Chapter 7: The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter
Storybrooke. Present. Granny's Diner.
Inside the bustling diner, Graham throws a dart, causing it to land directly on the target board.
Sidney nods approvingly and he compliments the Sheriff," Nice shot, chief. I betcha 20 bucks you can't do it again."
Sheriff Graham turns to Ruby, directing towards Sidney as he says," Next round's on him."
Ruby nods before stepping towards both Zatanna and Emma seated at a booth.
" What can I get you?" Ruby asks the two.
Zatanna answers," Sparkling water."
But Emma on the other hand answers with," the Nothing."
Right at that moment, Graham throws a dart, narrowingly missing Emma.
" What the hell? You could have hit me." Emma shouts at Graham to which he replies," I never miss. You've been avoiding me... since last night when you saw me..."
" Leaving Regina's house through a window at night? Yeah. Don't tell me no one's gonna get the wrong idea." Zatanna remarks.
Emma then says," I'm not avoiding you, Graham. I just have no interest in having this conversation. It's your life, and I really don't care."
" If you don't care, then why are you so upset?" Graham asks.
" I'm not upset!" Emma shouts defensively.
Sheriff Graham says," If that were true, you'd be at the bar with me having a drink and not running away. Can we please talk about this? I need you to understand."
" Why?"
Sheriff Graham stutters out," I don't know. Uh, maybe so I can understand."
Zatanna then says," If you need help. Go find Archie. Just don't bug my sister."
Sheriff Graham states to Zatanna," No. I wanna talk to her."
Emma shrugs," Well, your bad judgment is your problem, not mine."
Graham expresses out," You don't know what it's like with her. I don't feel anything. Can you understand that?"
Zatanna shifts her eyes to the side and she agrees," Yeah. It feels hard to know how is it like to date Regina. I mean we would never try that. Why did you?"
" I...don't know." Graham answers," I have been her for as long as I remember."
" And that concerns me why?" Emma asks, getting rather impatient.
Sheriff Graham nods and he expresses out," Look, I know you and Regina have your own issues, and I should've told you about that before you took the job."
Emma nods," Yeah, why the secrecy? We're all adults. You can do whatever you want."
" Cause I-I didn't want you to look at me the way you are now." Graham answers.
Emma asks," Why do you care how I look at you?"
" Because..." Before Graham could say anything, suddenly, his vision is filled with a Blurred impressions of a forest.
What caught Graham's eyes is the sight of a wolf with eyes of different colors - one red, the other one blue, appearing briefly before disappearing.
" What?" The sound of Emma's voice snaps him awake as Graham grabs Emma by her cheeks, planting his lips into hers.
" Damn." Zatanna expresses out as she watches while drinking her beverage.
Shocked, Emma pushes Graham away before demanding out," What the hell was that?"
Sheriff Graham looks around, asking," Did you see that?"
Emma stares at him, confused and offended,
" How much have you been drinking? That was way over the line."
" I'm sorry. I just...?" Graham apologises purposely
" What? You what?" Emma questions him angrily.
Rubbing the back of his head, Graham answers," I need to feel something."
Emma pushes him, saying to him," Listen to me, Graham. You are drunk and full of regret. I get it. But whatever it is you are looking to feel, I can tell you one thing. You're not getting it with me."
" Ouch!" Zatanna remarks out as she looks at her cup, turning to Granny before requesting her," Hey Granny, can I have more?"
Storybrooke. Present. Mills House
Sheriff Graham stood in front of the Mills House. Sheriff Graham knocks on the door.
Regina answers the door, surprised by his presence," Graham."
Sheriff Graham asks her," Is Henry asleep?"
" Yes. Why?" Regina asks.
Without answering, Sheriff Graham enters and kisses her passionately.
The Enchanted Forest. Past. Evil Queen's palace.
Snow White places a white rose on her father's coffin. Regina watches her as Snow bids her recently deceased father farewell," Goodbye, father."
Regina approaches her, touching Snow's shoulder as she apologises to her," I'm so sorry, Snow."
" I loved him so much." Snow sobs out.
Regina wraps an arm around Snow as she agrees," So did I do. So did I. The loss I feel for my husband must be nothing compared to the loss you feel for your father."
As Snow bursts into tears, Regina assured her in a comforting manner," If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I may only be your mother through marriage, but I'm here for you dear. Truly and forever."
The Enchanted Forest. Past. Dark Palace. The Evil Queen's chamber.
Inside the Queen's chamber, Regina stood back, proud of her handiwork as the
Magic Mirror congratulates her," Congratulations. Your revenge is almost complete."
" One down. One to go." Regina nods.
The Magic Mirror inquires," She has no idea, does she?"
" That I'm responsible for his passing?" Regina responds almost in disgust," She sought comfort with me. Sickening. I could have ended her miserable existence right there. Believe me, it was tempting."
