Chapter 18: The Stable Boy

Present, Storybrooke, The Mayor's House.

Mayor Regina Mills is standing inside her house and looking out a window, tears flowing down her face as she tearfully reminisces over a ring.

" Remembrance of things past?" Regina jumps, shocked by the sudden intrusion of a voice before questioning out," What do you want?"

Mr. Gold who is standing behind her tells her," I need a favor."

Regina scoffs, turning around before addressing Mr. Gold," You need a favor from me?"

Mr. Gold then cuts to the chase," Well, as you know, there are battery charges against me, pending. I really don't relish the thought of spending any more time locked up in a cage. Now—someone with your influence could make the D.A. suddenly realize what a flimsy case they have."

He walks over to table, asking," Isn't that right... Your majesty?"

He picks up an apple and Regina asks him," What do I get out of it?"

Mr. Gold smirks," Help with your Mary Margaret problem. You see, I've noticed that no matter how hard you seem to try to stop them, she and her charming friend just keep finding ways to be together."

Regina sat down and she asks," What are you suggesting?"

" If you want to inflict pain..." Mr. Gold states, pointedly sets down the apple before sitting himself down, continuing his sentence," Then you must inflict pain. If something tragic... were to happen to David's wife, and if Mary Margaret should take the blame..."

Regina gasps," She'd be ruined."

Mr. Gold nods," And you'd have your victory, at last."

" A trial could be very messy." Regina points out but
Mr. Gold however, says," A trial? Now who said anything about a trial? No, once Miss Blanchard has been incarcerated, you can plant one of your lovely skeleton keys in her cell. And once she tries to leave Storybrooke, well... we all know what happens to people who attempt to leave town."

Regina leans forward, questioning Mr. Gold suspiciously," Give me one good reason why I should trust you."

Mr. Gold stands up, taking apple as he answers,
" Because I always honor my agreements. Do we have a deal?"

He tosses Regina the apple, which she catches with her hands.

Past, The Enchanted Forest, The Regina's Childhood Home.

A young Regina rides a horse on a training field by a small house.

Her father Henry watches Regina rides and he chuckles out, proud of his daughter," Yes!"

Regina finishes and as she dismounts, Henry compliments his daughter," Ahh, that's beautiful, sweetheart."

They share a hug and a kiss as Regina thanks her father," Oh, thank you, Daddy."

At that moment, Regina's mother, Cora and her fiancé Daniel approached and Cora scoffs out,
" Beautiful? I'd hardly call that beautiful."

Regina looks at her, asking," You didn't like it, mother?"

Cora criticises," You ride like a man. A lady should be graceful. You should use a saddle."

Regina chuckles out," I was just having fun."

" You're getting a little old for fun. Who's going to want to marry you when you behave like a commoner?" Cora harshly scolds Regina.

Henry advances a step, trying to defend his daughter," Honey, please leave her alone."

" Stop coddling her. She's becoming an old maid. All the other girls her age are married." Cora rants before sighing out," I had such high hopes."

Daniel then steps forward and he offers " Milady, perhaps this saddle might..."

" I'm done riding for the day." Regina dismisses him as she her horse past Daniel, saying to him," And don't ever interrupt me and my mother again."

Cora smirks as Daniel takes the reins from Regina and leads the horse away with just one look back.

Regina then lashes at Cora," Why do you always have to criticize me?"

Cora however, disagrees with her daughter's sentiments," I'm not criticizing you. I'm helping you."

Regina starts to walk away and Cora shouts at her angrily," Don't you walk away from me."

She uses her magic to lift Regina into the air, causing her to cry out in distress," Oh! Mother! You know I don't like it when you use magic."

" And I don't like insolence. I'll stop using magic when you start being an obedient daughter." Cora snarls.

Regina gasps out frustratingly," Why can't I just be myself?"

" Oh, because you can be so much more—if you'd just let me help you." Cora states.

Regina argues," I don't care about status, I just want to be—Oh!"

Before Regina could continue, Cora chokes her off with her magic.

Realising that his wife is hurting her daughter Henry begs to Cora," Cora, please."

Cora doesn't listen, she continue to lift Regina higher up into the air. using some straps from the riding equipment to encircling her daughter as Regina begs," Please. I'll be good."

Cora smirks upon hearing that," Excellent. That's all I wanted to hear."

She releases her grip of Regina and the young girl promptly flees into the stable.

Stable

Inside the stables, Daniel is busy tending to Regina's horse as she enters, apologising to Daniel," Daniel? I'm sorry I snapped at you."

Daniel smiles at her," That's all right."

Closing the distance, until the two are almost touching, Daniel whispers to her flirtatiously," You'll just have to find some way to make it up to me."

