"i'm nervous." walker admitted as they stood in the cramped, dimly lit backstage area.

 "why?" kaitlyn asked.

"these are the big leagues." 

"big leagues? big leagues was the percy jackson premiere. this is literally just comic-con."

"yeah, but people have posted tiktoks of like flying across the country to come here to see me." he adjusted his shirt and cracked his knuckles nervously.

"and not me?" kaitlyn said in mock offense. "not mason?"

he rolled his eyes. "you know what i mean."

"trust me, you could stand up there on stage and say absolutely nothing and you'd still have a million fan edits saying that you're so dark and mysterious. but don't you dare actually do that." she added as a thoughtful look came over walker's face. he laughed. 

"don't worry, i won't."

she faced him and adjusted his collar. "it'll be fine. i promise. you're better at these things than i am."

he looked down at her, at her little gold hoops, dark eyelashes, and long brown hair. she was especially gorgeous today. maybe it would be fine, because with her there, no way anyone would want to look at him. 

she looked up at him, and he swore his heart did a little jump. crazy that that was still happening, he told himself. it had been over six months, and every time he saw her or touched her still felt like the first time.

"please give a warm welcome to walker scobell, kaitlyn bright, and mason thames!" the crowd screamed as they walked onstage. kaitlyn and walker hugged mason, who had walked in from the other side of the stage, and settled down in their chairs, kaitlyn in the middle of the group.

"what do you think about this?" the announcer asked.

"i don't know how to sit." mason joked, crossing one leg over another, uncrossing them, and hugging his knees to his chest before finally sitting normally. walker crossed his legs. kaitlyn crossed one leg over another.

"yeah, i don't know what to do with my hands." walker said, clutching the microphone. he reached over with the other hand and squeezed kaitlyn's.

"ouch. death grip." she said, but squeezed back.

"this is the biggest crowd i've seen all weekend. how does that feel?"

"crazy." mason said, walker nodding in agreement as his grip on kaitlyn's hand tightened. they had been told to reintroduce themselves, so kaitlyn went first to diffuse the tension.

"so, hey everyone, i'm kaitlyn bright-" she cut herself off as screaming from the audience ensued.

"thank you." she laughed, surprised. "i'm fourteen, and i live in socal, but i moved here from utah in sixth grade. i play silena beauregard on percy jackson."

"and you're dating walker scobell!" someone in the audience shouted. everyone laughed.

"yes. that. unfortunately." he released her hand and shoved her shoulder.

"hi, i'm walker scobell-" even louder cheering.

"i just turned fifteen, and i also live in socal. i play, uh, percy jackson on percy jackson-" everyone cheered as mason snorted. "smooth, man."

"yeah, yeah. i also played adam in the adam project and charlie on secret headquarters, but percy jackson is my favorite project by far."

"and you're dating kaitlyn bright!" mason said in a high voice, imitating the girl in the crowd as they roared with laughter.

"oh, shoot, how'd you know?" walker said in mock surprise.

"i'm mason thames, and i was in the black phone. i'm also going to be in the black phone 2 coming out in 2025, so stay tuned for that!" the crowd roared with enthusiasm.

"i've never actually watched the black phone." kaitlyn blurted out. she clapped a hand over her mouth as if to try to shove the words back in. an ounce of walker's nervousness had drifted over to her, and her palms were suddenly sweaty. she remembered how much she actually hated crowds. especially this one, which booed in response.

mason pretended to be outraged, then laughed. "it's fine. you and walker can come over and watch it sometime."

"it's only because i hate scary movies," kaitlyn tried to amend, flustered. "and i mean even remotely scary movies. the castle raid scene in beauty and the beast had me cowering under the blankets at nine years old. coraline had me screaming."

"she also cries during every movie. she was sobbing during both inside outs, titanic, the notebook, barbie, lyle lyle crocodile..."

kaitlyn stifled a laugh as everyone else howled with laughter. her nerves subsided. walker was putting her at ease in the best way - poking gentle fun at her, something she'd always loved. she squeezed his hand as she shook her head indignantly. "hey, the notebook and titanic are totally valid. and barbie. i have no justification for lyle lyle crocodile..."

walkerscobell somebody screamed the whole way through tbp and it wasn't me...
