Re-do
When I got home, I sat down and journaled for a bit before reading the newest book I bought. I only read it out in the open when Mom isn't around. Steamy romances were my guilty pleasures. My phone binged and I expected the text to be from Eli. Instead, it was from Tilly.
Tilly: i forgot my phone charger at your place. mind if I swing by?
Lyra: Sure. See you in a few?
Tilly: see ya

I let Tilly in and she bolted up the stairs to my room. Today, she wore a t-shirt with characters from our favorite anime, "Sword Art Online", ripped jean shorts, orange flip flops and natural looking makeup.
"Did you see the link I sent you?"
"What link?"
I opened the fridge to grab a bottled water for the both of us.
"There's this ridiculous app that went viral," Tilly said, plopping herself on the couch.
I joined her, leaning back in the recliner, and rebooted my phone. The message popped up with the link to a news article about an app called "Re-do".
Early last Saturday morning, the app "Re-do" was released, sparking curiosity among potential users with its unreal claim. The app claimed to grant the user a one-time opportunity to redo a period of his/her life. Multiple users have downloaded the free app and have written mixed reviews about it. However, none of the users' information were displayed along with their reviews, making them completely anonymous. Some of the reviews goes as follows (Warning: strong language):
"I can't believe this fucking app worked! Everyone, this is no joke! Don't waste your opportunity!"
"What a scam! Even though it was free, I wish I could get back the time I wasted downloading this thing and filling out the dumbass questionnaire."
"I don't know how the creators did this, but I'm still wondering if all of it was a dream or an elaborate app-induced hallucination. I don't know why everyone isn't freaking out over this app!"
Many speculate a collaborative effort between creator(s) and reviewers and that the app itself is a hoax to get downloads and public attention. The creator(s) refused to identify themselves.
"That's weird," I muttered, scrolling down to see if there was more information.
"I'm curious about it but if it asks for personal info," she slid her finger across his neck, "then I'm out."
She sat up further. "What if it's a virus? It might wreak your phone! Okay, decision made. Not doing it."
She lounged across the couch while picking up the book I left on the coffee table. I reached out but retracted it when I saw she was already reading the summary on the back of it. She was silent except her eyebrows rose. She gingerly placed the saucy book back on the table as though it was contagious.
"Soooooo," she started, trying to hide a grin, "I'm guessing this isn't your mom's?"
I threw a velvety pillow at her and we both exploded in giggles.
"What, things with Eli aren't steamy enough?" I could tell that Tilly was trying to hide her sarcasm. She always thought I could do better. There was one guy awhile back that Tilly thought would be good for me but I already blew that opportunity.
My smile faltered. Things have been different between Eli and me. Maybe the dwindling newness and passion was just a beginning of a long list of other things going downhill.
"I have work in a bit so I'll talk to you later?" she asked, her voice gentler. "When you're done with that book, can I borrow it?"
I rolled my eyes.
"No promises."