The Magic Mirror agrees," It would have sated your soul."
However, Evil Queen is aware of the problem she has," The kingdom is still loyal to her. And that magician is a friend of her father. They would turn on me. They don't know the wretchedness inside of her as I do. They don't know what she did to me. We must be delicate in this next phase. Her demise must be handled with care."
" Perhaps one of your knights, your Majesty." The Magic Mirror suggests
The Evil Queen shakes her head," No. I need someone adapted for murder. Bereft of mercy."
" Someone with no heart." The Magic Mirror acknowledges.
" Now you understand." The Evil Queen nods as the Magic Mirror suggests," Well, in that case, you need a huntsman."
Elsewhere
Somewhere in a forest. The Huntsman knelt over a stag he had recently killed, sobbing out as he says to the dead animal," You have died so that I may live. Forgive me. Your sacrifice is honorable. Thank you."
A wolf approaches him before he looks up, saying to it,
" Don't worry boy, you won't go hungry tonight."
Storybrooke. Present. Mills House.
Sheriff Graham wakes up suddenly, his body completely soaked with sweat.
Regina gets up, asking him," What is it?"
Sheriff Graham answers," I had a most intense dream. I was in the woods hunting and I killed a deer. There was a wolf."
" A wolf?"" Its eyes. One was blood-red and the other one was black as night. The funny thing is, I think I've seen the wolf before." Graham points out.
Regina tried to dissuade him from his dream,
" Come back to sleep, Graham. It was only a dream."
However, Graham thinks otherwise," It didn't feel like a dream. It felt like a memory."
" Graham?" Regina looks up, watching as Graham got out of bed, standing up before putting on his clothes.
Sheriff Graham says to her," I need some air. I need to think."
Regina tries to persuade him," Graham, please. Come back to bed."
" I left my car in the alley, anyway. I need to go and get it. Clear my head."
As he is busy putting his boots back on, Regina says to him," Graham. Listen. It's late. You're tired, probably still drunk. Don't leave."
Sheriff Graham looks at her," Since when do you want me to stay anyway?"
" You're not well." Regina says only for Graham to answer out defensively," I'm fine."
He gets up and exits Regina's bedroom.
As he is leaving the mansion, suddenly, he drops his car keys.
As he reaches for them, a wolf approaches him. Sheriff Graham backs away a little. The wolf looks at him and then trudges away.
Storybrooke. Present. The Blanchard loft.
Back at the Blanchard loft, Emma walks down the stairs, greeting Zatanna before noticing flowers on the kitchen table.
" Really?" Assuming that they were meant for her, Emma roughly grabs them before throwing them into a garbage bin.
Right at that moment, Mary Margaret quickly shouts at her," Oh. Hey. Wait, what are you doing?"
Emma states," If Graham thinks flowers will work on me..."
Mary Margaret shakes her head," No, those were mine."
Realising her mistake, Emma apologises to her,
" Oh sorry. So...were these from David?"
" No. Dr. Whale." Mary answers.
Shocked, Zatanna questions her," What?! Why Dr. Whale? I..."
Mary Margaret looks back at Zatanna as she asks," Wait, you're not kidding aren't you?"
Mary Margaret nods," I know, it's a disaster."
Emma however, disagrees," No. That's amazing. You're getting over David."
Zatanna gives her a soft smack on the shoulder, causing Emma to wince in pain," Ow. Sorry."
Mary Margaret says," First of all, there's nothing to get over. And second of all: just one-night-stand."
" Not according to those flowers that my sister threw into the trash." Zatanna points out.
Mary nods," Yeah, maybe I shouldn't have called him."
Emma widens her eyes," Oh my God. You called him? That's definitely not a one-night stand."
Mary Margaret stutters our awkwardly,
" O-Okay, I'm still learning. I- I never had one before. I felt guilty."
" Why? There's nothing wrong with what you did. Trust me. One nighters is as far as I ever go." Emma says.
" That's because you're..."
" Because I'm what?"
" A shut out." Zatanna frankly finishes Mary's sentence, only to be received a look from Emma.
Mary Margaret nods," What she said is true though."
" Yeah. Tell me. What do I do?" Emma challenges.
Mary Margaret answers," You're just protecting yourself. With that wall you put up."
" Just because I don't get emotional with a man."
" You don't get emotional with a man?" Mary questions her in disbelief," The floral abuse tells a different story."
Emma asks," What story is that?"
Mary Margaret answers," The one that's obvious to everyone - except apparently you. That you have feelings for Graham."
" Come on." Emma pouts, prompting Mary Margaret to point out," There's a wall."
" That's not a wall." Emma protests
Mary Margaret picks the flowers out of the garbage bin.
As she puts them into a vase, Mary Margaret questions out," Really?"
