Zarya vs Heavy
Requested by Robber_Slash
Team Fortress 2 vs Overwatch, Russian vs Russian, Tank vs Tank, Particle Cannon vs Sasha, when two minigun wielding Russians battles it out on the battle field, only one will survive this deadly game of Russian Roulette.
<Cue: Invader Theme>
Toomi: Zarya, the heavy shooter and possibly the strongest woman from Overwatch.
Megumi: And Heavy, the Russian minigun wielder from Team Fortress.
Toomi: Multiplayer shooting games tend to have lots of guns, whether it be a handgun to a shotgun, a machine gun or even a minigun.
Megumi: And who's better to use them than these two hailing from Mother Russia? She's Sachi, Toomi and I'm Megumi.
Sachi: And it's our job to analyse their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle
Zarya Graviton Surge into What if Battles
<Cue: СРАЗУ ВЫСОКО by Erika Lundmoen
Toomi: Aleksandra was born in Novanskoye a remote Siberian village that was on the front lines of the Omnic Crisis.
Megumi: Although Russian forces defeated the omnics and shut down their omnium, the region was devastated by the conflict, and her father was killed in the war.
Sachi: Only a child at the time, Aleksandra was surrounded by the post-war destruction, and as she grew older, she swore that she would gain the strength to help her people recover.
Toomi: Focusing on weightlifting and bodybuilding, Aleksandra was identified by the national athletics program as a potential star. She trained extensively, moving up the ranks while representing her country, and was expected to shatter longstanding records in the upcoming world championships.
Megumi: But on the eve of the tournament, an attack came from the long-dormant Siberian omnium, and her village was thrust into war once again.
Sachi: Aleksandra immediately withdrew from the competition and rushed home to enlist in the local defense forces, sacrificing the life of fame and fortune she might have had.
Toomi: Now a soldier in the Russian Defense Forces, Zarya was deployed to the Krasnoyarsk front in Siberia, the same front where her father had been killed holding the line against the omnics
Megumi: But in order to do that, she's gonna need more than muscles.
Toomi: Exactly, while her muscles are certainly good for strength, she uses her trusty weapon, the Particle Cannon, when held down, shoots out a hitscan beam that deals continuous damage to the first enemy it hits.
Sachi: The secondary fire consumes more ammunition and shoots out a grenade-like ball of energy that detonates when it hits an enemy or solid surface, dealing damage in an area. This detonation will damage Zarya; the damage will be negated by Particle Barrier, but does not return any Energy.
Megumi: Then there is Projected Barrier where when activated, Zarya grants the targeted ally a barrier that will completely surround them for a brief period of time, absorbing a large amount of damage and making them immune to all negative effects (such as knockback or stun) while the barrier holds.
Zarya
Superhuman Physical Characteristics

Energy Projection

Forcefield Creation
Gravity Manipulation
Graviton Surge
Particle Cannon
Particle Barrier
Projected Barrier
Toomi: And Zarya's Ultimate Ability, Graviton Surge, which when activated, Zarya fires an energy projectile in an arc. When the projectile impacts a solid surface, it creates a temporary gravity well that continually pulls in all nearby enemies and deals damage over time to them. Movement abilities are disabled within the effect of Graviton Surge.
Sachi: The projectile from Graviton Surge is destroyed if it hits an enemy Zarya's barrier or D.Va's Defense Matrix, but if it hits Winston's or Reinhardt's barrier it will simply activate where struck. It is still not a good idea to fire it at those places, as they will lessen or negate your team's ability to combo with it. The projectile can also be deflected by Genji before it lands on a surface, effectively turning it against Zarya's team instead.
Megumi: Although Graviton Surge is not a devastating Ultimate on its own, it is easily the most powerful Ultimate in the game when coordinated with other Ultimates.
Toomi: Interesting note, Zarya's particle cannon was ripped from the hull of an armored vehicle during battle, and is too heavy for most soldiers to carry. Her gloves conduct and amplify the energy flowing through it
Sachi: Being an athlete in her day, she was pretty good at it, which had it not been for the war, Zarya would have shattered world records and even become a worldwide champion. And fun fact, according to Micheal Chu, she would beat Brigitte in an arm wrestling match.
