Suzumura's PoV

Today was another day of work. I woke up early and left my sleeping wife a good breakfast to wake up to.

I got myself ready then drove to my agency. I parked my car inside the basement of the agency then entered the building.

"Good morning, Suzumura-san." The staff greeted me.

"Good morning." I greeted back then headed to meet with the director.

(L/N)'s PoV

I woke up to see the sun already shining very brightly. Kenichi was already out as usual.

I lazily got out of bed and walked to the kitchen. I saw a breakfast already prepared for me. I saw a note next to it.

Happy birthday, (F/N).

Thank you for staying with me all these years.
I promise to continue making you happy as long as we're together.
I promise to make each birthday better than your last.

I'll come home early today, just for you.

Kenichi

I smiled.

"Typical Kenichi. Just a man with few words who can make your heart flutter." I said then sat down and started enjoying his homemade breakfast for me.

Suzumura's PoV

"Thank you, sir." I said then stood up and bowed before walking out of his office.

Now off to today's missions. After a short cab ride, I soon arrived at Okamoto-kun's apartment.

"Oh, hey, Suzumura-san! Should we get started?"

45 minutes later...

"Darn, I give up." I said as I sat on a chair.

"Haha, don't give up, Suzumura-san. We're almost done. The last part is easy." Okamoto-kun said.

"But making this is hard." I complained a bit.

"But you're still going to make it for (L/N)-san, right?" He replied in a cheerful and convincing tone.

"Yes, of course." I said as I stood up and continued working with all the motivation I had left.

"You sure I'm not wasting my time on this?" I asked.

"Of course not. All girls love strawberry shortcakes. I give Nazuka-san and Morohoshi-san shortcakes for their birthdays." Okamoto-kun said.

"As in that's what you've always been giving them?" I asked.

"Well, no haha. Sometimes I give them cholocate mousse, but they tell me they prefer strawberry shortcakes." He said as he scratched the back of his neck.

"Haha, but I'm sure both are really good since Nobu-kun made it." I said.

"I don't know haha. I hope (L/N)-san will really like this." He said as he put the small cake inside the fridge.

"Me too." I said as I started packing the supplies we used and placing the used utensils in the sink.

(L/N)'s PoV

As I was waiting for Kenichi to come home, I decided to clean his desk. It's full of his work materials. His scripts, CDs, games, and other stuff are crowding his desk, but it's not messy. It's still arranged somehow.

I stacked up his CDs, filed his scripts, put some mangas back on the shelf, then wiped his carefully wiped him table with a semi-wet cloth.

After doing all that, I noticed a notebook on the floor, so I picked it up and put it back on his desk. But then something fell out of the notebook when I did. I crouched down to take a look at what it was then smiled.

It was a picture of me and him when we were still dating. It's one of the great memories we have.

It all happened at unison. I did my best to be brave and sent him a letter, confessing my feelings all over again. I was there when he was reading it so I felt so embarrassed, but happy that he was thankful for my letter.

Time sure has flown by. That was about seven years ago. I didn't even imagine that I would marry Kenichi. I'm very thankful that he entered my life.

Suzumura's PoV

"I'll be back for it later, Okamoto-kun. Thanks again!" I bid then I headed to Hiroshi's apartment.

Hiroshi's apartment was just near Okamoto-kun's so I just walked one block across the street and arrived.

I entered the building, took a visitor's pass, took the elevator to my designated floor, then knocked on the door of his apartment.

"Hiroshi! Are you home?" I asked.

"Ah- yes! Wait a minute, Kenichi-kun!" He answered.

A few seconds later, he opened the door.

"Hello, come in! Sorry if it's kinda messy! I already prepared what I could beforehand!" He said as he held out the door for me.

"Thanks! We should get started! I still have to pick up the cake and buy flowers!" I said.

"Then there's no time to lose!" He said then started instructing me what to do.

After doing what I had to do at Hiroshi's I thanked him then left to go get the cake at Okamoto-kun's and before heading home, I bought some flowers at the nearby shop where I usually but them.

"Hello, Suzumura-san. What can I get you today?" The lady asked.

"Uh, something purple and beautiful and meaningful!" I said.

