CHAPTER THIRTEEN, a rebel for the day
"Wait, you almost had sex with Cole?" Areli gasps. The next day at lunch Hollyn confessed to her friends from art club about what happened when she went camping with Cole. "Girl, when I suggested that you have sex with him to help cheer him up I didn't think you would actually go through with it."
Hollyn's face burns at that and she kicks Areli's shin under the table. "We just almost kissed! I never said anything about that." She hissed.
"But, you wanted to." Areli retorts, ignoring the small pain she felt when Hollyn kicked her shin and grins at noticing Hollyn's face was bright red. "See? You're not denying it either."
"Leave her alone, Ari." Elliot speaks up, frowning at her. "Don't tease her about it. She's embarrassed enough as it is."
"I'm just saying, this is great! You're finally making progress." Areli points out, her lips curving up. "I'm so proud of you."
"Proud of me? For what?" Hollyn scoffs, rolling her eyes. "There's nothing to be proud of. Nothing happened. It was just a heat of the moment thing. It was just a mistake."
"You don't actually believe that, do you?" Areli asked, frowning at her.
"I have to or else I'll drive myself crazy." Hollyn mumbles, looking down. She picks at her food, feeling her heart ache. "Look, can we just drop it? I'm over it."
"Are you really though?" Elsie asked, arching a brow at her. She could tell that Hollyn's words didn't quite match her demeanor. Hollyn's avoidance of eye contact and her fidgeting gave away her true feelings.
"I am." Hollyn insisted as she nodded.
Her friends stare at her, not believing her for a second. "You've always been a horrible liar." Lachlan muses, a knowing smirk on his face. "Come on, Holl. You can't hide anything from us."
"Lachy's right. Just be honest with yourself. You're not over it, and that's okay." Lillian assures her from her place sitting beside Hollyn's right side. She smiles at her and nudges her gently with her shoulder. "Just admit it."
"Fine, I'm not over it." Hollyn sighs in defeat, knowing she couldn't lie to her friends. "But, it doesn't matter. He's with Erin and he has no intention of breaking up with her anytime soon."
"Plus he's with any other random girl he chooses to sleep with." Kira chimes in, grimacing at the looks her friends gave her as Hollyn stayed quiet, picking at her food. "What? I'm just saying." She defends, holding her hands up. "It's true."
"Kira's right. That's another thing that pisses me off. I hate that he's constantly sleeping with random girls." Hollyn agrees with a frown. "I know he and Erin has an odd deal going on, but he can do so much better than her or any other girl he sleeps with. I don't get it. Why is he wasting his time and energy on meaningless hook-ups?"
"He's a boy. Boys are dumb." Lillian shrugs. "They can't help themselves. They're ruled by their hormones. It's disgusting."
"Preach it." Elsie agreed, raising her hand for a high five. Lillian laughed and raised her hand to high five her.
Lachlan and Elliot shares a look. "Okay, speaking as the only two guys in this group, not all of us are ruled by our hormones." Elliot states, sounding offended. "Some of us can control ourselves. And not all of us are dumb. We're just...Oblivious sometimes." He added with a shrug.
"Yeah, that's true." Lachlan nodded in agreement.
"Whatever. You guys are still a pain." Lillian rolls her eyes. "Hollyn, what are you gonna do?" She asked, turning her attention back to Hollyn.
"Keep doing what we've been doing. Pretending nothing happened. Cole's still with Erin, and I'm still single." Hollyn shrugs. "That's how it is. That's how it'll always be." She sighs, pushing her tray away. She suddenly wasn't hungry anymore. "I'm gonna go study in the library before class starts. I'll see you guys later." She mumbled, getting up from her seat. She grabbed her backpack and slung it over her shoulder before grabbing her tray and disposing of it. She waved her friends goodbye and headed out, disappearing into the crowded hallway.
****
When it was time for class, Hollyn had to walk outside to get to her next class. She didn't mind it. It gave her a chance to be outside. She always enjoyed being outdoors. It was peaceful and quiet, unlike the noisy and crowded school hallways. As she was walking through the courtyard, she heard footsteps behind her.
"Hollyn, wait up!" Hollyn stops in her tracks, recognizing the voice immediately. She turns around, her eyebrows arching when she saw Cole catching up to her. When he got to her, he pants as he caught his breath. "I hate how much harder it is to run with his leg now." He muttered, frowning.
