Mei vs Pyro

Requested by pokmonmonster23

Overwatch vs Team Fortress 2, Ice vs Fire, Cold vs Hot, Scientist vs Maniac, Overwatch and Team Fortress clash yet again with their elemental members, but will Overwatch be able to keep their cool, or will the Mercs be burning them down?!

https://youtu.be/92H3Mscg7QQ

<Cue: Invader Theme>

Toomi: Mei, one of Overwatch's finest scientist and climatologist.

Megumi: And Pyro, the flame spreading homocidal pyromaniac of Team Fortress 2.

Toomi: Fire and Ice, these two elements are often times contrasting each other,

Megumi: And what's better to showcase this rivalry other than using characters from rivaling video games, she's Sachi, Toomi and I'm Megumi.

Sachi: And it's our job to analyse their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle

Mei Cryo-Freezes into What if Battles

https://youtu.be/hR8LcTP5Elo

<Cue: Cold As Ice by Ava Max>

Toomi: Beautiful spirit. That is the English translation of Mei Ling, a climatologist whose optimism never fades away in times of despair and in face of an overwhelming force. Mei's genius level intellect and outstanding work as a climatologist led her to join Overwatch, an international task force that saves the world from the dangers of war.

Megumi: Which is basically like every Super Hero team but minus the aliens and mages

Sachi: Mei is a climatologist tasked by Overwatch to study the Earth's changing climate. She used her state of the art technology to make observations on the climate and to protect areas that are at risk of polar storms.

Megumi: Polar storms? You mean big-ass blizzards? Ha, get it? Blizzard?

Toomi: Enough Blizzard Entertainment puns, and yes, they are "big-ass blizzards". Back to the story. Mei was assigned to one of Overwatch's monitoring station at Watchpoint: Antarctica. Mei and her team were assigned to study a polar storm in that area, but it suddenly grew in power and became a catastrophe.

Sachi: The polar storm damaged the base's comms and as a result, isolated them from the outside world, including Overwatch. Their last resort was to enter cryostasis and wake up until they get rescued. But they were never rescued. And all of them died in their sleep, save for one.

Megumi: Mei was the only survivor and found herself alone and without any human companions. She only had Snowball, the droid given to them by Overwatch to assist the team's works

Toomi: After some serious lamentations from Mei, she decided that she will fix the base's comms and get the data that they have collected about the polar storm.

Sachi: As days passed, Mei invented her signature weapon, the Endothermic Blaster, to repair the comms tower of the base. She used to support the broken parts of the tower with ice. And when she finally fixed the tower, Mei set out for the outer world to finish her mission and save the world.

Megumi: Alright! Now let's get to her gear.

Toomi: The Endothermic Blaster is a portable weapon designed to unleash a concentrated beam of freezing energy that damages, slows and freezes enemies. It also allows Mei to slide on ice, the blaster can freeze the ground ahead or behind Mei. She can slide on the frozen ground, allowing her to catch up on faster foes. It has a secondary fire function that allows to fire icicles.

Megumi: Icicles? Now that's what I'm talking about! It's also kind of weird to think about it though. I mean, sharp icicles and a friendly looking woman don't go together. It's just...satanic.

Sachi: The blaster works best at close range, and can encase targets in ice for 1.5 seconds. It also takes 1.5 seconds to freeze the target. She can repeat this process until her target is dead. Its downside is that it only slows the enemy's standard movement speed. Which means that anyone that can apply a speed buff to themselves will not have that bonus speed affected by the blaster's beam.

Toomi: The blaster can also fire high velocity icicles. These deal very high damage and can easily kill frail opponents. The disadvantage of using icicles is that it consumes more ammo that using her freeze beam. Using icicles too much will force Mei into finding more ammunition for her blaster.

Megumi: And here's one of her less "demonic" abilities. She can create an Ice Wall made of five pillars of ice. She can use these to create obstructions or lift her friends and enemies up the wall. This is useful for getting out of a sticky situation, which is, most of the time.

Sachi: The ice wall is not indestructible, and is not a perfect ability for defense. It is, however, a great way to access places that are not accessible to her because of its height.

