Chapter 5
After a long night Skye had eventually went back to sleep and woke up the next morning. She had gotten dressed and looked at herself in the mirror. "Don't worry about what happened last night... today you're just going to hang out with Jax and have fun." She said confidently to reassure herself.
She smiled a bit and left her room. When she finished all her other morning deeds she grabbed her bag, put the strap around her shoulder and headed towards the door.
She opened the door only to notice someone about to ring the bell.
"Oh, Skye! Hey!" The male said, it was her red head friend, Logan.
"Oh Logan. It's you. What are you are doing here?" Skye asked, it's not that she wasn't glad to see him, it's just she really wanted to spend the day with Jax.
"I came by to hang out with you, duh!" Logan said with a grin.
"Oh, I see..." Skye says, 'looks like I can't get out of this, if I say I can't hang out at the moment it will obviously be a lie because I was already heading out the door... guess I can hang out with him for an hour and then hang out with Jax for the rest of the day. I really sound like a selfish jerk... but I already told Jax I'd go to his place today... it's kind of like I'm making my end of the bargain... even if I'm lying to my friend.' She thought, a small smile was then plastered on her face. "Alright, then let's go... I don't really have much time though."
"That's alright! I'm just glad I can hang out with you!" Logan said, happily. Skye smiled softly at her friend's joy, even if she was going to lie to him she was glad he was a bit happy.
"Well, let's go..." Skye says stepping on to the porch, closing the door behind her. "Where to?"
"Hmm the park maybe?" Skye froze for a moment, thinking about the events from yesterday.
"Do you mind if we go somewhere else...? Sorry I just don't feel in the mood for the park today..." Skye chuckled awkwardly.
"A-Ah! Yeah! Of course! As long as you're happy I am happy as well!" Logan says, a small blush on his face.
"Hmm alright, how about we get something to eat and then head to the library for a bit. I want to check out some of the books they have there." Skye says.
"Sounds good!" Logan says with a smile.

"Ugh! Where is she?" Jax groaned to himself. He was lazily sprawled out on the couch waiting for his friend to get to his place, but that seemed to be taking a while. "This is so boring..." He mutters.
He stared at the door, hoping that the girl would walk through it any moment. "What is she doing...?" He mutters. "Don't tell me..." he thought of worse case scenarios, such as 'What if the serial killer had gotten her while she was out yesterday? Or while she was walking here!' Or 'Did another pervert get a hold of her?!' All of those thoughts got him paranoid... after all she was his first real friend and he didn't want to lose her so soon.
"Ugh... Why am I worrying so much... she's almost an adult she can handle herself, right?" He mumbles before hitting himself with a pillow. 'Is this only because I'm anxious about asking her my question?' He thought to himself. 'Why am I an idiot at times like these...?' Jax sat up for a moment and put his head in his hands. "It's a simple yes or no question... so why am I stressing out over this?" He mutters. "Do I know you from somewhere? It's as easy as that."
He took a long, deep breath. "Well right now I can't do anything but wait... she's probably doing important shit right now..."
~
"What kind of book are you looking for Skye?" The red head boy asked his blonde friend.
The girl shrugged. "A murder mystery book maybe? Some type of book that will keep me at the edge of my seat."
"Oh yeah. I forgot you liked those kinds of things. After all we only have one class together, and I can be forgetful..." Logan said and sheepishly scratched the back of his head.
"Yeah... it's alright though... at least we can spend a bit of time together right now. And you can remember some of the things I liked or what we used to do." Skye said, looking at him with a small smile. This made Logan's heart skip a beat.
If it wasn't obvious, the red head liked her as more than a friend. Skye had noticed the few blushes he had when they were together and how nervous he could be, but she thought that was natural for him... but it really wasn't. But what would she know? She barely saw him throughout the day. A few thoughts had crossed her mind that he may have a crush on her but she never believed that, after all she was... too 'her'... too unique.
"Oh. Here's something!" Skye says, grabbing a book off one of the many shelves. "This could keep me busy for a while." She said, thumbing a few of the pages of the book.
"You really like coming here huh?" Logan says with a small smile.
"Yeah? Is there a problem with that?" Skye asked, she didn't necessarily like when people judged her interests.
"Ah?! O-Oh no. There's not! I-I just took notice that you're really interested in the book-" He got cut off by Skye telling him to lower his voice and her starting to quietly laugh.
"It's okay... I didn't expect you to get worked up over a small question..." Skye says, a few giggles escaping her. "But yeah. I like coming here."
