CHAPTER SEVEN: ALWAYS HAVE, ALWAYS WILL
Remington was now alone in Emerson's apartment. After confirming that he'd take a week off of working he decided to stay in Nevada a bit longer. Haley left earlier that day, so Remington spent that time looking through some of the notes.
He found more that were written for him, he didn't bother reading them since he knew he couldn't read them without breaking down. He was already mentally drained because of the constant crying and heartache, he shouldn't make it even worse. He began sorting the notes based on who they were for. He didn't want to read them but he wanted to at least give them to whoever they were meant to go to.
A few names he didn't recognize came up. He kept them separate, hoping to find out who those people are. He sat there in Emerson's room alone, he could barely stay awake, he wasn't getting nearly as much sleep as he should.
He got up to get something to drink, but he realized he still had a note in his hand. He didn't know who it was for. He looked at the envelope seeing Sebastian's name written on it. Only moments later the apartment door opened. It scared Remington but he calmed down when he saw who was there.
"I didn't mean to scare you," Sebastian says noticing Remingtons surprised expression.
"Sebastian? What are you doing here?" Remington asks.
"Mom said you'd be here," Sebastian replies, "I wanted to check up on you and see why you decided to come here."
"I- there were some things I had to look at. Emerson, he told me to look at something that is here before he died. He planned this, Sebastian. He wanted this for a while," Remington admits, he fumbled with the note in his hand.
"He wrote about it?" Sebastian asks looking at the note Remington held.
Remington nods, "There's a box filled with them. I believe you'd like to see this one. It's for you."
Sebastian sighs taking the note from Remington. Remington watched him read it, he watched as Sebastians face changed. At first he looked so numb and emotionless, but now he just had a heartbroken expression.
"I'm sorry, I have to go," Sebastian sighs laying the note down on the table, "is there anything else he left that might concern me or was that it?"
"I- yeah, d-do you want to come take a look with me?" Remington asks surprised Sebastian would want to leave so soon.
"I don't know... I think I should leave though, I'm sorry," Sebastian says tears clouding his vision.
"Seb, you can't go, not like this,"
"I have to..." Sebastian chokes, he wiped his eyes before turning to leave.
"Sebastian wait! Please, you don't have to go through this alone... I need you, and you need someone too, I know you do," Remington puts his hands on Sebastians shoulders.
"I'm sorry, I can't be here..." Sebastian reaches for the door but he hesitates. He pulls his hand away from the handle.
"You can't go, Sebastian, I never got to talk to you since the funeral... You were shutting me out the first couple of days... You said we'd always be there for each other... So what happened to that? Why have you decided to push me away? I need you more than I ever have before. I-I hope you know that." Remington says starting to tear up.
"I-I know, I didn't want you to see me like this... I'm supposed to be the one who makes sure that you're okay, but I'm not even sure if I am..." Sebastian says.
Tears stream down Remingtons face, he was trying to find the right words to say.
"You can show me this side of you, I want to be there for you, just like you always have been for me. Sebastian, I need you, I need you more than anyone right now, please, I just need someone to talk to." Remington cries.
"Why do you want me? Why do you care?"
"You're the only one that understands, we already lost Emerson," Remington begins crying even harder, "I can't afford to lose you too..."
Sebastian steps away from the door. He knew Remington was right, he couldn't leave him. He sat down on the couch trying his best not to break down. Remington sat next to him, he pulled Sebastian into a hug.
"I'm sorry..." Sebastians says, at this point he was in tears. He couldn't hold it in any longer.
"D-Don't be, I know you need this as much as I do..." Remington held onto Sebastian trying his best to make him feel better, yet he didn't know how.
The only thing that would take their pain away would be if Emerson came back. Yet no matter how much they wanted to see him it was impossible.
"I-I miss him, Rem,"
"I know, I miss him too," Remington says laying his head on Sebastians shoulder.
"Nothing will make me stop thinking about him. No matter how much I drink I still end up waking up each morning in pain, not just physical pain but mental pain too. Alcohol, it never heals my pain, even if it does I can never remember the times when I'm feeling okay because of it, the only thing I remember about each day, is when I'm laying there remembering how much I miss him... Drinking until I pass out doesn't help, and lying about being okay sure as hell won't make it come true."
"Sebastian, you can tell me when you're not okay. You can tell me that you're struggling... All I want to do is help you, it'll still hurt, it always will... But it'll be less painful if we stick together, just like what you said when we were young, 'we have each other, we always have and always will.'" Remington says holding onto Sebastian, almost like how he held Emerson the night he died.