Toomi: It's also worth noting that the tattoos on Zarya are not for show, but to showcase her weightlifting records, two of her sprays depict a 512kg set of weights. This is a higher record than any woman's set in the Olympics to date, though not the highest ever recorded
Sachi: Between 29-30 July 2022, Walcott was recognized at the 2022 World Raw Powerlifting Federation American Pro in Manassas, Virginia, US, for the heaviest cumulative lift for bench/squat and press in competition (female) after lifting a total of 737.5 kg (1,620.4 lb) across three compound lifts so while Zarya hasn't reach that level yet, for her time, she was considered to be quite strong for a woman but is still developing to probably surpass even that record
Megumi: Which she could have if it wasn't for war. But she was a good soldier nonetheless, having destroyed many many Omnics during the war.
Feats
Rose up the ranks in weightlifting
Lifted 512 kg weights
Fought during the Omnic war
Defeated Sombra
Saved Lynx
Achieved rank of Sergeant within the RDF
Destroyed hundreds of Omnics
Destroyed a Bastion Unit
Particle Barrier is good to use against a Reaper and Junkrat
Toomi: Zarya's Graviton Surge is one of the trickiest Ultimates in the game to use correctly, but is devastating when deployed at the right time. When combined with an Ultimate like Reaper's Death Blossom or Pharah's Barrage, you can easily wipe out entire enemy teams in a single blow.
Megumi: It was even powerful enough to defeat Sombra in a fight
Toomi: However, Graviton Surge is also one of the slowest-charging Ultimates of any hero, making proper use of it critical. And using it when none of your allies have their Ultimates will usually result in only one or two kills at the most, or possibly even no kills if the enemy team has a Reinhardt blocking most of the damage.
Sachi: And Particle Barrier does not protect Zarya from knockbacks from attacks that can pierce barriers, like Rocket punch Rocket Punch or Ability Charge.
Weakness
Arrogant
Must absorb damage with her Particle Barriers to charge her Particle Cannon to optimal levels
Softest of the tanks
When played poorly, Zarya contributes only average damage, mild absorption with her barriers, and her Ultimate
Graviton Surge is one of the trickiest Ultimates to use
Ultimate takes a long time to charge
Toomi: It's also worth noting that Zarya is the softest of the tanks, with the lowest base Health out of them (save for Orisa), no movement abilities, and only an infrequent, short-duration barrier to protect her and her team which makes her heavily reliant on her team to harge up her Energy, provide cover/healing when she is out of position, and coordinate with her ultimate.
Sachi: And her projected barrier can reveal the location of a Stealthed Sombra which is something players should avoid when playing as her.
Megumi: Serving as a soldier, Zarya became a symbol to some, a stalwart fellow soldier to others. But for Zarya, it was a chance to use her great strength to protect the ones she loved
Zarya: Together we are strong.
Heavy Showdowns into What if Battles
<Cue: 5'O Clock in the Morning by Village People>
Toomi: It was 1850, Zepheniah just have contracted many diseases and in his will that the land he own will be split in halve to give to the brothers.
Megumi: But instead of working together, the brothers fight over for the land for their rest of their lives with each side hiring mercenaries for each of their sides.
Sachi: They're the scout, a fast mercenary that use his speed to hit and run at his enemies, the sniper that can kill people at far distances, and the medic that heal his teammates when they have low health.
Megumi: And there the slow but powerful mercenary called Heavy!
Toomi: Heavy or better known as Mikael was born U.S.S.R with his father was a counter revolutionary during the Russian revolutions who was quickly executed with the mother and his sisters named Yana, Zhanna, and Broin Slava.
Megumi: At school he have to pick between learn how to box or herds goats. Where he decide to learn how to box. So, they are going to north Siberian Gulag as captives until what some people believed that it was bomb. But I believed that they set the place on fire and torture the guards with the family leaving the place with Heavy taking care of his family
Sachi: Okay, the reason why he become a mercenary because to send the money back to his family to support them on the log mansion in Dzhugdzhur Mountains in Siberia.