The two plants their lips into each other, into a deep kiss

Present, Storybrooke, Granny's Diner

Outside Granny's Diner, Emma and Zatanna exits from the Diner, with Emma adjusting her hair when a voice calls out to them," Emma! Zatanna! Hey."

Emma says to him," David, we don't have time."

David walks towards them with an umbrella and he asks in concern," No, I-I understand—it's Mary Margaret. How's she doing?"

" How do you think she's doing?" Emma returns his question with another question.-

The two walk towards Emma's car as David follows after, telling them," Well, I think the last time we spoke, she didn't quite get what I meant.

" Oh, you mean that you basically told her you thought she might be guilty?" Zatanna asks.

David sighs out," Look, it's this situation. It's been confusing and horrible for everyone. But please you two, I don't think she's guilty. I need her to know that. Can I see her?"

" She doesn't want visitors." Emma states.

" You mean me. She doesn't want to see me." David says dejectedly.

Zatanna assured him," Don't worry, David, I'm sure your heart is in the right place."

" But the last thing she needs right now is words of encouragement from you." Emma says as she gets into the car.

" What does she need?" David asks as Zatanna also gets in, with the latter answering," A miracle."

David could only watch as Emma drives off

Sherrif's Department

In the Sheriff's Department, Mary Margaret is asleep on a cot in the lone cell.

Suddenly, she gasps and she sits up, panting.

Mary Margaret turns, seeing Regina sitting in front of the cell and she says to her maliciously," They say only the guilty sleep in prison."

" What are you doing here? Where's Zatanna? Where's Emma?" Mary Margaret questions

" They hasn't arrived yet. I just wanted to stop by to offer you a chance—a chance to spare yourself and this town the messiness of a trial, the chance to confess." Regina sneers.

Mary Margaret rises, walking to bars and she shouts,
" But I didn't kill Kathryn. Why won't anyone believe me?"

Regina began listing out the evidence," The murder weapon was found in your apartment. Your fingerprint was on the box containing Kathryn's heart. Shall I go on?"

She stands up and she threatens," Why not, for once, make it easier on everyone? Because confession or not, you're leaving Storybrooke."

" And you like that. Why?" Mary Margaret questions out in outrage," Why do you take such pleasure in this? What did I ever do to you to make you hate me so much?"

Regina didn't answer, simply seething over a memory from the Enchanted Forest.

Past, The Enchanted Forest, Regina's Childhood Home

Out in the Field, Regina rides out to meet Daniel by a tree.

The pair embraces each other and Daniel says to her," I thought we could take a ride to Firefly Hill. We can make it by sundown, have a picnic."

However, Regina declines," I can't. I have to be back in an hour. Tea time. A lady never misses her tea time."

Daniel breaks away from her, ranting out," This is absurd. Stealing kisses between lunch and tea? When are you gonna tell your parents about us?"

Regina shakes her head," It's not my parents. It's her."

Daniel questions out, confused," I don't understand. So I work in the stables. She started out as the daughter of a miller. Wouldn't she, of all people, understand?"

" She does. But—but she thinks one's trajectory needs to keep moving up, and..." Regina says and
Daniel finishes for her," And I'm down."

" She believes that. Daniel... I know better." Regina tries to convince Daniel but he persuades her, " Regina, tell her. She'll get over it. What can she do?"

Regina looks at him, questioning him in fear,
" Have you not seen her magic? It w-the real question is what can't she do?"

" Who cares about magic?" Daniel brushes her off, stroking her face as he says to her," True love is the most powerful magic of all. It can overcome anything."

All of a sudden, the pair a voice screaming out," Help!"

" Shh! Someone's here!" Regina shushes

The pair notices a young girl riding on a horse, a runaway horse that isn't slowing and she is screaming in fear," Somebody, help me!!!"

Regina quickly mounts up her horse and and chases it down with the girl screaming for help all the while

" Come on, please, stop! Help me! Oh! Help! Help me! Please help me!" The girl screams in terror as Regina closes in, putting out her hand," Give me your hand!"

She the girl onto her horse and stops as the horse began slowing down.

The girl falls to the ground and Regina dismounts, running to her, assuring the girl," It's okay, dear, you're safe!"

" You saved my life!" The girl exclaims as Regina asks her," Are you all right?"

" Yes. But I'll never ride again." The girl says, causing
Regina to scoff out," Nonsense. The only way to overcome fear is to face it. To get back on that horse as soon as possible."

" Thank you." The girl thanks Regina as she introduce herself," Regina"

The girl smiles as she introduces herself," I'm Snow. Snow White."

The two embraces, hugging to symbolise their friendship.

Present, Storybrooke, Sheriff's Department.

Mary Margaret is sitting in a cell while Emma and Zatanna stands outside it with Mr. Gold.

Emma questions him," A pretrial interview with the prosecution? Explain to me how that is a good idea."