" There's nothing wrong with being cautious."
" Oh, true. True." Mary nods," But, Emma. That wall of yours, it may keep out pain. But it also may keep out love."
As she walks away, Zatanna says to Emma,
" She's right though. If you're not gonna go after him, who knows? You might end up single forever."
" Maybe I just might." Emma pouts, prompting Zatanna to shake her head.
Emma notices it and she retorts," Then what about you Zatanna? Why don't you have a boyfriend?"
" Dunno. No chance or time of finding one." Zatanna shrugs.
Woods
In the woods. Sheriff Graham follows the wolf he noticed earlier.
A distant howl of a wolf sounds from the distance followed by the sound of a shovel digging.
As Graham turns towards the direction of the noise, he found Mr. Gold.
Mr. Gold looks up and he greets him," Good morning, Sheriff. Sorry if I startled you."
Sheriff Graham nods," Right. Sorry, I, I thought you were a wolf."
Mr. Gold stares at him," Did I forget to shave?"
Sheriff Graham asks him," What are you doing out here so early?"
" A sport of gardening. Yourself?"
Sheriff Graham answers," I was looking for..."
" A wolf." Mr. Gold nods," Yeah, I think I've been able to catch on. You know, to the best of my knowledge there are no wolves in Storybrooke. Not the literal kind anyway. Why are you looking?"
" You'll think I'm crazy."
" Try me."
Sheriff Graham explains," I saw one in my dreams and then I saw one for real. Just a few hours ago. Did you...Did you see anything unusual right there?"
Mr. Gold stares closely at his shovel before answering," I'm afraid not. I do wish I could be more helpful."
As he walks past Sheriff Graham, he spoke up,
" You know, Sheriff, they say that dreams,"
He pauses and turns around to face him, finishing his sentence," ...dreams are memories...memories of another life."
Sheriff Graham questions him," W...What do you believe?"
Mr. Gold answers," I never rule out anything. Good luck, Sheriff. I do hope you'll find what you're looking for."
The Enchanted Forest. Past.
The Huntsman and the wolf who accompanies him are briefly seen walking in the woods.
Soon, the pair came up to a tavern.
The Huntsman and his wolf enter the building, stepping towards the booth.
A drink is placed in front of the Huntsman.
As he drinks, The Huntsman throws a chunk of meat down to the wolf, feeding it.
One man notices it and he questioned out," They are letting animals in here now?"" This isn't a slaughterhouse."" Forget it. He might as well be one, too. I heard he was raised by 'em." " He does smell like 'em."" Pathetic. I've heard he cries over his kills. You believe that?"
One of the men approaches the Huntsman, questioning him," Tell me, Huntsman. What kind of a man cries over an animal?"
The Huntsman answers," An honorable one."
" What do you know about honor?" The man questioned out.
The Huntsman answers," I have it. They have it. You don't."
" Animals have it?"
The Huntsman explains," They are pure of heart. Not selfish and self-serving like people."
The wolf stands up and snarls at the man, prompting him to growl at the Huntsman," Tell him to stop threatening me. Because you know, what I do to pets that threaten me? I hang them on my wall."
He draws a knife, preparing to strike.
The Huntsman rises from his table and he quickly plunged the blade deep into the man's shoulder.
As the man falls onto the ground, the The Huntsman spoke," He is not a pet."
Another man sprung up to attack the Huntsman, only for the Huntsman to defeat him by throwing him against a mirror.
The impact of the blow causes the mirror's glass breaks, shattering into fragments of glass.
Picking up a shard, the Huntsman turns to face another enemy.
The frightened man turns and leaves.
The Huntsman puts the shade down on the table, briefly reflecting in it, unaware that someone is watching him from afar.
Dark Palace.
The Evil Queen watches the scene in the tavern through a mirror, smiling as she orders her guards,
" He's perfect. Bring him to me."
A guard nods and leaves.
Storybrooke. Present.
In the woods. Sheriff Graham dashes across, still trying to track down the wolf.
Distant howling of a wolf echoes across the woods before Sheriff Graham catches a glimpse of the wolf's fur.
The wolf stands still for a moment and Sheriff Graham is able to face him.
Graham stares back at it, demanding out," What do you want?"
The wolf turns and trudges away, prompting him to shout," HEY!"
He quickly makes a loud whistle, whistling to it, prompting the wolf to turn and approaches him.
Sheriff Graham rests a hand on the wolf's head as the wolf looks at him.
All of a sudden, Graham felt himself staring at several flashes of what looked like a blurred impressions of a forest.
The Huntsman raises a knife as he stares down at Snow White whose eyes widened with fear.
But before he could deliver a final blow, he heard a voice shouting," Stop!"
The Huntsman looks up, seeing a man and a little girl before flashes of the Queen's Vault appears in his mind.