"Yeah, I bet." Hollyn frowns, looking at him with concern. She then tilts her head to the side, furrowing her eyebrows. "What's up, Coley?"
After straightening up and recomposing himself, he grins at her. "You wanna ditch the rest of school?" He asked.
Hollyn blinks, staring at him with surprise. She hadn't expected him to say that. She stared at him, waiting for him to laugh and say he was just joking. But, he never did. "Um, what?"
"You heard me." Cole smirks as he nods. "Ditch. Skip. Leave early. What do you say, Holly Berry? Wanna be a rebel with me today?"
Hollyn's cheeks flush and she looks down, trying to ignore the fluttering in her stomach. "W-Why do you want to skip? What about detention?"
"Psh, that's the least of my concerns." Cole scoffs, waving his hand dismissively. "Besides, we're gonna go somewhere fun. Dylan has a lake house and a lot of our classmates are planning to go hang out." Cole explains. He sighs when she doesn't say anything. "It just looked like today was the kind of day you needed to get away to escape reality for a little while. I thought maybe it would cheer you up. I'm not trying to pressure you, you can say no." He then quickly adds, "Though I would love it if you came."
"Oh, uh..." Hollyn hesitated, chewing on her bottom lip as she looked around nervously. She had to admit, it would be nice to have a break from the stress of school and her feelings for Cole. And spending time with him outside of the usual school setting sounded appealing, despite the complicated emotions it might bring up.
"Come on, Holls. Live a little. You've been a goody two shoes all your life. You deserve to have a little fun and take a break from the stress of school and anything else that's bothering you." Cole presses, giving her puppy dog eyes. "Please?"
"Not the puppy dog eyes." Hollyn complains when she saw him pouting. He knew her weakness and she hated it. "Cole, you know I can't resist those." She groans as she gave in, shaking her head with a chuckle. "Fine, fine. I'll go with you. But only because I can't resist those d**n puppy dog eyes of yours."
"Yes!" Cole cheers, pumping his fist in the air. "You won't regret it, I promise. It's gonna be so much fun."
"Yeah, we'll see about that." Hollyn grins, rolling her eyes playfully. "Let's go, rebel. Lead the way."
Cole grinned back at her and grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers as he started leading her away from the school to his car. Hollyn felt her heart skip a beat at the touch, and she couldn't help but smile. Maybe this day wouldn't be so bad after all.
****
When they got to the lake house and parked the car, Hollyn closes the door to the car behind her, watching the others get out and grab their things. Her heart dropped as she saw Erin amongst the group. "Just great." She sighs. "This won't be awkward at all." She mumbled sarcastically. She really wasn't in the mood to deal with Erin. She was not looking forward to having to watch her flirt with and make out with Cole.
"It'll be fine, Holly Berry. Don't worry about her." Cole reassures her as he walked over to her. "Just ignore her and try to have fun, okay? I'll make sure she leaves you alone." He promised.
Hollyn nods, smiling slightly. "Okay. Thanks, Coley." She mumbled. She wasn't convinced that this would be fine, but she tried to not think about it.
Cole smiles back at her. "No problem."
As they follow the others, Hollyn quickly realized she should've brought her jacket. It was a lot colder by the lake than she expected. She hugged her arms to herself, shivering a bit. She cursed under her breath and looked around, trying to see if anyone else was cold. Everyone seemed fine, though. They were laughing and joking around. No one else seemed bothered by the cold weather. Of course. She was the only one who was freezing
.She felt a heavy weight on her shoulders and turned her head, realizing it was Cole's jacket. He was now only wearing a t-shirt and jeans. He wasn't even shivering. "Cole, no, you're gonna get cold. You don't have to-"
"I'm not cold. Besides, you're the one who's freezing." Cole chuckles. "And as your best friend, I'm obligated to make sure you don't freeze." He told her as he playfully nudged her with his shoulder.
Hollyn's cheeks burn, and she's thankful for the cool breeze so her best friend doesn't notice. "Well, thank you." She mumbles, pulling the jacket tighter around her. "I appreciate it." She slipped her arms through the sleeves and pulled it closed, the warmth immediately surrounding her. It smelled like him. A mixture of his cologne and his natural scent. She noticed out of the corner of her eye Erin giving her a dirty look. Hollyn resisted the urge to flip her off and instead smiled to herself, enjoying the warmth and Cole's scent.
