Chapter Six
After their conversation, the sword guy introduced himself as Kristof, the glasses guy said his name was Frederick, and the girl never said her name, but Kristof said her name was Katherine, and that she was always grumpy and angry, which got him a punch in the face.
Then, John got a tore of the area. There were numerous stone and wood buildings. Some were houses, while others were for businesses, which included restaurant's, which John thought actually looked okay, and a few blacksmiths. On the outer parts of the place, was a giant ten foot thick stone wall, which guards with guns and crossbows patrolled every day. John could tell it wasn't the best way of keeping a demon out though. On some parts, there were black burn marks, and the cemetery in the center of town had supposedly grown a lot over the years.
At the time, John was in a guest room in a house, and was eating some bread and drinking some water, with two randomly picked guards watching over him. Earlier, Frederick had insisted that as a demon-angel, John didn't need to eat or sleep. John still wanted to though. He wasn't so sure he liked being a demon-angel, if it meant he had to give up everyday things like that.
Luckily though, as the sun began to set, John was able to rest in a good sized bed. He started dozing off, when all of the sudden, there was the sound of gunfire. John lifted his head up listening. The gunfire continued, and John leaped out of his bed and ducked down, when something gave an earth shattering roar, and ran past the house.
Ah crud. Yep, this is definitely the demon. I don't know what to do! What do people even do during demon attacks?!?! The demon had jumped onto the roof, and the ceiling cracked a little. John ran out of the room. The guards had left, probably to fight the demon or run, leaving John here to escape. Three guys ran past the house, firing up at the demon, and the third one was almost out of John's view, when something almost pitch black color leaped on him, crushing him instantly, and then, before John could see it clearly, it leaped into the shadows of the night filled town.
Uhhh!!! I'm freaking out so much right now!!! John opened the door and ran out the house, ducking down and checking out what was behind every corner. Does this mean I have to run away again?!?! I'm really starting get tired of that! As he turned another corner, he stopped dead in his tracks, and slowly backed away.
Ten feet away from him was the demon. It was eating something burnt he couldn't recognise, which he then thought was a good thing. It probably thirty feet long, with black scales all over it. It kind of reminded him of a lion, with it's strong front and back legs. It had a long, serpentine neck, a crocodile like head at the end, which had two small horns facing forward and diagonally up. It ate, growling to it's self, it's yellow cats eyes missing him as John ran off as silently as possible.
The night was eerily dark and silent. After running through the houses, which almost seemed like a maze, John found Kristof and Katherine. "John? How'd you get away?!?!", Kristof yelled surprised.
John looked behind himself, making sure the demon wasn't there. "The demon jest murdered a guy. He's eating him right by the place I was in. I ran off when the guards started fighting the thing. Or they just ran off and hid. Not sure which."
Katherine looked excited. "Maybe we could finally kill this thing Kristof!", but he just shook his head.
"We don't have the equipment."
"Could we chase him off?"
Katherine and Kristof starred at John. "Oh right, like we haven't tried that before, and we definitely aren't trying right now.", She said sarcastically.
"I'm serious!", John said. "You guys could use me as bait, and you beat this guy up, and scare him off."
Kristof gave him a doubtful look. "I'm not sure if it'll work guy, you don't seem like the bait kind of person. But, you are a demon-angel, so I guess that the demon will try and murder you. Katherine, will you go get your dad, and then try and meet up with us as fast as possible."
"Why, what's so special about her dad?", John asked as they walked off into the now silent part of town, and Katherine ran off in the other direction, mumbling to herself.
"He's the main guy everyone looks up to in these situations. Him and Katherine didn't originally live here. Picture their family as a bunch of monster hunters."
"Oh. He doesn't by any chance have a giant monster destroying shotgun does he?"
"Actually he does. Why?"
"No reason," John said, rubbing the spot on his head where the bullet hole was still healing.