Megumi: He a good man, killing man twenty-four seven for his family.
Toomi: The weapon of choice that he will bring into battle is his iconic mini gun
Megumi: Aw come on Toomi, everybody know that his gun is called Sasha that weigh 150 kilograms and with 200 dollars custom tool cartridges at ten thousands rounds per minute. It even cost four hundred thousand dollars to fire this weapon for 12 seconds. He even have a bed for Sasha

Spawning friendly Monoculus what shoots enemies with exploding eyeballs

Electro sphere (sucks enemies in and damages them)
Toomi: Also it can inflict heavy damage at a high rate of fire, allowing him to mow down opposing babies, cowards and teeny-men in seconds
Megumi: Heavy also carries several Shotguns as a backup weapon that can hold a maximum of six shells. He also carries other variations like Family Business that has a faster fire rate and can hold 8 shells, and Panic Attack for more precise and quick shooting. But both of them do less damage than his standard Shotgun.
Sachi: Heavy also has other weapons like Tomislav a more silent and precise Minigun that is lighter so Heavy can move faster but has a slower fire rate as Sasha, with Natascha he can slow down his enemies once hit, and his most powerful one Brass Beast that is heavier than his other weapons but can do extra damage and more durable when low health.
Megumi: Oh just you wait, when the big Russian lug is tired or or hurt he can eat his Sandwich or Sandvich as what he calls it, which can also be used alternatively for supporting allies by throwing the Sandvich on the ground for them to pick up but if he eats the Sandvich it will leave him open for an attack.
Toomi: Unlike the other mercenaries, Heavy does not carry a weapon specifically designed for melee combat with his muscle build Heavy is arguably the strongest physical wise out of all the mercenaries, so like a man he settles close quarters combat with his fists.
Sachi: Heavy is strong enough to carry miniguns that are over 300lbs with ease, wrestle ½ ton wild grizzly bears, stop a freight train with his bare hands, and can casually punch through people like made of styrofoam
Feats
Massive strength
Effortlessly lifts a 330 pound minigun on a daily basis and seems not be affected by the guns recoil (other than slowing his movement speed)
Casually punched out all of a BLU Scout's blood and ripped out a BLU Soldier's spine in a melee fight after consuming a Sandvich
Wrestled 1/2 ton bears.
Can flip people with one finger (Flippin' Awesome taunt)
Stopped a freight train with his bare hands (while ubercharged).
Bent Spy's revolver 90 degrees.
Lifted the Classic Heavy over his head, then broke his back
Held open blast doors
Alongside with the Medic, defeated an entire horde of BLU soldiers
Survived momentarily having his heart removed in surgery while conscious and having a new one forcibly shoved in his chest.
Can fight two Sentry Guns by himself
Once had a nuclear warhead the size of his head stuck in his abdominal cavity and survived
Broke himself, his family, and many other victims from their cruel captors and tortured the guards to death.
Has held off various enemies including rival mercenaries of various classes, hordes of robots, a massive eyeball that can fire rocket eyeballs, the Horseless Headless Horsemann, a bread monster, and even an almighty wizard.
Skilled enough to go through Hell
Toomi: Heavy is also quite durable, he onced survived momentarily having his heart removed in surgery while conscious and having a new one forcibly shoved in his chest. I may not be a doctor but I don't need to be one to even think that's possible?!
Megumi: You may think ole Heavy is just a big muscle bound Russian goon, but he is actually really smart, as he achieved in getting a PhD in Russian Literature.
Toomi: While the Heavy may look and boast like he is invincible the truth is, he isn't. The Heavy is the slowest class of mercenary, said to 23% slower than your average Human Male, and has shown to be outsmarted by people like the Spy and even the Demoman on several occasions.
Sachi: While the Heavy is built like a tank and maybe able to survive a few rockets and bullets there are still limitations to how much damage he can take before finally dying.
