they spin dashed into the hole and zoomed off to see the Dark Egg Legions on each side of them with the red carpet underneath them.

"Salutes? A minute ago it was lasers, and now it's the red carpet?"

"That's really suspicious." Y/N said.

"I can see the doc wanting a show-down, but this feels off. Something's up."

"That's what I've been trying to tell you, you idiot."

"S-Sorry. No worries. We'll just have to ask him once we're done overthrowing his global empire."

"Sure thing."

They zoomed off through the hallway to the end where they can see the two giant doors opened for them.

"Massive armored doors. Little, enclosed space. Nowhere to go but 'in', and nowhere to go but 'back'."

They started to walk in.

"Why didn't we just put a big, lit sign saying: 'This way to the trap'! So much for presentation. Ready for the party, Eggman?"

"Let's not get all jokey. Be serious."

Just then, the doors closed behind them as soon as they went inside.

"Aw! No repeat of your armor from last time?" Sonic grinned.

They looked up from the railing to see a giant red robot spider with Eggman inside controlling it.

"This is the end of it, rodents! You won't leave this room alive!"

"Big words, big man! Let's go!"

Sonic and Y/N got into their fighting position, ready for action.

"Fifteen years, Sonic and Y/N! Fifteen and more! You've spent your lifetime as a thorn in my side! No more!"

Y/N had never seen Eggman acting like this and is a little concerned with his mentality. Though, Sonic didn't noticed it as he continued to tease him.

"Uh-huh...!"

"Don't sass me, you miserable brat! I am Dr. Ivo Robotnik! The most brilliant mind in the history of the world!"

"If you say so."

"I do! And what I say is law! You know why? BECAUSE I CONQUERED THE WHOLE BLASTED PLANET, THAT'S WHY!!!"

"I think he's losing it..." Y/N said, feeling more concerned.

But Sonic ignored her.

"Do you remember Old Mobotropolis? Veritable capital of the world? It fell to me in a matter of minutes!"

"'The coup.' I remember. I was, like, five." Sonic said.

"And I was born right after that." Y/N added.

"And do you remember my ultimate victory? When I ground you into the ashes of Knothole! I'VE BEATEN YOU BEFORE, RODENT! I CAN DO IT AGAIN!!! ALONG WITH YOUR SISTER!"

Eggman tried to aim a leg at the hedgehog siblings, but they dodged that.

"Impressive resume, Doc. You missed a couple of key points, though."

Eggman aimed another leg at them, but they dodged it again by jumping over.

"Like how a group of kids with no real training took back that city. And you croaked, more or less."

"Sonic? I think you need to stop."

Eggman tried again and again, but they dodged every move.

"I cam back! I took the city back!"

"Yeah, what... for a month? Tops? And then you goofed and let the whole thing get nuked by missiles!"

Sonic and Y/N spin dashed through the platform, dodging more legs.

"And now the slag powers New Mobotropolis, so thanks for that!"

"SHUT UP!"

Sonic and Y/N ran and skated along the platform, dodging the legs and lasers.

"And about that empire of yours... you know about all the places you don't control, right?"

"Trifles! Specks on the wind-shield!"

"Hahaha! In denial, Doc?" Sonic laughed, while Y/N was silent the whole time. "The United Federation has at least a half-dozen city-states in it! And then there's all the Freedom Fighter groups fighting you all over the world every day. And you aren't too popular in the regions you do out-right control. You can't really claim to 'control' the planet when you're fighting for it your every waking hour!"

Sonic and Y/N ran and skated up the wall and dodged another leg.

"Sure, you beat me fair and square not long ago. I'll give you props for that."

Sonic and Y/N started bouncing off the Spider Robot.

"But how many Badniks have me and sis stomped?"

"ARGH!"

"How many times have we sent you packing?"

"STOP IT!"

Sonic and Y/N stood on the windshield.

"We've beaten you before, Eggman. A lot. And we'll do it again."

"Sonic! I think that's enough already! Look at him!" Y/N exclaimed.

"RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! FSSSSSSST! Y-Y-YOU...!"

Eggman shot out a grappling hook and was being lifted in the air.

"CH-JUST A BOT! STUPID RODENT!"

Sonic and Y/N jumped off the robot.

"Whoa!"

"MMM-HMM-HMM-HMM! NO MORE GAMES! GAME OVER! END IT ALL! END HIM! END HER!!"

The Spider Robot began spinning in the air with the legs.

"YOU CAN ONLY BEAT THE AVERAGES SO LONG BEFORE THEY BEAT YOU!"

"Whoa—!"

Sonic and Y/N leaped in the air as Sonic dodged the legs that are spinning and pushed Y/N up as high as he can as Y/N cut the rope that's hanging the Spider Robot with her spin dash.

"NO!!!"

The Spider Robot fell on its back.

"Why, look! The crucial joint to this thing! Don't mind if we do!"

"No, you don't! I won't let you!"

Eggman quickly turned the Spider Robot back right up as Sonic and Y/N spin dashed the robot and landed on the platform.

"Fine, fine. You want to do it the hard way?"

Sonic and Y/N ran and skated up the wall again.

"You'll have to catch us first!"

"Blasted manic perpetually moving animals."

Eggman climbed up after him with his Spider Robot.

"Hahaha! That's it, Eggy! Right this way!" Sonic laughed.

Sonic and Y/N then jumped down, shocking Eggman.

"Whoops! Gotcha!"

"What—?!"

Sonic and Y/N started bouncing off the Spider Robot with the help of Y/N's ruby to do more damage.

"AUGH!"

They then destroyed the legs with their spin dash.

"NO NO NO!!! STOP IT!!! STOP IT!!! I FORBID YOU! I COMMAND YOU TO STOP! I— AUGH!!!"

"Whew! Ready to surrender?" Sonic asked, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

"Yeah, like right now while you still can? I think you need to calm down." Y/N asked.

"Can't... Won't... Let... Not this time...!"

Eggman started firing lasers at them, causing them to get away from it.

"Should've known better."

"I tried to warn him."

"N-N-NO! STAY BACK! LOSE... DIE!!!"

Sonic and Y/N bounced off the walls in their spin dash, destroying the robot limb from limb.

"NYAAAAAGH! I—HATE—THOSE—HEDGEHOGS!!!"

With one last spin, the robot fell apart, causing Eggman to go flying and fell to the ground. All that's left is nothing but scraps of the broken Spider Robot. Sonic picked up Eggman's glasses while Y/N check on Eggman to see if he's okay and stable as he's twitching.

"Wow! That was cathartic!"

Sonic turned to Eggman and walked over to him.

"But ending a lifelong duel would do that, wouldn't it? You hear me, Eggman? You're done. I'll leave the speeches about 'winning the way' and 'conquering evil' to Sally. I'll be content with 'nyah nyah' and 'me and sis win.' Sis can do all the talking and good speech as always.

"Um... Sonic?" Y/N asked, looking at Eggman worriedly.

"F-F-F NNNGHHHH..."

Eggman stood up and screamed rather loudly and uncontrollably.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"

Sonic and Y/N backed away in shock as Eggman fell to the floor and started pulling onto his mustache.

"NNNNGH-NNNNGH-NNNNGH..."

"Um... Eggman?" Sonic called.

Eggman then ripped out of his mustache and screamed again.

"NNNNNYAAAAAGH!!!"

"I think he completely lost his mind..." Y/N muttered.

"HEDGE! GNYAH! HOGS! HATE! NO!"

"H-Hey, Doc? Doc Robotnik!... Yo! Ivo!"

Eggman turned and tried to punch Sonic, but he ducked from it.

"GRRRRRRRRAAAHHH!!!"

"I told you to stop, but you never listen, huh?" Y/N shook her head in disappointment.

"What did I do, sis?!"

"You kept teasing him and bullying him, which made him more mad. Plus, he look like he lost his mentality."

Eggman started thrashing around and fell to the ground, clutching onto his head.

