season one, episode one
( come and get it )
Audrey had been packing her bags as she had her dad yelling at her about how the sun was going to get set soon and that she needed to get on the road before dark.
She had spent the whole day with her dad wishing her goodbyes, her I love you's to him.
Audrey had also gone on walks with him before the rain had came pouring down. Hazelwood would barely rain in the '70s.
It was rare for it to pour in their town.
The phone soon rang, she ran straight to the phone placing it on her ear with a smile. "Hello?" Her soft voice made someone smile through the phone.
"Hey," Eddie's voice sounded tired, or low, as you could barely hear his voice. "I'm about to head out and walk to your place." Audrey smiled.
"Do you happen to have an umbrella on you, Dina?" Eddie spoke silvery. The nickname was created by her father and soon Eddie caught on about the name.
Audrey nodded. "Yeah! I'm assuming you don't have one so I should take one huh?" She pawed her face. Eddie chuckled through the phone.
"Yeah. I might show up at your house with wet hair." Eddie replied as Audrey sent him goodbye before hanging up the phone.
She had previously written out a song to him that she was never going to sing to him, or basically anyone for that matter.
She had only shown her dad the song, he convinced her if the band doesn't work out for her, she should go on to being a professional singer and sing the song.
She had a good voice of what her old high school friends would tell her. She would sing songs with them and even go to karaoke and sing some of their favorite songs together.
AUDREY: I don't think the song I wrote for Eddie was pretty good, that's what Billy had said about it when I first showed him. [pause] He said it was shit. Basically, any song I wrote was shit to him. [scoffs]
The doorbell had rung. Her dad had answered it and spotted Eddie dripping wet with rain. Audrey's father sighed as Eddie took off his shoes carefully before stepping into the house.
Audrey emerged from her door. She spotted Eddie with wet hair and his clothes soaked. She smiled at him as her father handed him a towel to dry his hair.
As he was drying his hair Audrey quickly snuck back into her room pretending to pack more things. She placed her songbook hidden in a small slot before Eddie snuck behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
Audrey pretended to be startled at his movements but was found with butterflies around her stomach. "Eddie," She closed her eyes as the corners of her mouth were lifting. "you're all wet!" She laughed as Eddie laughed with her.
"It'll dry." He replied placing his chin on her left shoulder. She could feel the smile appearing on his face.
Audrey moved away from him and she was turning to face him. "We have to get going, Warren's probably going to leave us if we don't go now."
Eddie shrugged, "Your dad has an extra car. It could just be us driving to California and meeting them there." Audrey rolled her eyes. "He'll never trust me driving that classic car to California."
Eddie pretended to frown before he pursed his lips together. "Worth a shot." Eddie walked to her suitcases and shut them closed.
He grabbed them as he glanced to Audrey. She gave a lopsided grin to him before he walked away to the door. Audrey turned to look for the umbrella in her room.
She found it in her closet, before rushing to Eddie outside. "Okay! We should go now." She smiled before opening the umbrella for the two of them.
Her father opened the door with a bag full of snacks. "Here. I know you guys are going to need it for the road. There's also some cash in there for gas, basically anything."
Audrey took the bag from her father as she thanked him. "I love you, Dina." He sniffed as Audrey placed a kiss on his cheek before walking away with Eddie. "Love you, Dad."
The two shared peals of laughter together as Audrey carries the bag with snacks and the umbrella. As Eddie carried her bags.
Eddie had dropped off his bags with Warren earlier that day. So his hands weren't that full.
"I'm actually pretty nervous. We're going to be in the van for almost a whole week. Do you think Cami's going come?" Audrey asked they walked another block to Graham and Billy's house.
Eddie nodded his head, "We're not going to be in there for a whole week!" Eddie laughed, watching her features. "Depends, if she does, it'll be fun with her in California with us."
"Do you think we'll get big? Like The Ronettes big?" She whispered to him. "Possibly. If we don't get big like The Ronettes, we can both get jobs. I'll get us an apartment, then we could move into those houses like our parents have and we could start a family."
AUDREY: I'm not sure if he was joking about the family...
EDDIE: I wasn't joking about the family.
Audrey blinked as she scratched the side of her nose. They had made it to Graham's house in time as Warren was placing his luggage onto the rack on the car roof.
"Hey! We were just going to leave without you two!" Warren greeted them as they both smiled to him. "Why don't you get in the van? I'll put these up for you." Eddie offered as Audrey shook her head. "You don't need any help?" He shook his head.
Eddie stepped out of the umbrella as he placed Audrey's suitcases on the rack. She made her way into the van as she watched Eddie get soaked again in rainwater.
He was squinting his eyes careful not to get water in his eyes as he looked up. "Let's get a move on."
Audrey watched as he strapped down the suitcases. He was about to step into the van and sit next to Audrey before a voice chimed in.
"Got room for one more?"
