14: Hi'gh Float Part 1

I take a quick look around the lobby to find the Jennings (that's Jersey's surname) seated at a far-off corner. I couldn't sense or hear Zach's footsteps close by which gave me a sense of relief.

I didn't want to break down in front of him, showing that am having feelings which I shouldn't. I actually had the strong urge to bail from the carnival, get into my car, lock the doors and play a lot of sad songs and cry loudly.

But, I promised and maybe the carnival won't be bad at all.

I strolled over to the Jennings, my heart melted at the sight in front of me. Jersey and Andre were performing a show for Drew with his favorite action figures. Both parties were seated on the lobby's carpet and Drew was giggling and clapping loudly from his seat, pretty eager if you ask me. Andre was making imaginary flying noises while holding the Batman up in the air.

"Pheeeeww! Don't worry Wonderwoman! Batman is coming to save you," he said, whilst Jersey was giggling quietly not to break character.

I stopped walking a few distances away from them, watching the show. A minute later, it ended with Batman losing all his power and money to live happily ever after with wonder woman.

And I missed the whole show, well at least I got to watch the beautiful ending. Which brought tears to my eyes. Raising my phone to my ear, I call Johnny. As usual, it went straight to voicemail. I call Penny minutes later but hers was turned off.

I was literary drowning in my own misery. I got angry over a silly thing, my boyfriend and agent are ignoring me.

My life was already far from perfect. Well, today was the sixth day of fake marrying Zach and there I was already hurt. A brighter light glowed into my life when Drew spotted me he ran as fast as his legs could carry him to me.

"Ruby, Ruby, Ruby. Did you see what mom and dad did?" He said excitedly reaching me, his blue eyes twinkling. I realized he got most of the looks from Andre, his father. They were both dirty blondes and brown eyed. Drew was cute but his father was a normal guy. No muscles, not a perfect magazine cutout shape and a handsome face with styled glasses.

Unlike some other, I don't know, a very random glorious body. I hear very familiar footsteps behind me. Well, speak of the devil.

Drew ran over to Zach, talking excitedly about what his parents did and Zach, on the other hand, lifted him to rest in his shoulders.

Without looking over to Zach. Although, I could feel his gaze burning through my skull. I saunter towards Jersey and Andre.

"Hi, guys." Jersey takes one look at my appearance before smiling widely at me. "I love your overall, they are so legit. You know, I was planning to go shopping tomorrow. You should come, get yourself dresses and all."

Again, there goes my plans of Riverdale, but it was worth trying to get new clothes. Monday, was my day off and since Penelope poofed, I became my own agent and believe me, it's not pretty or easy.

Suddenly, wooden cologne and Drew squeals hit me, meaning Zach was getting closer to Jersey and me.

Oh, my God, I wasn't ready to face him without becoming an emotional mess. Please something, someone, anyone save me.

Zach had stopped a few inches away from me when Dennis strolled into the hall. Announcing the car was ready. The sudden urge to hug Dennis was inevitable but I didn't. In fact, I was the first person out of the lobby, strolling to the parking lot.

The latter appeared a few minutes later, Zach leading the group. Dennis appeared a minute later, immediately he unlocked the car. I made a mad dash to the front passenger seat, putting my ass down. I think there was a rule against seating in front passenger seat of a limo, but who said rules aren't meant to broken and besides I didn't want to be holed at the back with Zach giving me weird looks from a few feet away.

Jersey and Zach noticed my actions. Jersey gave me and then Zach a confused look. While Zach said nothing he narrowed his eyes to slits at me before climbing into the limo.

Yes! It was a limo.

And it wasn't usual to sit at the front, but I did it anyway.

Dennis also noticed my action, I mean how wouldn't he? I was seated in the front seat.

It wasn't normal.

He didn't say anything, only giving me a suspicious look. I rolled my eyes at him as he sat down, "what, am just here to keep you company." And he didn't look like he bought it.

But he drove off anyway.

Thirty minutes of me singing along to most sad songs I knew on the radio. We finally arrived at the pier. Which was already in full swing. I climbed out of the car along with the others.

Suddenly, I was excited. I couldn't wait to enter the Ferris wheel. The late afternoon sun shun brightly making me wince most times. That's when I realize, Zach's shades.

Drew, who was no longer in Zach's arms clapped eagerly before dragging both his parent's arms to the ticketing area. "Hey, guys! We would be right back, going to get us tickets," Jersey yelled over her shoulder as Drew pulled them. Leaving me with him.

