Unexpected Guests

Dick knew he was getting worse and to be honest he was extremely angry at the Titans for saving his life and at Wally for taking care of him.

Why couldn't they just leave me to die? There would be no more anger or fear... and no more pain.

Dick adjusted his position in the bed so that he was now sitting cross-legged.

Why is it so hard to die?

He turned the TV on and quickly regretted it.

It was a live broadcast of the Haley Circus.

They were somewhere on the other side of the country now and despite the new faces of the crew there were also some familiar ones.

They were getting older though. Likely to retire soon.

Dick shook his head, that fleeting moment of comfort gone as quickly as it came.

He picked up the remote with the intent of turning the channel when the camera suddenly zoomed in on a young woman, probably only a few years older than Dick.

She was about to perform an acrobatic act.

Dick's eyes widened and he slowly lowered the remote.

Of course. After my family and the Daring Dangers... it was only practical to get another acrobat.

She had her golden hair in a ponytail and it seemed like she had... almost purple eyes.

Probably contacts. We used to wear those to make our eyes stand out during the performances.

She certainly had a confident air about her.

And she was very skilled.

She executed her performance flawlessly, as was evident by her beaming smile and the crowd's standing ovation.

The camera then zoomed out just enough to show Jack Haley himself.

The man has certainly aged but is still unmistakably the same man he saw as his grandfather during his circus days.

Haley was obviously pleased with her performance.

He always did say change was inevitable...

Dick sighed and lowered his gaze slightly until something on screen caught his eyes.

On the lower left side of the screen, there was a poster on a bill board.

Oh...

It was a poster of the Flying Grayson's.

At least no one has forgotten... at least they still care.

And he never really did pay too much attention to their symbol, he was just a small child after all, but now as he takes a closer look at it...

A bird... that gives me an idea.

A sharp pain spread through his chest, the first one that hour. The sudden pain made him clutch his chest and gasp.

If I even live long enough...

The pain has become less frequent since he came to the West-Allen household but it has nearly tripled in pain severity.

A moment passed before the shock of pain passed and he was able to breathe normally again.

He carefully slid off the bed and made for the bathroom, this time looking for some pain meds.

He just opened the medicine cabinet when he heard a loud thump from the bedroom.

Sounds like something hit the window!

He instinctively reached for his waist before his face turned into an irritated scowl.

Right... they took away everything sharp I had earlier.

Irritating? Yes. But beneath his irritation he understood their reasoning.

Regardless, he entered the bedroom and found... a green bird fluttering in front of the window.

"Beast Boy!"

Dick, ignoring the fact that he's maskless, went to the window as quickly as he could without causing another painful episode.

As soon as he opened the window, Beast Boy flew in along with a gust of cold winter air.

As soon as the window was shut again, Beast Boy quickly turned to his normal form.

"Gar? How did you find me?"

Gar brushed a hand through his hair to get rid of the remaining snow crystals and offered Dick a meek smile.

"Well I knew where Star City was and once I found the city I just used my bloodhound nose to find you."

"Did any of the others follow you here?"

Gar quickly shook his head but a dark portal opened up in the room.

"Or maybe someone did..."

Raven quickly emerged but Dick was past the point of being surprised and merely had a neutral expression.

"Beast Boy was right to check on you. After he left I started meditating on your condition. I think I know how to help you."

The dark atmosphere quickly lightened some after that but the two visiting heroes stiffened as a knock was heard from the bedroom door.

Gar simply froze because of the sudden sound.

Raven froze because she sensed who was behind the door.

Dick on the other hand had no clue. He merely rolled his eyes and started towards the door.

"Great. Let's just have a party in here!"

He got halfway to the door until it opened.

Now it was Richard's turn to freeze.

It was Bruce Wayne.
