Chapter 9

It's now been about half a year since Jax and Skye had made that promise and entrusted their lives to one another, and ever since then they've become a lot closer.

Although Skye's parents have been fighting more and each time the fighting seemed to get out of hand or she got harmed she'd sneak off to Jax's place and stay for the night. Sometimes on the weekends she'd stay for two.

Her parents were too busy with their arguments to notice their older daughter missing anyways.

Eliza however, noticed each time she snuck off, Skye always said it was because of a friend, but the younger sister always believed something more was going on.

And the appointments with Dr. Morgan unfortunately (Eliza's wording) had changed from once a month, to twice a month. But just like he did at first he'd ask his questions, the girl's would lie and the man would leave... then there were some months where Dr. Morgan would come over and talk about himself to help the girls feel comfortable, although they got a bit strange when he'd talk about Skye's eyes. Each time he came over Eliza felt sick, she obviously hated the man, and he secretly hated her. Skye was too oblivious to notice though, but she did feel a strange aura about him, but she just assumed it's because she didn't know him too well.

Speaking of which, one of the appointments had just finished and of course, Skye snuck out of the house and is with Jax again, and they're just sitting in the apartment watching whatever stupid thing is on tv.

"Hey... Skye..." Jax mumbled, he was lazily on the couch while she laid on the floor.

"Yeah... what's up?" She asked.

"Isn't tomorrow your birthday?" He asked, she sat up a bit quickly.

"Huh?"

"What are you, dumb? You told me it a few months ago, remember?"

"Hey Jax, random question... when's your birthday?"

"Huh? Why?"

"Just curious..."

"Well it's July 24th, ya happy?"

"Yeah..."

"Good... so when's yours?"

"Huh? Oh... mine's the 10th of June."

"Oh. Alright..."

"Oh... yeah, that's right. I forgot. There's just been a lot going on lately." She says with a small laugh.

Jax flicked her forehead. "You're really forgetful you know that?" He says.

"Yup, you tell me that a lot." She replies, rubbing the spot he flicked.

"So you planning to do anything with your family?" He asked.

"I don't think so... why?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

Jax turned his head away, blushing a bit from his answer. "Because I was planning on going around town with you. We could go anywhere you want..." He mumbled.

Skye smiles a bit at what he said, she knows he doesn't like to seem soft and that's why he's so embarrassed, but she likes this side of him. This side of him is sweet and kind of cute... 'Wait no! Stop thinking like that, idiot! You don't have a crush on him because he doesn't like you like that and you shouldn't either!' She thought to herself.

Skye stood up. "Hey, I'm going to leave. See you tomorrow." She says, heading to the door.

Jax grumbled something inaudible to hear.

"Huh? What was that?" She asked, turning towards him.

"I-It's nothing, just thinking to myself." Jax mumbles.

"Oh... alright. Well see you..." She smiled and left the apartment.

As soon as she left Jax sat up and smacked himself. "Was I actually gonna ask her to live here?" He thought aloud. "I'm so dumb..." He mumbles, then he sighed.

"I shouldn't think about that right now... I should think about what to get her..." He mutters.

~

"Happy Birthday!" A 10 year old girl said, jumping on her sister.

"Gah!" Skye yelped, hopping up. "You don't have to do that every year." She says.

"I know, and I'll stop when you're out of the house." Eliza smirked cheekily.

"Brat." Skye mutters, standing up and stretching. "And go get ready for school."

"You're no fun..." Eliza pouts. "And besides I didn't give you your present yet."

"You know you didn't have to get me anything." Skye says.

"I know but I wanted to. After all I think you deserve it." Eliza says, giving her sister a big grin.

"Eliza..." Skye mutters, giving her sister a small smile. "I don't deserve you." She chuckled.

"I know~" The younger girl joked, which caused the sister to roll her eyes. "I'm kidding. Anyways here it is." She says, holding a bag out to her.

Skye took the bag and pulled something out it. She was surprised when she saw the gift. It was a silver necklace with a small bird on it and a small blue gem was representing the eye.

"Eliza... it's beautiful." She says, putting it around her neck.

"I figured you'd like it. Happy birthday Skye!"

~

Skye's day was quite an interesting one. Her parents weren't home, which was kind of good considering they most likely would've yelled and hit her since that seems how they are acting nowadays and blaming her for everything.

At school a few of her classmates and teachers said happy birthday, even the librarian said it and of course Logan got her a gift.

"Happy birthday Skye! You're so pretty and I hope we can be closer this year!" He says, handing her the gift.

To her surprise it was a small keychain of a bunny, she would have to clip it on to her small black bag later.

When she got home that's when her mother yelled and blamed her for things, it was emotionally painful, but she did her best to ignore it, just like she's been doing for the past few months.

It was her birthday, it was Skye's special day...

And now it was time to hang out with Jax-

"Skye! Let's go." A high pitched voice said.

"Huh? What do you mean go? Go where?" Skye was confused on what her sister meant.

"We're hanging out, it's your birthday after all." Eliza says.

"O-Oh... but I already made plans with another friend." The 17 year old said, glancing away from her sister, she hated that she had to ditch the young girl.

"Then I'll just go with you guys." Eliza says, she's way too persistent.