"Didn't realize this would be a Hollyn centered day today." Erin scoffs as she walked past them with Olivia. "How did I get so lucky?" She said sarcastically, purposefully bumping her shoulder into Hollyn's, causing her to stumble back a bit since she wasn't expecting it.
"Watch it, Erin." Cole warns, narrowing his eyes at her. "That wasn't necessary. What's your problem?"
"Nothing, it was an accident." Erin rolls her eyes, giving him a fake smile. "Geez, calm down. You're no fun." She complained, rolling her eyes as she walked ahead with Olivia.
Cole sighs and shakes his head, glancing at Hollyn as his gaze softens. "You okay?" He asked her.
"Fine." Hollyn sighs, giving him a small smile. "I'm used to it by now." She mumbled with a shrug.
Cole frowns. "She's been like this to you since elementary school. I tried to get her to be civil with you, but it's impossible." He murmurs, shaking his head. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault. It's not like you could do anything about it." Hollyn tells him. She smiles sadly at him, not wanting him to blame himself. "But I appreciate you standing up for me."
Cole nods and drapes his arm over her shoulder. "Of course, you're my best friend. I'll always have your back."
"And I'll have yours." Hollyn smiled back at him, ignoring the butterflies in her stomach as she leaned into his warm embrace.
****
Hollyn now sat at one of the chairs surrounding the fire pit that's near the lake. She had been talking with Danny, Cole's twin - she will never get over the fact that they're twins - who came with them as well. She had always loved spending time with Danny. They had a lot in common, both loving theater and art. Plus, Danny was sweet and funny. Hollyn had always been happy to consider him a close friend. He was a lot easier to get along with than Erin and Cole's other friends who were here. Hollyn had noticed Areli and Lachlan had joined them which made her happy to know some of her other friends were there too.
Hollyn looks away from Danny to Olivia when she came over to the group, holding a tray of shots. "Shots?" She offered with a smile.
Erin scoffs. "Oh, come on, Olivia. She'd never."
Hollyn narrowed her eyes at her, knowing Erin was trying to get under her skin. It was working. She hated being called out in front of everyone. She could feel herself tense, her shoulders squaring as she felt everyone's gazes on her. There was still chatter among the others, but Hollyn was sure they were curious about what was going on.
"Shut up, Erin." Areli hissed, giving her a nasty glare. She wasn't going to let her get away with trying to make Hollyn uncomfortable.
Erin just rolls her eyes and shakes her head. "What? I'm just saying the truth. She's too much of a good girl to take a shot or drink any other alcohol. I'm surprised she's even here right now."
Hollyn frowns and glares at her, feeling her face grow hot. She wasn't embarrassed or ashamed that she didn't drink. She didn't mind if people knew she didn't like to drink. However, it pissed her off when people made her out to be the innocent, perfect, prissy little girl that couldn't do anything wrong. She hated it when people underestimated her and didn't give her a chance to prove herself. And, even worse, Erin was doing it in front of the group. "Shut up, Erin." She grabbed a shot and gulped it down, her face twisting at the bitter taste.
Everyone else laughed, amused by the scene before them. They didn't know why Erin and Hollyn didn't get along, but they thought it was entertaining, to say the least. Erin raises an eyebrow, her smirk fading. She wasn't expecting her to actually do it. "Well, well, well. The perfect, prissy Hollyn can be a rebel. I never thought I'd see the day." She snickered.
Cole rolls his eyes at her and glances over at Hollyn, concern shining in his eyes. He had to admit he was surprised she took her first shot...And she did it pretty well too. He had expected her to gag and spit it out. He could tell her eyes were watering, and her nose was scrunched up, but she held it in. "Are you okay, Hollyn?"
Hollyn nods, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hands. She was definitely not a fan of the bitter taste, and her throat felt a little raw from how strong it was. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine."
"Your first shot!" Areli beams. "I'm so proud of you. You did good, Hollyn." She grinned at her.
"D**n, she actually did it." Dylan gasped with a smirk.
"Holy s**t. Who are you?" Danny said with surprise.
"Someone who needed a shot." Hollyn sighs, shaking her head. She glances at Erin, raising an eyebrow when she saw her scowling at her. "Is there a problem, Erin?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. She could see the jealousy and annoyance in her eyes.
Erin shakes her head, putting on a fake smile. "No. Not at all. Just wondering when you were going to get tired of the whole goody two shoes thing and actually grow a pair. Good for you." She said, her words dripping with sarcasm.
