Day 3

Lily sat on the white dressing table stool that she had moved to the side of the bed, so she could hold David's hand til he woke up. She was looking out of the window and watching as the beginning of the snow storm occurred. The snow wasn't gracefully falling to the floor like it had done before, now it was hurtling towards the grounds which great speed and in large numbers. There was so much snow that Lily could barely see the farm house of one of their neighbours in the distance or their front gate. As far as she could see, everything was covered in a blanket of white and she could no longer tell what was what.

When she looked back over to David, who was laying on top of the pastel blue duvet covers, she noticed his chest rise and fall with each breath. He'd been like this for the reminder of yesterday, through the night and all the way through today. It was currently lunchtime and he still hadn't woken up. Due to the snowstorm, the phone lines were down so she couldn't call for help.

With a sigh, Lily got up from the white wooden stool and headed out the room and downstairs. She was going to make herself some lunch. This morning she had made David some breakfast but when he did wake up she threw out the old cold toast and waited by his side watching the snow. She wasn't prepared to waste more food, so she was simply going to make food for herself instead. Once she was in the kitchen she began to make her lunch which consisted of a ham and pickle sandwich, a random low fat yoghurt, an apple and a packet of ready-salted crisps.

---

David woke up slowly. His vision slightly foggy until he brought his hands up and wiped the sleep away from his eyes. He realised he was alone in his bedroom and laying on top of the pastel blue duvet. When he swung his feet over the bed, he noticed that outside the window the snow was falling thick and fast. Clearly the snowstorm had arrived. At this point he realised he must've been asleep for a while and that someone must've helped Lily take him home. He remember collapsing. He remembered hearing distant voices, but not what those distant voices were saying.

When he stood on his feet he was a little wobbly at first but after walking from his side of the bed to the door he felt a little more secure and began to make his descent down the stairs. After reaching the final step he came to the dining room to find his wife sat alone at the head of the table with a half eaten lunch. Her head was turned to look out the window to the snow outside. It was moments like these that he loved. It made Lily stand out and look beautiful in his eyes. However, as he walked further into the dining room he accidentally stood on a creaking floorboard that gave him away and Lily head rapidly snapped to look in his direction.

"You're awake!" She stated, "Are you okay?"

"I feel fine." He replied, "What happened?"

Lily began to tell David how he collapsed in the snow and that one of their neighbours in the farm close by was driving down that road. The neighbour then pulled David out of the snow and into their four-by-four, as well as giving Lily a lift home. Then how the neighbour helped carry David upstairs and laid him onto the bed. She explained that when he left she had taken off him wet coat, jeans and shoes, something David hadn't noticed, and sat by him waiting for him to wake up.

"I'm so sorry darling." David walked over to Lily and sat down in the seat next to her taking her hand in his. "I don't know what happened to me."

"I don't think we'll ever know." She replied. David gave her a puzzled look and she giggled a little. "I mean for now, because of the storm." David smiled back as a response.

"I'll go make myself some lunch, then we can spend the rest our time watching tv seeming as we're stuck in here." He stated as he began to get up from the chair.

"Oh no, let me do it. You collapsed yesterday and I don't want you to overwork yourself and collapse again!" Lily exclaimed attempting to get up after him.

"I collapsed once, it's probably unlikely I'll do it again." David replied.

"I insist." David knew there was no getting out of this. When lily wanted to do something she did it and nobody could tell her otherwise. It was something he loved about her.

David sat back down at the table and Lily hobbled her way into the kitchen. As she was making his lunch, David noticed she was barefoot, which was something she did a lot, and wearing her usual straight leg jeans and a baggy purple jumper. Once she had made his lunch she hobbled back over to David and placed the plate consisting of a jam sandwich, a banana, a snack bar and an orange, she sat back down and continued her own lunch. The pair spent their lunch watching the snow fall and taking about what had happened yesterday.

---

After they had finished their lunch and put their plates on the side next to the sink, ready to be washed once they had their tea in the afternoon, they headed into the living room to watch tv. They huddled together, David with his arms around lily and lily snuggled into him. David had grappled the large blanket next to him and draped it over the both of them.

They flicked through channels for what felt like hours but was actually on twenty minutes, until they finally settled on watching the news. Even though David wasn't in the least bit tired, he found his eyes fogging up again and then everything went black. The last thing he heard was the sound of the news reporter talking about a murderer or was it a murder or was it something to do with a cereal brand. He didn't know.
