4: It Should've Been Me

Marcy fell out of her fantasy, tears in her eyes as she hugged herself. She began to cry, burying her face in between her knees. "It's all my fault..."

The Night just floated before shaking his head, clicking his tongue. "Oh, Marcy, Marcy, Marcy. You needed a FANTASY to realize that?"

Marcy suddenly gritted her teeth. "S...STOP."

The Night growled, getting in her face and forcing her to look into his orange eyes. "I DON'T THINK YOU GET THE 'DEAL' WITH THIS WHOLE TORTURE THING, MAR-MAR...I STOP WHEN I WANNA STOP. AND I'M HAVING TOO MUCH FUN."

He then grabbed Marcy by the neck. "Now! Let's enjoy a fantasy I made ESPECIALLY for you."

Marcy flew into the castle on Joe Sparrow, having just saved Sprig from falling to his doom. She honestly couldn't remember what had happened. She remembered Anne going crazy, but she had already hopped out of the window before she could figure anything out.

Sprig immediately hopped off Joe Sparrow and began running. "ANNE! ANNE!!!"

Anne's eyes widened when the little pink frog came running to her. "S-Sprig!? You're alive!!" She immediately hugged him, tears spewing from her eyes as relief washed over her like a tidal wave. "Thank goodness..."

"Marcy caught me just in time!!" Sprig exclaimed.

"Marcy...?" Anne whispered, a little confused. Marcy still wanted to help them get home?

"I have to admit." Andrias said as he stomped over. "Even I'M surprised. Somehow you still got the gift, kid. Which means...I CAN'T LET YOU LIVE."

Marcy didn't have anymore time to think, and she quickly ran over to the music box and ripped it out.

The ship began to stumble and slowly fall out of the sky. Marcy knew what she had to do and tried to open a portal.

Marcy struggled as she opened and closed the box. "Come on, come on!!!" She screamed, trying to keep the glowing portal open.

This was probably the most wild ride she had ever been on. She had dreamed of being a hero, fighting in another world of fantasy and adventure...but this? This was going too far. She realized that now. It was time to go home.

Andrias roared as he smashed the floor. "NO!"

Then? Captain Grime, wielding Barrel's Warhammer and Sasha wielding her red and silver swords. Sasha looked at Anne and The Plantars. "ME AND GRIME WILL HOLD HIM!!! JUST GO!!!"

Anne nodded, beginning to run towards the portal along with her found family.

Marcy quickly ushered them. "QUICK! INTO THE PORTAL, EVERYONE! HURRY!"

Andrias slashed his flame sword, and then smashed the ground with his fist. Grime attempted to hit him with the warhammer, but was swatted away by The Newt King. Sasha lunged at him, but was whipped away by Andrias' tail. "THE BOX!!!!"

"MARCY, HURRY!!!" Anne screamed as she and her family went into the portal. But then? Anne realized something.

Andrias was running at Marcy, at full speed, about to plunge his sword into her chest.

Anne quickly hopped out of the portal and then pushed Marcy out of the way. Marcy screamed as she hit the floor, and then? Anne screamed out even louder...but in AGONY.

The Plantars watched in HORROR, looking at what happened.

Sasha even watched in horror, despite their betrayal. She couldn't believe her eyes.

The sword had went through Anne's chest. Blood began to leak onto her golden chest plate and she began to choke on air.

Andrias grinned as he ripped out the sword, and the power from Anne's body began to return to the box until the blue gem was fully charged.

Anne's body fell onto the ground, lifeless and limp.

Marcy screamed out, practically pushing the Calamity Box away from her and cradling Anne's body. "ANNE!!! ANNE!!!!"

Anne didn't respond. Her eyes were closed, and her body was slowly losing its warmth. Marcy checked her pulse...there wasn't any.

Marcy felt tears began to stream down her face and onto Anne's golden chestplate, which was now covered in BLOOD.

"NO! NO! ANNE!!!" Marcy screamed at the top of her lungs, holding her best friend and crush in her arms until she was practically sobbing. She then screamed even louder, not caring WHO heard her.

"ANNE!!!!!"

Andrias chuckled before grabbing the box from the ground and then setting it back on its pedestal. He didn't even pay attention, nor did he care.

"IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME!!!" Marcy sobbed. "IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME!!!"

"IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME!!!" Marcy sobbed, hugging herself as tears fell from her face and into the endless void she floated on. She didn't even realize she was out of the fantasy.

The Night grinned. "Still process-"

"I-It should've been me..." Marcy whispered.

The Night's eyes widened. Marcy was thinking what he had made her see...was real! She forgot about what really happened!

And with that? The Night to HOWL with laughter.

Marcy looked up at The Night. "Y...YOU'RE LAUGHING!?!?!"

"IT SHOULD'VE BEEN YOU, HUH!? YOU ABSOLUTE FOOL! IT WAS YOU!!!"