Hollyn rolls her eyes and grabs another shot. "Here, have a shot with me. To celebrate." She held the shot out to her, giving her a smug look. She could tell she was getting under Erin's skin, and she couldn't deny that it felt good. She thought it as payback for the many times Erin had tried to make her feel small or embarrassed in front of others.
Erin's jaw tenses and her fists clench. It takes everything in her not to smack the glass out of Hollyn's hand. "Fine." She grabbed the glass and swallowed it in one go, slamming the glass down onto the table.
Cole watched the interaction between the two, his eyes narrowing. He didn't like this one bit. He could tell Erin was getting upset. And Hollyn, despite not showing it, was also upset. He hated seeing them bicker. It had been going on for a long time, and he wanted it to stop. "Holly Berry, don't drink too much." Cole chuckles as he shook his head. "This is your first time drinking, and you're already taking another shot. Don't push yourself."
Hollyn shrugs, giving him a small smile. "Maybe this is exactly what I need." She mumbled, swallowing the shot as she scrunched up her face at the taste. She didn't know if she would ever get used to the bitter taste.
"Alright," Dylan speaks up after tossing his empty beer can down. "Who wants to go skinny dipping with me?"
"Dylan, it's like, forty degrees out there, man." Danny pointed out.
"Then I guess I'll need somebody to keep me warm." Dylan grinned, taking his letterman jacket off.
"Yeah, and somebody to build you a fire so you don't get hypothermia." Danny remarked.
Ruby stands and began to get undressed, grinning at Dylan. "I'm down if you go first."
"Perfect." Dylan grinned back at her, tossing his hoodie off. Hollyn grimaced at seeing the number on the jersey he wore. Number 19. It was Cole's number when he was quarterback. She glanced at Cole, who had a blank expression but she could see the pain in his eyes. It still hurt him, despite everything that had happened.
Dylan finally realizes why everyone was looking at him and he apologetically glances at Cole. "Hey, man. It's not the NFL. You know, we don't retire numbers and since I took your spot-"
"It's fine." Cole interrupts him, standing up. "It's not like I'm on the team anymore, right?"
"Exactly." Dylan replied though he still looked a bit guilty.
"Danny's right, one fire coming up." Cole turned and walked away. Hollyn watched him leave, her heart aching for him. She knew he was hurting. She understood why. Being on the football team was his whole life. Football was everything to him. So when he got injured, he couldn't play anymore. He wasn't the same. Hollyn sighed and shook her head, taking another shot. She had a feeling night was going to get even more complicated than she initially thought.
****
After a while later, Hollyn was inside the lake house, getting herself another drink. She decided to try a bottle of whiskey this time, but she was having trouble getting the cap off. She grunted as she tried to unscrew the cap. She had been holding the bottle by the neck and was now struggling with opening the bottle. "D**n, why does this have to be so d**n hard?!" She grumbled. She had quickly realized she cursed a lot more when she was drinking. She rarely cursed when she was sober.
"Need some help?"
Hollyn jumps at the sudden voice, turning to look behind her and saw Erin entering the room. Hollyn looks at her with surprise, not expecting her to come in and offer help. She didn't think Erin would even talk to her without trying to get under her skin or insult her. She narrows her eyes at Erin, who walked over to her with her empty cup. "What are you doing?"
"Offering you some help. Obviously." Erin replies with a slight eyeroll. "You looked like you were having trouble with that bottle. Figured I could be of assistance."
Hollyn was still suspicious of Erin's sudden act of kindness. This was the first time since they were little kids that she's heard Erin speak to her without insulting her or being passive-aggressive. She could see the irritation on her face, but she knew that she was trying her best not to make a nasty remark. She didn't understand why. "What do you want?" She asked.
Erin raises an eyebrow at her. "Can't a person offer help to another person without them being suspicious? Seriously, Hollyn, I don't always have bad intentions."
"Well, usually you do with me." Hollyn retorts, still not trusting her. "Why are you helping me? We hate each other. This is weird."
"Well..." Erin is silent before she sighs heavily. "Maybe I miss hanging out with you...." She mumbled reluctantly, her cheeks flushing pink.
Hollyn blinks a few times, not sure if she had heard her correctly. "What?"
"Don't make me say it again." Erin groaned, covering her face with her hands.