Before he knew it, Sheriff Graham found himself back in the woods.
He looks, noticing that the wolf has disappeared.
Sheriff Graham looks around confused and then heads back to town.
Storybrooke Elementary School.
The loud rings of the School bell signals the end of class.
As the students streams out of the classroom, Sheriff Graham enters Mary Margaret's class, asking her, " Mary Margaret, can I talk to you?"
Mary Margaret looks at him, asking," Graham, what's the matter? Are you okay?"
Sheriff Graham rubs the back of his head as he says to her," I think we...I think we know each other."
Mary Margaret nods," Of course we do."
However, Graham reinterprets," No, no, no. Not from here. Not from Storybrooke."
" From where then?" Mary Margaret asks, prompting Sheriff Graham to answer," Another life."
The Enchanted Forest. Past. Dark Palace.
Inside the Dark Palace, the Huntsman enters the Evil Queen's chambers.
The Evil Queen looks at him and she asks,
" Do you have a name? Or shall I just call you the Huntsman?"
The Huntsman however, remains silent.
The Evil Queen raises from her chair before walking towards him, saying," You're a tortured one, aren't you, Huntsman? Is this because your parents abandoned you to the wolves?"
" Those weren't my parents." The Huntsman shakes his head, " All they did was give birth to me. The wolves are my family."
" Wolves, indeed." The Evil Queen nods," I always felt there were two kinds of people. Wolves and sheep. Those who kill and those who get killed. And you, Huntsman, you are most certainly a wolf."
The Huntsman question out," Why am I here?"
The Evil Queen answers, " I'd like you to kill someone for me. Can you do that?"
The Huntsman rejects her request," I kill for me. Why would I do anything for you?"
" Because I have so much to offer." The Evil Queen explains," A place at my court. You'll become my official huntsman."
The Huntsman looks around the chambers, refusing her offer," I'm not interested in being a pet. This place is a cage."
The Evil Queen continues," You'd be awash in luxury. Wanting for nothing."
The Huntsman asks her," You've got an army at your disposal. What do you need of me?"
The Evil Queen explains," My prey is beloved by all the kingdom. I need someone who won't be blinded by that. Someone without compassion. Someone who'll have no qualms carving a heart out and bringing it back for my collection."
Realization dawns on the Huntsman as he answers," That's me."
The Evil Queen nods," As I suspected. Now, tell me: What will it take? What do you want? There must be something."
The Huntsman began telling his terms of service of the Queen," Outlaw the hunting of wolves. They are to be left alone. They are to be protected."
" Simple enough."
The Huntsman then asks," So, who do you want me to kill?"
Storybrooke. Present. Storybrooke Elementary School.
Back in Mary Margaret's classroom, Graham asks the teacher," Mary Margaret, how long have we known each other?"
Mary Margaret brushes back her hair as she answers," I don't know. A while."
Graham asks further," Do you remember when we met?"
Mary Margaret takes a moment to consider before finding herself answering with a single," No."
" Me neither." Graham points out," I can't remember when I met you or when I met anyone. Isn't that odd?"
Mary Margaret stutters," I don't know. I- I suppose. I think that's just life. Things get hazy."
" And what's more," Graham adds," Zatanna recently came into town and yet I feel like I've met her before."
Remembering the flashes, Graham then asks Mary Margaret," Have I ever hurt you?"
Upon hearing that, Mary Margaret quickly shakes her head, " Oh Graham, no. Of course not. What is going on?"
Sheriff Graham then asks her another question," Do you believe in other lives?"
" Like heaven?"
" I mean like past lives?" Graham reinterprets his question.
" You've been talking to Henry." Mary Margaret points out, prompting Graham to ask," Henry?"
Mary Margaret explained," Oh, he has this book of stories. He has been going on about how he thinks we are all characters from them. From another land. We've forgotten who we really are. Which, of course, makes no sense but Zatanna somehow believes him."
Graham nods vigorously," Right. No, of course. That's crazy."
Mary Margaret touches Graham's forehead before saying to him," Graham, you're burning up. Go home and get some rest. I think you'll feel much better after you've had some sleep."
Sheriff Graham nods," Right, you're absolutely right. I'm sorry I've disturbed you. Thank you."" Of course."
The Enchanted Forest. Past.
In the woods, Snow White and the Huntsman are walking together as Snow White spoke to him," You know, when I was a little girl, the summer palace was my favorite place. The mountains surrounding it felt like a cradle. They always made me feel safe. I look forward to returning to it now."
She then looks at the Huntsman, noticing the large amount of armour on him and she asks," Stuffy in there?"
The Huntsman takes off his helmet. As Snow offers him an apple," Here."
The Huntsman refuses," No."
Snow White then asks him," You're not a knight, are you?"
