Mental illnesses

Mental illnesses are very serious and so if you do write about them you need to be very careful how you interpret them as they are touchy subjects that have recently been glorified by social media.

If you have never experienced a mental illness and want to write about it then I suggest you research said illness to get the best results and to make it the most realistic.

Somethings I hate about a lot of fanfictions is that they make it seem like it's such a beautiful thing to have a mental illness. It's really not.

Depression isn't a pretty boy kissing your scars telling you how gorgeous you still are. You'd be really self conscious about them and you'd probably try your hardest to hide them. Do NOT fall into the pattern of making them seem nice and simple.

Anxiety is not thinking everyones looking at you and just bathing in it, it's getting really worried about what people think and wanting to throw up because you think everyone's looking at you.

If Daryl/Glenn/Carl/Rick ect say they're gonna get you help then show how, do research if you don't know the kind of help they can give you.

Don't make Rick a total ass about it if your character suffers, he would be compassionate and delicate with the situation.

That being said, the problem wouldn't go away as soon as they've said "it'll be fine" because it doesn't.

Self harm is another truly misunderstood problem. It's not crying and slitting your wrists then being fine 10 seconds after, the pain stays with you for a long time as do the scars.

Depression also isn't something people do for attention, it's how people feel, if they go around screaming "I'm so depressed" they're an attention seeking whori that needs to be put down. (No offense)

People will write about them, I get that. But if you are, don't glorify them and make them seem fun. They're really not.

--Thanks.