" The D.A. merely wishes to ask Miss Blanchard a few questions." Mr. Gold says and Zatanna objects,
" She's done answering questions, and why are we kissing up to the D.A.? Why aren't we going after Regina, she's the one setting up Mary Margaret."

Mr. Gold rebutted," And what proof do we have of that, Miss Zatara? Just because you found the mayor's skeleton key in the cell doesn't mean we can prove she put it there."

Emma then asks Mr. Gold," So what's your plan?"

Mr. Gold then answers," I believe our best chance of winning this case is to employ our most valuable asset."

Mary Margaret then asks, curious," What's that?"

Mr. Gold then points at her," Well that's you, dear. A sweet, kind elementary schoolteacher. Doesn't exactly fit the prototype of a killer, now does it?"

Emma then questions his move," That's how you're going to get her acquitted? By using her personality?"

" Perception is everything, Miss Swan—not just in the courtroom, but in life. As such, I'm sure you can imagine how the jury would perceive Miss Blanchard if she agreed to cooperate with the District Attorney. These things engender trust. It shows the jury she's at least trying..." Before Mr. Gold could continue, a voice interrupts him," Emma?"

The trio looks, seeing Sidney Glass entering, holding a vase full of flowers as he apologises," Oh, I'm sorry to interrupt, I just, uh, came by to drop these off. I thought they might brighten the place up."

" I'll be right back." Emma says as she proceeds to the office to meet him while Mary Margaret and Mr. Gold share a look and Zatanna stays outside, folding her arms as she listens in to the conversation," What did you find?"

Sidney shakes his head," Nothing. I-I'm sorry, Emma, I tried. I really did. I looked into her phone records. I talked to the people at the toll bridge, but look, what can I say, Regina knows how to cover her tracks."

" What about the murder weapon? Did you find anything tying her to that?" Emma asks and Sindey simply says," From what I can tell, she never bought or owned a hunting knife."

" That's all you were able to uncover?" Emma questions and Sidney assure her," Don't worry. I'm gonna keep digging. And I won't stop until I do find something."

Sidney leaves, to a suspicious look from Emma as she says to Zatanna who is approaching her," Try to keep an eye on him. Something tells me you're right about Sidney."

Zatanna nods," Will do Emma."

Emma then steps outside to have a whispered conversation with Mr. Gold as Mary Margaret approaches Zatanna, saying to her," I'm gonna do it. I'm going to talk to the D.A."

" Are you sure?" Zatanna asks and Mary Margaret admits," Mr. Gold's right. I know I have nothing to hide, but no one else does. I need to let people see me for who I am."

" Excellent decision, Miss Blanchard."

The pair trio and upon seeing the D.A, Zatanna eyes narrows, recognising him.

King George, known as Albert Spencer in this world enters alongside Regina, introducing himself,
" My name is Spencer, I'm the District Attorney. Shall we begin?"

Mary Margaret nods," Yeah."

Later

Mary Margaret and Mr. Gold sit at a table. Across from them is Albert Spencer. Emma, Zatanna and Regina watch from behind a pane of glass.

Zatanna whispers to Emma," I'm not liking where this is going. This D.A spells bad news."

" How do you know Sis? You've never met him." Emma says to her as Zatanna states," I just do. I mean look at him, he doesn't look trustworthy."

" Either way, it's out of our hands now." Emma says
D.A. Spencer begins," After she learned about your affair, Mrs. Nolan, the deceased, came to your school to confront you, is that correct?"

Mary Margaret doesn't deny," She was hurt, and she felt betrayed."

" She struck you—In the face, was it?" D.A Spencer asks and Mary Margaret nods," Yes, but..."

" That must've made you angry." D.A Spencer interrupts.

Mr. Gold tries to coax Mary Margaret," You-you don't have to answer that."

Mary Margaret however, rejects Mr. Gold's suggestion," No, it's okay. I was not angry. I was sorry for all the pain I had caused her."

D.A. Spencer snorts in disbelief and he sneers,
" Miss Blanchard, this is not a courtroom. I'm not here to judge you. You can be honest with me."

Mr. Gold asks her," Should we end this?"

Mary Margaret ignores him and she says straightly,
" I am being honest with you."

D.A. Spencer then probes," The wife of the man you loved humiliated you in a public forum; surely you must have felt some anger towards Kathryn."

" Yes, I was angry..." Mary Margaret says and
D.A. Spencer proves further," And did you ever think about acting upon that anger?"

Mary Margaret quickly denies," Of course not."

D.A. Spencer sarcastically remarks," I have a hard time believing that."

Mary Margaret looks from D.A Spencer to Mr. Gold, questioning his lack of belief," Wh-why?"

D.A. Spencer spat," Because you wanted Kathryn Nolan gone."

Mary Margaret shakes her head," I never said that."

" That's it. My client is answering no more questions for the day." Mr. Gold declares, trying to stop this before it goes too far.