"But Eliza, I'd prefer to be... alone, with this person." Skye mumbles the last part, but the young girl still heard her. 'It's definitely some guy, maybe a boyfriend, I should meet this pervert.'

Eliza rolled her eyes and sighed. "Fine... but you better hang out with me after."

"I will, I will." Skye says, closing the door of her room after her sister walked out. 'Now I can leave.' Skye thought, grabbing her small bag and putting it on, she then left her room.

When Eliza felt she was gone she opened the door of her sister's room. "Time to see who that guy is..." She mutters.

~

The 17 year old girl had taken her usual route to the male's apartment, oblivious to the sibling that was following behind her. Then again, she had a lot on her mind and couldn't really focus.

Skye noticed the somewhat rundown apartments down the road and quickened her pace a bit, she must've been really excited to see him, even she realized it.

"Jax? It's me, Skye!" Skye says, knocking on his door.

Almost immediately Jax opened up the door. "Hey shorty, happy birthday..." His tone kind of dragged out as he got a bit confused and his glance went to somewhere else- well someone else.

Skye noticed and turned around to see what he was looking at.

"Eliza?!" She almost shouted. "What are you doing here?"

"I followed you, and it looks like you did meet up with a guy." Eliza mumbles.

"Oh, so this is the brat you take care of." Jax mumbles. 'I almost thought she cloned herself, they look almost exact... it's just the eyes, expression and height that's off...' Jax thought.

"Yeah... I'm sorry, I didn't realize she followed me here. I hope that didn't mess up plans." Skye mumbles.

'Plans? Were they going on a date or something? She seemed happy to see him... did I mess something up? No. Don't think like that.'Eliza thought.

"No, it's fine." Jax smiled. "We can still walk around town, even if there's one extra person, don't worry." He says, ruffling Skye's hair.

"That's good." Skye says, sighing a little in relief. "Where to first then?"

"It's your choice. It's your birthday after all." Jax says.

"Alright, well... why don't we go to the ice cream parlor by here. It's pretty hot out." Skye says.

"That's fine with me." Jax said.

"Me too." Eliza says.

"Well then, let's go." Skye says, starting to leave the apartment complex with Jax walking beside her.

'Just what is that guy to her...?' Eliza thought to herself.

~

"Thanks for paying Jax... you know you didn't have to do that." Skye says with a small smile.

"Nah, it's fine. It's your day. And this is the least I could do for ya." He says.

"Oh... Well, thanks again, I really appreciate it." Skye says. "Hold on I'll be right back, I'm going to get napkins." She muttered, standing up and walking away.

Jax smiled softly, Skye seemed happy and that made him happy. Wow, the girl really had changed his world...

"Hey..." Eliza says. This made Jax jump, he was off in thought and this is the first time the younger girl talked directly to him.

"Yeah, what is it?" He asked, glancing at her, she seemed to give him a suspicious look.

"You and Skye, how long has that been going on?" The young girl asked.

"Huh? What do you mean?" He asked.

"Just answer the question." Eliza said- well more like demanded.

"Well... for a while I guess... almost a year, maybe." Jax said, thinking back on it.

"That long?" She mumbles. "Well, what do you think of her? And be honest."

"Kid, here's something you need to know, I don't lie. And the fuck is up with these questions?" Jax says.

"Just answer this one." She says.

"Christ..." He mumbles. "Well, for starters, she always looks so dead and she's weird." This caused Eliza to glare at him. 'Is he just using her?'

"But I guess that weirdness got me attached to her..." Jax mumbles. "We met on the train when she sat next to me, and I'm kinda glad I started talking to her... Then something happened that day as well. And that something had caused me to help and bring her to my apartment-"

"Huh?! Did you do something-"

"No! What's with you two, and you shouldn't even know about that kind of shit, what the hell?" Jax sighed. "Anyways, after that day we became closer... over all, Skye is a really good person, and don't tell her this... but she's the first person I truly care about... and this is going to sound weird but... I feel I've known her before and that's also a reason I want to truly care for her..." Jax told the younger girl.

Eliza looked at him a bit surprised. There was someone other than her that had really cared and was attached to the 17 year old girl. "I see..."

~

After a long afternoon of the three hanging out together it was time for the girls to head home. Eliza was sitting on a bench while waiting for Skye to finish thanking Jax.

"Thanks again for today." Skye says to Jax. Jax just ruffled her head.

"No problem. Did ya have fun at least?" He asked her.

"Yeah, this is probably the best birthday I've had to be honest." She says.

"That's good." Jax mumbles. "Oh yeah! Your gift." He searched through his pockets for something.

"Huh? You didn't have to get me anything." Skye says surprised.

"Nah, I think you should have this." He smirked a bit, holding out a box.

Skye took the box and opened the lid.

"A key?" She mumbles. She looked at Jax who just smirked, her eyes widened. "I-Is this to your place?" She asked.

"Yup, my place is your place." He says.

She smiled genuinely, it looked almost lively. Jax was surprised. "Thank you, so much. I'll make sure not to lose it." She says gripping it tightly.

"Sis! It's getting dark!" Eliza shouted. "Come on!"

Skye sighed. "I have to go." She says. She didn't know what she was thinking but she kissed his cheek as thanks and quickly walked off to her sister.

Jax had a surprised expression with both the smile and the kiss.

'Huh?!'