I stared intently at the floor and my shoes, I was wearing new sneakers which I got at the mall a few days ago. It was black and white, the soles... "Ruby, about what I said in the elevator. I didn't mean it to make you sad or angry."

My head whipped up to look at him before bursting into forced laughter. "Me, angry at you? I wasn't angry. I was PMSing that's why," I said, grinning at him.

He looked happy for a minute before wearing an amused look.

"You're PMSing? He laughed until he saw the look on my face and, quickly put himself in order before continuing. "I haven't seen a woman feel comfortable when talking about PMSing! Back in high school, Jersey would freak every time Andre and I talked about it."

"Wait, you all went to the same high school?" I questioned, Jersey never mentioned that part of the story before. "Yes but not the same college precisely, Jersey and I stayed together here while Dre went to new york."

I didn't get the chance to reply because Jersey signaled at us to come closer. Saying a quick bye to Dennis, Zach and I walked over.

"So we got the tickets, which ride should we get on first," Andre said, flipping the tickets for us to see. I opened my mouth to say Ferris wheel but closed it. I tagged along on a friend and family trip, at least, they should pick all the rides and I won't mind.

"Let's go to the Ferris wheel!" Drew said. He was standing on his two feet now and we all had to look down at him.

Thank you, Drew.

With everyone watching, I held out my hand for Drew who took it, grinning from ear to ear. "To the Ferris wheel!" I commanded with a goofy voice and Jersey and Andre chocked down their laughs with multiple throat clearing.

But I didn't care, I alongside Drew matched past lot of game booths with the others slow on our trail. We stopped right in front of the ride, waiting for others to catch up.

After lots of huffing and puffing, they finally did! Well like ten minutes later, Andre and Zach got to us within five minutes while Jersey took the complete ten minutes.

"Okay, let's go in," Jersey said as Drew let go of my hand and slipped it into his dad's, they both headed off to meet Jersey who was already talking to someone, shoving the tickets in front of his face. Signs of fatigue clearly making way to her face thirty minutes we arrived and she was already tired.

I was left with Zach again. I started walking to our companions when Zach fell into a step with me. I walk a few feet before stopping, my instincts felt like I was been followed. I turned around to see two hefty guys all wearing suits and dark shades, walking towards us at full speed.

I turned back and started walking again. My pace increasing at every step, my heart beat speeding up every minute, I was becoming frantic.

Zach on the other hand, walked beside me calmly having no problem in the world. Immediately one of the men arms tapped Zach's shoulder. I screamed "take him, please. I still have much to leave for, by the way, he is way rich, probably the richest in California-

"Ruby"

"You can do anything to him. I don't mind, I mean, I probably be happy..."

"Ruby!" Zach snapped in authority making me shut up.

"Shut up. This is my bodyguard Jeff." He said, gesturing at the tall, large smiling man standing next to him. "Hi," he said, I half smiled in his direction. He looked totally nice, cheerful and friendly, he also looked like a large, warm and fuzzy Teddy bear.

"And this is your bodyguard Dennis, you remember him right." Zach drawled at me whilst Dennis, on the other hand, was having a moment muffle laughing throwing him a look, he stopped.

Dennis and I were friends. I mean, am not that bad to everyone, I was friendly well, most of the time.

"Ooh, am sorry Jeff, for thinking you wanted to kidnap me. And well, your boss too," I said solemnly. Jeff just smiled at me before moving closer to me. I had to raise my head higher so I could see his face. He was pretty much taller than my 5.1.

"It's okay Ruby," Jeff said before something caught his eye and he continued talking, pointing at the Ferris wheel, "better go boss, the Ferris wheel is getting packed."

Zach nodded at him before turning to me and grabbing my hand, he started walking both of us towards the ride. I was surprised at his sudden touch and the shiver contact with me, I try to pry my hands out of his but no avail.

"So you want me dead huh?" He said as we walked on.

No, my heart answered but my mouth said: "yes, I actually do."

"You are an idiot."

"Naah, you are the idiot, idiot."

"Stupid."

I opened my mouth to talk but Jersey beat me to it, "that's more like it, they are back," she said smugly.

To be honest, I had no idea how I got on the Ferris wheel and how I had gotten off the ground. Why I was currently seated next to Zach with Jersey, Andre and Drew a seat away from us.