Shocked at how she knew, the Huntsman asks," What makes you say that?"
Snow White explains," Without fail every one of my father's men has offered me condolences. Except you."
The Huntsman quickly consoles her," Please accept my condolences."
However, Snow White notices how sloppy the armour is plated together and she points out," And they all know how to wear armor. She picked you to take me. Why?"
" Huntsman simply answer with," I think you know."
Realisation dawns on Snow White as she says, " You're going to kill me."
The Huntsman compliments her," You have good instincts."
" And you have too much armour."
She picks up a large branch from the ground and hits the Huntsman with it, dropping him before running off.
As the Huntsman tries to get up, he heard a voice shouting at him," Stop!"
The Huntsman turns around, looking for the source of the sound only to find no one.
Storybrooke. Present. Storybrooke Sheriff Department.
At the Sheriff Department, Emma places a file on Graham's desk and picks up a dart.
She throws it, aiming at the dart board as she listens to Zatanna telling a part of her story," And then I was like "Oh yeah!", and he was like..."
Before Zatanna could finish her story, Regina steps into the office, loudly declaring out," Our taxes always hard at work, I see."
Emma looks up and she spoke," Graham isn't here. I assumed he took a sick day...with you."
Regina remarks," Oh, so you're aware of us? Good - that's why I'm here. Because I'm also aware of your relationship with him."
Emma denies," I don't have a relationship with him."
Regina raises an eyebrow," Oh? So, nothing's ever happened between the two of you?"
Zatanna answers," Well, aside from getting drunk. Graham wasn't doing anything to Emma."
Regina looks at her," Really?" Prompting Zatanna to nod.
Regina then says," Well, of course not. Because she's incapable of feeling anything for anyone."
" Excuse me, you know I'm here right?" Emma states, offended by Regina's remark.
Regina turns to Emma, asking," There's a reason you're alone, isn't there?"
Emma turns to Zatanna, asking her," Can you leave us?"
Zatanna nods and leaves the office as Emma faces Regina, speaking out," All due respect, the way I live my life is my business."
" It is until it infringes on my life." Regina threatens Emma," Stay away from Graham. You may think you're doing nothing, but you're putting thoughts in his head. Thoughts that are not in his best interest. You are leading him on a path to self-destruction. Stay away."
Past. Enchanted Forest
The Huntsman dashes across the forest, searching high and low for any signs of Snow.
As he continues his search, he heard a soft voice saying," You're conflicted."
" Who's there!" The Huntsman demands out, pointing his knife at a tall man classed in a tuxedo.
The man steps towards him, saying," Relax. I am Zatanna, the greatest magician ever. I mean you no harm."
Graham looks at the little girl next to him as Zatanna introduces her to him," And this right here is my daughter, Zatanna."
" Zatanna?" The Huntsman questions out.
Zatara then asks him," Why do you want to kill that girl. You don't look like the type to kill people in cold blood."
The Huntsman spoke to him strongly," What I do is my own business."
" Really?" Zatara raises an eyebrow and he states," You don't seem like you actually want to do it."
" How would you know?" The Huntsman questions the magician in a challenging tone, prompting him to say," Because if you would, you would have done it already. Is something stopping you?"
The Huntsman looks at him as Zatara continues," Whatever you do, I will not interfere but ask yourself, will the Queen really give you what you want? And is it truly how far you would go to have it? The choice is yours."
With a puff of smoke, Zatara and Zatanna disappears, leaving The Huntsman to ponder his words.
Mills House
Graham rings the doorbell at the Mills House, waiting just as Henry answers the door, greeting him," Hey, Sheriff. My mom's not here."
Sheriff Graham however, says to him," Actually, uh, I'm here to see you, Henry. I was hoping you could help me."
" Help you with what?"
Sheriff Graham answers," It's about your book. Am I... in it?"
Past. Enchanted Forest
Back in the forest, Snow White rests on top of a log, writing a letter.
Soon, the Huntsman runs up, catching up to her.
The Huntsman noticing what she is doing and he says," I hunt you, yet you stop to compose a letter? I will never understand your kind."
Snow White explains," I don't know these woods. You're obviously a skilled hunter - you'll find me. No matter what I do, I know how this ends."
The Huntsman nods in agreement," Yes."
" There's one thing I ask that you do after you kill me. Please deliver this to the Queen." Snow White requests as she hands the letter she just written to him.
The Huntsman shakes his head," Your tricks won't work on me."
Snow White however, says to him, seeming to have accepted her fate," It's not a trick. Please, give it to her. Tell her I mean every word."
He takes the letter and begins to read it, still thinking about what Zatara had said.
As he finished reading the letter, he takes out his knife out of his pocket as he draws closer to her, lifting the knife high.
Snow flinches, preparing for the final blow.
