Chapter Thirty
John lay on his side, the wooden floor cold. The moon's light shined through the window, reflecting off his white shirt, and casting shadows across the walls. At the time though, the darkest shadow was in John himself.
You can stop trying to control me now, he thought fiercely.
Oh and what makes you think that?
I've chased you off a few times now. I'm getting stronger everyday, and that makes it easier to get you out of my head. You might as well stop trying.
Oh ho ho, look who's cocky. My good sir, I have tons of tricks up my sleeve yet. Yes, it's only just begun.
We'll see.
He rolled onto his back and looked up at the ceiling. The only noise was the rain, which had began to fall about an hour ago. While John did like the pitter pattering sound of the rain, he was planning on getting a fan soon. He just couldn't go to sleep without hearing some noise in the background. It didn't help that the evil thoughts of a demon-angel kept him up at night.
Slowly, he started to doze off, when all of the sudden there was a scratching sound at his door. Yawning, he opened the door. He was surprised to see that his visitor was a dog.
"Hey guy. You lost?", John asked, kneeling down and scratching the animal between the ears. "Sorry to say, you came to the wrong guy. I like cats more."
The dog growled, it's ebony fur standing up.
"What, you have a problem with cats? I always thought that that was just a stereotype."
The dog growled, and then barked repeatedly. To John's surprise, the dogs fur went smooth, and in the next instant, the whole animal took on a texture that reminded John of shattered glass. As the creature stepped forward, it's claws made a clicking sound.
"Uh.................... Good dog?"
John yelled as th monster leaped on him, it's claws and teeth digging into his skin. Then, aiming his hand up, red flames shut up, and the dogs whole mid section was melted solid, making it screech in pain. Kicking it off of him, it went sailing across the room, and as it hit the wall, it shattered to pieces. A second later, these all rebuilt.
"... You know, this is pretty normal now. So, I see that another one of you is climbing through my window right now. I'm gonna call him Jim, and then, you need a special name. Hmmm... How does Cujo sound?"
When the dog leaped at him, he grabbed it by the neck, and threw it at the other one, which was almost halfway through the window. When they collided, they formed a blob of shattered material, which went strait for his throat.
With a yelp, John found that he was completely trapped, the monster pinning him to the wall, and suffocating him at the same time. Well, at least he isn't trying to kill me... I think...... Well, he's gonna die anyways.
Crimson flames went everywhere, freezing the blob in place. Shattering it and freeing himself, John leaped to the side, and as the creature started to reform, he made sure the red demon fire covered all of it. When he was done, it was as frozen as a statue.
"......... Holy crud, why are you bad guys all so annoying?!?! I can't even kick you right now, because I absolutely know that you'll try and murder me then. Dang it, I hate you!"
Out of no where, with a crash, Levi came threw the wall, white flames forming a circular hole through his chest, which came out his back. Pulling himself out of the wall with a grunt, he looked at John, noticing the statue.
"They are annoying," he said, some of the stone armor covering him fixing the hole.
"Oh, so you've seen our new friends too?"
"They work with the Old World Gods. The Old World God minions are here as well. We need to capture one, or somehow replicate their metal exoskeletons. Our current weaponry is ineffective."
"Not too sure how we do that, yet, but we could at least take care if these guys," he said, gesturing to the statue.
"This plan works. We will have to figure out how to get the minions away afterwards. We will have to be quick though."
They both jumped out the window, John turning into Demon-angel form. As he landed on the street with a clanking sound, the rain sizzled against his armor, and the red flames hissed. "We'll definitely need to make this quick. This rain is gonna weaken me a lot."
All of the sudden, John and Levi were surrounded by three of the shapeshifting monsters, and two Old World God minions. They both had grins on their eyeless faces, and white flames came from their jaws.
"Hey Levi. How about this. You go beat up the minions, and I take care of these other guys."
"This seems like a reasonable plan, but I get the feeling that you only wish to have the easier job."
"Wo wo wo, that is definitely not true. And sense when do you recognize anything like that?", he said, chasing the monsters down the street.
Right as they were about to turn around a corner, John caught them, and throwing them onto the ground, he froze them with red flames, which sizzled in the rain.
He was right about to join Levi's fight when an Old World God minion pinned him to the ground, and with the metal plating coming off its face, a white beam of fire came out of its jaws, incinerating the metal plating on the demon-angels right arm, and causing him to scream in agony. "Good stuffing, that hurt! What's wrong with you, I just wanted to take the easy job. You guys scare me!!!"
With a quick burst of strength, the demon-angel metal plating went swirling in the air, with the red flames in it, and coming back together, aside from the right arm, John leaped at the monster, and gripping underneath the metal plating on its face, which could only be done by digging underneath its scales, John pulled as hard as he could. As he did, his claws grew more and more hot, until they glowed white. Then, with a screech of pain, the metal came off, and the monster went running off, white flames pooring off its face. When John dropped the metal, it burst into flames and disappeared.
A second later, Levi stood beside him, the rain pouring down. By now, a large crowd had gathered, and they now looked around in surprise, astonishment, even more surprise, and of course, fear. "I scared off the other two," Levi said.
"They'll be back. They always come crawling back."
Levi looked like he was about to say something, when all of the sudden the three newcomers, Mashi, Aiko, and Lee, along with a fourth figure, a white haired girl with green eyes, came racing down the streets.
"Wo wo wo, what's going on?", John asked, seeing the scared face of the girl.
"It's Dan!", she said, her eyes wide, almost looking like she would cry. "They're taking him right now!!!"