"We haven't hung out since elementary school. You've hated me since then." Hollyn reminds her, giving her a puzzled look. "Which I still don't understand why 'cause you left me for your new best friend Olivia." She said bitterly.
She and Erin were close growing up, they were practically attached at the hip. Then when Erin met Olivia in third grade, Hollyn kept feeling left out and they started drifting apart. They stopped being friends and it only got worse in high school when Erin decided to start picking on Hollyn. Hollyn had tried to talk to Erin and even tried being friends with Olivia too, hoping she could get her friend back somehow. But Erin's popularity had rose as they got into middle school and high school and Hollyn couldn't keep up with her. She felt left out and eventually stopped trying, figuring she could never get her friend back. Plus she didn't want Erin back as her friend after seeing how popularity changed her and how mean and cruel she could be.
Erin looks away from her, her cheeks flushing with shame. "I was stupid. I should've never stopped talking to you. I regret that. I'm sorry, Hollyn. I've always missed you."
Hollyn is quiet, not sure what to say. She wasn't sure if she should forgive Erin. She had been so horrible to her and her friends. And she wasn't sure if Erin was drunk or sober. But seeing how sincere and guilty she looked, she could tell Erin really meant her apology. Maybe they could fix things. "I've always missed you too." She admits, looking down at her cup. "You were my best friend. But you ditched me for some reason and then you became a total b*tch to me." She mumbled.
Erin winces at her words. She knows they're true, but it still hurts to hear them. "I'm sorry, Hollyn." She says, looking her in the eyes. "I can't change the past, but I can try to fix things now. If you'll let me. I promise I'll be better. I may be a little tipsy, but I'm serious."
Hollyn looks up at her, her eyes searching her face. Erin did look sincere, and her gaze was full of remorse. She seemed so genuine. Hollyn bites her lip, not sure what to do. She really missed her friendship with Erin, but she was hesitant about fixing things between them. She didn't want to be left behind again. But, deep down, she really did miss her best friend. Maybe it would be different this time around. "Okay, I'm willing to give you a second chance. I just...Don't want to get hurt again."
Erin nods eagerly, her eyes shining with gratitude. "I understand, Hollyn. I won't let you down, I promise." She reaches out and gives Hollyn's hand a gentle squeeze. "Thank you for giving me another chance."
Hollyn returns the squeeze, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "You're welcome, Erin. Let's try to put the past behind us and start fresh, okay?"
Erin smiles back, relief evident in her expression. "Sounds like a plan." She glances at the bottle in Hollyn's hand. "Now, let's get that cap off so we can have some drinks and catch up properly."
Hollyn chuckled and nodded, feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders. Maybe things were finally looking up. She hands the bottle to Erin, and together they manage to open it. As they pour themselves drinks and settle down to chat, Hollyn couldn't help but feel hopeful about the future of their friendship.
"I would greatly appreciate some help. I've been trying to get this d**n thing off for the past ten minutes." She grumbled.
Erin looks up at Hollyn, who was struggling to unscrew the cap of the bottle. Her brows were furrowed in concentration, and she had a scowl on her face. It was clear that she was frustrated, and Erin couldn't help but find it amusing. Erin chuckles. "Here, let me try." She says, reaching out for the bottle. Hollyn hands it to her, and Erin takes it, examining the lid. "You know, they have a bottle opener here, right?" She teased.
"Shut up." Hollyn rolls her eyes. "Just open the d**n bottle, please." She muttered, watching as Erin opened a drawer and pulled out a bottle opener.
"You're welcome." Erin grinned, using the bottle opener to twist the cap off.
"Finally." Hollyn huffs and grabs the bottle from her. "Thanks." She poured some of the whiskey into her cup, glancing at it curiously. She never had whiskey before. She could smell the strong aroma and winced. It definitely smelled like alcohol. She didn't know if she was going to like the taste. She definitely didn't like beer - despite drinking a whole can, and she still wasn't a fan of whatever kind of shots she had. But maybe whiskey would be different.
"Are you going to take a drink or are you just going to stare at it all night?" Erin asked, raising an eyebrow.
Hollyn rolls her eyes and takes a swig of the whiskey. She gags at the taste, her face contorting into disgust. "This is gross. Why do people like this?" She complained.
"Because it's an acquired taste. You get used to it." Erin chuckles, taking a sip of her own drink. "Just like beer."
