Day 1
"Looks like we're not going to be able to leave the house for a week." David said as he got up from the couch and walked over to his wife in the dining room who was reading a book.
She was sat in an royal blue arm chair in the corner of the room that had a dark wood side table next to it. She had dyed blonde hair tied loosely in a low ponytail with her rectangular black rimmed glasses placed on her nose. She wore a thick red jumper and black tracksuit bottoms.
"Why?" Lily asked as she rested the open book face down on her bulging pregnant belly. Her piercing blue eyes glanced up from the book on her stomach straight up and into her husbands green eyes.
"A snow storm is excepted to get here in two days and we're in the red zone so it's likely we'll get snowed in." He replied, running his hand through his short raven black hair.
"Perfect!" She exclaimed. "I mean we can spend more time with each other and it can be our own little romantic getaway, only without the getaway."
"But what about the baby?" David panicked, "They're due any day now. We should get you to a hospital so you're not stranded here and things don't go wrong!" He began to pace up and down, while he ran his hands over his face.
"I'll be fine, honey." She said as she began to get up and place her bookmark in her book and placed it on the side table. "I'm not due until two weeks. And even if I am early, you're prepared for it and it's unlikely I'll give birth at all during the storm week."
"Okay, if you say so!" David said beginning to calm down. "But, only if you're sure!"
"I'm positive." She replied as she went over to her now relatively calm husband.
"Well, I'm going to go to the supermarket before people begin to panic-buy." David stated, "Do you want anything?"
"I don't want anything but make sure you stock up on plenty of fuel. And by that I mean take the fuel canisters and fill them up." She replied, "They should be in the garage."
"Why?" He asked in confusion and concern as to why they needed extra fuel.
"In case, the worst happens and we need that fuel to get us out of the countryside."
"Okay, well I'll get off now and I'll see you later." David replied before he hugged his wife and kissed her on the cheek.
He began his journey through the kitchen to the direction of the garage. His wife was following him close behind and as fast as she could considering she was around 9 months pregnant.
"Anything else?" David asked as he was about to get into their car.
"A fuck tonne of soup." She replied with a smile.
"Will do." He gave her a kiss on the cheek and activated the garage door to open. As it opened David climbed into the car and started up the engine. After he waved his wife goodbye, he reversed out of the garage and watched as Lily activated the garage door to close when he was finally out.
She walked back into the dining room but instead of returning to her book she was reading before, she pulled out the key of a locked cabinet door. The key she kept on we silver necklace. She pulled out a black hardback notebook and pen. Then she sat at the dark wood dining table and began to write inside the little book.
------
David arrived back home with a car stocked full over food supplies and three fuel cannisters. He began to take the fuel cannisters out of the car and placed them in the back corner of the garage. Then he began to unpack the food supplies and transport them to the kitchen where he began to store them in the correct places.
Once he had finished he headed towards the dining room, when he arrived he noticed his wife was back on the armchair with her book in hand. The only difference this time was that she had fallen asleep and the book was slightly open/slightly shut due to her thumb holding her place. He quietly and slowly walked over to her, he gently pulled the book from her hand and placed her book mark on that page before placing it on the side table. After that he attempted to silently go upstairs to retrieve a blanket, but the every so often a step would creak. However, it didn't stir Lily from her sleep and David was able to retrieve Lily's favourite red fluffy blanket. He brought it down and wrapped her in the blanket and then took her glasses off her face and placed the on top of her book. He decided to leave her in peace and head over to the living room.
Before he could leave, he noticed a scrunch up bit of paper on the floor. He picked it up and took it with him to the living room. He sat down on the two seater, brown leather couch and straightened out the crumpled up paper. He noticed their were some black scrawls and non-legible handwriting. Rather than ponder over what it meant, David through it into the bin beside the sofa.
Then he picked up the TV remotes from the glass coffee table in front of him and sat and watched the TV. He did this to waste time until he had to make dinner.
------
Lily woke up to the sound of something frying in a pan and the smell of some kind of meat. She noticed she was wrapped in her favourite red blanket and instantly knew it was her husband who had caught her sleeping and wrapped her up. Looking to the right, she noticed her glasses atop the book she was reading before she fell asleep. She picked up her glasses and put them on before getting up and putting the blanket on the armchair. Slowly she waddled over to the kitchen, then she learnt on the door frame and watched her husband cook dinner.
"You awake." David stated with a beaming smile.
"It was the food that woke me up." She said with a little laugh. "What are you cooking?"
"Sausage, egg and chips. A classic." He replied as he walked over to her and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"I'll go set up the table." She stated as she waddled into the dining room. She grabbed the flowery placemats and placed them on the table. Then waddling into the kitchen to grab the cutlery, she also got two glasses. With the table completely set, she went back to her spot against the door frame.
"What do you want to drink?" Lily asked her husband.
"Lemonade, please." He replied.
She grabbed the bottle of lemonade from the fridge and walked back to the dining room to fill the glasses, before putting the bottle back into the fridge. As she exhausted, she sat at the table and waited for her husband to bring their food through.
When dinner had arrived the pair began to tuck in. With a bit of small talk here and their about nothing of particular interest or importance. Today was like any normal day, except the future of a storm was thrown into the mix and preparations for this storm.
