Day 4
David woke up on the brown leather couch with a navy blue blanket covering him. It was then that he realised that he had passed out again yesterday and Lily must've covered him in a blanket thinking he was asleep. He sat up and stood up, draping the blanket across the sofa as he did so. He then look at the clock and noticed it was only eight in the morning. The house was silent as far as he could hear, except for the ticking of the clock on the living room mantle piece.
He headed out to the kitchen, which was empty, and began preparing pancakes for breakfast. He knew they were Lily's favourite. As he was preparing the mixture, he noticed that the large knife from the knife block was missing. He shrugged it off as Lily being forgetful again and putting it somewhere in the house. It was something she usually did, although she didn't necessarily do it with knives all the time. Nevertheless, he continued making the pancakes and promised to himself that he would go find the knife and return it back to its place once he had given Lily her breakfast.
Once he finished the pancakes he served them up on two separate white plates that were on one large black tray, he poured two glasses of orange juice, put them on the tray and put the chocolate and maple syrup on the tray. He then began the journey to the bedroom with the tray of food which wasn't all that heavy for him. Upon reaching the bead room, he used his food to gently push the door open and found his wife Lily still asleep facing away from him. Although, by the time he put the tray down at the end of the empty side of the bed, Lily had woke up with a small quiet yawn and was smiling up at him.
"Breakfast in bed, this is a treat!" She stated sleepily as she was moving herself into a sitting position in the bed.
"Anything for you." He replied sitting on the bed next to her and passing over her plate of pancakes and glass of orange juice. They both had the bright idea of putting their glasses of orange juice on the bed side tables rather than trying to balance them on the bed itself.
Much of their breakfast was in silence with the odd conversation about the weather, which was still (not surprisingly) a snowstorm, and a few jokes about he had 'fallen' asleep on the coach. David didn't need to tell Lily he had collapsed, he thought it would've upset her.
"I found the large knife in the kitchen missing from the block this morning," David stated, "Did you use it when I went to sleep and forget to put it back?"
"Ohhhhh yeah, I forgot to put that back. I was looking through some old boxes in the garage and I couldn't find the scissors, so I just used the knife." She said simply shrugging it off.
"Ah okay. I'll go find it and put it back one we've finished breakfast."

When David did go into the garage he found the knife laying on his workbench. He looked towards the boxes at the back of the garage and saw that none of them appeared to have been recently cut open, but he simply assumed Lily may have just re-taped the box. Although, his did notice that his shovel was missing from its peg in the garage. He knew Lily wouldn't have taken the shovel, she had no need for it and it was on a peg far too high and in a small narrow space in the garage. He certainly didn't remember moving it but maybe he had earlier and moved it to the shed.
As he was leaving the garage he also noticed that instead of the previous three petrol canisters, there was only two. Maybe he had just filled two he thought and maybe the third one was empty and inside the boot of the car. It wasn't something he needed to investigate. He miss counted at times so it wasn't anything to worry about he thought. Maybe the shovel was in the shed and the extra canister was empty and in the boot of the car. It was nothing to worry about.
He left the garage and sat beside Lily on the brown leather couch in the living room after he returned the knife to its proper place. It was now the afternoon and the night was already starting to darken the sky and settle in. He brought up the missing shovel to Lily and just as he thought she had no idea where it was or even that they had a shovel in the garage. He also asked her how many fuel canisters he had filled and she swore he had filled two. Maybe he was miss counting things again and maybe he thought things were somewhere they weren't.
The news on the tv showed little interesting news. It only showed the same case about a serial killer that had been going on for years. It was a serial killer called 'The Husband Murderer' who as the name suggests, murdered their own husbands. It got David thinking. He knew Lily couldn't possibly be the serial killer as he'd known her for years and she was pregnant. Lily started speaking which brought David out of his weird and odd thoughts.
"How could someone do just a thing?" She was commenting about the serial killer.
"Clearly someone extremely insane."
"It's just so horrible, they could be anywhere and anyone." He saw Lily physically shudder as she said this.
"We'll be okay, we're safe here. And I'll always protect you."