D.A. Spencer however rejects Mr. Gold proposition,
" Your client agreed to this interview because she claimed she had nothing to hide."

Mary Margaret shouts at him," I don't have anything to hide!"

D.A. Spencer then questions," Then what is your answer. You wanted Kathryn gone, didn't you."

Mary Margaret emphatically answers," No."

D.A. Spencer then questioned," Even after she tried to keep you and David apart? After she slapped you in public? After she made you a pariah in her own town?"

Mary Margaret began feeling distraught by D.A Spencer's attitude, and she sarcastically remarks," Yes, I wanted her gone, she was the only thing keeping us apart so yeah, I wanted her gone—is that what you wanna hear?"

She looks at D.A Spencer, who seems pleased about what he has uncovered.

She then looks at Mr. Gold, who seems disappointed.

Mary Margaret herself begins to look horrified, realising that sarcastic remark has now been deemed as a confession for a murder she never committed.

Outside, Regina smiles as Zatanna narrows her eyes, thinking to herself," That bastard. He was evil back in the Enchanted Forest and even here, he's just as bad."

Past, Enchanted Forest, Regina's Childhood Home

Regina, who is wearing riding clothes, admires herself in front of a mirror.

Just then,  Cora enters and upon seeing what Regina is wearing, shakes her head in disapproval,
" No, this won't do."

She waves her hand, casting a spell, causing purple smoke to engulf Regina

" What are you doing?" Regina questions out in shock.

The smoke clears, revealing Regina in a ball gown as
Cora explains," We have a guest. He'll be here any moment."

Upon hearing that, Regina objects," I can't: I have a riding lesson with Daniel."

" Well, that's been canceled. Now smile. We don't want to disappoint him." Cora states.

" Disappoint who?" Regina asks, curious as Cora answers her," The King."

Regina giggles," The King? Why is the King coming?"

Cora smiles as she answers," Because you've finally done something right! That little girl you saved? Is the king's daughter."

Regina gasps out in shock as King Leopold, Henry, and two retainers enters

King Leopold notices Regina and he asks Henry,
" Is that her?"

Henry nods," Yes."

Cora curtsies and she introduces him to her daughter," Regina, honey? This is Snow White's father."

Regina curtsies as well but King Leopold chuckles," No. It is I who should bow to you. You saved my daughter's life. There is no way to repay that debt. It is an honor, to meet you."

He bows to her and Cora nudges Regina," Regina. Dear. The—King's honored to meet you; say something."

" Oh. The honor is mine." Regina says King Leopold beams," You're quite lucky to have a mother who looks out for you. My dear Snow has many things, but a mother is not one of them. We lost her years ago."

Regina empathetically apologises to him," I'm so sorry."

King Leopold then states," Since then I have scoured the land, looking for a wife. I've yet to find a woman with an interest in my daughter, until now."

He takes a box from a pillow that one of his retainers offers him.

He then kneels in front of her, holding up his with a ring said," Will you marry me, Regina?"

Henry nods and Cora simply answers much to the dismay of Regina," Yes. Yes."

Soon

Back at the Stable, Regina throws open the doors and she calls out," Daniel? Daniel!"

Daniel leaves stall, where he was caring for a horse and he asks," What is it?"

Regina hugs Daniel tightly and she instructs him,
" Marry me."

Daniel looks at her, confused," Regina, what are you doing? What's happened? Did you tell your mother?"

Regina shakes her head," No. And now I can never tell her, she won't understand. That girl I saved—was the king's daughter. And now he's proposed, to me!"

" What?" Daniel exclaims out in shock as Regina began sobbing," My mother accepted! The only way out is to run. For us to leave this place, for us to be married, for us to never come back."

Daniel puts his hand on her and he says," Regina. Do you understand what that would mean? Life with a stable boy is a far cry from a life as Queen."

Regina shakes her head," Being Queen means nothing. Daniel All I care about is you."

She strikes his face as Daniel kisses her thumb," And if I am to marry you, let's do this properly."

He fetchers a ring from a nearby saddle, slips it on Regina's finger and he says," Here."

The two began kissing just as the door opens.

Snow White enters, much to the horror of Regina.

" Snow! Do you r--what are you doing?" Regina questions in shock as Snow White asks upon seeing Daniel," You said to get back on the horse, and—what are you doing with him?"

" Snow, I can explain." Regina tried to explain but Snow White dashed out of the stables, causing Regina to shout," No, Snow—Snow!!!"

Regina runs after Snow White as she shouts," Snow? Snow! Wait! Snow!"

Right at that moment, Snow White trips, Regina uses her moment of injury to overtake her as she asks," Snow! Are you okay?"

Snow White pushes her away," No. No. Why were you kissing that man in the stable? You're to marry my father, you're to be my mother!"

