Chapter 17

Jax was breathing heavily, he didn't know what to say... so he didn't say anything at all.

'I got through to him... I'm glad.' Skye thought with a small smile adorning her face.

It was only a few minutes, but felt like eternity, until Jax said something.

"Ray- no... Skye... I want to go home." He whispers.

"Then... lets do that..." Skye says. "Grab your scythe, first. We don't want anyone on your tail." She laughed a little.

"I don't understand... how can you still be happy? I almost killed you and yet, you're still laughing..." He mutters, pulling away from the embrace.

"It's because I finally figured out everything... I finally get to meet you again... even if it is different than before, you and I are back together... except we aren't Zack and Ray anymore... we're Jax and Skye now." The girl says with a small smile, she looked up at the male and her eyes widened. "A-Are you okay?!"

"Huh? What do you mean?" Jax asked, his vision then became blurry and he wiped his eye with his hand... he was crying. For the first time in his life, he cried. "Damn... I've become such a weak coward in this new life..." He chuckled.

Skye smiled a bit. "You're not weak... you've just always been so strong... you need to cry once in a while. It's okay... it's normal... after all, you are human."

'You are human.' Those words... he remembers the first time he heard them, and hearing her say them to him again made him want to hug her a second time.

"Damn it." He mutters with a chuckle.

"What?" She asked. "Is something wrong?"

"It's nothing, don't worry." There was a slight blush on his face, regretting his choice of thought. He then cleared his throat. "Anyways lets get going."

Both companions started walking back to Jax's apartment until Skye thought of something. 'I'm definitely forgetting something-'

"Not again." Skye mumbles.

"Huh? What's wrong?" Jax asked.

"Eliza. I left her in the hospital and forgot!" Skye says with a tone of panic.

"The hospital? Did she actually get hurt that bad?" Jax asked, remembering Eliza had been wounded a couple days before.

"No. We were checking on old friends that you apparently almost killed..." Skye says, Jax's face went blank.

"Oh."

"Yeah. Now hurry and put your scythe away so we can pick her up."

"Fine." Jax mutters before they both continued walking.

~

The two had quietly walked back to the place and were now quietly walking to the hospital. It wasn't an awkward walk- well maybe a little since they didn't know what to talk about- but it was kind of nice just being in each other's company. After all it felt like they haven't seen each other in a long time, even though it was only a few days.

Although that niceness soon ended when Skye came to a shock and abrupt stop.

"Ray- I mean Skye! You alright?" Jax asked, noticing the shocked expression and body movement. She was kind of shaking a little in fear and nervousness.

"Stay right here. Please. I'll be out in a sec, I just need to check on something." Skye mutters before running off.

"Hey! Wait!" Jax yelled, but it was too late since the blonde already ran off and into the building.

'If my suspicions were correct then that was father's car... oh no-' Her thoughts were quickly caught off when she ran into someone.

'Ow...' She looked up to see who ran into and immediately regretted it. It was the man she dreaded to see. The man that has been ruining her life.

Her father.

"Ah, here you are, my dear daughter." The blonde man had faked his smile and his sickening words. His eyes showed that he was pissed with her. She looked down and noticed he had a tight grip on a small wrist. It was her sister's.

Eliza had a horrified expression and to be honest Skye would too if most of her emotions weren't shut away.

"We should be heading home now." The man said before grabbing the older girl's wrist tightly and dragging her out of the building.

Once they were out Skye looked around and saw a startled expression on Jax's face.

The girl just gave the guy a small guilty smile and a look that said. 'I'm sorry,' and, 'Don't worry, I'll be okay.'

Once the girl's were practically forced into the backseat of the car and they huddled together. No way were they getting out of this.

The younger sister looked at the seventeen year old girl. A sorrowful look on her face and a 'What do we do?' type of expression. All Skye did was hug her sister close and try and quietly did actions to soothe her the best she could.

~

Silence. Skye was hit with a chair, but silently took the hit.

"That's what you get for disobeying me and running off for some asshole, you slut!" The father yelled.

Skye couldn't speak, she could only breathe heavily.

"Skye...!" Eliza mutters.

"You brat! Go up to your room, you'll be dealt with later!"

Eliza bit her lip, she glanced at her sister. Skye was looking straight through her... as if she were dead. It was so hard to tell.

"Go." Was all Skye mouthed to Eliza.

Eliza immediately nodded and ran up to her room. She slammed her door and sat up against it. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She repeated over and over again while listening to her father's shouts and slaps, as well as furniture being thrown against not only Skye, but the wall as well.

~

'It hurts.' Skye thought, laying on her bed. She couldn't sleep, she was curled up on her bed, she felt so much pain and was slipping in and out of consciousness.

"Skye...?" Eliza mumbles, opening her door. Skye recognized the voice and sat up.

"Eliza. We need to leave. For good." Skye says, she needs to stay as conscious as she can, just so she can keep Eliza safe.

"Where are we supposed to go?" Eliza asked.

"Jax's." They'll be fine when they get to Jax's. He's Jax. Not Zack. He's no longer a serial killer. He's Jax.

"Eh? But isn't he sort of... Y'know a serial killer?" Eliza says, pointing out what her sister said before.

"I'll explain it later... but let's go." Skye says with a demanding tone.

Eliza bit her lip again, but sighed. "Okay." The smaller girl opened the window. "Now. The usual route."

"Yeah... can you help me get down though? My waist kind of hurts." Skye says. That wasn't the whole truth, everything hurt, but she can't worry the younger girl.

The younger girl nodded and took the older girl's hand. They took their usual route down the tree and carefully onto the ground so they were at the side of their house.

"Okay, lets get going!" Eliza says. "But you need to explain everything on the way."

"I will. Calm down." Skye says.

Eliza started walking but stopped when she heard a small crash to the ground behind her.

Eliza turned around. "Skye?" Eliza mumbles. "H-Hey Skye?" She knelt down beside her and listen for her heartbeat. 'It's there but... slow...'

"S-Skye. Open your eyes. Please! Skye!" Eliza says, holding the older girl's pale hand. "S-Skye! C-Come on! Not yet! Not yet!"

Eliza was begging and begging, tears were present in her eyes. "Come on..."

"Do you need help?"

Eliza whipped her head around and when she saw when she saw who it was her eyes widened and she gripped her sister's hand tighter.
