6- Awkward Small Talk
Sephy's pov
Mason Klein was looking at me. His dark hair looked tousled by the wind and his grey eyes held an undertone of worry.
Wow. I really must look pathetic. I thought sourly. I quickly try to wipe the tears off my face, but it's too late. He's already seen them.
He briskly walks over to me and throws his arm around my shoulder. I feel tingles where his arm is, bringing me back to when I used to have a crush on him.
Flashback
"Woah Sephy, are you okay?"
I look up from where I'm crying on a bench in the park. "What are you doing here" I ask quietly, while trying and failing to cover up my sniffling.
"I live near" He said. "Oh".
After a moment of hesitation he plops himself next to me. "What's wrong" he asks curiously. "I don't think Kacy likes me anymore" I say through tears. Just the thought of her not wanting to be my best friend anymore makes more tears spring out of my eyes.
"Why not?" he asks curiously. It takes me a while to decide whether I should tell him or not. "She thinks I stole her favourite bracelet" I say through tears. "But I didn't".
"She thinks I stole it because it's really expensive and she knows I'm not that rich. We looked everywhere but we still couldn't find it" I say.
Mason stays quiet but decides to lean over and hug me. His hug sends warmth shooting through my body. We stay there for a while, him comforting me while I cry. For the first time in a while I feel comfortable and relaxed. Eventually we both stand up.
"Thanks" I say. I quickly dry my tears and try to compose myself. "You didn't have to help me.
"It's fine" he replies. Then he kissed me on the forehead. "Kacy is your best friend, something like this won't completely end your friendship, and if it does then maybe she wasn't such a great friend in the first place" he says gently.
In that moment I realised to things. One, he was right and two he had the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen.
Flashback over
I snap out of my memory once I realise that Mason has been calling me. He guides me over to the bench and we sit there just relaxing. We sit together for a while before he breaks the silence.
"Just like old times, right?" he says and I agree with him. This too many times before. This used to be my favourite place in the world before it happened.
We sit there talking about useless things. I'm grateful that he would actually spend his time to comfort me. Before I know it I feel better..... And three hours has passed. As soon as I realise this I jump out of his arms.
"Crap, I completely forgot that I need to pick up my little sister from her friend's house" I say. I'm beginning too panic.
God, I'm such an idiot
"Its okay" he says calmly. "I'll walk with you".
Together we walk in silence all the way to Riley's friend's house. I glance up at him from time to time and notice that he seems to be thinking deeply about something.
Once we arrive at the house, Mason starts to frown. "You do realise that this is my house right?" he asks me. "Wait is your sister Faye?" I question him. "Yeah" he replies.
But this makes no sense. I've been here before and yet I've never seen him here
"How come I never see you here?" I ask him. "Well" he sighs, "Usually I'm at hockey practice and then after the team and I go somewhere to eat, but I've decided to quit this year"
"You quit?" I ask surprised
I thought he really liked hockey
"Yeah" he responds. "I've decided that it's not really my thing". He looks a little bit sad about it but apart from that he seems okay.
He then proceeds to root through his pockets to find his keys. Eventually after going through all the old receipts and gum wrappers, he finds his keys and opens the door.
"Come in" he says, and I enter. I look around his house in awe. This is the kind of house that I would have loved when I was younger. There were photos of cool trips and amazing places up on the walls. The hallway had wooden floors and an interesting looking light piece that cast different colours all over the room in the center it.
Woah
"Give me one second and I'll get your sister down the stairs" he tells me. "Wait" I stop him, "Can I use the bathroom first?" I ask him
"Sure" he replies. "It's just down the hall, first thing on your left" he says. "Thank you" I respond and then I make my way to the bathroom.
Once I enter the bathroom, I'm suddenly hit by a bout of dizziness. I quickly do my business and stand up to go wash my hands. When I suddenly fall down.

Uknown
I quickly take out my phone and send a photo of the diary entry along with the caption 'You know what you have to do'.
I look at the watch and realise that it's time to go now

I wake up on the floor with a killer headache. 5 minutes has passed. Very quickly, I wash my hands and leave the bathroom.
"Are you alright?" Mason asks me with concern lacing his eyes. "I'm fine" I reply not meeting his eyes. He definitely knows that I'm lying. We sit next to each other for a while, waiting for his sister and Riley to come downstairs.
I look up and see him check his phone. He looks anxious. He tries to disguise his anxiousness by making small talk with me.
Finally after minutes of awkward small talk, the finally arrive. "Hi Sephy" my sister says and I greet her back. I say goodbye to Mason and then proceed to usher Riley to my car.
"Woah, no need to rush me" she says
"You know Mom will kill me if I don't get you home quickly" I respond.
She nods with understanding. I quickly enter my car and drive us home almost speeding along the roads. When I get home, Mom is standing at the door and I know I'm in for it.