" Snow, please, listen to me. He—your father, King Leopold, he's a kind and fair man. But I don't love him!" Regina begs and Snow White questions her, confused," I don't understand. Why not?"

Regina explains," Love doesn't work that way. Love—true love—is magic. And not just any magic. The most powerful magic of all. It creates happiness."

Snow White then asks about Daniel," And that man in the stables. You love him?"

Regina confesses," With all my heart."

Snow White then states," Then you must marry him."

The two giggles as Snow White happily declares out,
" I will go tell Father right away!"

Regina quickly stops her," No no, n-n-n-no! You can't."

Snow White looks at her, confused," Why not? Surely he'll understand."

Regina says," Perhaps, but not everyone will. My mother for one, she'll—stand in the way."

Snow White widens her eyes, realisation dawns on her," That's why you're running."

Regina nods," It's the only way our love can survive. Snow. Do you know what a secret is? If you really, truly want to help me..."

Snow White nods," I do."

" Then what you saw, what I told you, you must keep it a secret. Can you do that?" Regina asks and Snow White simply says, uncertain," I think so."

Regina strictly tells her," I need you to be certain. You can never speak of this. And above all, you mustn't tell my mother. Will you do that for me?"

Snow White nods, promising her," Yes. I promise."

The two hugs each other, with Snow White swearing her vow.

Present, Storybrooke, Outside

Emma is busy flipping through Henry's storybook, specifically the wedding of Prince Charming and Snow White while Zatanna remarks," Great. Now what can we do?"

Emma stares at the picture of Zatara in there and she groans," Too bad dad's gone. If he were a magician, he would magically fix all of this."

At that moment, August walks over and he asks the two women," Whatcha doin'?"

Emma closes the book as Zatanna answers," Grasping at straws."

" Still tryin' to find a way to prove your friend's been framed?"August asks as he hands Emma a newspaper.

Emma sighs out in defeat," Every time I go down a path I think leads somewhere, it ends up being a dead end. Used to think I had these great—instincts. Superpower. Now I don't know."

August sits down next to her and he says," Sounds like you've got a case of writer's block. Only without the whole writing part.

Emma says," Maybe."

August then tells them," You know when i get struck by a block? I usually reread what I've done. Rather than plow ahead blindly, sometimes I find there'll be a little nugget of inspiration left behind."

" You mean start over?" Zatanna asks.

August nods," I mean when I start writing. I usually have one idea. And then in the middle? I make it another idea, and... things are different."

Emma then points out," So your perspective changes."

August nods," Exactly. When you started this investigation, what was it about."

" A missing person." Emma answers as August then adds," Now it became a murder. And then a cover-up... if you knew that then, maybe you would have approached things... differently."

Emma stands up and Zatanna stands to and Augusts ask them," Where are you two going?"

" Scene of the crime." Emma answers.

August follows the two women and he offers," I'll drive."

" No, We're fine." Emma rejects but

August isn't convinced," No, you're not. Neither of you have slept in days. And let's be honest: it was my idea."

Zatanna then asks August," Can you drive a car? It's not the same as a bike."

August nods and Zatanna tosses him the keys," Here."

Toll Bridge

The car drives right up to the bridge.

It is marked "Toll Bridge," but someone has inked in an "r." Now it reads "Troll Bridge."

They stop at the end of the bridge as the trip gets out of the car.

Emma then points at the spot," Ruby found the box to the heart right over here."

They proceed to the edge of the river as Emma says,"Just by the shore."

August suddenly grunts and he stiffens, causing Zatanna to ask," What?

August quickly tries to brush it off," Nothing."

" Doesn't seem like nothing. Hey, are you alright?" Zatanna asks him in concern and August quickly dismisses it," No, it's okay. Just shin splints, let me—walk it off."

They arrive at the river, where yellow crime scene tape marks off an area and August apologises to Emma," Sorry. I know this must be hard on you."

" Heh, that's an understatement!" Emma chuckles.

August however, says," I don't know you that well, I know you have Zatanna but... seems to me that aside from Henry, Mary Margaret's the closest thing to family you've got. It's okay to admit it."

Emma suddenly notices something and she tells August and Zatanna," Guys? Look."

She removes the tip of a shovel from a hole as
August asks," What is it?"

" A shard. From a shovel. Must've broken off when it hit a rock. If we can find this shovel that it broke off of, we can prove that Mary Margaret didn't bury the heart; we can prove she's innocent!" Emma exclaims.

August then says," And I'm guessing you know exactly whose shovel it is."

Regina Mills' House

At night, Regina enters Henry's room to check on him, before leaving him to sleep.

When she's gone, Henry Mills grabs a handheld radio, leaps up, and peeks out the door, saying,
" The eagle's in the nest, and the package is secure."

Outside, Emma and Zatanna are standing outside with August as Emma says," Henry. I left the codebook at home."