However, Graham swings the knife, cutting a piece of stalk off a plant and drills hole along it before handing it to Snow, saying," Sign this when you need help."
Surprised, Snow White asks," What?"
The Huntsman explains," It's a whistle. It will bring you aid. You will be lead to safety. Now go, run."
Snow White asks him, still unable to process what just happened," I don't understand. You're not going to kill me?"
" Run!"
Storybrooke. Present. Mills House.
Sheriff Graham and Henry look over the book in Henry's bedroom as the boy asked," When did your flashes begin?"
Sheriff Graham answers," Right after I kissed Emma."
Henry widens his eyes in surprise," You kissed my mom? What did you see?"
Sheriff Graham answers," A wolf. I saw that I had a knife in my hand and I was with Mary Margaret."
" Were you about to hurt her?" Henry asks, causing Graham to widen his eyes as he nods," Yes! How'd you know that?"
Henry answers," Because Mary Margaret is Snow White. Which makes you the Huntsman."
Graham then probes further," So you really think that I could be another person?"
Henry agrees," Makes totally sense. You were raised by wolves. That's why you keep seeing one. It's your friend, your guide. It's trying to help you."
Graham then adds," Then I saw a girl and a man...that girl...she looked familiar!"
Henry flips through the book and he states," That's because that was Miss Zatanna when she was a girl. She and her father Zatara were magicians who convinced you not to kill Snow White."
Realisation dawns on Graham as he asks Henry," I'm remembering this because I kissed your mother? H-How is that possible?"
Henry explains," Well, you two do have a special connection. She owes you her life."
Graham stares at him, confused," How?"
Henry answers," Snow White's her mother. And you spared her. If you hadn't, my mom wouldn't have been born."
Still confused, Graham probes further," W...what happened after I spared Snow White?"
Henry answers," The Queen took your heart. She ripped it out. It's kind of her thing. She never wanted you to feel ever again."
Graham then asks," Let me see the book.
Henry hands him the book and he turns to a page with the Evil Queen in front of her vault, pointing at the picture and asks him," What's that? I saw that too. The wolf was howling at it."
Henry points out," That's her vault. That's where she put your heart."
Sheriff Graham then asks Henry," Where's Zatanna? I need to speak to her."
Henry answers," She's probably with my mom back at your office. What about the wolf?"
Graham answers," The wolf wants me to find it. Thank you Henry. I must go."
Soon
As Graham steps out of the door, he notices Zatanna standing outside of the Mills house, prompting him to run up to her.
" Zatanna..." Zatanna looks at him and she asks him in concern," Hey Graham are you okay? You look rather...flustered."
Graham goes up to Zatanna and he says to her," Zatanna...I don't know why, but I feel like we have met before?"
" Hold up? Did you see a little girl?" Zatanna asks, prompting Graham to widen his eyes in shock as he asks her," How did you know?"
Zatanna answers," Because that girl was me."
Graham clutches his head in confusion, stuttering to himself," But how? I.." He pauses before saying," I saw a wolf as well. It showed me some kind of vault."
Zatanna widens her eyes," Really? Well we better find it."
" Agreed." Graham nods.
As Zatanna and Graham are making their way, right at that moment, Emma stops them," Hey!"
" Oh. Emma, what brings you here?" Zatanna greets her sister as Emma answers," I'm just here to visit. I heard that Graham is having a rough day."
" Who says?" Graham asks defensively to which Emma answers," Me, her, Mary, Red, pretty much everyone. Maybe you need to go home and get some rest."
Graham shrugs her off," I'm fine."" No, Graham. You're not fine. You just went to see a 10-year-old for help." Emma says only for Graham to retort," He seems to be the only one making sense. And your sister here seems to know what's going on."
Emma looks at both Zatanna and Graham What's going on? What's...really going on?
Zatanna answers," The vault. Graham mentioned a vault that his wolf found."
Emma stares at her in confusion," What? What wolf?"" From my dreams. He gonna help me find my heart." Graham answers.
Emma blinks in confusion as she says," I'm sorry. I...thought we were talking in a metaphor here. You really think that you don't have a heart?"
" It's the only thing that makes any sense. It's the only thing that explains why I don't feel anything." Graham states.
Emma grabs him by the shoulder, saying to him," Listen to me, Graham. You have a heart. I can prove it."
She places her hand on his chest, feeling a beat as she says," See, it's beating. It's real."
Zatanna places a hand on his chest and she shakes her head," I don't feel anything."
Graham shakes his head as he mutters out," I knew it. It's the curse."
Just then Emma notices something behind him, saying to both Graham and Zatanna," Hey guys."
" What?" Graham looks behind him and it was right there when he saw the wolf. His curiousity getting the better of him, Graham dashes off.
Both Zatanna and Emma looks at each other before running after Graham, chasing the wolf together.
