30|"I'm The One Who Saved Her!"

<Tris's POV>

My forearm hits his throat and I slam him into the weak wall behind him. A loud thump and crack sounds off when his back hits the sheetrock. The picture of Christina's look of approval is seared into my mind. Fueling my fire. "Tris let him go and let me explain," Tobias says placidly. I just push harder in Peter's throat.

"Why don't you explain while I control the bastard," I snarl back at him angrily. His slow footsteps get louder as he reaches my side and rubs his forehead.

"Okay I know what he has done to you-"

"You mean help rape her, try and remember I'm the one who saved her," Uriah interrupts Tobias. At least I know I can count on Uriah and Christina to back me up.

"Uriah shut your trap and let me explain," Tobias snaps impatiently. "When I was falling off the bridge Peter is the one who shot this new defense weapon Erudite made that shoots this force field type landscape that I landed on, saving my life. Then while I laid unconscious and useless he watched over me. He helped me look for you and he is the one that came up with the idea to write all the messages on everything in sight. You can thank him for getting me to you," Tobias tells me. His statement doesn't affect me in the slightest. It only makes me angrier.

"No Tobias, I can thank my friends! And Caleb! Not some abusive teenager who has never cared about anyone in his life!" I scream back, purposely spitting on Peter's face in the process.

"Tris for gods sake just give him a chance," Tobias begs angrily. I glare as meanly as I can manage into Peter's eyes before I let him drop nonchalantly to the ground. His limbs are weak and the first thing he does is take a deep breath.

"I can't believe you are taking his side over mine!" I scream in Tobias's face. Tobias rolls his eyes.

"He saved my life and I owe him!" He defends. Before with can even think of something to say Uriah chimes in.

"He also could almost ended Tris's... twice," Uriah points out as he holds up two fingers.

"Oh keep it to yourself," Zeke complains towards Uriah. Uriah turns his head slowly towards Zeke with burning eyes.

"Alright big brother you wanna come at me-"

"Shut it!" Shauna shouts as her hands flail over her head. All of her tendons stretching.

"Let them have their fun," Lynn says as she looks down at her nails bored.

"This isn't fun! He is defending an idiot!" I scream at Lynn, gesturing to Tobias. Tobias glares at me angrily and screams.

"How many different ways can I say it? He sa-"

"Saved your life, ya we get it," Caleb says annoyed. I catch Lynn smirk at Caleb when he says this, but she quickly hides it.

"Who are you again?" Tobias asks carelessly. Caleb shoots him a glare.

"Your girlfriends brother, Eaton," Caleb snarls.

"Caleb," I warn.

"No no Tris let him smack talk me, I'll break his neck," Tobias states while puffing out his chest.

"Ok why don't we just calm down," Marlene states worriedly.

"Can it Mar," Zeke tells her. Uriah punches Zeke right on the jaw.

"Wanna try talking like that again Zeke?" Uriah cautions. We are all mad at each other now and I don't see a way out. Zeke and Uriah begin to brawl and as Tobias tries to pull Zeke off Uriah, Marlene tries to pull Uriah off Zeke.

Shauna looks at Caleb with disgust. "Wanna help Prior?" I'm about to stand up for him when Lynn slaps her sister across the face.

"Wanna shut it?" Lynn hisses. Shauna regains balance and slaps Lynn across the face before tugging on Lynn's hair so hard she falls to the ground. Shauna brings her foot into Lynn's gut. She only gets a chance to do so once before Caleb pulls Shauna away. The girl fights back and ends up hitting Caleb in the face. To protect my brother I punch Shauna square in the nose. The two of us quickly engage in battle.