" She's getting in the shower and the keys are under the mat." Henry says.

Emma reaches under the doormat, grabs a key, fitting it in the lock, she says to August," Don't touch a thing."

They enter Regina's garage, looking around until Zatanna notices something," Hey."

She takes the shard, fitting it to the broken tip of a shovel and she grins," We got her."

Upon hearing that, both Emma and August smiles.

Past, Enchanted Forest, Regina's Childhood Home.

Snow White is admiring a flower, touching it when Cora comes in, telling her," Careful, sweetheart. A flower's a delicate thing. Be gentle. You want it to grow, and not pluck it before its time."

As she is admiring  her own flower, Snow White apologises to her," I'm sorry."

Cora lets out a Good-natured chuckle," It's all right. You needn't fear me, I'm only trying to help. Perhaps you can be the flower girl at the wedding! I can already see how close you and Regina have become."

She then leads Snow White to a couch where they sit down, with Cora saying to her," She's going to make a fine mother for you."

Snow White smiles," She is kind to me."

Cora chuckles out," Indeed. It warms my heart how you two share everything. Already. Perhaps you could share something with me. Why has she pulled away from me?"

Snow White asks," What do you mean?"

Cora then explains to her," A mother knows her daughter, Regina's pulled away. I love her so much, but she's not letting me help her and I-I know she's unhappy. Has she said something? I'd do anything to make her happy."

" You'd do anything?" Snow White asks and Cora nods," Ah, of course, dear. You know, I talked to the King about your mother, he told me how much she loved you. Losing her must have been so hard."

Snow White agrees," It was."

" Hearing him I realized he might as well have been talking about me and Regina. I don't want us to lose each other. If only I could show her, how I feel. That no matter what, all I want is her happiness." Cora said.

Snow White rises and she states," Then don't make her get married."

" I'm sorry?" Cora asks as Snow White tells her," She doesn't love my father. She loves someone else. She made me promise not to tell. But she'll lose you. She can't lose her mother. No one should."

Cora smiles as she lies," Oh. Sweet Snow, it's all right. She won't lose me. You can tell me. You must tell me."

Present, Storybrooke, Regina Mills' House

Emma knocks on the front door and Regina opens it, asking," Sheriff Swan, Miss Zatara. Can I help you?"

Emma nods," Yes. I need you to unlock the garage for me."

Regina questions," Ehh, why would I do that?"

Emma pulls out a piece of paper and she informs her," Because I have a search warrant that says that you have to."

Regina takes the warrant, examines it and she challenges," On what grounds?"

" We found this." Emma says as Zatanna brandished the shovel shard in a bag, saying to her," Near where the heart was buried. Figured whoever buried it might've left something behind. Then I got an anonymous call from someone who said they saw you, digging, near the toll bride the day the heart was found."

" An anonymous call." Regina says.

" Yeah. Well, I can't control the fact they didn't leave a name. Guess they didn't want to risk pissing you off." Emma says and Regina simply says," Hmm."

" Now open the garage or I'll find a way to do it myself." Emma orders.

Regina simply smiles and she leads Emma into the garage. Emma heads straight to the shovel's previous location only to realise the shovel is gone,
" Where is it?"

" Where is what, Sheriff?" Regina questions innocently.

Zatanna accuses her," You knew we were coming."

" How on Earth would I know that?" Regina lies, causing Zatanna to seeth in anger," Don't try to lie Madam Mayor, we don't buy your lies."

" Now Miss Zatara. Please hold your tongue, I can sue you for slander!" Regina growls.

" Mary Margaret is a good person, she doesn't deserve this." Emma says and Regina sneers,
" Miss Blanchard is a liar and a murderer. No matter what accusations you throw my way--that won't change. She is going to pay, for what she's done. That woman has destroyed the last life she is ever going to destroy."

Granny's Bed and Breakfast

Soon, in the Hallway outside Room 2. Emma knocks on the door. August opens it and upon seeing Zatanna and Emma outside, he greets them," Hey!"

" How could you do this? How could you do this to me, to Mary Margaret?" Emma accuses them.

" Woah! Slow down. Do what?" August exclaims, not knowing what is going on.

Emma states," The shovel was gone when I got there. Regina knew I was coming for her."

August stares at her, shocked by the accusation, " You...you think that I told her?"

" You were the only other person who knew about it." Emma says and August tells her," I would hope, that you would have enough faith, to know that I would never betray you."

" Why should we know? How do I know you're not lying about this? About everything?" Zatanna asks and August answers her honestly," I'm not a liar."

" That is exactly what a liar would say." Emma says, not believing a word August said.

Sheriff's Department

Meanwhile, Mary Margaret sits weeping in her cell.

At that moment Regina enters and upon seeing the crying Mary Margaret, she asks in a gloating manner," Having a bad day?"

