CHAPTER EIGHT: DECEMBER 12, 2015

"Make it stop, please!" Emerson screams sobbing violently.

"Emerson! I'm here, it's going to be okay..." Remington says worriedly, he goes and sits down on the bathroom floor in front of his younger brother.

"It hurts!" He yells his hands in his hair. He had his knees to his chest and he was crying loudly.

"I know it does, I know," Remington says softly. He moved next to Emerson pulling him into a tight embrace being careful not to hurt him.

"W-When will it be over?" He asks hugging Remington back.

"I don't know Emerson, I don't know..." Remington says fighting back tears as he looked around the room.

He could tell what had happened. There was an empty bottle of pills near Emerson and a razor in his hands. His fingers had blood on them and when Remington saw his wrists they were messily wrapped. It seemed as if he tried to do it himself but didn't do it tight enough.

He took the razor from Emerson, he set it on the counter. Emerson held on to Remington tightly, his body trembling. The only thing Remington could hear was Emerson's shaky breaths and heartbreaking sobs.

"It'll be okay... I called for help, you'll be fine," Remington says softly, he runs his fingers through Emerson's hair in attempts to calm him down..

Emerson nods. Remington could only hold him... He couldn't take away any of his pain. The only thing he could do was try comforting him. Emerson laid his head on Remingtons shoulder.

"It hurts..." Emerson mumbles, his voice going quieter it seemed like the screaming got to him.

"I know it does, please, just power through this, you're going to be okay..." Remington didn't even know if he was right, he just wanted to help calm him down.

If things end this way he wanted to at least make sure his last moments were more calming instead of being filled with panic. Emerson shakes his head. He could barely speak, and the whole time he could barely breathe.

Remington grabs Emerson's wrist gently and wrapped it again so it'd stay in place. He did this to both of them trying his best to help as much as he can.

"I- I love you Remington... I'm sorry it has to end this way..." Emerson sobs his voice nearly gone.

"E-Emerson please... D-Don't give in... You're going to make it through this..." Remington cries holding Emerson tightly.

"Remington..."

Not long after he said that he passed out in Remingtons arms. Remington used his thumb to wipe away the last few tears that remained on Emerson's face. All he could do was wait for help, he held Emerson close to him. He wondered if it'd be the last time he could.

"St-Stay with me E-Emerson, you can't die on me, please, don't die," Remington says tears streaming down his cheeks as he held his younger brother.

The door bursts open and the paramedics took Emerson away from him. Remington could barely move, he stayed in place sobbing quietly, because the only thing he could even do was that. He could barely even process what was happening after Emerson passed out.

When Remington looked up he saw a female cop looking at him. He couldn't think straight his vision was blurry and his body was shaking. She crouched down in front of Remington.

"Hey, it's okay," She says softly, she was trying to make the situation better, "you've got to get up, I'll drive you over to the hospital. You'll be able to see him then."

Remington nods and stands up. He knew he had to go see Emerson, that's if they make it in time. She took him outside and they took her cop car to the hospital. The ride was mostly filled with silence and a few questions about Emerson. Things that Remington had to answer.

When they got to the hospital Emerson had just been taken in to a room. Now it was apparent he had low odds of surviving. His heart rate had lowered to a concerning level, even trying to do any sort of surgery or anything was useless, it had been over an hour since he took the pills and now he was out cold, on top of that he lost a concerning amount of blood due to self harm, it was too late. They couldn't help him out, the pills already took effect, even before he passed out. Now they had to wait for him to pass away...

"H-Hey... Sebastian, I- please just come to the hospital... Emerson he- I don't know what's happening... Just call me when you get this, please," Remington says. He sent the voicemail hoping that Sebastian would come in time to see him.

Nearly five minutes later Remington gets a phone call from Sebastian.

"Remington? Is everything okay?" Sebastian asks.

"I-I'm at the hospital. S-Sebastian, h-he overdosed, I don't know if it's too late, I'm sorry..." Remington says, it was apparent from his voice that he's crying.

"I'm on my way, Rem just tell me what exactly happened..." Sebastian says worriedly.

"H-He called me, he was crying and he told me he needed someone to talk to. Th-Then he told me he took the pills," He cries, "By the time he told me it had already been a while. He was scared Sebastian... And it hurt me seeing him like that... W-What if he doesn't make it?"

"Don't talk like that Remington, he'll be okay..." Sebastian says.

"How? How will he be okay," Remington asks.

"Look, I'm going to be there in about 20 minutes, but I have to go... Just hang in there, okay." Sebastian sighs.

"Yeah... I-I'll see you then..."

"I'm sorry Remington, I'll see you soon." Sebastian hangs up not long later.

Remington was all alone in the waiting room. He sat down with his head in his hands. The only thing he could do was cry. What else could he even do right now?

"You're here for Emerson, right?" A nurse asks.

Remington nods, "H-He's going to be okay, right?"

"I'm afraid that there's nothing we can do for him..." she says, "his body is already shutting down."

Remington nods and looks down, trying not to cry any more than he already is.

"Can I see him?" Remington asks.

"Of course, Room 206, it's straight ahead."

Remington nods, he heads to the the room walking in slowly. He stood next the hospital bed. He grabbed Emerson's hand and began holding it not even knowing if he could feel it. He was silent for a few minutes before he decided he should say something, because even if Emerson couldn't hear him, it'd help if he just said it.

"Emerson, I don't know if you can hear me right now, but I want you to know, I'm sorry, I'm sorry I couldn't keep you safe," Remington starts, "I hope you know I tried my best to. I love you, and I hope that after all of this... wherever you go, whatever happens to you, that it's better than where you are now..."

Then it happened, his heart rate dropped and the monitor began beeping loudly and repeatedly. Even after Remington yelling for help it was too late. He flatlined. Emerson was officially gone... Remington began crying even harder than he already was. He grips Emerson's hand tightly afraid to let go of him.

It ruined him to see Emerson like that, he looked so cold yet peaceful at the same time. He couldn't even see Emerson's eyes, but he didn't want to. He imagined that they would have been so empty, almost like the dull blue sky after a sunrise.

"I'm sorry, but you can't be in here."

Remington nods saying a soft goodbye before leaving, once he made it down the hall he was face to face with Sebastian. He didn't want to be the one to tell him, but he had to. He could barely speak, and he could barely think as well. He didn't know what to say.

"He's gone, Sebastian... He's dead..." Remington sobs.

Sebastian nods, he was fighting back his tears, because in his mind, he had to be the stronger older brother. The one who had to be there for Remington. Yet this is what caused him to be in even more pain, because he learned early on to ignore his own feelings and his well-being. Whenever he did that he felt so alone, because even though people could tell him everything, he didn't want to tell them how he truly felt.

"Come here."

Sebastian hugs Remington holding him tightly. He was already scared now that he lost Emerson, he didn't even want to think about losing Remington either. He didn't know what he'd do if he did.

Remington lays his head on Sebastians shoulder trying his hardest not to cry any harder. Sebastian just held him tightly afraid to let go of him. They both needed comfort, in that moment the only thing that would help, would be to see Emerson, alive.

"Do you want me to drive you home? Or do you want to stay at my place?" Sebastian asks knowing they should leave soon.

"I- I don't want to be alone, especially not right now."
