NASCAR Xfinity Series Ross Chastain's rising superstardom stopped
In the NASCAR Xfinity series there are rising stars trying to make a name for themselves. Ross Chastain was one of those drivers. The 26 year old used to be a watermelon farmer from Alva Florida who had the dream of being a NASCAR driver. In 2011 he'd get a top 10 in the truck series and run full time the following year. In 22 starts he'd get a top 5 and 4 top tens but in 2013 Ross would score four top fives and 7 top 10s in 14 starts. In those starts he'd score two pole positions with Brad Keselowski Racing in 2013 which in a way was his first big break as BKR in the truck series was a powerhouse team. He'd spend 2014 doing part time for Jimmy Dick and Shigeaki Hattori in the Xfinity series. This would land him a full time ride with Jonny Davis for the next 4 years. Ross Chastain would race a lot trying to build his resume by doing part time in the truck series and even a little bit of Cup racing in 2017 even though they might not be the highest quality of rides. In the truck series he scored 2 top 10s in 2017. The following year he'd get a top five and 6 top 10s in 23 races. But the 24th would be a opportunity of a lifetime. Chip Ganassi racing decides to give Ross Chastain 3 races in the number 42 car to see what he can do. Darlington would be one of those 3 races. And he started from provisional pole and he would not just lose it at the start but he would keep it among the likes of Chase Elliot, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, and Kevin Harvick. He would have to race Harvick and Keselowski two Cup series champions and if you go by the Xfinity phrase "names are made here" he was making a statement about what he could do in a race winning car. When racing against the 2014 cup champion he might lose the lead but not for long as he would do crossover moves or just wait for the right time to strike back. He was having none of it as Kevin Harvick and Ross Chastain racing for the lead into turn 2 they make contact and Ross Chastain would be in the wall and his chance for the win over. But however his next chance in the 42 car he would win in a dominanting style leading 180 of 200 laps at Las Vegas. And then in his last race with the 42 car he would finish 2nd at Richmond. He would miss the cutoff to get into round 2, his talent was obvious. And it would be rewarded as in the offseason he would be announced to race full time in 2019 with the number 42 Chip Ganassi team. The big break for Ross Chastain needed has finally arrived. A chance to even become a NASCAR champion is on the cards for 2019 until his sponsor DC Solar CEO Jeff Carpoff was raided by the FBI for tax evasion. So that was sketchy as due to this Chip Ganassi decides to cease operations for the 42 Xfinity series team! All of this cause Ross Chastain a ride through no fault of his own. He will return to JD Motorsports for 30 of the next 33 races and the other 3 will be the number 10 Kaulig Racing machine. But the chance to flex his muscle is gone. This makes everyone ask "What if Chip had gotten another sponsor to help Chastain out?" What if the DC Solar CEO had just done his dang taxes?" After seing such talented star not be able to shine it makes everyone ask what might have been for Ross Chastain?