Mary Margaret sits up, questioning her," What are you doing here?"

" I wanted to see you while I can." Regina states, causing Mary Margaret to question her, confused,
" What does that mean?"

Regina explains," Simply that the trial starts tomorrow and it won't be a long one. And you'll be sent out of Storybrooke for good and I will never have to see you again. Ohh, I want to enjoy this while I still can."

" Enjoy what?" Mary Margaret asks, looking at
Regina as she sneers," Justice."

Mary Margaret questions Regina's words," Justice? Watching an innocent suffer?"

" You've always seen yourself that way, haven't you. Innocent." Regina smirks.

Mary Margaret run up to cage bars, sobbing out as she shouts," I am innocent! I don't know what this is about, I don't know what I ever did to you but whatever it was, Regina, I'm sorry. I truly am."

" Apology not accepted." Regina says and Mary Margaret begs her," Please. Don't do this to me. I don't deserve this, I did not kill Kathryn."

" Oh, I know..." Regina grabs Mary Margaret's face and she growls," But you do deserve this."

With that, Regina releases her grip off of Mary Margaret and she turns around, leaving the Sheriff's Department.

Past, Enchanted Forest, Regina's Childhood Home,

In the Stable, Regina enters as Daniel asks her,
" Are you ready?"

" Let's go." Regina says.

However, just as they are about to leave, Cora suddenly out of the gloom and she says," You could've at least left a note."

Cora spreads her hand out, knocking the two back with a blue spell.

She appears inside the stable without appearing to walk there, and the doors close behind her, looming over the pair.

Regina pushes herself up and she says," Mother, I..."

Cora stops her," Don't. You sneak out of my house in the dead of night and think I won't notice? How dare you."

" You're impossible to talk to. Stop with the magic and listen to me. I want to be with Daniel." Regina shouts.

Cora rebutted," Uh! You don't know what you want. But I do. I didn't make the sacrifices I did in life to get you to the cusp of greatness so that you could end up the wife of a stable boy."

" It's my life!" Regina shouts and Cora simply laughs," You foolish girl. It's mine. After what I had to do, the deals I had to make to get us out of poverty, to get us this life, and you just want to toss it away?"

Daniel says to Regina," Stay strong, Regina."

Regina shouts at Cora defiantly," Your magic can't keep us apart. I love him."

Daniel states to Cora," And I love her."

" And I love her too." Cora says to Daniel.

Regina then states to Cora," If you loved me you wouldn't try to keep us apart!"

Cora retorts back to Regina," And if you loved me you wouldn't try to run away."

Regina apologises," I'm sorry, but this is my happiness. We're going."

" No." She lifts up a magic-tinged hand, saying to her," You're not."

Regina then questions," So what's your plan? You're going to—keep us here, forever? Because that's what you'll have to do."

" So this is—your decision. This will make you, happy?" Cora asks and Regina admits," It already has."

" Then who am I to stop you." Cora simply says
Regina embraces Cora, thanking her," Thank you, mother."

" Daniel." Cora says to Daniel and she takes him aside," If you want to have a life together, a family, then there's one important lesson I can impart on you. It's what it means to be a parent. You always have to do what's best for your children."

Daniel nods," Thank you. I understand. Because that's what you're doing now."

" Yes. It is." Cora says and she plunged her hand into Daniel's chest.

Daniel gasps out in agony as Regina screams out," Mother!"

Cora pulls out her hand, clutching his heart.

Daniel collapses onto the floor as Regina cries out,
" Noooo!"

Regina rushes over to his fallen body, cradling him as she cries out again," Noo!"

Cora clenched her fist, crushing his heart within her hand and sand trickles out from between her fingers.

Regina looks up and she questions her mother,
" Mother, why have you done this?"

Cora smirks," Because this is your happy ending."

" What?" Regina questions, confused as Cora tells her," I know you'll have to trust me, Regina. I know best. Love is weakness, Regina. It feels real now; at the start it always does. But it's an illusion. It fades, and then you're left with nothing. But power—true power—endures. And then you don't have to rely on anyone to get what you want. I've saved you, my love."

Regina angrily shouts at her accusingly," You've ruined everything. I loved him. I loved him!"

" Enough! I've endured this long enough. Now clean yourself up. Wipe away your tears. Because now? You're going to be queen." Cora commands.

Soon

Inside a Dressing Room, Snow White watches three attendants dress Regina in a wedding gown and she compliments her," Wow. You really are the fairest of them all!"

" Hmm. Thank you, dear." Regina thanks her.

Snow White smiles and she comments out," I hope for my wedding day I'll be as beautiful."

" I'm sure you will be." Regina says

Snow White smiles," I know you and Daniel will be so happy together."

Upon hearing that Regina turns to look at Snow White, questioning her," What?"

