Prison Break

Takes place during CA:CW

"(Y/N), please look at me," he pleaded. His voice sounded so soft and broken; he almost convinced you to turn around.

No. You stood firm and refused to face him. He was standing outside of your cell, acting all innocent. You were fuming; at him a little bit, but mainly at yourself. How could you have been such an idiot?

"Sam?" He turned to his wing-man (Ha! See what I did there?) for help. Did he really not know?

Sam's voice came from the cell beside yours. "She saw your little exchange with Agent 13," he stated bluntly.

You sure had. You had walked up just in time to see him pull her into a long, loving kiss. The way that they'd looked into each other's eyes had made your heart sink. For the past two years, you had thought that maybe he'd thought of you as more than a friend. He had definitely acted like it. 'No, he hadn't, you blockhead!' you thought, 'He was just being the friendly gentleman that he is. "

You knew it was childish not to face him, but one look at him would probably send you to tears.

You were taken aback by the sound of his laughter behind you. 'He's laughing? Why the heck is he laughing?'

'Because you're a naive little girl who thought she'd found love!'

You turned around, not able to take it anymore. He was looking at the floor with a bashful smile plastered on his face. "What's so funny?" You asked, trying really hard to keep your voice from breaking.

The grin on his face vanished when he met your gaze, and was replaced by a look of sincerity. "What you saw wasn't... I mean it was... It wasn't real. Well, it was real, but..."

"He's trying to say he loves you," Sam interrupted.

"What?" you exclaimed, "How does kissing another woman translate into 'I love you'?" Had Sam gone mental from being in ocean-jail for too long? Was the water pressure getting to him or something? Steve's expression, however, seemed to say that he was right.

After staring at his feet for a few seconds, Steve continued. "We knew that you were going to come with us; that no matter what we said would have convinced you to stay back. So," he sighed, as if he felt horrible for what he was about to say next, "Sam and I put together a plan to keep you from doing anything crazy. I didn't know how Stark was going to respond. I was hoping that maybe you wouldn't even come to the airport."

You did end up still going to the airport. He was still your friend and he'd needed help. You weren't just going to abandon him because you had been wrong. After seeing Steve and Sharon, you drove there yourself instead of carpooling with the guys.

"When you didn't show up at the rendezvous location, I thought that the plan had failed. Why did you still fight with us after that?"

"You're my friend. I thought that you were counting on me to be there. I didn't want to let you down. Plus, I thought..." you trailed off, not wanting to finish the sentence. "I guess your plan did work a little bit."

"It did?" Steve looked at you in confusion.

"I would have fought harder if I hadn't seen that. I probably would have done something reckless."

"So, you forgive me?"

You thought for a moment. Of course you forgave him! How could you not when he was staring you down with those big blue puppy eyes? "I forgive you. I just wish you would have just told me."

"You wouldn't have listened," Steve, Sam, and Clint said in unison. To be honest, you had forgotten that Clint was there. Which is ridiculous considering he was in the cell on the other side of yours.

"You're right. I wouldn't have. But I would have been more careful!"

"I'm sorry. I've made a lot of poor decisions lately." Steve stared into the distance, probably reliving the past few days.

"We all have," said Sam.

"Can you let us out now?" Scott's voice came from one of the other cells.

"Yeah. I'm feeling a bit seasick." You added sarcastically.

Steve grinned. "Nah. I just came to talk."

Laughing, you pounded your fists on the glass. "Open the doors, you big meanie!"

The super soldier pretended to be appalled. "Not if you call me names!"

"Please?" you asked, pouting and putting on the sweetest voice you could muster.

"Fine." He stepped over to the control panel. After taking a few moments to figure out the buttons, he pressed one. The glass slid upwards and the bars retracted into the walls. Soon, you were all standing in the middle of the room. Clint helped Wanda out of her straight-jacket. She remained silent.

"Now what?" asked Sam.

"Any of you know how to get to Wakanda?"