<Lynn's POV>

I lay limp on my side on the cold concrete ground. My cheek is burning and red. It hurts like a thousand little needles poking at the skin at every chance they can get. My palm rubs over the raw skin to somehow console the pain. When I turn my head up a bit I see Caleb's brown eyes staring into mine kindly. His pale hand extended in front of me. An offering of help that goes much deeper than just helping me off the floor. It's really an apology for fighting earlier. No words need to be said. All I need are the stress lines in his hands that take mine gracefully. And the tensing muscles that appear when he pulls me up off the ground gracefully. My hair stretches to the ground as I am pulled upright with ease. Our brown eyes stay locked on each other. The loud breathes coming from both of our mouths mix. My hand stays entangled with his as I move closer to him. Our chests barely touch. I can feel the heat from his body radiating onto mine, wrapping me in a blanket of his warmth. His scent fills up my nose like a delightfully strong perfume. I take it all in as we move even closer. His head moves down and I bring mine up. My eyes close just as I catch Caleb do the same thing. I tilt my head back just enough. Our lips move closer and closer together until they finally reach each other. His plush bottom lip is squished between mine. My top lip gets nipped at kindly. Our hands stay locked by our sides. I can hear his heart beat thumping at an equivalent rate to mine. Slow and steady, completely calm. My short strands of hair stay away from our lips like they know that this moment is too beautiful to interfere with.

The fighting continues around us as we kiss. How can something so peaceful be surrounded by such stupidity and violence? Soon the yells quite down and the thrashing of fabrics slows. I can sense the stares of our friends around us even as my eyelids stay locked down. Caleb and I don't stop kissing quite yet. We only stop after Peter says to everyone around us, "it's about time you guys noticed." When I open my eyes I see everyone is awestruck around us. Marlene's mouth is hanging open with a split lip. Tris's eyes are dreamy and wide. Uriah looks like he doesn't know what to do with himself. I take a single step back from Caleb. His brown eyes continue to stare at me as I smirk at everyone.

"Blink Tris, your eyes are gonna dry out," I say wittily. She blinks rapidly as I walk towards the giant hole in the wall. On the way out I push up on Marlene's unlocked jaw. "Close your mouth Mar, you're catching flies." I sashay into the hole and sit in it calmly. Everyone continues to stare at me. "What? It's still our watch isn't it?" I ask cockily, with a little bit of mock annoyance. None of them move so I roll my eyes in agitation. "Apologize to each other and we will talk civilly tomorrow," I suggest. They all just look at each other dumbfounded and then nod or shake hands or mutter sorry and hug it out casually. Then just as planned they all head to sleep and Caleb comes and joins me for our watch.

We sit quietly for awhile. I'm quite at peace for once in my life. It's calming to feel the breeze on my bare face. Feel it ruffle through my hair. It's even calming to just hear the quiet snores from my peaceful friends. I glance over at them and take it all in. Tris and Four are sleeping next to each other despite their fresh fight. I don't blame them. Tris thought Four was dead and now she has him back. How cliche is that? Uriah and Marlene are practically one person considering how close they are spooning together. If they saw me staring at them I would gag at my best friends, but since they are asleep I don't have put up the act of phony disgust. Shauna and Zeke sleep facing each other. Their hands are clasped between their still bodies. Peter sleeps in a heap in the dark corner. Completely isolated. He deserves to be alone after all he has done. But Four also does have a point that he saved his life and it's only modest for Four to owe Peter something.

Caleb fidgets with the zipper on his jacket anxiously and bites his bottom lip. I look back out at the damaged city knowingly as he moves around uncomfortably across from me. Finally Caleb bursts when he can't hold it in anymore. "What did it mean?" He exclaims. I turn my head slowly towards him. His hands have obviously been run through his hair because his curls are all tangled and out of place. Caleb's eyes are wild and prying. Typical Prior.

"What did what mean?" I ask. Of course I know what he means, but this is so much more amusing.

"The kiss," Caleb answers quickly. I smirk at him for a split second before letting out a small sigh.

"All I can say is don't expect another one any time soon," I say teasingly. Caleb mumbles something to himself. I almost laugh. Almost.

"But what did it mean?" He repeats. The smirk fades from my face and my eyes become lifeless and fixed on the city scape. Here we go again.
