The Junkyard Trap

Stayin' Alive - The Bee Gees

T H E  S P Y  P T . I I

I had arrived to the junkyard first, waiting for the boys to catch up. They finally caught up.

"Finally." I sighed, walking over to them.  Steve and Danny surveyed the yard. I cracked a smile when I saw the sunglasses on Steve. "Is that why you guys took so long?"

"No." Danny rolled his eyes. "Steve and I were giving Dustin tips."

"Dear God." I groaned. "Help my little brother out if he got tips of the two of you."

Danny smacked my arm. I chuckled, shoving him away. Dustin and Steve ignored us as they scooped out the junk yard. They were most likely formulating a plan on how to trap Dart.

"Oh yeah. Yeah, this will do." Steve nodded. He started to walk towards the clearing in the middle of the junk yard, taking off his sunglasses in the process. "This will do just fine. Good call, dude."

Dustin smiled at the praise from someone other than his family. I gave his shoulder a squeeze before tossing more meat around. The boys started to copy my motions, littering chunks of meat around the junk yard.

When we met up in the middle, we poured the rest of the meat to the ground in a pile.

"I said medium-well!" Lucas shouted. Looking up, I saw Lucas on his bike with Billy's sister, Max.

"Who's that?" Steve asked Dustin. Lucas and Max started to make their way towards us.

"Oh." I frowned. Steve furrowed his eyebrows before looking at Dustin's sad expression. "Why did he bring her here?"

"He can get in trouble." Danny wet his lips anxiously. "They can find out."

"I'm going to talk to Lucas." Dustin walked towards his friends before dragging him behind a car to talk privately.

"Steve and I will start prepping things." Danny patted my shoulder and walked off. Steve gave me a small smile before joining my brother.

"Hi, you must be Max." I greeted the younger girl with a smile. I gave her a wave. "I'm Dawn, Dustin's older sister."

"Oh, right, hi." Max held out her hand. Giving her I grin, I shook her hand. "You hang out with Billy, right?"

"Yeah, I'm a friend of his." I nodded. "So...you're here to help out or?"

"Um, I'm here to help." Max tucked a strand of her orange hair nervously. "And to see if this whole demon thing is true."

"He told you?" I blinked.

"Yeah." Max nodded. "But it's stupid and unbelievable. I thought I'd humor him and come help out with whatever you guys say you're trying to catch."

"Oh, um, then you can help us out then. Let's start getting the trap ready, okay?" I started to walk towards my twin and Steve. "And by the way it's a Demogorgon dog. Dart."

"Okay." Max followed me, stuffing her hands into her jean pockets. "Sure."

"What do you want us to do?" I asked Danny.

"Start looking for any scraps that could be used to trap and block Dart from escaping." Danny pointed a metal tray not too far from us. "Steve and I are picking up the heavier things."

"Got it. Let's go Max." I left the girl to pick up slabs of plastic and metal.

"Hey! Dickheads! How come the only ones helping me out are the twins and some random girl?" Steve asked the younger boys. I looked over to see them near a broken red car. "&We lose light in forty minutes. Let's go. Let's go I said!"

"All right, asshole! God!" Dustin stomped after Steve when he walked away with a foldable chair.

"Okay! Stupid!" Lucas insulted. He was right behind Dustin.

"Hey! I found some barrels. Come help me out." Danny waved and pointed to the barrels next to him. We all ended up rolling to barrels to the center of the junk yard. "Alright, Dawn help me set them up in a line."

"I'll start with gasoline and leave trails." Steve jogged away after setting his barrel up. "Kids! Start piling up the scraps!"

We got down to business. Steve made a trail of gasoline from the in front of the bus to the pile of meat. Max found a ladder and carried it inside the bus. She had it to where we could climb out of the bus on the ladder from the emergency window on the top of the bus. The younger boys started to place the wire and metal scraps on the bus, blocking the windows and other ways that Dart could enter. Danny and I were securing the area, making sure everything was in place.

Once we were done prepping the trap, we all got inside the bus. It was already dark out, making the inside of the bus almost pitch black. Lucas was on the ladder with his binoculars scouting for Dart. The rest of us were waiting for his cue.

I sat next to Steve, one of my knees propped up while the other was strewn out on the floor. My head was leaning on his shoulder, watching him playing with the lighter in his hand. Danny was sitting on a seat in front of us. Max was sitting a few seats behind us while Dustin stood next to Danny.

"Well you two look cozy." Danny smirked, swinging up his legs to rest across the aisle to the other seat that was vacant.

"Shut up." I hissed. My face started to heat up.

"You two official now? Is my work done?" Danny questioned.