"I don't think I'll ever get used to this." Hollyn muttered, taking another drink, grimacing at the taste.
"If it helps, there's a lot of fruity drinks you can try. Like, uh...A strawberry daiquiri or something." Erin suggested.
Hollyn perks up at the idea, her interest piqued. "Oh, yeah. That sounds much better than this. How do you make it?" She couldn't believe she was here, at Dylan's lake house, skipping school and talking about alcohol with Erin. What a day.
"Well, you need some rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and of course, strawberries." Erin started explaining the ingredients and the process of making a strawberry daiquiri as Hollyn listened intently, nodding along. Despite their rocky history, it felt nice to have a conversation with Erin that didn't involve insults or passive-aggressive remarks. Maybe they could actually be friends again.
****
With Erin's help, Hollyn made herself a strawberry daiquiri, which was way better than the whiskey. She could still taste the alcohol, but it was much less noticeable than the other drinks. She couldn't deny that the daiquiri was pretty good, and it helped ease the bitterness of the whiskey.
"So, what are your plans for college?" Erin asked, sipping her drink. The two girls were now sat in the living room in the lake house, having a light-hearted conversation. It was almost as if they were back in elementary school, just two best friends chatting and enjoying each other's company.
"Oh, uh, I haven't really decided yet. I'm still figuring it out." Hollyn answers honestly. She had thought about what she wanted to do, but she hadn't settled on anything. "What about you?"
"I don't know, honestly." Erin mumbles, looking at her drink and stirring the ice cubes with her straw. "I've been set on going to college on a track scholarship, but...I think my mom is more into track now than I am."
Hollyn is surprised to hear this. She had always known Erin was athletic, Erin loved track when they were younger, and she was very good at it. She didn't understand how her mother was more into track than Erin was. "Really?"
"Yeah, my mom has been pushing me to pursue track more seriously." She rolls her eyes. "Just because she's the track coach. It's like, she can't separate her work life from her personal life. It's annoying."
Hollyn could tell by her tone that Erin wasn't happy with the situation, and she could see the frustration on her face. "I'm sorry, Erin. That must be hard."
Erin shrugs. "It is what it is. I guess I'll have to figure out what I really want to do. I have time, so I'll make a decision eventually."
"Well, whatever you decide to do, I'm sure you'll be great at it." Hollyn offered her a supportive smile, not really sure what else to say. She's then surprised by the nickname Erin suddenly called her, one that she hadn't called her since they were younger. It was from one of their favorite movies growing up 'Strawberry Shortcake' and Hollyn couldn't help but grin. She didn't realize how much she missed the silly nickname.
Erin returned the smile, a hint of pink on her cheeks. "Thanks, Shortcake."
Hollyn couldn't help but grin. She didn't realize how much she missed the silly nickname. "You remember."
"Of course I do." Erin chuckles, a reminiscent look in her eyes. "We watched all the movies and played with the toys. You even dressed up as Strawberry Shortcake for Halloween once."
"Yeah, I did." Hollyn laughs as she remembers that. "We were six, I think. You dressed up as Rainbow Sherbert." She recalled.
Erin snickers. "I did. I remember you loved her purple hair." She grins. "Didn't you try dying your hair that color with a magic marker?"
Hollyn's face burns at that when she remembered doing that. "Yes, and my mom was so mad. She thought I had stained my hair permanently purple." She chuckles, shaking her head at the memory. "I guess I always did have a bit of a wild side."
Erin laughs, the sound light and genuine. "Yeah, you did. But it was always fun. Those were good times."
Hollyn nods, feeling a sense of nostalgia wash over her. Despite everything that had happened between them, she couldn't deny that she missed their friendship. "Yeah, they were."
The two girls lapse into a comfortable silence, sipping their drinks and enjoying each other's company. It was a strange feeling, but Hollyn couldn't help but feel hopeful about the future. Maybe they could rebuild their friendship and put the past behind them. Maybe they could be like they used to be, laughing and joking like old times.
As the night wore on, Hollyn found herself opening up to Erin more and more, sharing stories and memories from their childhood. It felt good to reminisce, and she was grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with her old friend. Eventually the two parted ways, Erin went to go back to the others while Hollyn got herself another drink. She was definitely a little more than buzzed now, but she didn't care. She was having a good time, and she was glad to be able to spend time with Erin again.
A/N anyone see that coming with erin & hollyn reconnecting? gotta love a little plot twist :)
