Chapter 8: Captured 6-5-16

Chapter By: Merry

Three monstrous heads popped into the hole in the ground were Merry was. It made him jump a little and shiver. It was also getting cool out and it looked like it might rain. He recognized the tan, wrinkled skin, scrunched nose, small eyes, and enormous head of the trolls.
They were all naked besides a brown loin cloth around their waists. All Merry could do was watch and listen to them frightened for his life.

"We have so much food at the cave; let's leave it here until we need it. Let it rot. Then we don't have to cook it!" the smallest troll growled. He wasn't even small, but compared to the other ones he was.

"Wait a minute," said another troll in a very deep booming voice. It had one good eye and one completely white eye, which was creepy. Then the troll started talking again in his booming voice, "It looks like that creature that our great, great, great..."

"Forget the greats Ben!" said the small troll and punched the creepy eyed troll in the arm.

The troll growled at the small troll and then continued, "Great grandpa ran into a long time ago. Didn't he run into a creature like this thing?"

"Yah, no troll has ever eaten this kind before. What's it called again?" The small troll asked licking his big lips.

They all looked down to Merry and asked,

"What are you?"

"A H-Hobbit," Merry squeaked.

"That's it! We could get revenge by eaten it!" The troll that hadn't spoken yet said. He was the largest and looked the strongest, his arms where really bulky and muscular.

The other trolls seemed to agree and started trying to grab Merry. He jumped over and ducked under reaching hands as the trolls got more and more upset yelling,

"Stop!" and "Slow down!" and "It's too fast!" and then finally,

"I got it!"

The troll with the white eye had trapped him in a corner and then grabbed him. Merry squirmed and bit the troll's hand, but it didn't affect him. Merry spat the taste of the troll out of his mouth.

Merry: When I bit that troll it was the most disgusting thing my mouth has ever tasted. Disgusting!

Pippin: I've tasted something pretty gross once too. It was a type of nut called a Macadamia.

The white eyed troll brought Merry to his face and asked,

"Are there any more of you running around where you shouldn't? Lurking in the shadows?"

Then only thing Merry could move was his head, so he shook it, meaning "no".

"He's lying," spat the short troll scowling at Merry.

The sun started rising and shining through the trees slowly.

"Back to the cave!" the troll holding Merry shouted.

The trolls started running back to their cave as fast as they could. Merry didn't know which way was up or down after a while. Once they got back to the cave, the trolls slowed into a walk and Merry could see where they were. He saw a big cave and around the cave there was a giant fire pit and fences in shapes of squares. There were two of them and thankfully there was nothing in them, but Merry would probably be the first of the day.

In the cave it smelt horrible and there were odds and ends everywhere. Like metals to raw meats chopped up. The smaller troll rolled a boulder in front of the cave entrance leaving the cave in pure darkness. Now Merry couldn't see anything and began to panic. The troll held him tightly making it so Merry couldn't move.

A moment later one torch was lit in the cave and the grip around Merry loosened and he quickly dropped to the dirt ground below. Merry got to his legs quickly and backed up to a wall. The trolls all grinned at him suspiciously.

"We trolls sleep durin day, but tonight you will be gone in our bellies," the biggest troll said to Merry and laughed.

"Now don't do anything funny, because you can't escape," said the white eyed troll and pointed his stubby finger into Merry's chest; his heart beating very fast.

The troll took his finger off Merry when he was done talking and leaned against the wall along with the other trolls to sleep. Merry looked around one more time, but knew he couldn't escape. He sat in one of the corners of the room and covered his nose away from the horrible smell of the gross cave.

Merry knew he couldn't fall asleep because he wanted to stay up and be alert to whatever happened, but sleep eventually took him and Merry hoped Boromir would keep his promise about saving him.

A/N: When Pippin made his comment about disliking the taste of a Macadamia nut...

Random Fact: Billy Boyd (Pippin) in real life hates that kind of nut, lol! i had to put that in there. :-D
