Chapter Two
Everyone turned to face Peter as he walked in. "Heyyy," Peter said slowly. A red-headed blur started running at him.
"Peter!" The blur squealed. That blur was Sasha. Sasha Banner-Romanoff. Bruce and Natasha's child.
She was four years old, having been adopted at the age of two. She did look like she could be Bruce and Natasha's child, with her red hair and brown eyes.
She had become an orphan when her parents had gone to Sokovia and hadn't come back. Bruce and Natasha had adopted her about five months after Sokovia.
"Hey Sash!" Peter said with a grin. "You missed me?" He picked her up for a hug and did his best to ignore the small pain that came with it.
Sasha nodded. "Now we can watch Finding Nemo!" She jumped out of his arms and grabbed his hand, dragging him to the Tv room.
"Hey, easy," Peter said with a laugh. "I need to change first. I don't want to watch Finding Nemo in my suit!" He separated himself from Sasha and headed into his room.
He closed the door and pulled off his suit. He went to closet and pulled out a Midtown Tech sweatshirt. He looked down at his scarred body.
Faint scars from being shot, stabbed, burned - he hated having his shirt off in front of people. Once in PE, he had to change into his PE clothes in a locker room full of other students. Everyone had started asking him about the scars and whispering about it. He had immediately asked the teacher to let him change somewhere else. Somewhere more private.
He shook his head and threw the sweatshirt on. He pulled on some jeans and hurried back out to the Tv room.
Tony and Steve were sat on one couch, smiling over at Peter. Bruce, Natasha and Sasha were sat together on another, Sasha practically jumping from excitement for Finding Nemo.
Clint was sat on the floor in front of the Banner-Romanoffs, remote in hand. Thor was not there. Hadn't been for two years. Peter still had absolutely no clue where he was.
As for Vision and Wanda? They were off somewhere, probably making goo goo eyes at each other. Ew.
Peter went over to his dads, sitting between them.
"Hey Pete," Tony said, hugging Peter gently. He saw Peter's bandaged hand and looked at him quizzically. "Woah, what happened?"
Peter quickly tried to hide his hand. "Uh, nothing."
"Barton." Tony turned to Clint.
"I'm on it," Clint said, turning on the news, causing Sasha to whine about watching Finding Nemo. On the news, there was a picture of - surprise surprise - Spider-Man.
"Our friendly Avenger Spider-Man has helped the police to apprehend a criminal who is known to be a threat," The newscaster stated. Tony looked at Peter, causing Peter to look down and sigh.
"Spider-Man has told us that he was held captive by this man," She continued as a picture of the man came on screen. "He has recently been identified as-"
"Let's just start the movie, yeah?" Peter quickly said, looking at Clint. "Please?"
Clint changed it back to Nemo. "Fine, jeez," he said, starting the movie.
Peter let out a small sigh and relaxed a little. He tried to focus on the movie, which is hard when your dads won't take their eyes off of you. He didn't have to worry about it for too long though, because Sasha started scolding them about not paying attention.
Man, right from the beginning, that movie is a tearfest.
Peter stood up a while into the movie, Sasha, Clint and Tony already tearing up.
"I'll go get more popcorn," he said, grabbing the empty popcorn bowl. He looked around at the sniffling bunch. "And probably some tissues."
"Quickly!" Sasha said with a sniffle.
Peter laughed shortly before going into the kitchen, empty popcorn bowl in hand. He grabbed a bag and into the microwave it went. He leaned against the counter and listened to the popping, getting lost in his thoughts.
Why'd they have to ask? Peter could have cleared his mind of the whole issue - if only just for a while - it the hadn't asked or turned on the news. Now? It was going to be stuck in his mind for a good amount of time.
If someone says nothing, Peter thought passive aggressively. Maybe you shouldn't go into it.
Oh, how he just wanted to disappear from existence.
He was interrupted by the microwave beeping, signaling that the popcorn was done. He sighed and opened the microwave, grabbing the popcorn. He could hear Clint yelling at him to hurry up with the tissues.
Peter did his best to snap out of it and dumped the bag into the bowl. He grabbed some tissues as he walked back to the Tv room.
It was chaos in there.
Steve was holding a sniffling Tony, obviously trying very hard not to laugh. Nat and Bruce were comforting a sobbing Sasha. Clint definitely wasn't wiping hastily at his eyes. He also definitely didn't snatch the tissues as soon as Peter brought them out.
