Chapter 25
This was weird...
It was so pretty, there was bright green grass and beautiful flowers adorning the ground and few trees were planted, but just enough to make the land look so perfect.
Skye looked around, where was she?
"Skye?! Skye?!"
"Jax?!" She shouted his name, looking all over.
"Skye!" He says happily, running up to her.
The blonde felt like she was wanted to cry, she was here, with him. They were fine... But where was here?
The young woman hugged him. "Jax... where are we?" She asked. She tried to remember what happened. Then it hit her. They both got shot, they were both... "Jax?! Are we dead?!"
The male just laughed. "No, idiot. This is just your dream. You're alive and fine."
"What about you...? You were in worse pain than I was." Skye wanted to cry again. "I'm sorry... maybe if I was there in time you would've-"
The girl was cut off by a kiss. Skye was more than surprised.
He pulled away after a moment. "Don't worry about that. You know who I am, right? It takes a lot more than a few bullets to take me down. Hell, it took a lot more than a slash from my own scythe to take me down."
Skye smiled a little. "Yeah... you're right."
"Now, if you want to see my condition for yourself, I think it's about time you wake up."
~
"Ah!" Skye quickly sat up from her bed- well what she thought was her bed. She looked around and noticed she wasn't in the church anymore... in fact... she wasn't even in her own house... where was she?
"Eh?" She muttered confused. She heard a few beeping sounds and noticed a screen next to her. A heart rate monitor...? Which means...
She's in the hospital. She made it out and to the hospital again! And this time she can live happily with-
Jax...! She has to find him!
She snapped out of thought when she heard a door next to her hospital room open. She noticed a familiar girl. It was none other than her little sister.
"S-Skye?! You're up!" She says happily.
"Eliza...?!" Skye said. "You're okay! Thank goodness!"
"Of course I am, all it was was a shot to the arm, nothing bad." She said, showing her sister her bandaged up arm.
Skye sighed in relief. "Anyways, how long was I out?"
"A couple of months... you lost a lot of blood and apparently hit the ground really hard." Eliza says.
"Months?!" Skye shouted. "Wait... that means... please tell me mom and dad didn't-!"
"They didn't hurt me. After all, they were arrested and now we have a restraining order against them." Eliza explains, sitting down in a chair beside the bed.
"Arrested...?!" Skye said, even more surprised.
"Yeah, apparently aside from abuse they did some other shady things which caused them to stay in jail for a while. I ended up staying with the reverend for a few weeks and now I'm living with my friend until you fully recover."
"Oh...? Wait... arrested... was Jax...?" She didn't even want to finish her sentence.
"Nope. He wasn't." Eliza glanced around to see if anyone was in earshot and then leaned in to whisper something to her sister. "They never figured out he was the serial killer. The scythe was burned down, so they had no evidence and then doctor ended up having his finger prints on the gun, so he was claimed guilty for harming you and Jax."
"Wow... I'm glad." Skye said with another sigh of relief. She then started to undo the vital monitor mechanisms on her body.
"Wait, Skye! What are you doing?!" Eliza says.
"I think you know what I'm doing." Skye says, after removing them all.
"You need to wait for a doctor-!" Eliza got cut off by Skye already leaving the room. The younger girl then sighed. "Skye must truly be an idiot in love..." She mutters with a small smile. "I'm happy for her..."
~
'What am I doing?! I don't even know what floor he's on!' Skye was running up the stairs of the hospital, she didn't know where to run... but something was guiding her, whether it was instinct or fate, she'd never know, but she was thankful it was on her side.
She stopped at a random room on the second floor. The room number was B6. This seemed like a funny coincidence... but she felt like this was his room...
She slowly brought her hand up to the door and lightly knocked.
There was no response, but she knew someone was in there... they either didn't want to be bothered or weren't up yet.
She put her hand on the lock and carefully turned it. 'It's unlocked!'
She hesitantly pushed open the door.
There she saw a man looking out the window of his room. He was looking out at the pretty morning sunlight... the sunlight seeped through the glass, like how it did on that one train ride a couple years ago.