Megumi:  She can also cover herself using Cryo-Freeze. This ability covers Mei in a nice, comfy block of ice that can't be broken. She also gets healed inside that cocoon. Talk about finding warmth in ice!

Toomi: And her last but ultimate ability, Blizzard. She can summon Snowball, the droid, to create a large freezing field that slows enemies inside the field. If the enemy stays in the field for 2.5 seconds, they will be frozen solid for 4 seconds.

Megumi: Now, let's get to her feats. I wonder what she can do?

Feats

Survived several years in her cryostasis pod.

Mei admits to have been one of the main engineers who designed and built these pods.

Invented her Cryo-Weapons.

Survived traveling across Antarctica by herself (and Snowball).

Toomi: Not much, but according to Mei's animated short video, she seems to quite acrobatic despite her bulky suit. She was able to jump to another metal beam to avoid an explosion. She's also a genius, being able to create her Endothermic Blaster out of the scrap that they found in their base

Sachi: She was also able to create it's ammunition using water and some sort of...freeze device? The ice emitted by her blaster is strong enough to hold a large metal truss tower in place, as seen in the animated video where she prevented the comm tower from falling after accidentally triggering an explosion. The strength of the ice depends on how much ammunition Mei used.

Megumi: Mei seems to be quite durable to the cold of the Antarctic. She actually took a long trek in Antarctica, and survived. That's a tough woman.

Weakness

No superhuman strength or speed.

Icicle projectiles have a slow rate of fire and a long delay. Mei is normally at her best at point blank range.

Ice Spray doesn't hit multiple targets at once. Only Mei's Ult is effective against large squads.

Ice Walls blocks both teammates and allies.

Ice Walls can't stop moving payloads.

Ice Walls expire in a few seconds.

Bastion and some Ults (especially Pharah's and Roadhog's) can destroy the Ice Wall singlehandedly.

Pharah, Junkrat, Genji, Hanzo and Winston can move over her wall easily.

Junkrat can easily shoot around or above walls and can lay traps if Mei is in Cryo-sleep.

Tracer can escape Mei's Ice Spray with her Blinks and Recall; even while Mei is hitting Tracer with the spray.

Low damage output makes her less effective at killing Tanks.

Orisa's Fortify makes her temporarily immune to freezing and her Barrier can easily block Mei's ice-gun: meaning Orisa is one of the best characters to fight Mei.

Mei is more of a scientist rather than a combatant.

Toomi: Mei isn't like her fellow Overwatch members, she lacks any superhuman abilities, like Soldier 76 surviving a shotgun blast from Reaper to the back.

Sachi: And she's actually pretty easy to kill

Megumi: But as far as she is known, just surviving the Antarctica with temperatures as low as -49°C which can normally give you frostbites, just proves that her abilities compensates her lack of combat abilities.

Pyro Scorches into What if Battles

https://youtu.be/iSf_cs4-E-I

<Cue: Burn It To The Ground by Nickleback>

https://youtu.be/WUhOnX8qt3I

Heavy: I fear no man, but that thing it scares me.

Toomi: Hired by Mann CO as 1 of the 9 mercenaries fighting under the RED and BLU team corporations the Pyro is the most mysterious and most feared person in the Team Fortress 2 universe. Assuming Pyro is even a person.

Megumi: According to Valve only two things are known about the mysterious Pyro; it shoots fire and doesn't speak. And... well, that's pretty damn accurate!

Sachi: The Pyro is a mass arsonist with no true background, with an anonymous gender.

Megumi: Wait, isn't Pyro a man?

Toomi: Deeeepends.  In Team Fortress Classic Pyro was female hinting that maybe the Team Fortress 2 Pyro could be female too but nobody knows for sure.

Sachi: The Pyro wears a black gas mask and a fully covered fire-resistant suit with handling gloves. The mask, suit, and gloves completely cover Pyro's body not even letting you see an inch of skin making it impossible to even get the slightest hint as to who and what Pyro is

Toomi:  Pyro wears a fire proximity suit, a fire proximity suit is able to withstand temperatures up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit making Pyro immune to being caught on fire.