"How about these verbenas? They're fresh from this afternoon!" She said.

"I'll take it! How much?" I asked.

"No need. It's your wife's birthday, right? Take it and please greet her for me!" She said.

"Alright! Thank you very much!" I said then hurried home.

(L/N)'s PoV

As I was just reading one of the volumes of Kuroko no Basuke, Kenichi suddenly arrived. I stopped reading and put the book down.

"I know you said you'd be early, but I didn't think you'd be home by seven." I said as I approached him.

"Well, surprise! Haha!" He said as he put down two plastic bags then handed me a bouquet of flowers.

"Thanks! These aren't the usual flowers that you buy. Did they run out of irises today?" I asked as I accepted the flowers.

"Yeah, they aren't. No, I just wanted something different for a change. You love purple, right? I thought I'd buy something in your perspective. I thought that this was what you'd buy if you wanted to give yourself flowers." He said.

"Haha. You know me so well. So, uhm, what did you bring home?" I asked then approached the dining table where he placed the plastic bags that he brought in earlier.

"Ah— it's a surprise! Go to our room first!" He said as he pushed me away.

After being pushed to our room, I continued reading the volume of Kuroko no Basuke from the last page I left a while ago. I couldn't really focus on reading cause I was too excited for what Kenichi is hiding from me.

"You can come out now!" He said.

I excitedly stood up from our bed and walked out. I was so amazed to see the dining table look so lively. It had a beautiful purple tablecloth and a small candle in the middle.

"So you were planning this the entire afternoon?" I asked.

"Actually, I was planning this the entire day." He said.

"Huh? Didn't you have work today?" I asked.

"Yeah, but I asked the director if I could just do that tomorrow instead." He said.

"But isn't tomorrow your day off?" I asked.

"Mhm. It's fine. I wanted to make sure that I'd be here for my wife on her birthday." He replied.

"Oh yeah so you can leave her because he have to go to work early the next morning." I said sarcastically.

"Hehe, sorry.. well, let's eat!" He said as he pulled out my chair for me.

"Really? You and Hiroshi-kun made this gyudon? It tastes amazing!" I exclaimed as I took my last spoon of it.

"Glad you liked it! There's one more thing I made with a friend." He said then stood up and pulled out a box out of the refrigerator.

He placed the box and took off the cover. I stood up so I could see the contents of the box.

"Oh my gosh! Don't tell me you and Okamoto-kun baked this!" I exclaimed as I gawked over the beautifully arranged strawberry shortcake before me.

"Okay. I won't tell you." He said with a smile.

"Haha. Very funny." I sat then sat back down as he sliced me a piece.

We happily ate the delicious treat.

After dinner, we decided to have coffee at our small balcony.

"Ah, I've never felt this relaxed since I became an adult." I said which made Kenichi laugh.

"You sound older than me." He said jokingly.

"No one would believe that." I said with a small laugh.

We stayed silent for a while and enjoyed the cool breeze of the night.

"Hey, Kenichi. Tell me, what's really the reason for buying these flowers?" I asked as I stroked the soft petals of the verbenas.

"Hm.. well, I don't know if you've heard, but verbena flowers are used to represent healing, creativity, and happiness." He said as he took a seat next to me.

"So, which representation is the one used for giving these flowers to me?" I asked.

"All of the representations... You healed me when I was hurt, you're always creative when I'm feeling plain, and most especially, you're always bringing me happiness... whatever I feel or do, whenever you're there, wherever I go. You're always there to make my happy." He said.

"So, you're saying?" I asked in a teasing tone.

He laughed then put an arm around me.

"I'm saying you're the root of my happiness. There's no one else for me, but you, (F/N)." He said in a loving tone.

"Thank you, Kenichi. You're my happiness too." I said with a smile.

"Oh, you got something on your lips." He said as he pointed at it.

"Really? What is it-mm-"

He then quickly pecked my lips.

"Mine. Haha." He said.

"Kenichi, you jerk." I said as I jokingly hit his chest then snuggled up to him.

I then continued to stare at the stars while he gave me a kiss on the forehead. I was happy like that. Enjoying simple things like my birthday. Just with him. My happiness, Suzumura Kenichi.