The man turned his head and stared the blonde girl in the eyes. His gold eyes, staring into her dull blue ones, except this time, there was a small light, a small bit of life in them.
The man smiled at her. "Are you alright?" Just like the first time he saw her on the train that one day...
Skye stood there, crystal colored tears slowly welding in her eyes.
"I..." She doesn't know what to say. So she didn't say anything.
She ran to him and hugged him tight. She started crying and crying. All her tears of joy leaving her, being so glad he's okay, thanking him for everything's he's done up to this moment.
He didn't say anything and just smiled, wrapping his arms around her. This was also his silent way of thanking her... thanking her for giving him everything he has now, thanking her for not being alone anymore.
~
It's now been a year since Skye and Jax were out of the hospital, and Skye is now eighteen, an official adult.
As promised, Gray had given her, Jax and Eliza a new place to live and the house was perfect for the three of them. It was a decent size and had a kitchen, living room, dining room, and a few bathrooms. It even had three bedrooms so Eliza and Skye can now sleep in separate rooms.
It's been great to have this new home, there was no harm and it was in a secluded area so no one would bother coming to the house.
Gray however would sometimes come by to give them money and help teach Eliza since she's only eleven and needs help with education since now she can't go to school, but he'll only teach her what Skye can't.
Yeah... it was perfect for them... and they hope to keep living that way.
~
It's now night and Jax was sleeping, well that was until Skye had stumbled in and sat on the edge of the bed.
"What do you need Skye?" He asked, his voice and expression were both tired.
"Sorry... but something's been on my mind for a while and I just need to get it off my chest..." Skye muttered.
Jax sighed and sat up, he turned on the small lamp on the bedside table and looked at her. "Alright, shoot."
"I've wondered this for the past year and I still am, but... have you ever figured out why you kissed me that day?" She asked.
"Huh...? Oh... right..." Jax sighed and his look of being tired turned to be a somewhat embarrassed one. "Well... I sorta had an idea why..."
"Oh. Why then?" Skye's heart was racing. She didn't know why... he probably doesn't even know the correct terminology and she'll probably just be letdown again.
"Skye... when I lived in the back alleys as Zack and for the start of being Jax, I saw a lot of shit. There was a lot of kissing and... yeah... but I never understood why people did what they did. I assumed it was all for money and because they were drunk as shit... but then I met you... and realized maybe not all of it was for those reasons..."
"Eh...?" Skye muttered.
"Look. What I'm trying to say is that I've heard the phrase 'I love you' before and never understood it. Especially the term love. It made me sick, honestly. But you came into my life and then I started to understand it, and when I started to understand that I realized that maybe that term wasn't so sickening after all..." Jax continued.
"Jax are you saying?-"
"Yeah, I'm saying, I love you, dumbass." He said with a sigh. "And I don't want to lose you ever, you got that?"
Skye didn't know what to say, so he did understand it... and he said it to her...
"H-Hey quit cryin'!" He said. "I didn't upset you, did I?! I know I'm a disgusting mon-"
She shut him up by kissing him, he wasn't a monster, and she wasn't upset, she was more than happy. And she was telling him that, not verbally... but she's sure he got the message.
"S-Sorry..." She said, the shy expression on her face, turned to an annoyed one right after. "Also, don't call yourself a monster. You know I hate that. You're Jax and Jax only."
Jax chuckled. "Yeah, I got it. And you're Skye and only Skye."
They both laughed for a moment. It was so comforting being around one another.
"Hey... Jax." Skye said, after they stopped laughing. "Remember that promise we made, the 'What Happens After Death?' one?"
"Yeah. What about it?" He asked.
"I realized it for a while now, but... I find it kind of funny how it meant something else too, not just a promise."
"What do you mean?"
"Well... after our first deaths what happened was we reincarnated into who we are now... and after we met we made that promise... it's a weird observation, I know but... it's weird how things turned out." Skye says.
Jax chuckled. "You're right... you're quite the smart and observant woman, huh?"
"I guess I am." She says with a laugh. "Also... Jax, I forgot to say this but..."
"Hm?"
"I love you too."