Peter laughed and sat down on the floor in front of his dads, passing the popcorn to his Pops. He watched as Marlin and Dory were blown out of the water, reaching their destination.
"Man, remind me to never watch a children's movie with you guys ever again," Peter said with a laugh, rolling his eyes. "Can't get through one movie, I'm telling ya."
"Hey!" Tony sniffled. "It's a very emotional movie!"
"Ha, who's crying because of a children's movie now?" Steve teased.
"Oh shut up," Tony said, blushing and looking back at the screen, causing Steve to snicker.
The movie came to an end, the tissues and popcorn gone with it. Sasha was sleeping on her moms lap. Surprisingly, no one else was asleep this time. Bruce stood up and picked up Sasha, her head laying down on his shoulder.
"Thanks for making us cry," Clint said as him and the others were leaving. "Next time, I choose the movie."
Soon, it was just Steve, Tony and Peter left. Steve was cleaning up the Tv room, while Tony and Peter started to wash dishes. It was quiet for the most part, the only sound being the sound of the running water.
Eventually, Tony spoke up. "Pete, about what happened earlier today, and with that man..."
Peter sighed. He really didn't want to talk about it, but it seemed as if he had no choice at the moment. "Yeah?" He asked, looking down.
"How did this happen?" Tony asked, drying his hands and moving to the couch, Peter following slowly but surely after him.
"When I was doing my rounds," Peter said quietly as he sat down across from his dads. He ran his hands up and down his legs, eyes down. Why was this worrying him so much? They weren't going to kill him or get all that mad at him, right? He tried to relax a bit.
"I saw him walk into an abandoned building," Peter continued, "and he looked suspicious, so I followed him. When I walked in, I was immediately knocked out. I woke up and I... I was tied up and hanging over a pool of sharks."
Steve and Tony looked shocked. "Sharks?" Steve clarified.
"Well turns out they were holograms, but yeah, sharks." Peter laughed a little, looking up.
"Why on earth did he take you?" Tony asked slowly. "Have you fought him before?"
Peter was about to speak, when he realized it would not be a good idea. If his dads found out that some man who had hovered him over a pool of 'sharks' found out that he was Spider-Man, they would flip out. That would definitely not end well. He didn't really want to risk it.
"He didn't say," Peter lied. "I think he just heard how awesome Spider-Man was and decided he wanted a challenge."
Tony and Steve laughed, not necessarily helping Peter's self-esteem.
"Alright, Amazing Spider-Man. Why don't you go to bed?" Steve said.
Peter gave him a look. "Pops, I'm sixteen, not six."
"You won't be sixteen too much longer. You're birthday is in a month," Tony reminded him.
"You've got to wake up early tomorrow," Steve said slowly. "Remember? You and MJ were meeting up, right? Going to the mall and a movie?"
"Well, yes, but I'm not leaving until eleven?"
Tony rested a hand on his shoulder. "Oh, Peter. Sweet, naive Peter."
"With the time it takes to get ready, and the time to get her flowers or something..."
"Wait, what?" Peter stood up. "It's not a date! We're just hanging out!"
Steve and Tony shared a look. "Uh huh," Steve said with a laugh. "Still, should get up early."
"Fine," Peter said, rolling his eyes a bit and smiling. He hugged his dads goodnight and went to his room.
When he got inside, he closed the door and leaned against it with a sigh. He slid down until he was sitting on the floor. He ran a hand through his hair and closed his eyes.
How was he going to keep this from his dads? They were Captain America and Ironman for heavens sake! Surely they'd figure out sometime, somehow.
Man, this was really exhausting. Most teenagers didn't have to worry about this. They just had to worry about homework and asking out the person they liked. Peter, on the other hand, had to worry about those, and being a superhero. And making sure no one knows he is a superhero. Oh, and don't forget making sure that his family didn't find out that someone had found out he was one.
No pressure, right?
He made a plan for the next day. Now that his dads had brought up Peter's experience - twice, he had started thinking more about it. He needed to find them. He needed to know how they had found out who he really was.
He'd find these men.
He'd find out how they knew who he was and what else they knew.
He would stop them from doing whatever they were planning on doing.
And he would get this all done in time to meet up with MJ.
He had to do this. And no one was going to stop him.
How can they when you keep it all bottled up inside?