Megumi: However, the Pyro is not immune to fire so they will still be damaged by fire but with significantly reduced damage so think of it like fire armor. What's Pyro's weapon you ask? It should be pretty obvious, you see while Pyro's teammates wield some guns, knives, explosives, Pyro burns their asses with a flamethrower to death like a badass!

Sachi: The Pyro's flamethrower is a long metal pole, connected by a hose to a propane tank, the tank is attached to the pole via fastening bands, a continually lit pilot light can be seen at the nozzle, and the trigger is made out of a team-colored gas pump handle. What I'm getting at here is that it's homemade.

Megumi: That doesn't make it any less deadly! It's flames upon contact with a victim instantly catch their entire body on fire, constantly burning them causing them to bleed rapidly as well. Ouch! That's really gotta burn!

Toomi: However, Pyro's flamethrower is a very unique one because it doesn't only shoot fire. It has an alternative function allowing it to release a blast of compressed air called the air-blast. This air-blast has enough force and pressure to push the human body several feet away into the air! Also, it's able to instantly extinguish fire.

Megumi: Not only that but the airblast is also able to reflect any kind of projectile. Rockets, grenades, bombs, arrows, even laser beams! Holy shit! What an OP flamethrower!

Sachi: But, it has its limits. It only holds up to 200 ammo which sounds like a lot but it chews up 12.5 ammo per second of flame. Also, using the air-blast takes up 20 ammo each time used.

Toomi: Luckily, Pyro's got more flamethrowers. Like the back-burner which is designed exactly the same as Pyro's original flamethrower except it has a dragon head for a nozzle. The fire that shoots from it does insane damage when shooting at a person's back killing within seconds.

Megumi: We're not nearly done yet! That was just Pyro's flamethrowers, there are many more of Pyro's weapons to talk about. In order to make sure Pyro has a way to fight at range or underwater Pyro's got a shotgun! A pump action-style, sawed off shotgun that fires 10 pellets at a time every 0.6 seconds.

Sachi: And we have the Manmelter a grey, retro-furturistic Ray gun laser pistol created by Dr. Grordbort just like the Phlogisnator. Despite it shooting lasers when it hits an enemy they are lit on fire. It requires no ammo, has +50% projectile speed, doesn't need to be reloaded, can extinguish fire and just like the phlogisnator it can disintegrate an enemy into ashes

Toomi: Anyway, the Pyro has other long ranged weapons that are well, more fire related like the flare gun. It shoots 1 flare projectile per shot to ignite enemies on fire at long range. And if it hits someone who is already on fire it will do double the damage. But, of course it does have his faults being only able to hold 16 ammo, 1 per shot meaning only 16 shots and of course a flare shot is a lot slower than a shotgun shot so it can easily be avoided.

Megumi:  A lot of weapons and equipment right? Oh, but one more thing, it turns out the Pyro is actually not defenseless without a weapon. The Pyro is able to generate a fireball from the hands doing massive damage. This move is literally called Hadouken! That's right, Valve straight up just admits that they stole the move from Street Fighter.

Toomi: Pyro is even able to destroy these large tanks single-handedly! Even with raw physical strength considering that Pyro swinging an axe at it enough times is enough to eventually destroy one. Though the Phlogisnator is most effective and powerful when Pyro deals with these tanks, with the phlog's supercharged power it's able to destroy a tank in a minute or less

Sachi:  Pyro is also pretty durable able to tank several bullet shots from pistols, revolvers, miniguns, even some explosive rocket or grenade hits. Whether it be from enemy BLU team mercs, robots, or explosions from tanks.

Megumi: Pyro is also fast enough to tag a sprinting Scout who can dodge bullets from a Level 1 sentry gun, can dodge gunfire, and is fast enough to react to and reflect projectiles like rockets, grenades, arrows, etc.

Feats

Killed over Thousands of Robots, aliens and other supernatural beings.

Can perform a quadruple backflip (Flippin' Awesome taunt).

Can burn entire buildings down to a crisp.

Ran a million making company and made billions.

Fought other mercenaries capable of running at Subsonic speeds and their weapons that can destroy a small building or atomize human bodies. Also fought them in hell.

The Neon Annihilator can atomize humans in single hits.

Dominated zombie waves in Killing Floor (DLC).

Defeated the entire BLU team on their own.

