Why is the World Against Sam Winchester?
Sam couldn't feel anything, not his hands, his legs, or even his back. All he could feel was a burning blackness that swamped his mind. He tried to move, clench his hands, anything that could help him, but couldn't do anything.
He could hear though. Sounds he didn't recognize, loud and ear piercing filled most of the background. Another sound, more familiar than the others, was close by. The voice was crying and begging over and over, the voice becoming almost screams.
"Sammy!"
~3 hours earlier~
Sam sat on the porch, sipping on a cup of coffee silently as he looked over the yard. Gabriel had left for work already, and that left him alone until he got back. Sam didn't mind though. It gave him time to think, to sort out his thoughts.
He wasn't sure how he was going to live with the facts of what he had done before he lost his memory, especially when he was no longer alone with alcohol, but the thought of having a living person around to help him along the way, well, that gave him a comfort he never thought he could have. He felt like he could finally face his deeds instead of drinking them away.
Sam stood, taking his cup back into the kitchen. He would tell Gabriel as much as he could tonight, to finally get everything he had done off his chest. It was when he heard the doorbell ring that he turned, his eyebrows furrowing with his curiosity.
Slowly, he moved towards the door, grabbing the door knob before looking through the peephole. He relaxed as he saw it was Madison. He opened the door, putting on the nicest smile as he met the gaze of the woman.
"Hello, Madison. What brings you here?" Sam asked, leaning against the door with a friendly manner. Madison looked him over, a little bit of surprise crossing her features.
"Hey, Sam. You seem....different." Madison commented, running her hand through her hair curiously. Sam shrugged, just now remembering that Madison hadn't visited since he had got his memory back.
"Well, I have my memory back if that's what you're hinting at." Sam said with a shrug, making Madison blink in surprise before grinning.
"You have it back? That's great, Sam!" She congradulated, though it didn't do anything but make Sam wrinkle his nose. It wasn't that great to remember. "Anyways, I was wanting to ask Gabriel if it was okay if I took you to town to help me?"
Sam glanced back at the empty house, half tempted to pretend Gabriel was there and 'say' no so he didn't have to go, but, he wasn't allowed to be childish anymore. He was just helping Madison. What was the worst that could happen?
"He isn't here right now, but I can go with you. I am an adult after all." Sam said with a fake smile before stepping back from the door. "Just let me grab my jacket and we'll go."
Sam headed into the living room after he got an agreement from Madison, grabbing his green jacket before grabbing one of Gabriel's notes, scribbling a message down for the nurse in case he didn't get back before Gabriel. Finishing the note, he left it on the table where he was sure the nurse would see it before walking back to the door, pulling on the jacket before shutting the door.
"Ready." Sam said, smiling at Madison gently. The girl nodded and Sam followed her to the car, where he slid in the passenger seat, shifting his legs so they laid more comfortable. With a turn of the engine, Madison put the vehicle in reverse and backed out, going into drive a moment later before heading towards town.
"Are you glad you remember?" Madison asked as she drove, keeping her eyes carefully trained on the road. Sam was glad she did. He didn't want to be in another wreck.
"Honestly? No, if anything. I think I would prefer not remembering at all." Sam mumbled, looking out the window at the passing trees and land. The town they lived in was more farmland and less closely built buildings. Sam prefered space anyways considering his size.
He shifted his legs again as Madison looked over at him, trying to get rid of the uncomfortableness he felt. She didn't reply, but instead turned her head back to the road, switching on the radio so soft music drifted through the speakers. Sam wasn't even sure what kind of song it was.
A awkward silence remained between them as she drove, which Sam couldn't say he hated. He liked the silence, well, unless he was with Gabriel. Silence and Gabriel together was definitely not a good mix.
Sam noticed before Madison did that a wolf had darted across the road as they passed. Sam, in instinct, lunged over and jerked the wheel, making them swerve around the gray animal until they righted just in time to dodge an oncoming car.
"Jesus Christ! Sam, you almost gave me a heart attack!" Madison exclaimed, clutching the steering wheel until her knuckles turned white from her stiff grip. Sam pressed his palm on his chest, trying to calm down his racing heart.
"I almost gave myself one too." Sam replied, leaning his head back against the seat and letting out a breath, his surprise lacing his voice. Madion let out a huff as well, both of them slowly getting over the shock before they both finally relaxed.
"WEll, I bet that wolf is happy that you did that." Madison said cheekily, looking over at him with a smile.
That was the last thing Sam had seen before a loud crash pierced his ears, followed by instant blackness.

Gabriel's POV
Gabriel sat in the cafeteria, relishing in the small break that he had recieved today. Most the time, he was so busy he could never take a break and often worked at least an hour overtime because he couldn't stop until then. Today, however, it seemed strangely slow, not that Gabriel was complaining.
But his moment of relaxation soon came to an end as his paiger went off, showing an emergency that would be arriving at the hospital in only a few minutes. Scrambling, he was up and running from the cafeteria and into the Emergency Room where he slipped on the emergency response unit coveralls and slipped just outside the door to wait for the upcoming chaos. It was there that he saw one of his superiors and slid over.
"What's happening?" Gabriel asked, wringing his hands nervously as he saw two more nurses come out the doors, in the same uniform as he was. The superior, a surgeon, looked over at him with grim eyes.