Storybrooke Graveyard
After running after the wolf, the trio soon found themselves right inside the graveyard, surprising Zatanna.
" Graham. Graham be careful!" Emma shouts to Graham as he assures her," It's my friend. It won't hurt us."
However, the wolf lets out a loud howl, startling Emma before it runs off, prompting the trio to chase after it.
It was right there when Graham notices something.
Sensing the Sheriff stopping, both Emma and Zatanna looks, staring at the vault as Emma asks him," What is it?"
Graham began stepping towards the voice, saying to Emma in a dire tone," It's my heart. It's in there. I have to look in there."
Realizing what he is going to do, Emma quickly rushes forward, trying to stop him," Hey hey stop stop!"
" I have to get in there. Please." Graham says to Emma, desperation genuine in his voice.
Zatanna steps up to Emma, persuading her," Let's just humour him Emma. We might find something."
After thinking for a while, Emma nods and she says," Okay. Let's find out."
Emma attempts to open the door but it's locked, prompting her to jiggle it as she growls," Come on!"
After struggling for a while, she thrusts her foot forward, kicking the door open before the trio enters.
The Enchanted Forest. Past. Dark Palace.
Back in the Dark Palace, A guard escorts the Huntsman to the Evil Queen's chambers before stopping him, commanding out," Wait here."
As he makes a leave, the Evil Queen enters, now donning a black dress.
The Huntsman notices her black clothing, commenting out," I see you're still in mourning."" The time for mourning is over. I simply found that black suits me." Changing the subject, the Evil Queen asks," Now, tell me, is Snow dead?"
" The young girl's heart as you requested." The Huntsman indicates a bag hanging over his shoulder.
As The Evil Queen takes a step forward in order to grab it, the Huntsman pulls the bag out of her reach, stopping her," First, there's something I must do."
He takes out a letter, prompting The Evil Queen to ask," What's this?"
" The girl wanted you to have it." The Huntsman says.
" Read it to me."
The Huntsman complies," Dear Stepmother, By the time you read this I will be dead. I understand that you will never have love in your life because of me. So it's only fitting that I'll be denied that same joy as well. For the sake of the kingdom, I hope my death satisfies your need for revenge, allowing you to rule my father's subjects as they deserve, with compassion, and a gentle hand. I know what you think you're doing is vengeance, I prefer to think of it as sacrifice, for the good of all. With that in mind I welcome the end. I want you to take my last message to heart. I'm sorry, and I forgive you."
Instead of feeling rather sympathtic, the Evil Queen takes the letter before turning around, walking over to the fireplace, throwing it into the fire as she mutters in disgust," Don't tell me you're becoming a sheep."
The Huntsman questioned," She put others before herself and yet, you hate her. What did she do to you?"
The Evil Queen answers," I shared a secret with her and she couldn't keep it and that betrayal cost me dearly." Turning around, she demands out," Now, show me her heart!"
Taking his bag, she walks into a neighboring room. Carefully she places the heart inside a casket.
The Evil Queen then approaches a wall of her vault made up of drawers only to realise the drawer did not.
" It should open."
Realizing what had happened, the Evil Queen angrily takes the heart out of the casket. Then she walks back towards the Huntsman, shouting at him," This isn't her heart! This isn't a human heart! What did you do?"
Storybrooke. Present day. Storybrooke Graveyard.
Inside the crypt, Sheriff Graham scours the room, searching for his heart.
As he is busy searching, Zatanna notices a sarcophagus standing in the middle of the room. The inscription reads ‚Henry Mills. Beloved father'.
At the same time, Graham is frantically scanning the wall, muttering out," It's got to be in here. Somewhere. There's got to be a hidden door. A lever. Something."
Emma looks around and she says to," Graham. Hey, Graham. There's nothing in here." Graham however, isn't convinced," There has to be. If there isn't, then..."
Just then, the trio heard a voice coming from the entrance, calling out to them," What the hell do you think you're doing?"
As Emma, Zatanna and Sheriff Graham exit the crypt, Emma retorts with a question," What are you doing here?"
" Bringing flowers to my father's grave. Like I do every Wednesday." Regina answers, holding up a bouquet of flowers.
Graham quickly says to Regina," Don't blame them. It's my fault. I wanted to look in there."
Regina raises an eyebrow," Really? Why? What were you looking for?"" Nothing. It was- uh, nothing. It was nothing." Graham denies, prompting Regina to grab Graham by his arm, saying to him," You don't look well, dear. Let's take you home."
As she began dragging him with her, right at that moment, Graham breaks free from her, shocking Regina.
Graham then declares out," Regina, I don't want to go home. Not with you."" Oh, but you'll go with her?"
Emma quickly raises up her hands, declaring out," Hey, this is between you two. Leave me out of it."