Can deflect rockets pretty fast.

Fireproof suit protects from other fire-based attacks like their own.

Mutilated a bear with nothing, but a fire axe.

Toomi: Pyro is also pretty durable able to tank several bullet shots from pistols, revolvers, miniguns, even some explosive rocket or grenade hits. Whether it be from enemy BLU team mercs, robots, or explosions from tanks.

Megumi: Pyro sure is tough, equipped to take on skilled armed people or large armed machines and vehicles. Hell, even the Pyro's own RED team members were scared of them even though they didn't kill any of them

Toomi:  However, things are not always what it seems. As revealed in "Meet the Pyro" the following is what the Pyro really sees.

https://youtu.be/WUhOnX8qt3I

<Shows footages of The Pyro shooting rainbows and love at least what he thinks he's doing in his point of view>

Megumi: Yeah you see, the Pyro suffers from an extreme case of Schizophrenia, a disorder in which the victim sees things that aren't real. So, with the Pyro sees everything as this happy colorful rainbow wonderland known as Pyroland and everyone who Pyro is killing as little babies that are playing with Pyro insteads. Pyro sees the flamethrower as a rainblower which shoots out rainbows instead of fire, the scorch shot as a bubble blower, the fire axe as a giant lollipop and so on. So, despite having no idea of what's really going on the Pyro somehow manages to not only survive but destroy everyone and everything in the way.

Sachi: Well, this actually isn't entirely true as the Pyro has demonstrated some awareness of what e is actually doing and what is actually happening in other instances. Such as during Pyro's greatest feat of physical strength in which e managed to overpower and kill a bear with the standard axe bashing its head to bloody paste. Pyro had imagined the bear as some Smokey the bear rip-off in the Pyroland imaginary delusion but when the bear in the delusion had dared to insult fire, Pyro was very angered proving that Pyro at least to some extent is self aware that they are a user of fire. Then Pyro clearly 100% acknowledging the fact of slaughtering a bear in reality even though the bear wasn't what was imagined in the delusion and they clearly seemed to listen when told to stop by the Engineer.

Weakness

Cannot do much at long-range.

Flame-based weapons are ineffective underwater.

Afterburn is negated by Jarate, Mad Milk, and water.

Airblast consumes 20 ammo (25 for Degreaser, 50 for Backburner).

Suffers from constant hallucinations.

Thermal Thruster has up to two bursts before requiring time to charge up another burst

Not suited for long-range and non-projectile attacks, making him vulnerable to sentries, Heavies, and Snipers.

Will kill anything that insults fire even a hallucination of a smokey bear knockoff.

Toomi: Also, while Pyro can certainly take much more damage than the average person, Pyros can still be killed by normal means a Pyro even with their superhuman strength are still one hundred percetn human

Sachi: Plus, the Pyro is naturally much more suited in close range combat than long range when it comes to most weapons, all of them have limited ammo

Megumi:  Overall though, Pyro is one scary badass pyromaniac that you don't want to get spotted by.

https://youtu.be/WUhOnX8qt3I

Sniper: Help!

<Shows footages of the Pyro simply pointing their flamethrower at the Sniper before blasting a stream of fire, burning Medic alive>

Toomi: Alright, the combatants are set, let's end this debate once and for all.

Sachi: Don't forget to vote, comment what you think of the fight.

Megumi: Yeah, but right now, it's time for a Death Battle!

Fight

Burning Town

Evening at a small rural village, fire blazes across the inferno as people screams in terror and agony.

Blasting streams of fire is Pyro, the pyromaniacal arsonist who fires continuous blasts of flames.

However, right at that moment, a blast of ice shot right at a burning house, instantly putting out the fire.

The Pyro turns around, curious.

Standing apart from the pyromaniac is a young woman dresses in a blue and white winter jacket.

A small drone hovers along the woman as she helps up a man, directing him out of the town.

Mei looks at The Pyro, turning to Snowball and she says.

Mei: Come on, Snowball! We can do this.

Snowball beeps as Mei calls out to Pyro.

Mei: Dòng zhù! Bù xǔ zǒu!

The Pyro simply stares at her

Mei: I hate bullies! Time to cool off!

