Castiel is weird...
Sam's POV
The week with Gabriel had gone by in a blur. So much information had been presented to him at once, he often had to leave to his bedroom, sorting out everything he learned into sections in his brain. Despite this, he was quickly catching on to the ways of life around Gabriel, even his candy addiction.
It was the day that Castiel was supposed to come over that he felt was the most challenging. First, it had been snowing, the first time he's ever seen it. Gabriel had to sit him down and explain it. Turns out he had a lot more patience than anybody gave him credit for.
Then he had to go shower, and discovered what happens if you stay in there too long. Currently, he was curling up in the corner of the shower, his body shivering as the cold water splashed onto the ground in a steady spray. He let out a whimper before calling Gabriel's name, his arms crossed over his chest to preserve his warmth.
After a few moments later, he heard the door open and looked out of the shower, seeing Gabriel standing there with a concerned look on his face. "What's wrong, Sammich?" He asked, tipping his head as he moved over to the shower, though he stayed out of the line of the splashes.
Sam felt pricks in his skin and looked down, his eyes widening at the little bumps crawling over his skin. He looked at Gabriel with a bit of panic, another shiver traveling through his body. "The water turned cold and I'm not done with my shower." Sam said, pouting a bit in frustration and confusion. Gabriel only smiled softly and stuck his hand under the spray before pulling back a second later and shivering as well.
"Well, just step under the water then we'll get you warmed up, okay?" Gabriel encouraged, motioning to the water. Sam looked at him like he was crazy for a moment before he slowly moved his way under the water and shivering. Sam hurried, the ice cold water making his skin feel stiff, before he finally got out, where Gabriel had instantly wrapped a towel around his waist.
Sam pouted at Gabriel as he continued to shiver, watching as the shorter male grabbed another towel and dried Sam's hair then shoulders. He then wrapped the towel around him and led him to his bedroom, where he grabbed some fresh clothes.
"Put these on, then come down to the kitchen. I'll make something warm for you, okay?" Gabriel asked, smiling gently and brushing Sam's hair out of his face before walking out of the room. Sam watched him leave, wondering what he would be making. Driven by his curiosity and need to be warm, he got dressed quickly, finding the clothes to be warmer than he originally thought.
He heard a beep go off downstairs. What was that? He wondered as he slipped from the bedroom and down the hallway; he really wanted to know. The beep went off again, but this time closer. It was coming from the kitchen.
His eyes narrowed and his muscles tense. He vaguely wondered if something was trying to get in the house, but he was distracted when he saw a shadow by the doorway. He backed against the wall, though he remained ready. So when the figure walked out of the kitchen, he grabbed them and tossed them into the wall, planting his arm across his chest and neck. The figure let out a gasp, who he instantly recognized as Gabriel.
"Samsquatch! What are you doing?!" Gabriel gasped out, his heart beating clear against Sam's arm. He frowned, the images of a male...no, of himself, pinning a man to the wall, much like he had done to Gabriel. The only difference was that he drove a knife through the man's throat. Sam stepped back from Gabriel, his eyes wide as saw nothing but the blood pouring from the man's throat, pooling on the ground. It was terrifying.
"Sam!" He heard Gabriel yell and snapped out of it, slowly looking down at the nurse that had his shoulders and was shaking him. He began shivering as the realization finally sunk in. He had killed someone.
Sam let out a soft sob, wrapping his arms around Gabriel as he began crying. His hands felt sticky, as if blood had gotten on them and it only made him more upset, the sobs getting louder. Gabriel hugged him back on instinct, though he could feel the tenseness in the shorter male's muscles.
"What's wrong, kiddo?" Gabriel asked. Sam could hear the worry in his voice and it only made him cry harder. What if had done that to Gabriel? So he hugged him as if it were the last time he would ever see him.
"I remember a man." Sam cried, clutching onto Gabriel tighter. The more he learned about his past, the less he wanted to. "I... I killed him. I stabbed him in the throat." He whimpered as he felt Gabriel flinch under his words.
"It's okay, Sam. You didn't kill anyone." Gabriel said, pulling out of the hug enough to where he could see Sam's face. Sam could see the kindness in Gabriel's eyes and felt his vision blur from fresh tears. "You are not responsible for anything you did in the past, okay? Right now, you are a completely different person, so don't worry about it." Gabriel kissed his forehead before taking his head and leading the crying boy into the kitchen.
"Here, I made hot chocolate and I have bacon and toast on right now." Gabriel said, grabbing the mug of a steaming brown drink. Sam sniffed and took it, taking a tentative sip and his eyes widened, the tears forgotten as he tasted such a delicious sweetness on his tongue.
""This is...hot chocolate?" He asked, looking at Gabriel in wonder. Gabriel only chuckled and nodded in response, turning his head when he saw the toast pop up from a machine. Sam tipped his head, furrowing his eyebrows.
"What is that?" Sam asked, his eyes narrowing. Gabriel only glanced at the machine before he was distracted by the bacon sizzling. He turned away, flipping the bacon.
