33: Hi'gh Auction
As we walked into the airport arrivals, I pulled on a big fedora hat and a dark pair of shades before dragging my luggage out to the terminal with my family.
We had just gotten outside the airport and I was about to call us a taxi when a posh, slick car pulled up in front of us.
I was staring at the car, trying to get a glimpse of the persons inside when the driver strode out.
"Penny?!"
"Surprise!" My agent exclaimed with glee. She was putting on black shades. She was looking more beautiful and relax than before, her red hair was left loose and for the first time, she was wearing a blue sweatshirt and loose pants.
"But how-did you-know?" I was very confused. I didn't mention my arrival to anyone except Jersey who told me she couldn't make it to pick us up so we were on our own.
"Jersey told me so I decided to come and get you." She removed her glasses as she turned her head to my mum. "Hi, Mrs. Daniels am Penelope, Ruby's agent, it's so nice to meet you. I heard so much about you and I am really sorry for your loss. From what I have heard, he was truly a good man"
Then she turned to my brother, "hi. You must be Ruby's brother Grant. Have heard about you too am really sorry about your father. I believe he was a great man. Ruby always talked about him."
Mum smiled sadly, "yes he was." Mum turned to me. "Ruby looks so much like him, that's what keeps me moving. Thank you so much, Miss Penelope Cornel. For taken care of her for me."
"Mum!!" I was embarrassed.
"No worries Mrs. Daniels you can call me Penny or Penelope anyone you like." She said, smiling brightly. She looked so beautiful that I felt like dull shine next to her.
Penny waved a hand like she was swatting a fly.
"Then you must call me Marie."
"Sure will....Marie. Now please, let's get going it's almost dark. Besides Ruby and I have businesses to discuss."
After all our bags were in the trunk, we hopped into the car. I and Penny sat in the front while Grant and Ma sat in the back.
As soon as she stared the car, I check the time. It was 6: 15. Ma and I had decided that we would all stay in my penthouse.
Zach by now he would probably be at home already, I thought.
I was going to see Zach soon and butterflies had already taken residence in my stomach. I also wondered how Tamra and Authur were doing. I miss them so.
I had told my mother and brother about Tamra a few weeks after dad's incident and they were anxious to meet my lookalike.
"The industry hasn't been the same without you, Ruby. Swapped up production team has all the scenes you are appearing put on hold. Should I call and tell them you are back?"
"Yes. Call Melissa, tell her I'll be back to work first thing Monday morning." I declared. Today was Thursday and Drew's party was tomorrow there was no way I was going to miss it.
"There is also a charity auction tonight at Hollywood you're supposed to be there to used that to show your fans that you are back from your hiatus." She explained as she turned into a corner. I went through my Instagram when I saw a picture of me at the airport moments before I had put on my disguises. It was tagged newbie actress returns.
I recalled a photographer at the airport taking a quick shot of me. I thought he was taken pictures of Normani few meters behind me but I was wrong.
"There is no need for me to appear, Penny. The media already knows am here, it's only a matter of time before the public finds out." I told her, stretching my phone forward for her to see the picture.
"Speaking of flights...Ruby, who was the charming man you talked to throughout the flight?"
Grant laughed, "A man? Ruby isn't hot enough to get a guy's attention. I bet she was talking to a boy probably a six-year-old." He smirked.
I rolled my eyes at him. Every time, something happens, Grant always bad-mouths me.
"Oh, a man. Do tell." Penny cooed.
"A guy. My new friend, his name is Kazim Majid. He is an artist, he travels the world for inspirations."
"He sounds like a nice man," Mum said. "He got you off my back through the flight, wouldn't any happier," she added.
"More like a nice boy," Grant muttered to himself. I picked up a bottle of water and threw it at him. Quickly, he moved away and it missed him, landing at the back seat. He picked up ready to aim it at me when Ma collected the bottle from him.
"Enough. I made the mistake of asking about Kazim. Now both of you, sit still. At last, I remembered, you both aren't children," mum said firmly.
"Sure mum."
Immediately, we settled down. Mum was an authoritative freak when she wanted to. I remembered when I was still in high school and snuck out for a party. She waited for me in the living room and finally by 2 am, I showed up.
She threw a shoe at me, missing me by a mere second. Still not satisfied, she grounded me for a whole full month, including doing all the house chores.
From the corner of my eye, Grant stuck his tongue out at me. I rolled my eyes, he couldn't get any less elementary.
Soon we stopped in front of an all familiar building, my apartment. The bellboys quickly rushed in to help us with our bags and soon all the bags where gone.
I looked at the apartment, it was bigger than I remember. I barely stayed in the apartment anymore. I guess that's what happens when you stay away from a place for too long, you start to see things in a different light.
"The apartment has two bedrooms," I called as I walked around to turn on the lights. When I was through, I walked back to the living room. Ma and Grant were nowhere in sight Penelope was seated on one of the high chairs in the kitchen, nursing a bottle of water and typing away on her tablet.
She looked in the direction, "just informed Melissa and she is elastic but she says if you aren't up for it, you can always reschedule."
"No, no need," I replied, heading into the kitchen and opening the fridge to grab mineral water.
"Okay. Are you sure you don't want to attend the auction? I mean it's not too late to get you on the guest list. Should I get Zoey to come over for a few workouts?"
"Sorry, Penny but no. I have somewhere to be tomorrow and I want to use this opportunity to get my belongings from Zach's penthouse."
The thought of seeing Zach gave mixed feelings. I surely would be happy, overjoyed but I would have nothing to say to him about my cowardice.
I looked at the time seven o'clock again. He might already be back from work. But if I hurry, I might not run into him also I could too.
I shut my eyes tightly, maybe hopefully, he would be busy with work and she would be out before he came back.
I opened my eyes that was a good plan but one can only hope.
"Zach is at the auction," Penny said, slicing a knife through my thoughts.
"Really. That's great." Now I won't even accidentally collide with him in any way.
She nodded and I smiled. "So where are Tamra and Arthur now?" I could also spend time with them too. I miss them so.
"Tamra is at his housekeeper's while Arthur is at home. I have been here a few times to confirm it."
A feeling passed through me what was she doing at Zachary's place?
Oh! I see! Am off then," I said not bothering to change out of my tee and jean shorts. I picked my purse, a face cap, a hoodie, and dark shades before heading for the door.
Penelope stared at me as I picked the items and headed for the door when she called, "aren't you going to let me take you there? And besides, how are you going to get inside Zach's penthouse?"
"Don't worry about me. I'll manage on my own." Strangely, I didn't feel like talking to her anymore talk less of seating in the same car with her.
And as for Zach's penthouse, I could get in, I just would. With the keycard, I forcefully collected from him of course.
