"you've gotten very close with costar kaitlyn bright, correct?"

"yeah, i have! kaitlyn's amazing. she's probably my best friend right now. we all just met her last year but we can't get enough of her. she's just so genuine and funny and amazing overall, like, um... this is so corny, but she's like a ray of sunshine. always happy. and she's a great silena too. she's actually coming over later, and we're hanging out with leah and aryan tomorrow. oh, god, she's gonna make so much fun of me when she sees this."

"so you'd say she's your favorite person right now, it seems like? anything romantic going on?"

"definitely. no. i mean- no, wait, i mean, definitely she's my favorite person. nothing romantic at all. nope. sorry."

"walker!" kaitlyn practically fell over the doorstep and collapsed into his arms. he staggered back, laughing. 

it was late 2022. kaitlyn's hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, as it so often was those days. walker's face was still babyish, his voice a little squeakier, his hair a little less curly and a little more unkempt. they had met earlier that year and bonded immediately, and they were at each other's houses 24/7.

walker was just starting to realize how his heart skipped a beat every time he heard her name.

"can we just watch a movie today? i'm so tired." walker draped an arm around her shoulders. kaitlyn rested her head on his shoulder easily. he was only a few inches taller than her that winter. "yeah, sure. we can do legos tomorrow." they flopped down on the couch, sitting in the same position they were standing, walker's arm around kaitlyn with her leaning against him. he reached around her for the remote.

about five minutes into the movie (which was, of course, deadpool 2), he coughed and spit out a piece of her hair. "your hair is always in my face."

"well, stop hugging me then." kaitlyn looked up into his eyes, making his cheeks flush. he got better at hiding it later on, although his face never stopped warming when she was close. he'd review these memories later in life and wonder how he'd never fully realized his feelings for her, or how she was never able to tell. "i mean it. if it bothers you, let go right now." she joked.

walker didn't let go.

after a second, he pushed up and reached for her hair. she instinctively grabbed it, thinking he was going to pull it as charlie and aryan so often did.

"relax. i'm gonna braid it so i don't end up swallowing half your hair during the movie." she obliged, letting her hand drop from her head and sliding down so that she was sitting in front of him. walker worked slowly, undoing and redoing it every so often to try to make it look better. 

his fingers brushed the back of her neck lightly, making her skin prickle. when the backs of his fingers lingered the next time, she felt chills down her whole body. her heart started thumping madly in her chest. 

she didn't think walker had ever touched her neck before, not that it was an especially notable place, but she tried to make the butterflies make sense. i'm just not used to his hands there, that's all. 

his fingers brushed behind her ear as he reached for another strand of hair. she felt like that exact spot was going to detonate. just not used to it.

one of his knuckles grazed her jawline as he reached for another strand. just not used to it. she drew in a breath. 

he tied it off at the end. the braid flopped onto her back. he touched her back lightly to let her know that he was done, and her stomach flipped. not used to it.

but his hand is on your back all the time. you're practically glued into a hug 24/7, the annoying, dior-like voice in her head spoke up. shut up.

he turned her head around so he could see how she looked with the finished braid.

"i did a great job." he conceded. when she didn't answer, he tilted his head. "what's wrong?"

"n-nothing. let's just watch the movie." she sat next to him, scooching over so that they were barely touching. but when she got tired, she leaned her head on his shoulder again, and it felt normal, like home. she could deal with random butterflies. it would be fine. she didn't think she'd be able to go without touching her best friend to avoid them, anyways.
