Chapter 6

Maddie stormed into the kitchen looking murderous. Wes stopped eating to stare, which he would have done even if her hair wasn't violently blue, and her face wasn't red from anger, it was a nice color contrast. She was so cute when she was angry. He couldn't help but goad her further.

"Aww, why so blue Maddie?"

"Why so blue? Just wait, when I get you back for this you'll be bluer than Jake Sully in Avatar."

"Oh, now you wouldn't do that," Wes said, but the certainty of the statement was called into question when his pitch involuntarily wavered.

"Wouldn't I?"

Wes tried to make a break for the door, but Maddie was already on the other side of the table, blocking his way to the back door and effectively trapping him in the kitchen.

"OOOh wow! Look over there!!" Wes said dramatically, waving his hand for emphasis.

Perhaps he was a bit too dramatic because Maddie wasn't buying it. Or maybe she just wasn't as painfully gullible as he had been last night. For whatever reason she was still glaring unblinkingly at him from across the table.

"Humm, must have been a bird," Wes nonchalantly continued, "perhaps I can get you a drink while we...stand around the table? Brandy? Scotch? Something I like to call Wes' Surprise? Kind of already had some of that this morning, now I think on it." All Wes could think to do was to keep talking. "I saw some tequila. Maybe you would like some of that instead? On the rocks maybe? I'm sure I could find some rocks outside."

Yeah, that's good. Wes thought. I can get her drunk before running like a... horse going downhill in roller-skates...which of course, wouldn't be running at all...more like rolling with a purpose. A definite purpose.

Wes was brought back to his reality when Maddie shifted closer preparing to pounce; which in any other circumstance he very much would have supported. If only her eyes didn't show her intent to drown him in blue food coloring and poke him with a stick (though not in that order, because if he was already dead from drowning then what's the point of poking him with a stick?). Woe to be me.

Yeah, getting off-topic again.

While staring down the she-wolf, Wes began inching toward the refrigerator hoping that he could find some sort of distraction.

"What are you doing?" Maddie asked suspiciously

"Oh, you know the usual...breathing, looking,...seeing..." Wes stalled as he frantically searched the fridge, for the second time this morning, looking for something he could use.

His eyes landed on a bag of powdered sugar. While it was not the most ideal food, he would have to settle. After all, he had already used up most of the good stuff for his concoction. So behind the protection of the refrigerator door, he slowly reached for the bag and took two large handfuls.