Snow White looks down as she confesses, unaware of the consequences of her actions," Well, I just knew your mother would let you marry him once she knew how happy it'd make you! Once she knew how much you love him. You have such a wonderful mother. She would do anything for your happiness."

Regina then questions Snow White, anger growing within her," Snow? Did—did you--tell her? About me and Daniel?"

" Yes!" Snow White answers and Regina scolds her," But I told you, very specifically, not to."

Snow White apologises," I'm sorry. I just didn't want you to lose your mother. Like I've lost mine."

Regina turns away, distraught and Snow White asks her," Are you mad?"

Regina however, tells her," No. I'm not mad at all. You were just trying to help me. However, I'm not marrying Daniel. This dress is for your father."

Snow White looks at her, confused," But, I thought you were in love."

Regina lies," So did I, but I was wrong. Daniel has run away. What I had with Daniel wasn't real; it was an infatuation. See, that's the thing about love. It can come in the most unexpected of places: your father and I had something even more special. Because it's not just about the two of us. It's about all of us. We're going to be a family."

Snow White looks at her, her eyes gleams in excitement," We are?"

Regina smiles," That's right. I'm going to be your stepmother, and I couldn't be happier."

" Me too." Snow White agrees.

Both of them laugh and hugs each other .

At that moment, Cora enters and she says to Snow White," Snow. You need to go to your room, help with the packing. Your father wants you ready for the journey and we're heading to your castle first thing in the morning."

Snow White smiles at her and she says to Cora excitedly," You're both going to love it there."

Cora nods," I know we will."

Snow White leaves as Cora compliments Regina,
" Well played, dear. You're learning."

Regina tells her," I should change. Don't want to ruin the dress before my big day."

Cora smiles as she praises Regina," I am so proud of you."

Regina then asks Cora," You knew the king was traveling through our land, didn't you. That steed with Snow didn't go wild on its own. Did it?"

Cora answers Regina, unconvincingly," I have no idea what you're saying."

Regina could only curse under her breath, expressing regret in saving Snow White," I should have let her die on that horse."

Present, Storybrooke, Regina Mills' Home.

Inside her home, Regina, holding a ring, looks out a window, saying," We got her, Daniel. We got her."

Regina closes her eyes, happy to finally get her revenge.

Present, Storybrooke, Sheriff's Department.

Two law enforcement officers handcuffs Mary Margaret and lead her away as Emma, Zatanna and Mr. Gold look on.

Emma could only mournfully whisper to her friend,
"  Mary Margaret."

Zatanna then questions out," What did we do wrong? How could it all end like this?"

Emma turns to Mr. Gold and she accuses him,
" You told me you could fix this. That's why Zatanna came to you. So that you could make sure Regina didn't win."

" Well, she hasn't, yet." Mr. Gold says and Emma tells him," Well, she's going to. And now my friend is going to pay for me trusting you."

Mr. Gold however, is rather optimistic about the seemingly hopeless situation," Look, Sheriff, Miss Zatara, I know this is emotional, but it's also not over. You must have faith, there's still time."

" Time for what?" Zatanna questions and Mr. Gold simply answers," For me to work a little magic."

Mr. Gold then leaves as Emma and Zatanna looks at each other.

A frustrated Emma throws Sidney's flowerpot against a filing cabinet. Suddenly, she notices something among the debris.

There lies in the soil is a bug. A listening device.

Emma finally realizes that she should have heeded Zatanna's warnings and not work with Sidney

Granny's Diner.

August Booth closes the front door of the diner as he heard a voice greeting them," Hey."

August looks as he sees Zatanna and Emma walking up to him, with Emma apologising," We're sorry."

August asks," For what?"

" For doubting you? I made a mistake." She holds up the bug in a plastic bag and August asks," What's that?"

" Evidence. Evidence that proves I've been trusting all the wrong people." Emma admits," I should've listened to you. This bug? It's from Sidney. Zatanna was right about him all along."

" The newspaper guy?" August questions out and Zatanna says to Emma," Don't beat yourself up about it Emma, Nobody would have suspected it."

" I should've seen it." Emma says and August assured her," Sometimes it's hard to see what's right in front of us. But we knew you would."

" We?" Emma asks as Zatanna and August looks at each other.

Suddenly, a loud scream splits the air, shocking the trio

Zatanna, Emma and August dashes outside, only to bump into a rather shocked Ruby.

" Ruby? What's going on?" Zatanna asks and Ruby stammers out, shock in her eyes," It's she-she's in the alley."

" Ruby, what happened?" Emma asks and she runs to investigate as August tries to comfort the scared Ruby," Hey, you all right? Huh?"

Emma runs out and she gasps, there she finds a body lying facedown.

It is Kathryn. Alive.

As Zatanna and August came to investigate, Zatanna looks at Kathryn, expressing out in shock," Damn. Did not see that coming.