"It's a toaster." Gabriel said, sliding the strips of meat onto two different plates, adding the toast from the...toaster onto the plate as well. He grabbed the two plates into his hand and placed them on the small four chair table before motioning for Sam to sit down.
"What is a toaster?" Sam asked, sitting down and prodding at the toast. It looked like bread, except it was hard. He took an experimental bite, finding it to be less sweet than bread, but much more enjoyable to eat. Gabriel looked at him with amusment on his face, leaning over and wiping the crumbs from Sam's face.
"A toaster is a machine that you put things like bread in and it makes them crunchy, as you can see." He said, motioning to the food. Sam nodded, smiling brightly. He liked this...toaster.
The rest of the breakfast was spent in mild silence, with only a few words exchanged between them. Afterwards, Gabriel cleaned up the kitchen, with a little help from Sam, and had just put up the last dish when the doorbell rang. Sam and Gabriel exchanged glances and a smile crept across Gabriel's. Castiel was here.
Sam followed after Gabriel as he went to answer the door, unable to stop from smiling at the bouncy happy mood that Gabriel seemed to be in. Sam paused halfway down the hallway though, instantly feeling nervous. What if Castiel didn't like him? Gabriel must have noticed that Sam was nervous, because he walked back over and took his hand, smiling reassuringly.
"Don't worry. Castiel will like you." Gabriel said gently, leading him to the door and opening it. They were greeted with the presence of Gabriel's younger brother, his black hair messy and blue eyes glowing. Sam felt curious about him. He looked so different from Gabriel, but at the moment, he was still a bit nervous.
"Hey, Cassie!" Gabriel chirped happily, wrapping his brother into a hug. Castiel hugged him back, though his gaze seemed to be more focused on Sam. However, he didn't say anything as Gabriel led him and Sam into the living room, grinning.
"Okay, Cassie, this is Sam, and Sam, this is Castiel." Gabriel said, motioning to each other. Castiel looked at him with interest, his eyes narrowing slightly. Sam fidgeted under his gaze, though he offered him a shy smile.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sam." Castiel said formerly before looking at Gabriel. "You didn't mention that you didn't live alone the last time we talked." Sam tipped his head, furrowing his eyebrows. Why did the black-haired male talk so weird?
Gabriel rubbed the back of his neck, chuckling a little. "Well, yes. Sam here started living with me after he got out of the hospital. That was after you last called." Gabriel explained, though it only seemed to raise more questions for Castiel, as he furrowed his eyebrows a bit.
"Why was he in the hospital? Why does he live with you now?" Castiel asked, glancing over at Sam. Sam listened intently, though he was momentarily distracted by the silver ring around Castiel's left ring finger. It stuck out compared to the rest of his clothing, except of course the glowing blue tube that was strung around his neck. He had half a mind to ask, but he decided to wait until they were done first.
"Poor Sam here got his head smashed when he got into a car accident and forgot everything prior to the age of four. So, I offered to take care of him until he's learned enough to be on his own, or until he gets his memory back." Gabriel said with a shrug, looking fondly at Sam. Sam only thought of the look as happiness, though from Castiel's expression, that wasn't the only thing in his gaze.
"Has he remembered anything so far?" Castiel asked, the stiffness in his voice still making Sam curious. Was he like that with everyone? He had no idea, but from what he's seen, it was just Castiel's way.
"Bits and peices." Gabriel said, sneaking a glance at Sam. The taller male looked away, shifting on his feet. He didn't want to remember the memory from earlier this morning, but it came anyways. They conversed a little bit more about his problem before the subject was changed.
"How's Deano? It's a pity he couldn't come visit with you." Gabriel said, grinning as a small blush crossed Castiel's face. Sam tipped his head. Why did he do that? It was the first sign of emotion he's ever seen him have other confusion and interest.
"Apparently his father called him over. I told him it was a bad idea, but he didn't listen. So now his younger brother is missing and his dad is going crazy looking for him. It's quite a pity too. Dean was hoping that his brother would come to our wedding. It seems like they get along only when their father or work isn't involved." Castiel frowned as he spoke, but Sam was hanging onto every word. He wanted to know as much as he could about his new family. So far, he had a feeling that he wouldn't like Dean's father very much if they ever met.
"Well, that's terribly disappointing. I hope he finds his brother soon." Gabriel said, sitting. Castiel sat down as well, in the chair on one side of the couch. Sam, on instinct, sat beside Gabriel. And so, they conversed...well, Gabriel and Castiel did. Sam only listened, offering answers to questions directed towards him.
It reached around midafternoon when Castiel said he had to leave. Gabriel hugged him in goodbye, while Sam smiled softly and hugged him as well, though it felt strange. Castiel didn't seem to mind though, as he hugged him back. Sam pulled away and sat back down, watching as Gabriel led Castiel down the hallway to the front door. Sam was sort of sad to see the blue-eyed male go. He was quite interesting despite his weird way of talking.
When Gabriel came back, he sat back down and Sam laid down, resting his head on his lap. He was exhausted. Gabriel smiled and ran a hand through his hair in a gentle and relaxing rhythm, easing Sam into a happy slumber.