Megumi: And speaking of slow, his speed makes him the perfect target for Scouts, Spys and Snipers
Weakness
Slowest out of all the classes (23% slower than the average person)
Slows to a crawl while using his Minigun.
50% slower with the Brass Beast.
Durability is limited
Demoman's Sticky Bombs (depending on amount), Spy's backstab, and Sniper's fully charged headshot can instantly kill him despite his high health. His slow speed makes him an easy target.
While eating the Sandvich, he cannot move or defend himself
Every unlockable weapon has some drawback compared to his default.
Admits that sometimes he can be outsmarted
Toomi: And while his sandvich can heal wounds, consuming it takes time which also leaves Heavy vulnerable to attacks
Sachi: And most of his different weapon options have exploitable and dangerous weaknesses.
Megumi: But one thing's for sure, Heavy is not to be messed with because he will kill you with no surprise
Heavy: Some people think they can outsmart me...maybe...sniff...maybe. I've yet to meet one who can outsmart bullet.
Toomi: Alright, the combatants are set, let's end this debate once and for all.
Sachi: Don't forget to vote, comment what you think of the fight.
Megumi: Yeah, but right now, it's time for a Death Battle!
Fight
Moscow
<Cue: Rasputin by Boney M>
In the quiet town of Moscow, all seems to be peaceful.
However, all of the peace and tranquil was interrupted by the sound of a loud explosion.
KABOOM!!!
Inside a nearby gym, Zarya is lifting weights when something bursts through the glass.
CRASH!!!
Zarya turns, seeing a dying Blue Sniper lying on the floor as Heavy steps into the ruined gym, shouting out.
Heavy: We are killers!
Annoyed by the interruption of her training, Zarya faces Heavy, declaring out.
Zarya: Zarya ready, crush the enemy.
Heavy: Come, we fight like men
Zarya: Challenge the champ, expect to lose.
Announcer: Fight!
Zarya picks up several of the weights before throwing them at Heavy, to which Heavy swings his hand out, deflecting two only for the third one to hit him in the head.
BONK!!!
Heavy: Ow!
Angered, Heavy draws out Sasha, screaming out
Heavy: Here I come!
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
Heavy opens fire across the gym, forcing Zarya to run.
Zarya snatches her particle cannon, firing back at Heavy.
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
Both big muscled Russians runs across the gym, bullets raining as Zarya jumps back, smashing through the glass.
CRASH!!!
Zarya then fires her Particle Cannon at Heavy.
THOOM!!! THOOM!!! THOOM!!!
Click! Click!
Realising he is out of bullets, Heavy switches to one of his shotguns before opening fire, striking into Zarya.
BANG!!!
Zarya: Omfph!
Zarya grunts out as she felt the bullet strike her in the shoulder.
Heavy: I have new ways to kill cowards.
Zarya: I cannot be stopped.
Zarya then activates her Particle Barrier, creating a shield that she moves out, shielding herself from the barrage of shots from Heavy.
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
As Heavy's shotguns runs out of bullets, Zarya uses this opportunity to close in, swinging her cannon across Heavy.
WHAM!!! BAM!!! POW!!!
Zarya then thrusts her leg out, kicking him back.
WHAM!!!
Angered, Heavy lunges forward, socking Zarya square in the jaw.
BAM!!!
Using his boxing glove, Heavy closes in, dodging a wild swing from Zarya before striking her multiple times.
WHAM!!! BAM!!! POW!!!
The last blow sends Zarya flying, crashing through a statue.
CRASH!!!
Heavy: AHAHAHA!!!
Zarya pushes herself up, pointing her Particle Cannon and she opens fire at him.
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
Alarmed, Heavy began running, attempting to flee only to get struck in the back by a bullet.
BANG!!!
Heavy: DAHHHH!!!
Injured, Heavy limps behind a stall, hiding as Zarya continues to fire at him.
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
Heavy: This is bad. This is bad.
Heavy moans out and he pulls out Natascha, firing back at her.