"No." Steve rolled his eyes. "We're going to wait a bit. Let this whole break up thing with Nancy go away before we do."

"Just date. You two have liked each other for years but we're too stubborn and ignorant to realize it. No time to waste." Danny told us. Steve and I glanced at one another. Licking my lips, I reached for his hand and laced our fingers together. Steve gave me a smile. "And we're fighting another Demogorgon tonight. Be a power couple with dangerous weapons. Beat Johnathon and Nancy."

"So you three really fought one of these things before?" Max interrupted as she looked between us.

"Yup." Danny nodded, staring out the front window with the little view we had from it being boarded up.

"And you're, like, totally one hundred percent sure it wasn't a bear?" Max continued. I went to open my mouth and reply but Dustin beat me to it.

"Shit. Don't be an idiot. Okay? It wasn't a bear." Dustin looked at the girl.

"Dustin!" I scolded.

"Why are you even here if you don't believe us?" Dustin continued. "Just go home."

"Geesh. Someone's cranky. Past your bedtime?" Max countered, standing up. Dustin started to pace the aisle. She walked to the ladder and climbed it to join Lucas.

"That's good. Just show her you don't care." Steve told Dustin.

"I don't." Dustin muttered. Steve gave him a wink. "Why are you winking, Steve? Stop."

Steve innocently shrugged and went back to playing with his lighter. Dustin continued to pace, peering out the window every now and then.

"Do you really not like her?" Danny asked our little brother. "Or you don't understand your feelings yet?"

"I don't." Dustin replied, shaking his head. "It's obvious her and Lucas have a thing going on. Why dwell on something that doesn't like me back?"

"Then move on, little brother. There are more beautiful girls out there and one will like you just the way you are. Don't stress about it." I gave him a soft smile.

There was a loud growl coming from outside of the bus. Steve and Danny scrambled to the windows to check it out. I leaned over Steve's shoulder, placing my hand in his back to look outside. Steve momentarily glanced back at me before focusing on finding Dart.

"You see him?" Dustin questioned. He stood next to me, looking between Danny and Steve.

"No." Steve shook his head.

"Nada." Danny agreed. "Too much fog to see him."

"Dart would be able to blend right in. It's will cover him." I frowned.

"Lucas, what's going on?" Dustin yelled.

"Hold on!" Lucas replied back. There was another guttural growl. "I've got eyes! Ten o'clock! Ten o'clock!"

"Do you see him?" I mumbled to Steve, trying to spot Dart in the thick fog.

"There." Steve pointed towards one of the trucks that had a large sheet of metal laid against it.

"I see him." I nodded. Dart was barely visible in the fog. The only reason I saw him was because he moved. "He's near the bait."

"What's he doing?" Dustin inquired.

"I don't know." Steve replied honestly. Danny moved toward us. There was a chittering sound.

"Dart is near the bait, right?" Danny nervously glanced at Steve.

"He's not taking the bait." Steve noted. "Why is he not taking the bait?"

"Maybe he's not hungry." Dustin suggested.

"Maybe he's sick of cow." Steve moved away from the window.

"Or he can smell the gasoline?" I But my lip. Steve walked towards his backpack. "Steve?"

Catching his drift, Danny rushed towards his bag as well.

"Danny? What are you two doing?" Dustin worriedly questioned. "What are you doing?"

"Guys." I went towards Danny. "What the hell are you doing?"

Steve turned around and held up his lighter. He gave a looked to Danny before tossing the lighter to Dustin.

"Just get ready." Steve said. Dustin caught the lighter. Danny grabbed his pole with the knives and Steve got his bat.

"I'm coming with you." I unsheathed my machete.

"No. You stay here with the kids." Steve held out a hand towards me.

"If Dart manages to come here while we're out there, you can protect them." Danny agreed.

"But," the boys gave me stern looks. Sighing I caved in and nodded. "Okay. Just be careful."

"We will." Steve walked towards me. He pecked my cheek before exiting the bus with Danny. Dustin gave me a cheeky grin as he wiggles his eyebrows.

"Oh shut up." I playfully shoved him away. He let out a small laugh before going over to the window. "Keep watch through there. I'll be waiting at the door."

Dustin gave me a thumbs up as he continued to peer outside. Danny and Steve slowly made their way through the fog with their weapons in the ready. As they it closer to the center of the of the junk yard, Steve twirled his bat in anticipation. More chittering echoes through the night. A whistle pierced through the air.

"Come on, boy." Steve whistled again.

"Come here doggy, doggy, doggy." Danny scanned the area.

"What are they doing?" Max climbed down the ladder.

"Expanding the menu." Dustin smartly replied.

"Dustin." I sent him a warning glare.

