Code Blue

Code Blue

Your POV

Even though I was conscious, the doctors decided to put me in a gurney next to Ava.

'I've just found happiness... Am I gonna lose it now??'

I looked at her. She looked peaceful. Her head was wounded and I saw a metal piece that pierced her stomach.

'DOCTOR!!!'

'What happened?! Are you alright?'

'That metal piece went across her stomach!'

'Don't worry. She will be okay. It's better not to remove the foreign object or the bleeding will increase. We'll do everything we can so she survives okay?'

'Okay...'

He put a mask over my nose and mouth and I felt really sleepy... In a matter of seconds, I blacked out.

I woke up in the hospital. I had never been there and it felt kind of scary. I looked around looking for Ava but the bed next to mine was empty. A nurse came in and saw me.

'You're awake. We treated your wounds and you're almost ready to go. Do you want me to call your father to pick you up later?'

'I... don't have a father...'

'Oh I'm so sorry... If you can just give me your first and last name so I can look you up?'

'Y/n y/l/n'

'A doctor will come briefly to do a final check'

I was alone again in the big, white, scary room... I looked at the ceiling, praying for Ava to be okay. I was never religious but I really needed to do something. That's when I got the idea. I got up from the bed and walked to the door. I looked through the window on the door and when the hallway was empty, I got out of the room.

I looked all over the hospital for Ava until I saw a closed door that said 'DO NOT ENTER SURGERY IN PROGRESS'. Through the window, I saw a bunch of doctors around someone and when they moved away a bit I could see the face of the person. It was Ava!!

Someone took my arm and dragged me away from the door.

'What are you doing here? You are supposed to be in your room until you are called out'

It was my nurse.

'Is she going to be okay?' I asked

'They are removing the shrapnel from her stomach. If they are not disturbed, they will get everything out with no problem. Let's get you to your room'

We were about to step away from the door when an alarm started blaring.

'CODE BLUE IN SURGERY ROOM NUMBER 301. I REPEAT, CODE BLUE IN SURGERY ROOM 301! ALL NURSES AND DOCTORS AROUND STEP INTO THE ROOM'

I looked at the number of the surgery room and I froze.

It read '301'

'Code blue means cardiac arrest... Ava's heart has stopped'

I started to tear up as my nurse ran to the room.

'Please Ava... I was so happy when you found me. You HAVE to survive'

I fell to my knees as more doctors stepped in the room.

I was in a bubble of irreality and I almost didn't feel how someone carried me back to my room and I blacked out.

I woke up with tears in my cheeks and looked around. Ava was now in the bed next to me. She was pale and had bloodstains around her stomach. A nurse was checking her vitals. I heard the machine beeping, it was a bit slower than normal.

'Is she okay? What happened?' I asked the nurse.

'The doctors had just finished stitching her when they touched a major vessel, she started shaking and everything went code blue. Luckily, there were a lot of good doctors and nurses around and after around five rounds of chest compressions and a pair of strokes with the pads her heart started beating again. But she is weak now. She needs to rest now' the nurse finished her job and left.

I got out of bed and delicately hugged Ava. She didn't react... I lifted her shirt a bit to see her wound and saw the stitches. It wasn't big and the stitches looked good. I didn't want to be alone in my bed and Ava's bed was big so I laid next to her holding her hand until I fell asleep.

Ava's POV

I woke up in a hospital bed with a huge pain in my stomach. In the bed on my right, y/n was unconscious. I tried to sit up but the pain in my stomach increased until I couldn't bear it anymore and I laid down again. I lifted my shirt a bit and saw a piece of metal piercing my stomach that had started bleeding because of my movement.

'NURSE!' I screamed before I blacked out.

I woke up in a gurney as doctor and nurses carried me to another part of the hospital. When they arrived, they delicately placed me on the surgery table. They put a mask over my nose and mouth and gave me anesthetic gas until I blacked out again.

When I woke up, y/n was laying next to me holding my hand. She had a worried look on her face. I stroked her hair softly and she woke up.

'You are alright!' She hugged me and started crying.

'Yes. Don't worry. I'm here' I comforted her but winced 'It-it hurts y/n...'

'Oh, I'm so sorry' she let go of me.

'It's okay'

Suddenly we heard a knock in the door.

The door opened and a 30 year old man came in.

'First of all, I'm so sorry for all of this. I was driving the truck and the road was empty so I allowed to distract myself. I heard the squeak of your brakes but it was too late. My truck was big and the airbag went off so I'm fine. I called the ambulance and now I came here to bring you some flowers and wish that you get well soon'

He handed me a bouquet of red roses and I thanked him.

'It's okay. It was an accident' I smiled at him.

'I just didn't want to know that I crashed with Ava Max and didn't even visit her in the hospital. I mean, what would my kids or wife think about me if that happened?' He started to hesitate.

'It's okay, really. You're here now, aren't you?

'Yes...' he sighed before smiling back.

I signed a bunch of autographs for his children and wife and he left. I looked at y/n who was still holding my hand and told her.

'I'm going to be alright. Don't worry'

She sat up and gave me a kiss on the forehead.

'Go to sleep mom. You need sleep'

'She called me mom... I like it. It feels good'

I nodded and closed my eyes. I felt a hand drying a tear and I knew I was crying of happiness. I felt y/n coming into my arms and I fell asleep with the feeling of proximity.

Your POV

Ava's body didn't have a lot of energy because all her system was focused on healing the wound so she slept for five days in a row until her wound was almost closed. I stayed at the hospital and sat or layed next to her so she wasn't alone.

On the fifth day, I was holding her hand and I was almost asleep on my chair when I felt her finger moving. She held my hand tight and opened her eyes. She looked better now. I softly lifted her shirt and saw that her wound was almost closed.

'You have a good immune system' I commented 'I think that you are already able to sit up and you'll walk in a couple of days'

'Thanks mini doctor' said Ava sitting up and kissing my forehead.

Author's note: It would take more than two weeks for that kind of wound to heal but I couldn't wait that much so I wrote that it healed in a week. Just letting you know :)

I went outside to ask for food to the nurse and went back to the room with a tray full of food and a glass of water. Ava ate it all and we watched TV together.

'Why don't you post anything on instagram? You have been out for five days'

'I just don't want my avatars to worry'

'Okay'

In a couple days, the doctor let us go but said that Ava couldn't dance, run or do any efforts until at least next week.