Logan blushed a little, glancing away from her, he always thought she looked cute when she smiled, but he'd be embarrassed to tell her how he felt.
~
The two had exited the library and as they did that they realized their time together had come to an end. "Oh. I should get going." Skye says, noticing an hour or two had passed.
Logan nodded. "Ah! R-Right! I'll be heading to the station then. See ya at school!" He says. Skye just nodded in agreement and walked off.
"I hope Jax didn't forget about today..." Skye mumbles to herself. "I was really excited about it too."
And before the girl knew it she was already in front of the apartment. She lightly knocked on the door. "Jax? It's me, Skye." She says.
The door had opened a bit quickly as soon as she said her name. There stood the odd eye colored male in front of her. "Yo!" He said with a grin.
"Hey. Did you get bored without me?" Skye joked with a small smirk, which caused Jax to roll his eyes and ruffle her hair.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't. Come on in." He said, stepping aside for her to come into the apartment.
"This place seems a bit messier than before..." Skye mumbles, this caused her to get bonked on the head. "Ow..." She grumbles, rubbing the place Jax hit.
"Shut up! If I hear one more comment about my place being 'a mess' I'm gonna lose it!" He says irritated.
"Looks like 'Mr. I hate lies' can't handle the truth about his cleaning habits." Skye said with a smirk.
"Stupid smartass brat!" Jax replies, messing up her hair. This caused Skye to toss her hands everywhere to try and stop his.
It's funny, their encounter of the day was only a few minutes so far and they're already playing around. It's kind of like they've known each other for a while... but they haven't right?
"Knock it off or I'll tackle you!" Skye says, trying to hold back a giggle.
"Tackle me eh? I feel like you may have to be a bit taller to overthrow me short stack." Jax says with a smirk.
"Are you trying to challenge me?" Skye asked him.
"Maybe? But what are you gonna do about it? Head but me in the nipples?" Jax smirked.
"Say goodbye to your kneecaps!" Skye says before attempting- emphasis on the the attempt- to kick his knees inward so he'd trip. But of course that didn't work. Jax simply picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder.
"Damn you're really little." Jax said. "You have the weight of a kitten." He laughs. Skye got embarrassed at that comment.
"S-Shut up! A-And put me down!" She says.
"As you wish." He smirked and tossed her on the couch, but he didn't do it too roughly, that way he wouldn't hurt her.
"You're such a jerk." Skye pouted, trying to fix her hair, since it got messy from their little 'play-fight'. The little comment got Jax to chuckle.
"Damn I haven't rough-housed like that since I was a brat." Jax said.
"I don't think I've ever 'rough-housed'." Skye said with a laugh. "It's weird to think we've only met at least a month ago on a train and now we're already 'fighting'." She thought aloud with a small smile.
Damn, she practically said what Jax was thinking. But that question still needed to be asked. "Hey..." He says.
Skye glanced at him. "Hmm?" She said. "What is it?"
He opened his mouth, but the words wouldn't come out, so he closed it again. He knew what he wanted to say, but he couldn't say it. Why couldn't he say it?!
Jax sighed. "It's... Never mind. I'll ask later..." He says.
"Are you sure?" Skye asked confused.
"Yeah..." He mutters. Skye sighed, worriedly and then changed the subject.
Skye was still confused, but decided not to push it. "Hey. We should clean your place up." She says.
"Eh? I thought I said not to mention it!" He replies, obviously irritated.
"It's better to do it now than later... And besides you have me to help you out!" The girl smirked proudly. The male was a bit surprised, the girl was actually willing to help him... and she seemed a bit different from the antisocial brat he met almost two months ago.
"What is it?" The blonde asked, noticing his surprised expression.
"Oh, it's nothing. It's just... it's weird having someone help me out. I'm usually doing these kind of things myself." The male chuckled awkwardly.
"Oh alright. I understand... but now you have me. So I guess it's gonna keep being weird to you." Skye said, as if it was completely normal to her. Well it probably was because she takes care of her little sister. Wait. Does this mean he reminds her of a child? The thought ticked Jax off a bit.
"Skye. Are you actually thinking of me as a brat right now?" Jax asked, looking irritated.
"Huh? What do you mean?" The girl asked.
"Am I like a kid to you?!" He asked.
The girl looked confused. She then started laughing. "What?" She says. "No I don't think of you as a kid. Why'd you think that?"
"Because you're actually helping me clean up my place. You probably do the same thing with kids." The older man pouted a little.
"If you're talking about Eliza she actually keeps her stuff neat. So I don't have to help her much." Skye says with a bit of a giggle.