However, instead of seeing a young chinese woman preparing to fight, all Pyro see is...

<Cue: Let It Go by Idina Menzel>

Elsa: Let it Go! Let it Go! Can't hold it back anymore!

The sight of ice in Pyro's happy land however, greatly angers the pyromaniac, causing the nozzle of the flamethrower to be raised, prompting Mei to point her Endothermic Blaster at Pyro.

Mei: You have to let it go.

Announcer: Fight!

<Cue: Hot and Cold by Katy Perry>

FWOOSH!!!

SHING!!!

Both Mei and Pyro blasts streams of ice and fire at each other, the coldness of Mei's ice and the heat from Pyro's fire clashes in contrast between cold and hot.

The flamethrower runs out of fuel, allowing Mei to fire a blast of ice right into Pyro.

SHING!!!

Mei: A-Mei-zing!

However, it would take more than that to defeat Pyro.

The ice surrounding Pyro began cracking, startling Mei as Pyro bursts out of the icy prison.

Pyro pulls out an axe, forcing Mei to create an ice wall, putting herself away from the pyromaniac.

Pyro uses his Airblast, firing a blast which propels the pyromaniac above the ice wall, landing on top of Mei.

THUMP!!!

Mei: ARGHHHH!!!

Pyro grabs onto Mei before throwing her through a building, smashing her through a wooden wall.

CRASH!!!

Concerned for it's creator, Snowball flies past, striking Pyro in the back of the head.

WHAM!!!

Pyro stumbles forward, massaging the source of the pain as Snowball tends to Mei who is pushing herself up.

Mei: So impolite!

BANG!!!

Mei and Snowball ducks, narrowingly dodging a gun shot from Pyro who is loading up a shotgun to prepare for another shot.

Mei slides across the floor, dodging gunshot from Pyro before pointing her blaster, firing several shards of icicles at the pyromaniac.

Pyro lifts up one arm, blocking the shards of ice only for Mei to fire another blast of ice, only for Pyro to pull out a jetpack, flying away from Mei's blast.

FWOOSH!!!

Pyro flies across the air as Mei continues shooting after her flying opponent, soon relenting upon realisation that her opponent is too fast for her.

Pyro swoops down, pulling out the Back Scratcher before slashing it across Mei, cutting into her.

SLASH!!!

Mei: ARGHHHH!!!

Realising that blood is dropping from her wound, Mei quickly backs away, ducking as Pyro flies past her.

Pointing her blaster, Mei fires one more blast of ice, this time, striking Pyro directly.

SHING!!!

As Pyro freezes up, Mei quickly puts herself in a cube of ice, putting herself in Cryo-Freeze to heal her wounds.

While Mei is healing, Pyro bursts out of the ice, angered at attack.

However, upon laying eyes on Mei in Cryo Freeze, Pyro moves around, hacking at it with an axe but to no avail.

Pyro blasts another stream of fire.

FWOOSH!!!

Nothing.

Pyro takes out a shotgun and fires at her repeatly.

BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!

Nothing.

Curious, Pyro just moves around, tapping and studying the frozen Mei in curiousity.

At that moment, the ice shield went off in an explosion, sending Pyro flying back.

Mei then activates her Ultimate, signalling Snowball who began unleashing a massive blizzard everywhere.

WHOOSH!!!

The icy winds immediately cools the area around The Pyro, putting out the fire.

Despite noticing parts of the pyromaniac's body freezing up, that however did nothing to The Pyro.

The Pyro simply blasts more fire, melting the ice while closing in onto Mei.

Mei fires her blaster at Pyro, only for The Pyro to pull out a shotgun, opening fire onto Snowball.

BANG!!!

The single gunshot instantly destroys the drone, causing it to fall right into Mei's line of fire...or ice.

SHING!!!

Mei: Snowball!

Pyro then grabs onto the frozen Snowball before smashing it on top of Mei.

CRASH!!!

Mei backs away, dazed while parts of Snowball rains onto the floor.

Pyro then throw one single kick, striking Mei in the chest.

WHAM!!!

Just as Mei drops onto the floor, Pyro points the tip of the flamethrower one more time before unleashing a torrent of fire, burning Mei.

FWOOSH!!!