"A nasty car wreck. There's six in the car wreck all together.." The surgeon explained, pulling her hair back into a taut ponytail. "Two men, three women, and a teenager. I believe one of the women that was proclaimed dead on scene. Both men and one woman are in critical condition and the other two only had mild wounds."
Gabriel nodded, sliding into his professional mindset. He was prepared for anything that he would see when the ambulance rolled up.
Well, almost everything.
The ambulance pulled into the emergency room lane and the doors flung open, paramedics quickly pulling out the first gurney as another ambulance pulled in behind them. The first gurney held a man in his mid-forties, his hair balding on top. His wounds were quite servere, especially since he had been impaled by a metal shard that looked as long as Gabriel's arm. Despite that, he was breathing, which gave Gabriel a little hope.
The next ambulance pulled as close to the door they could without getting in the way of the third ambulance, who was moving right beside them. As they opened the door, a middle aged woman and a black-haired teenager got out, both their faces laced with shock and tears staining their cheeks. The minute they were out, two more paramedics pulled out the second gurney, the person in it making Gabriel freeze.
"Madison!" Gabriel exclaimed in shock, staring in horror at the glass that stuck in the woman's face, staining her brown hair with blood. Her arm was bent at an awkward angle, sticking outwards instead of straight, and blood was pooling around her neck in a sluggish fashion. Gabriel was shocked but quickly pulled himself out of it as he went forwards to grab her gurney, only to freeze once again as he saw who was in the third and final gurney.
Sam laid on the soft white stretcher, his eyes wide open as if he was awake, but his pupils were almost nonexistant from how small they were. His entire body was rigid and nonmoving, except for the barely noticeable rise and fall of his chest. Gabriel was at his side in an instant, grabbing his hand as he began pushing him into the hospital.
"Sammy!" Gabriel screamed his name over and over again, trying to find some warmth, some recognition in Sam's eyes, to feel the gentle squeeze of Sam's but there was none. Gabriel felt tears slide down his cheeks and neck as he continued to scream, barely able to tell where he was going. It wasn't until one of the nurse's pulled him back that he screamed Sam's name again, feeling the touch of Sam's cool skin leave his hand.
"I have to save him! Please! He can't die!" Gabriel screamed as the nurse drug him away from the working area so he wouldn't get in anyone's way. Hecould tell by the look on her face that she was heartbroken by his crying and begging, but it didn't mean anything to him. Only Sam safe in his arms could stop this pain.
"Gabriel please! Let us take care of this alright?! We'll do the best we can to make sure he remains alive. Just, trust me on this." The nurse urged, sitting Gabriel down in the waiting room. The nurse wanted to argue, but he just nodded, burying his face in his shaky hands as he waited for the worst thing to come to pass.
The thought of losing Sam left Gabriel gasping for breath as he let out a scream, begging for him to be alright as he curled his arms around his legs, crying and rocking back and forth. He squeezed his eyes shut, and continued crying, waiting for it all to just be over.
Hours passed. Hours of agonizing waiting before the nurse finally came back, her clothes stained with blood. Her face was grim and tired, which only served to make Gabriel's heart sink even further.
"The one you were worried about, Sam Winchester? He's going to stay with us for tonight incase of any complications, but otherwise we think he'll make a full recovery." The nurse said, her voice showing her relief that the man would be okay, but there still remained the sadness that chilled Gabriel to the bones.
"What about the rest of the patients?" Gabriel asked, watching as the relief fell from her face, pressing her lips into a thin line. She sighed, rubbing her hand over her forehead before looking up, facing the inevitable.
"The teenager and the older woman will both be fine. Nothing but a few scratches and bruises. The other man is in recovery from the pole being removed, but we expect him to pull through. The brown-headed woman, however, didn't make it through the wounds and blood loss. We found she had massive internal bleeding, but we were just a little too late." The nurse offered, her eyes dark and grainy from both the lack of sleep and mood. Gabriel nodded, his heart twisting as he heard that Madison was dead.
He probably would have cried if he wasn't so exhausted from the hours of nonstop tears before so, so he just sat with a saddened face before leaning his head down, rubbing fiercely at his eyes. "Can I go see Sam now?" He asked when he finally raised his head. He could tell the woman was going to say no, but stopped at his hopeful face and let out a sigh instead.
"Yes, I guess you can. His room number is 155. I'm sure you know the way there?" She asked, giving him a half-hearted smile before it dropped and she returned to her duties. Gabriel managed to wait until she left before he was on his feet, darting up the stairs to the emergency recovery floor where he knew the number was.
He used his extensive memory of the place to find the room number - he probably wouldn't have found it anyways - and slid into the room, closing the door behind him silently. A lump rose in his throat as he crept over to the bed that held Sam, slipping into the chair sitting beside the bed.
Sam no longer was rigid, his body relaxed and his eyes closed, as if he was just sleeping. The heart monitor beeped in the background noise, reassuring Gabriel that everything was fine. The nurse let out a cracked noise of relief, sliding his hand over and resting it on Sam's before leaning over and kissing the uninjured part of his forehead.
He felt the man shift in under him, meeting the confused, chocolate-brown gaze of Sam. His next words destroyed Gabriel's heart like he hadn't thought possible.
"Who are you?"