"Are you saying I'm worse than a brat?!" Jax shouts irritated.
"I never said that." Skye laughed. "I'm just trying to help you. We're friends right? Friends help each other." That word. Friends. Even though he's used that word himself it still seemed so foreign to him. "Now come on, help me get your things in order."
"Tch, fine." Jax grumbles, he grabbed a random trash bag and put all the stuff he didn't need in it. Unfortunately he did it a bit too fast... "Ow!" He shouted. He immediately pulled his hand back and glanced at it, there was a cut. He looked to see what cut it. "Damn broken glass..."
"Jax?! What's wrong?" Skye heard him shout a bit and walked up to him. She noticed what he was looking at and there was a cut on his hand. "There's a cut." She says.
"Yeah... It's fine. I'll deal with it later." He says, about to pick up something else to stuff in the bag. His hand was stopped by two smaller, paler, hands grabbing his wrist.
"We should deal with it now." Skye says. "It could get infected."
"I said, it's fine." Jax mumbles.
"It may be fine to you. But I worry so I want to help you." Skye says, a worried expression on her face.
Jax found it looking familiar, with those dead eyes and a worried look... almost like a memory. But it wasn't. Right?
He snapped out of it. "Tch, fine, whatever makes you happy."
Skye nodded. "Good. Stay here I'm getting some things." She mutters.
A few moments later she came back with rubbing alcohol, two rags, one of them were wet, and bandages.
"It's just a cut, why'd you bring all that shit?" Jax asked her.
"It could get infected, I already told you this. Now sit down." Skye says, sitting on her knees, waiting for him to do the same.
"Tch, whatever..." Jax mumbled. He'd never want to tell her this but he was happy someone cared this much about him to try and 'heal' him even if it was only a cut. The male erased that thought from his head and sat in front of her.
Skye carefully poured a little bit of rubbing alcohol on the dry rag. "This may sting a bit. So just bear with me." The female says before gently rubbing the cut with the cloth. The male had made a hiss like noise from the sting.
"Sorry! Did it hurt?" Skye says nervously.
"Don't worry about it. Just do what you need to. I've been in worse shit." The dark haired male gave her a reassured smile, which made the blonde sigh a bit in relief.
A few moments of silence passed until Jax asked her, "Where'd you even learn how to do this?" He says, noticing she did a pretty decent job on handling the wound.
"I've had to do this a lot to myself actually... I learn tips online and at school." She says, finishing up wrapping the bandage around his hand. "Why?"
"It's just you did a nice job... I guess." He says. This made the girl smile a little. "Don't let that go to your head! It was just a compliment!" Jax quickly stated after.
Skye couldn't help but laugh at quick change in behavior. He was like a kid, she had to admit that... but a pretty cute one. 'No! Don't think that!' Skye quickly thought to herself. 'Besides he wouldn't like you like that and you've only known him for two months.' She stopped laughing for a moment, and that laughter was replaced with a small blush and a small doubtful look.
Jax noticed her little behavior change, how happy she was, and then how depressed she got right after.
"Skye? You okay?" He asked her.
"Eh?!" Skye jumped a bit, a bigger blush on her face. "Y-Yeah I'm fine." She replied, standing up. "I think I may have overstayed my welcome. I should head home..." She was about to head out the door until something, or someone, grabbed her wrist.
"Skye... wait... I've been meaning to ask you this for the past month... but..." Jax bit his lip a little before finally opening his mouth and saying. "Do I know you from somewhere?"
This caught Skye off guard. What did he mean? They didn't know each other until a few months ago. Right?
"Skye?" The blonde looked at the male, noticing he had a surprised expression on his face.
"Eh..? What's... wrong?" Skye felt something on her face. She was crying? Why was she crying? She wiped her tears.
"Sorry... but I don't think we have..." Skye says, pulling her arm away from him. "I should really be going home..." She said.
Skye then left quickly left his apartment. As soon as she was no longer at his door Jax closed it.
He slammed his head against it. "I really screwed that up... I'm such a dumbass..." He mumbled to himself.
"Did I... mess up?" Skye mumbled to herself, walking home.
I just wanted to say a few things! I know it may seem like things are getting a bit fast paced but I'm putting in a lot of time skips and just want to get through the major points of the story (it's supposed to be a short story after all). Like how I said they've known each other for like 2 months when it really seems like a few days. I just felt like it'd seem less awkward if they knew each other longer. So as this story progresses I'm probably putting in more time skips (like years possibly) and I hope you understand!