Zatanna nods," Yeah. And for once, I'd rather stay out of this one."
Graham agrees," She's right. It's between us. And things have to change."" And I wonder, why that is, all of a sudden."
Graham explains," It has nothing to do with her. I've realized that I don't feel anything, Regina. And I know now, it's not me. It's you."
Regina looks at him," So, you're leaving me for her."" I'm leaving you for me."
Regina tries to persuade him," Graham, you're not thinking straight." However, Graham says to her strongly," Actually, for the first time I am. I'd rather have nothing than settle for less. Nothing? Is better than what we have. I need to feel something, Regina, and the only way to do that is to give myself a chance."
" Graham..." Regina stares at him sadly as Graham apologises to her," I'm sorry. It's over."
Regina looks at Emma, glaring at both sisters as she snarls," I don't know what I ever did to you, Miss Swan, Miss Zatara, to deserve this. To have you keep coming after everything I hold dear."
Graham tries to defend her," I told you, it's not her."
Regina dismisses him off with another accusation," None of this happened until she got here."
Offended, Zatanna stood in front of Emma, questioning Regina," I'm sorry. Did you ever stop to think that maybe the problem isn't with me, but with you?"
Regina stares at her in utter disbelief," Excuse me?"
Emma agreed," Yeah, Henry came and found me. Graham kissed me. Both were miserable. Maybe, Madam Mayor, you need to take a good hard look in the mirror and ask yourself why that is. Why is everyone running away from you?"
Angered by what she head, Regina punches Emma in the face, who then falls into Graham who shouts at her," Regina!"
" Hey!" Regina turns, only to feel a knuckle connect to her face from Zatanna's gloved hand.
As Regina stumbles back, Zatanna pulls Regina close and she growls," How dare you hurt my sister!" She throws Regina across, only for Emma, who now recovered from the attack to throw a punch square across Regina's face.
Shaking her head to recover, Regina rushes forward, angrily shouting as both Emma and Zatanna thrashes their hands at her, with Graham holding them back while shouting," Stop! Stop! Stop!"
After a while, both Zatanna and Emma calms down with Zatanna putting a hand on Emma's shoulder as she mutters," Not worth it."
" Graham." Regina approaches Sheriff Graham. Turning away he follows Emma)
Storybrooke Sheriff Department.
Back in the Sheriff Department, Emma sits herself down on the chair as Graham asks Emma," So where did Zatanna go?"" Oh she said she's going somewhere. Don't know where though." Emma answers.
Sheriff Graham takes out an ice pack and hands it to Emma, letting her nurse her wound as he apologizes to her," I don't know what came over me. I kind of lost my mind."
" It's okay. You were tired. And feverish. And heartbroken." Emma assures him as Graham prepares the iodine in order to apply it to Emma's wound. He stops to look at Emma, saying," I don't know why I let myself get caught up with her."
" Because it was easy. And safe." Emma says in an empathetic tone," Not feeling anything is an attractive option when what you feel sucks."
Graham walks over to Emma. Gently, he wipes clean Emma's cut, causing her to wince from the strong medicine singing her wound," Felt that."
Meanwhile, back in the Mills' crypt. Regina sets the flowers on the coffin, seemingly paying respect to her deceased father.
She then pushes the sarcophagus aside revealing a staircase. Regina then descends down the stairs, entering the room below.
The Enchanted Forest Past. Dark Palace.
Back in the Dark Palace, the Evil Queen and the Huntsman are in the smaller room with the wall of drawers. She slams the heart down onto the pedestal, growling angrily at him," Did you think you can fool me with the heart of a stag?"
The Huntsman takes a step backward, attempting to flee only for the Evil Queen to wave her hand, using her magic to seal the door shut," You're not going anywhere."
" She doesn't deserve to die." The Huntsman defensively spoke provoking the Evil Queen to snarl," That's not up to you. I wanted a heart, and a heart I shall have."
Using her magic, the Evil Queen plunges her hand into the Huntsman's chest before tugging it out, holding up his still beating heart.
His eyes filled with agony and horror, the Huntsman asks," What... What are you going to do to me?
The Evil Queen plants a kiss on his lips, giving him a sneer as she answers," You're now mine, my pet."
She walks over to the wall of drawers and holds up the heart. A drawer pops out containing a casket, continuing her sentence," And this is your cage. From this moment forward, you will do everything that I say. And if you ever disobey me, if you ever try to run away, all I have to do is squeeze."
The Evil Queen squeezes the heart in her hand and the Huntsman doubles over in pain. The Evil Queen then shouts," Guards!"
Two guards enter the room and grab the Huntsman by the arms as the Evil Queen growls," Your life is now in my hands – forever. Take him to my bedchamber."
The guards take the Huntsman with them as the Evil Queen puts his heart in the box and closes the drawer.