Mei: AAAAAHHHHH!!!

While Mei is getting burned alive however, in Pyro's point of view...

<Cue: Do You Believe in Magic by The Lovin's Spoonful>

In Pyroland, Pyro watches Elsa laughs out in happiness as the pyromania continues dancing, spreading sunshine and rainbows to all the happy people in the world.

Elsa smiles at Pyro and she says.

Elsa: You are my friend. You are special. You are my friend. You are the only one like you. Like you, my friend, I like you.

As both Pyro and Elsa walks away into the sunset of Pyroland, in the real world however...

Pyro is walking out of the blazing inferno with the charred remains of Mei lying dead on the floor.

KO!

<Cue: Island Song by Ashley Eriksson>

Megumi: Fire melts ice, are we even surprised by the results at all?

Toomi: This battle of contrasting elements may look interesting on paper but....yeah, it's not even a close fight at all.

Sachi: Despite working for Overwatch, Mei rarely gets into any fights in canon usually preferring to work in labs to fight climate change in contrast to Pyro who is an active warrior on the battlefield so that's only one of the many combat advantages Pyro has.

Megumi: Pyro even show case the ability to kill Scouts and Spies just by running over them, has killed zombies and even multilated a bear while Mei, is actually a pretty weak character as tanks like Bastions can smash through her wall even kill her.

Toomi: And while Mei is the best counter for a pyromaniac like Roadhog, the same cannot be said for Pyro who is not only far stronger than Roadhog but has even bested people far stronger than Mei.

Megumi: And there are weapons, while Mei's Cryo-Freeze enables her to heal her wounds she ironically don't have any other weapons aside from her drone Snowball and her Endothermic Blaster while Pyro with a huge array of flamethrowers, guns, axes and even a jetpack, which gives The Pyro a huge versatility advantage in the fight.

Sachi: And there is durability, while Mei's feat of surviving the extreme cold in the Antartic is incredible, it however, is not a factor in a fight especially against a more heat based opponent. And aside from that, Mei has no superhuman durability of any kind, be capable of getting shot down easily by any players.

Megumi: And Pyro who can tank fire from other Pyros and even wiped out the entire Blu Team to the point even The Pyro's own allies are afraid. Yeah, Mei isn't winning this in a long shot.

Toomi: Holding the advantage in pretty much everything, Pyro just need to burn Mei alive to take the win.

Megumi: Bet you can say this fight is pretty fire huh. Bet this sure felt A-Mei-Zing for Pyro.

Sachi: The winner is The Pyro

Trivia

* The connections between Mei and Pyro is that both combatants are humans armed with weapons and technology with contrasting elements who debute in rivalling video games, ice for Mei and fire for Pyro. This can be also seen as a battle of opposites because Mei is a scientist and a climatologist who fights for good while Pyro is a maniacal psychopath who commits acts of arson with Mei showing an immunity to ice and Pyro showing a slight immunity to fire.

* This is the second time an Overwatch character fights a Team Fortress 2 character, the first being Sombra vs Spy

* This is the third time a Team Fortress 2 character wins a What if Battle, the first being Sombra vs Spy and The Soldier vs Guile

* This is the seventh time an Overwatch character loses a What if Battle, the first being Mercy vs Hawkgirl, Sombra vs Spy, Ruby vs Tracer, Starlight vs Brigitte, Shego vs Moira and Reaper vs Noob Saibot

* Due to Pyro's gender being ambiguous, Toomi, Sachi and Megumi has never referred to Pyro in any gendered terms, using "They/Them" pronouns more on the character in gameplay as you can play as more than one of the same character. Thus making this the first battle where a combatant is not referred to by any gender.

* During the fight, Pyro sees Mei as Elsa from Frozen in Pyroland is a reference to how Elsa and Mei are both blue and white cladded women that can shoot ice.

* Some of Mei's dialogues in Overwatch references Elsa's quotes in Frozen, especially when she told Pyro to," Let it go"

* The way how Pyro kills Mei is a reference to how Pyro killed the Blu Team Sniper in the Meet The Pyro video

* Elsa's "You are my friend" speech to Pyro in Pyroland is based off the Mr. Roger's Neightbourhood song, "You Are Special"