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
The bullets though didn't hit Zarya, one managed to bypass her cheek, creating a small scar.
Angered, Zarya began using her Ultimate on him.
Zarya: Ogon' po gotovnosti!
THOOM!!!
The Graviton Surge lands in front of Heavy, creating a gravity well, pulling Heavy in and injuring him in the process.
Thinking she had won, Zarya declares out.
Zarya: Pod delom tebe.
However, Heavy is still not done.
Heavy pulls out his trusty sandvich and he cheers,
Heavy: Да, this will work!
Heavy began consuming the sandvich as Zarya prepares to finish him off, asking.
Zarya: You were strong... for a rodent. And now you are dead.
However, the monologue gave Heavy enough time to finish his sandvich, boosting his health back to normal as he shouts.
Heavy: I am Heavy Weapons Guy and this is my new weapon!
Zarya: What?!
Before Zarya could react, Heavy throws a massive uppercut, striking her square in the jaw.
POW!!!
As Zarya is sent flying, Heavy pulls out his spell book, creating a fire ball before throwing it at Zarya, creating a massive explosion.
KABOOM!!!
The explosion causes Zarya to fall from the sky, screaming out in agony as she felt her body burning.
Zarya: WAAAAHHHHHH!!!
Heavy then pulls out Brass Beast, aiming it at Zarya and he says.
Heavy: And now, you are dead.
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
Heavy unleashes a barrage of bullets at Zarya, the bullets tearing through her burning body.
Heavy looks down, staring at a mangled head of what was once Zarya and he bursts out laughing.
Heavy: WAH HA HA HA HA HA!!! What a baby!
Heavy then keeps his gun, picking up Sasha and he turns around, leaving the town
KO!
<Cue: Island Song by Ashley Eriksson>
Megumi: At this point, are any of us even surprised at all?
Toomi: Both Zarya and Heavy comes off as some of the physically strongest members of their team and their weapons can deal heavy damage but that's pretty much where their similarities ends.
Sachi: Indeed, Heavy's durability to tank damage, certainly beats Zarya who when played poorly, is more vulnerable to attacks especially from weaker opponents.
Megumi: Even if we include Zarya's only canonical win over Sombra, Heavy has defeated more opponents, besting Scout, Soldier and even Classic Heavy, people much much stronger than Sombra.
Toomi: While Zarya's weight lifting feat of 512kg is impressive, Heavy has stopped a Freight train while ubercharged, do note that freight trains have a weight up to 4,000 tons (8,818,490 lbs) to 20,000 tons (44,092,452 lbs) or even more in some cases. Which is 3628739 kg for 4 000 tons and 20000000 lg for 20 000 tons, much more than how much Zarya has lifted.
Megumi: And get this, Heavy is even awake and alive during a heart surgery when has Zarya even survived anything like this?
Sachi: Zarya's only advantage she has is Particle Barrier that can shield her from harm and her speed is much faster than Heavy meaning she can still hit him but not really any ways to kill him.
Toomi: What's more Graviton Surge is powerful if Zarya is paired up with other characters like Reinhardt which she unfortunately doesn't have due to no outside help, meaning while the Graviton Surge can hurt Heavy, it on it's own isn't powerful enough to kill him.
Megumi: Which is where his sandvich comes in to heal him.
Sachi: Overall, Heavy even has a much bigger arsenal of weapons, so even if his guns runs out of bullets, he has plenty more to use, even spells that can even instantly end Zarya where she is right at this point.
Toomi: Indeed, holding all the cards in strength, combat poweress, arsenal, durability, we can conclude that Heavy takes the key over Zarya in this matchup.
Megumi: Looks like Zarya Heavily loses in this fight.
Sachi: The winner is The Heavy
Heavy: Dah da da-dah da da-da-da-da-da-dahhhh!
Megumi: Oh, those Russians.
Toomi: Hey guys, thank you so much for checking out our battle in What if Battles 2.
Sachi: If you want more content like this, don't forget to add this in your library and comment if you have any idea for a fight.
Megumi: Until then, next time on What if Battles...