"C'mon, boy." Danny spun around in a circle.

"Come on, buddy." Steve called out. Both Danny and him were standing next to the meat pile. "Come on. Dinner time. Human tastes better than cat, I promise."

"He's insane." Max stated. "They're both insane."

"They're awesome." Dustin corrected.

"Shut up and be quiet. We don't need to have Dart coming to us." I turned to look at the two and hissed at the them.

Turning my attention to the two teenagers baiting Dart, I saw a small dog figure making it's way toward them.  Danny and Steve readied their weapons. I eyed Dart as he grew nearer.

"Steve, Danny, watch out!" Lucas yelled.

"A little busy here!" Steve retorted, staring the monster down.

"Three o'clock! Three o'clock!" Lucas informed. I snapped my gaze to the right spotting another Demogorgon dog.

"What the hell?" I muttered to myself in disbelief. "There's two! Guys, there's two of them!"

Steve and Danny looked around the junk yard. More Demogorgon dogs started to appear. One of the dogs jumped on top of a car.

"Nope, I thinks there more than two, Dawny." Danny shot back.

"Danny! Steve! Abort! Abort!" Dustin rushed towards me.

Danny and Steve started to run in our direction. One of the Demogorgon dogs went for Steve's feet. He jumped over it as Danny stabbed his knife pole through it's head. The dog fell to the ground dead. Snarls and growls came from the dogs as they started to attack. Steve and Danny started swinging their weapons at the monsters.

"Steve! Danny! Run!" Lucas shouted.

"Hurry!" Max bellowed.

I looked at my machete and then at the monsters circling my twin and Steve. Stepping forward, Dustin grabbed a hold of my wrist.

"Don't even think about it, Dawn."

"They need help." I told my little brother.

"And you need to be here in case things backfire." Dustin told me. "If they need you, they will call for you."

"Dustin-"

"I'm serious, Dawn." Dustin looked up at me.

Steve and Danny rushed towards the doors. I pushed Dustin back further into the bus, me right behind him. Danny jumped in first, running into me. Steve got on, skidding the door shut. A dog crashed into the door.

Steve rushed over to us. Danny and I put the younger teens behind us. Snarls were escaping the monster that was trying to break into the bus through the door.

"Shit!" Dust cried, grasping my shoulder.

"Are they rabid or something?" Max asked. Steve grabbed one of the sheets of aluminum that was on the windshield and used it to block the door.

"They can't get in! They can't!" Lucas reassured the younger girl.

The Demogorgon dog rammed into the door. We all let out a scream. There was a crash and glass breaking, causing us to jump. The sheet of metal fell down, the dog butting it's head inside. Steve scrambled towards us as we let out another scream.

"Go to the back!" I started to push the younger teens to the back. Steve grabbed us bat and started to beat the monster up. Danny started to help Steve out by stabbing the dog.

"Shit!" Dustin cursed as he ran to his radio. He picked it up and started to speak into it. "Is anyone there? Mike? Will? God! Anyone?"

There was another loud bang next to Max. A demogorgon dog and crashed into the side of the bus, leaving an ident. Max jumped and moved next to Lucas.

"Shit!" Dustin yelled as Max screamed. "We're at the old junkyard, and we're going to die!"

There was another clang. Looking around, I tried to find the monster behind it. More clanging came, sounding from above. I looked up slowly. My gaze locked on the emergency exit on the roof of the bus.

A monstrous face loomed over as it gripped that highest bar on the ladder. It released a guttural growl. Max screamed, looking it in the eye. I raised my machete and glared at the monster. It growled again. I slashed the weapon at it's foot, cutting it off.

The monster let out a scream of anguish. It went to snap at me when a cry echoed from the forest. The dog froze and looked in the direction of the sound. Giving me one last growl, he left and jumped off the bus.

There was another distant cry. I blinked in confusion, turning to face everyone else. Lucas and Max were holding hands, shaking in fear. They quickly let go when they saw me eyeing them. Dustin stood next to Danny with Steve to his right.

It was quiet.

"Did they all go?" I asked, walking over to a window. Peering outside, all I saw was the fog.

"I'm going to check." Steve muttered. He went to the door and tried to open it. "Jeez."

Finally, the door swung open. Steve cautiously stepped out with his bat. Danny and I following behind him. A low growl came from deep in the fog.

"What happened?" Lucas climbed out after us.

"I don't know." Max answered, peering over him.

"Did you guys scare them off?" Dustin asked the older teens.

"No." Steve shook his head. He swung his bat over his shoulder, turning to face the kids. "No way. They're going somewhere."

"But the question is where?" Danny looked out into the forest.

"Let's go find out." I started to walk in the direction the cry came from.
