Chapter 23

Hey! I know today is not a Saturday, but since I finished writing the story I will now upload parts daily! So I hope you enjoy it! ^^

"Fire...!" Skye shouted. "Guys we need to get out!"

Eliza ran ahead and got out of the building, meanwhile, Jax froze. No. Not again. Not in this life too. Skye looked at him. 'Oh no...'

Skye grabbed his arm. "Come on, Jax! It's okay! We'll get out together! I won't let you get burned this time! I promise!"

"I promise!" That seemed to snap Jax back into reality. Right. This was a different situation, it's not like before. This time, he won't get burned, Rachel is here, Skye is here.

"R-Right... sorry." Jax says. "Let's go."

Skye practically pushed him out of the apartment. "Meet me in the alley! I need to grab something!" Skye says.

"But Skye-"

"I'll be okay! I swear!" She shouts, before running into the kitchen to grab whatever she needed. 'I won't be unarmed this time.'

~

"Skye! Are you okay?" Jax asked. "You almost gave me a fucking heart attack!"

"I'm okay, don't worry." Skye says with a small smile.

Jax let out a sigh of relief until his attention turned to her arm. There was a dark mark on it.

"Your arm." Jax mutters.

"It's just a small burn. It's okay-" Rachel was cut off by Jax holding her close to him.

"Dammit." He whispered. 'I couldn't protect her last time and I can't protect her this time either.' "Skye..."

"Yeah? What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong... After all this is over though... I need to tell you something. But for now, you don't need to protect me... in fact I should be the one protecting you." He says.

"I need to tell you something." Skye's face bloomed a dark red color. What did he need to tell her?

"Hey, lovebirds! It's not the best time to be getting all touchy-feely!" A young voice shouted.

Both young adults quickly pulled away from each other with a small blush, after realizing what they were doing. "E-Eliza!" Skye said, running up to her sister. "Are you hurt anywhere?" She asked, immediately checking for burns or cuts.

"No, I'm fine..." Eliza says. "But... where do we go now?" She asked. "Jax's place is burned down, going back to our house could probably get us killed... there's no where left for us."

"Eliza..." Skye muttered. 'No. Her childhood can't turn into shambles. Mine was horrible in the past... she deserves so much better... that's why I'll make sure it is.' "That's not true."

"Eh?" Eliza mumbled.

"We still have another place..." Skye says. She then looked at Jax, he understood what she meant.

"Oh yeah, we do." Jax says with a smirk.

"Huh? Where?" Eliza asked.

Skye gently patted her head. "Let's get to the church first." She says.

~

"Yo, ya old creep! We've got some news!" Jax yelled as the three entered the church.

"You need to work on entering subtly." Skye muttered.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll work on that later." He mutters. "Anyways lets find the old man."

"He's probably in the back room." Skye muttered.

"Should I stay out here, again?" Eliza asked.

"No. Not this time. Right now, it's dangerous. The doctor most likely knows where we are. He knew where we were staying, so I'm assuming he knows our next move. Besides, I think you should hear this too." Skye says.

"Now I'm allowed to know things..." Eliza mumbles, rolling her eyes.

"Eliza. The only reason we did that was because we thought it was too much for you to handle." Skye says.

"Well I seem to be handling the situation just fine." Eliza says.

Skye sighed a bit. "Look. I'm sorry we did that. But now is not the time. Let's just talk with the reverend. We need some good news after all that has happened."

"I thought I heard voices out here." A male voice said, coming out of the back room.

"Oh, old man. Just in time, we wanted to have a talk." Jax says.

"A talk. About what?" The old man says.

"I'm sure you know what it's about." Jax says. "That new house you mentioned."

"Eh?! We're going to live somewhere else?!" Eliza says surprised.

"Well, as I said, it needed to take some time." Gray said with a sigh. "Why do you need to know about that now?"

"Because... that apartment you bought for me... someone decided it'd be fun to burn it to the ground." Jax explains.

"Oh?" He says surprised. "I can only assume who that someone might be... Daniel Dickens... well in this life I presume he goes by Morgan."

"Yeah. You're probably right. Although, we didn't get a good look at the asshole, that's my number one guess." Jax says.

"Reverend. Do you have any idea where he may be?" Skye asked. "We didn't see him while coming here and he wasn't near the apartment when the fire started."

"No... I'm sorry to say, but I have no clue where he is at the moment... however, it's better that you be on your guard. Who knows what that man is planning. He has knowledge from this life and the last." The priest says.

"Right..." Skye mutters.

"Okay... so until this whole problem is solved and until we have a new place to stay, where will we live until the time comes?" Jax asked.

"Well, there's a secret few rooms downstairs you three can take if you're interested." Gray says.

"Fine with me." Jax says.

"Anything will be fine." Skye says with a small smile, Eliza nodded her reply.

Jax yawned after a few minutes and lazily put his arms behind his head. "Anyways where're the rooms? I'm beat." The man said.

The priest nodded. "They're right this way." He said as he started walking.

Skye still stood there. Something didn't seem right. No. Something was definitely wrong. What was it.

She heard something. It was similar to a click.

As if a gun had been loaded.

No.

She knows what's going to happen.

There's a gun.

It's pointed at him.

If she doesn't do something he'll...

"Jax...!"

The man turned, hearing his name called, he felt a push and fell into the pews.

'What just happened?' He was confused.

But his confusion quickly went away as he saw someone walk into the church and the smaller girl kneel down to her older sister.

"Skye!"