AUDREY: I'm glad she came with us. She's family, and I also wouldn't be the only girl on the road.
CAMILA: They're my family I had to move to California with them. But I really moved with them for Audrey in the end. [laughs]

Audrey had fallen asleep on Eddie's shoulder while they were in Texas. He was smoking a cigarette as she was asleep. Camila had turned on her camera and recorded the two next to each other.
Audrey wasn't aware of it but when she found out laughed.
Eddie had fallen asleep next to her as well as Graham had taken the well for Warren to sleep. The rest of the band had fallen asleep as Camila and Graham were both in the front of the van chatting.
Eddie had lied down taking Audrey down with him. She had felt an arm wrap around her waist as they both continued to stay asleep. Her hand was on his chest as her head and his head collided.
Camila had spotted them lying in that position and had taken a video. She soon turned to camera to Graham who made a silly face to the camera before focusing back on the road.
They had come to a stop for gas. Graham had honked the horn to alert them and awake them all. They all jumped up and were propped on their shoulders.
Audrey had rubbed her eyes, "Dude, you're not funny." Audrey mumbled in a raspy voice. Camila started to laugh as Graham rolled his eyes and got out of the car.
"Where are we Cami?" Billy asked as he yawned, Camila had picked up the map from her lap as she examined it she found where they were.
"New Mexico." She looked up at them as they all nodded before yawning. "I'm going to go get some snacks. Anyone of you wanna come?" Audrey asked as she placed her shoes onto her feet. Eddie was the first to volunteer as the rest just stayed in the van.
The two had needed the stretch after sleeping on each other for about two days. They both shared laughs as the three plus Graham placing gas into the van looked to them.
WARREN: You could tell Audrey had feelings for Eddie. But Eddie was just too dumb to realize he had feelings for her.
CAMILA: He was too oblivious to see Audrey as something more than a best friend.
GRAHAM: When Audrey entered the room his eyes always would light up.
BILLY: They were just two eighteen-year-olds in love.
AUDREY: They all said that? [laughs]
EDDIE: Were they wrong? No. I was too oblivious to see I was in love with her. Even then, when we were kids.
Audrey had walked to the snack aisle as Eddie had made his way to the drink freezer. A guy had walked up to Audrey pretending to look for a snack.
"You should get caramel popcorn. There the town favorite here." The guy spoke. Audrey nodded and glanced to him.
She smiled, "Any other snacks you recommend?" She asked as she grabbed the snack he recommended.
"Yeah..." He looked Audrey up and down before he licked his lips. Audrey felt a bit of un-comfort as she started to fidget with her hands.
Eddie was watching from afar before he saw the guy look Audrey up and down. He felt the same feeling when he saw Audrey on that date a few nights ago. He rushed his way over to Audrey before placing an arm over his shoulder.
"Here you go, babe." Eddie had handed her a drink. He smirked at her. "I got your favorite before we hit the road again." Audrey was shocked by his gesture but she grabbed the drink from him.
The guy had looked to Eddie before Eddie looked to the man. "Oh hey man. Sweet Dina, you got my favorite snack." Eddie smiled. "Yeah! I also got Warren and other guys their snacks too."
Audrey and Eddie walked away. The guy was left standing alone in the aisle as Audrey and Eddie looked at each other and laughed.
They both walked out after they paid for their snacks to see the group waiting in the car for them. They slid the door open with Eddie holding the door for Audrey to go in first.
She thanked him as she stepped in and threw a few extra snacks to Warren who chuckled at himself for getting the snack he loved thrown at him.
"That took you guys long enough." Camila wiggled her brows as she was still in the passenger seat. "We had... a situation," Audrey replied as she laughed awkwardly with Eddie.
EDDIE: I know that guy just felt embarrassed.
"That keyboardist really added something to that mix, didn't she?" Graham went on as Camila smoked her joint. "Who, Karen?" She asked inhaling another puff.
Graham nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, Karen."
"Why don't you give her a call then? If you like her so much." Audrey replied teasing Graham. Graham threw a pillow at her as Warren asked Eddie to take over the wheel.
Audrey and Eddie switched places with Warren as he pulled over.
AUDREY: Eddie had to be driving from New Mexico all the way to Hollywood. And then a few nights later we finally got to California. [smiles]
Audrey had been smoking a joint as Eddie drove down the strip. Audrey had been looking out the window admiring all the lights.
Sure, she was high but she felt amazed by all the lights on the strip. Graham was strumming his guitar as Billy was singing a song.
They were all feeling it as Audrey passed the joint to Eddie.
Eddie took a puff as Camila took her camera out and took pictures of people dancing and smiling on the strip.
Warren had waved to some girls in a car as they all shouted at him. "Man, I love Hollywood," Warren muttered as Audrey and Eddie started to laugh.
The van passes down another street as a red-headed girl smiles at Audrey. Audrey noticed her eyes and how bright they were. What she didn't notice is Billy was looking at the same girl.
