I'm sure at some point, you might have heard the names Dale Earnhardt or Richard Petty come up in a conversation, or on TV. However, do you know who they are?

Answer: two of the best NASCAR drivers to get behind the wheel.

Founded in 1948, NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) is one of the most popular racing circuits out there, along with Formula 1.

The NASCAR season runs from February to November, with the playoffs starting in September. Now, the playoff format is different from others. NASCAR does their playoffs in rounds. Throughout the season, drivers earn points to qualify for the playoffs, or they can win races to secure a spot. Once the playoffs start, there are a few rounds: the Round of 16, Round of 12, Round of 8, and the Round of 4, which is the championship race. Only one of those four drivers will walk away with the championship title.

Within NASCAR, there are a few different series. However, the most popular series are the Craftsman Trucks, Xfinity, and the Cup series, with the latter being the highest level of competition.

A lot of drivers start young, racing go karts as kids. From there, they typically move on to late model racing, or other car racing series. Racing is a lifelong commitment for most of these drivers, but each of them shows up on Sundays with a smile on their face ready to live their dreams.

Being a fan of this sport is a rollercoaster of emotions. You could be happy that your driver avoided a wreck, excited that they won a race or upset that they missed the playoffs. Regardless of the situation, this sport is sure to have your blood pumping throughout the season.

The fans in this sport are beyond invested, including myself. I've been a fan of the sport since I was a kid. Growing up in my family, everyone had their favorite driver, and we made sure to be home on Sundays by the time the green flag dropped. Even today, I still make sure to be at home every race day so that I don't miss a moment.
