Chapter Four
*Three Months Later*
Thing's have been kinda hectic for me since the whole almost dying incident.
After I had been released from the hospital, Dr. Philips put me into heavy counseling.
As well as another stint in rehab since I had relapsed.
When Elizabeth had first went missing, I had went into a very dark place.
I had started skipping school so I could go hang out with people who I really shouldn't of been around.
At the age of sixteen I had already been to rehab for drug addiction.
That's actually where I had met Dr. Philips.
Once I had sobered up I fell into a pretty deep depression to the point that he had kept me there for a couple of months.
I couldn't get out of the place of blaming myself, then it was denial, then denial turned into anger.
I wasn't a pleasant person to be around for a couple of years, I had ran off all my friends, all except Jason that is.
No matter how many times I had tried to push everyone away, he was the only one who never gave up on me.
Dad and Mom eventually got tired of my bullshit, even though they would always tell me differently.
I could see it.
Everytime I'd fuck up, I'd get that look from them, that look that said.
When will you stop acting this way, just go back to being normal already.
I was even blamed by Moma a few times for Elizabeth's disappearance, which didn't help with what I was already going through.
That eventually led to me moving out at the age of seventeen.
Jason and I had both dropped out of highschool around the same time.
Jason had been going through some rough times as well.
His exact words being.
"You can only live with an abusive alcoholic of a Father for so long before you just cant take it anymore."
After that we both managed to get a full-time job at this diner down town, soon after we moved into a cheap apartment that was close to work.
We had been working at the diner for about half a year when we had decided to get our GED.
Shortly after that he went into nursing school while I went into art school.
We were barely into our first year of school when Jason had found out his Father had put himself into rehab, but Jason didn't really seem to care.
"Nathan are you even listening to me," Jason said, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Hmm." I looked away from the passenger window, as I turned my attention over to the drivers side of the car.
Jason sat there, giving me an annoyed look.
"I asked you if you wanted to get something to eat before you go home?"
"Uh, yeah sure," I said as he pulled into the drive thru to Taco Bell.
"This ok or you want something else?" Jason asked.
"No this is fine," I said, reaching into my back pocket to pull out my wallet.
"This one's on me," Jason said but I just ignored him as I opened my wallet, pulling out a twenty.
"No this is on me." Jason started to protest but after giving him my signature 'you better just shut up and let me do this look' he just turned his attention back to the line of cars infront of us.
"You know I haven't actually thanked you yet," I said causing Jason to give me a confused look.
"For what?"
"If you hadn't of showed up that night to check on me, I might not be here right now."
"You don't have to thank me Nathan," Jason said looking back in front of him, I could tell he didn't really wanna talk about this so I decided to go ahead and drop it for now.
I turned my attention back towards the window as Jason ordered for both of us.
We basically lived off of fast food when we were both in college, so he knew by now what I did and didn't like.
"Can I ask you something?" Jason said, finally breaking the awkward silence that had fell upon us.
"Yeah?" I said as he pulled into the drive way to my house.
After we had gotten our order we decided to just go back to my place.
"We're you going to take those pills?" he asked.
"Yes," I answered honestly.
At first I couldn't remember anything from that night but after a little while it started to slowly come back to me piece by piece.
"Well I'm glad you didn't," he said.
"I'm glad to," I said looking over at Jason.
Jason reached over, placing his hand on mine, giving it a light squeeze.
"Nathan if you throw away another fourteen years of sobriety again I'll kick your fucking ass you hear me," he said causing me to laugh, Jason soon joining me.
"I promise I won't," I said.
"Good now let's go eat," he said letting go of my hand, opening the door as he exited the car.
Smiling I shook my head as I exited the car, closing the door behind me.
"Looks like you got a new neighbor," Jason said as he pointed across the road.
"Looks like it," I said, noticing the big moving truck that sat infront of the big two story house.
A few short seconds later a woman walked out of the house.
My breath caught in my throat when I was able to get a good look at her.
She was almost a carbon copy of Lizzy, she just looked older.
"You ok?" Jason asked.
"Y-Yeah I'm fine, let's go," I said.
Quickly I turned my back towards the house across the street.
"You know her or something?" Jason asked once we were in the house.
"No."
"Then why the hell did you just run into the house like your ass was on fire?"
"Because she looks like Lizzy, did you not notice that," I said.
"Nathan are you sur-"
"Jason I'm sure, she looked like a older version of my sister," I said interrupting him.
"I'm sure it's n-" Jason was once again interrupted but this time it wasn't by me, it was by whoever was knocking on my door.
I walked over to my door, opening it to reveal the girl from across the street.
"Hello, my name is Katie, I just moved into the neighborhood and just wanted to say hi," she said with a big smile on her face.
"Holy shit!" I heard Jason say from behind me.
Well now I know he believes me, I thought to myself.
"Hello Katie, I'm Nathaniel, it's nice to meet you and welcome to the neighborhood," I said, causing her smile to widen, if that was even possible.
"Nice to meet you too Nathaniel," she said as she looked across the street.
"Oh I have to go, the light company is finally here, I'm sorry to cut this short, I hope to see you around," she said leaving.
Closing the door, I turned around to see Jason standing there, looking very pale.
"Believe me now?" I asked as he just shook his head.
I stood there as the same sentence kept running through my head.
Could she be Lizzy.