"Sonic! Y/N!"

Sonic and Y/N turned.

"Sally?"

"MINE! NO! CAN'T! NRAGH! MMPLLT!"

Sally walked in.

"We got here as fast as we could! Bunnie and Mighty just— Robotnik?"

"Yeah. Bunnie and Mighty just what?" Sonic asked.

"Right! They just now pulled the doors apart."

"And the Dark Egg Legion?" Y/N asked.

"Fell back a few minutes after you two ran ahead."

"RRAUGH!" Eggman screamed.

"Sonic... Y/N... What did you do to him?"

"It's not me, Sally. It was all Sonic's. He was the one that kept boasting him." Y/N protested.

"I-I mean... I was... We just beat him like always..." Sonic started.

"More than that."

They turned to see Snively.

"You didn't just beat him this time, Sonic and Y/N. You broke him. Mostly you, Sonic."

Snively lean down to Eggman and pat his back.

"Eccentrics aside, he really is a genius. He can build the most amazing things and plot a hundred steps ahead. The world fell to his brilliance in a few short years. And then there's you and later your sister. All the building, calculating, and planning in the world couldn't beat you two. It's been gnawing at his mind for over a decade now. His defeat at New Mobotropolis shook him the hardest. He's been losing his grip for days now. He simply could not take one more defeat at your hands."

"So... what now?" Sally asked.

"Now? Now you leave me to take care of my poor uncle. Now you go home and celebrate. You've won."

Y/N was confused that he's letting them go just like that? She doesn't like it one bit. The rest of the Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix came into the room.

"Did I hear right? Is it over?" Mighty asked.

"Y-Yeah. It's done. We won." Sonic said.

Knuckles, Amy, and Vector went up to Sonic and Y/N.

"You jerk! I told you to save some action for us! Haha! Y/N! You could've at least tell him to take it easy!" Knuckles laughed.

"Party on! It's over!" Vector cheered.

"Hooray, Sonic and Y/N! We knew you two could do it!" Amy cheered.

"Did—Did you get all that, Nicole?" Sally asked, happily tearing up.

"Yes, Sally. As did everyone back home. They're dancing in the streets!"

Y/N smiled, feeling happy that everything it's over. But she still had a feeling that it's not over just yet. She walk down the hallway with Sonic, Tails, and Amy as they head for the exit.

"After you guys went through the barricade, you got to that room, right?" Tails asked.

"Yeah. Obvious trap, but whatever, right?" Sonic said.

"Then what?!" Amy asked in excitement.

"He came down his robot, um, spider. And we trashed it." Y/N said.

"Oooh, I can just imagine! So dashing! So daring!" Amy cooed.

"Nothing can stop that Sonic and Y/N spin!" Tails cheered, fist pumping in the air.

Amy noticed Sonic and Y/N look a little uneasy.

"Hey, Sonic, Y/N, are you two okay?"

Sonic and Y/N looked back.

"Just tired from kicking some Robuttnik, I guess."

"Same for me."

"That's more like it!" Tails smiled.

They made it outside.

"Okay, guys, let's help Rotor pack up and head for home." Sally said to Tails and Amy.

"Yes, ma'am!"

"Right!"

Sally turned to Sonic and Y/N.

"Hey, you."

"Hey."

"Sup."

"Are you two going to be okay?"

"...I guess." Sonic said.

"I'm happy and all, but still a little guilty." Y/N said.

"I... didn't think it'd end like this. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this... I mean... Now what do I do?"

Sally took his hands.

"That's an adventure in itself, isn't it? Trust me, fulfilling your 'duty' and moving on and be a good thing."

"She's right. I'm actually happy to get a break from Eggman's schemes." Y/N added with a smile.

Sonic smiled and picked up Sally in bridal style and they kissed. Y/N rolled her eyes, expecting that will happen.

"You two are so cute."

Y/N hopped onto the car right next to Knuckles and Mighty who smiled at her as they all head back home to New Mobotropolis to celebrate their victory.
