Chapter 1
"Hey guys!"
"Hey Vanessa!" said Marisol, "What do you have next?".
"I have Ms. Goforth for Econ. DOES ANYONE HAVE 3RD PERIOD ECON NEXT?"I said aloud at break.
"No 3rd period I have English with Liz and Esme. You should switch out and be in our class so squad could be together!," Marisol said.
"Nah it's fine I'm too lazy to change my schedule."
I decided to go as myself to school. I chose a black sweater, turquoise shirt, lightly ripped jeans and converse. I'm not one to really dress up for school.
It was the first day of senior year and it was beyond exciting. We were the ones who ruled the school, the ones freshmen looked up to, the ones who were getting ready to get out of there. We were at break at school talking about upcoming events.
"Hey don't forget about the wedding we're going to crash even though we were invited by Alicia," said Marisol, "The squad is finally going to another party and so excited."
Sophomore year, Liz, Marisol, Esme and I had a hilarious habit of being invited to random quincenieras (similar to a sweet sixteen but in a hispanic culture it means a sweet fifteen) in which we had no business being. It was a great year. But as we got older, there were less parties that we could crash so we gradually ended our party life.
Ever since then we no longer go or get invited to parties together so if there's a chance at a party that we can all attend, by all means we'll make an effort to be there. In this case, Marisol and Liz were invited by our friend Alicia who was in Esme's quinceniera.
"No I won't forget! You guys we haven't partied in years," I said referring to our infamous sophomore year.
"I know I can't wait," Esme said.
The bell rang and I walked to Econ with my friend David. David is the boy in our squad of girls. He has known Marisol and Liz for years and they all gladly accepted me into their group of friends.
"Bye David," I said as I walked into 3rd period.
I took a look around my Econ class and some fairly familiar faces including my friend Adriana, my basketball team mate Jessica, and Alicia's boyfriend... James?
The rest of my classes were dull but it seemed that I had pretty decent teachers. I went home later that day and told my mom about all the classes I had and how I was looking forward to going to school the next day.
"What are you going to wear to the wedding?" said Marisol.
"Dude I have no idea. I think I'm going to borrow a dress from Stephanie," I said.
Stephanie is the closest relative I have to a sibling. We are cousins from both our parents side (our moms are sisters and our dads are cousins). I was born just three months before her which was enough for her to be in a grade below me.
As a children we both grew up in a great, loving household and have come to love each other as sisters. Sharing clothes and talking about boys (although mostly about her boys since she's a total babe) is how we live our lives.
"I'm gonna go after school to Stephanie's house to go steal a dress from her," I said to Marisol.
That day I went to her house. Her house is my house as she has said before so I maneuvered my way toward her closet in comfortably. She has an outstanding fashion sense whereas I prefer my converse and loose tees. I finally found a dress that was form fitting to my body even though it was sleeveless and i don't feel the most comfortable in sleeveless clothing.
There at Stephanie's house, I looked at myself in the mirror and thought how sometimes I wish I was Stephanie. She's so pretty and sweet and smart and such a hard worker. She could dress in a garbage bag yet still look good in it. I was never one to have a low self esteem just at that moment I felt a bit insecure.
Now me: a senior in high school and still no boyfriend and no first kiss. Stephanie has had so many love interests with boys saying how she's so cute. In by no means did I ever wish her any harm I simply felt jealous. Regardless of the fact, I talked myself into trying to become confident enough to wear the sleeveless dress and took it home.
