Chapter 3•

The hot summer air fills the car as we drive past on the freeway. I drum my fingers on the steering wheel with the beat.

"Soo what are we doing this summer?" Kyla says while bopping her head to the music.

"Whatever you want, I usually just lounge around the house or at the private beach which we can access from our backyard," I say as I keep my eyes trained on the road. Kyla starts trying to jump up and down in her seat.

"Do you need to pee?"I ask.

"No, I'm just very excited," She exclaims.

"Didn't notice," I mumble sarcastically.

"Hey! I heard that!" She exclaims once again and slaps my arm.

"Omg! I love this song!!" She shouts excitedly and starts singing off tune. I roll my eyes and mime the song while bobbing my head.

----------------

"We're here," I say as we drive down the driveway towards the beach house.

The house is double story with white weatherboard and a veranda that stretches all the way around the house. (Ill add a picture later, wattpad is stuffing up)

"Oh wow," Kyla breathes out.

"Yeah it's pretty cool, huh," I say smugly. Take pride in what you have, that's my life quote

"Cool, just cool? This is awesome, I want to live here!!" Kyla gushed staring wide eyed at the house as we pull up. As soon as I stop the car she jumps out and runs to the front door, I was in amusement. Doesn't she realise we need keys to open the door, and they are in my hand. I decide to wait on her to see how long she takes to realise she needs keys to enter the house.

"Uhh Tegan can I have the keys?" Kyla asks nervously. She looks like a five year old. I point my finger to the car where all of our bags are. We mouth goes into an 'O' shape and walks back down to me. This is going to take a while.

---------

After what feels like forever we manage to get our bags inside and into our rooms.

"Argh why was that so hard?" I groan as I flop on the couch.

"I agree, who knew clothes could be so heavy," Kyla nods in agreement and joins me on the couch.

She suddenly sits up with an excited grin on her face.

"Let's go to the beach!" She squeals and drags me upstairs to get changed.

"Ugh do we have to, I would rather just sit on the couch and watch movies," I whine like a five year old, I guess I'm the five year old now.

"No, this summer holidays we aren't lounging on the couch at all. The beach is literally in our backyard, I heard that there's a festival soon on that beach, we have to go," Kyla states leaving no room for an argument. I huff and walk into my room.

"Meet me in 5," I shout from inside my room.

"Thats the spirit!" She replied back. I groan and head over to my suitcase and begin the search for my bathers.

It took me much more than five minutes to find my bathers and ur them on, so by the time I meet Kyla outside my door she is already dressed in her black bikini while I'm in my navy blue and white stripe bikini. I feel really self conscious about my body so I put a shirt over me that will cover my stomach.

"Agh, finally. You took your time," she whines and turns around to see what I'm wearing.

"Do you not have bathers or something?" She asks as she looks at my shirt.

"Or something," I respond vaguely.

"That doesn't answer my question you dumbo," She says and flicks some hair out of her eyes.

"I'm not an elephant," I say smartly trying to avoid the subject. (A/N: if you won't understand the joke scroll down to the authors note)

"I never said you were, and HEY stop trying to change the subject," She exclaims and rolls her eyes. I curse under my breath.

"I'm wearing it because I can, is that answer OK with your standards," I say in a posh voice.

"Oh darling you will never be up to my standards," Kyla replied back sarcastically in a posh voice.

"Should we go deary," I ask in a posh voice, which nsounds oddly like my grandma.

"Off we trot," She replies back and link arms with me as we walk down the house and towards the beach. As my feet meet the boiling hot sand I think, I should've brought shoes. The sound of laughter and screams enter my ears. My eyes scan over the beach looking at the little kids building sand castles, I remember those times. Kyla and I find a place under a tree in the shade.

"Wanna swim?" Kyla asks, I look at the sand in embarrassment.

"I uhh," I clear my throat, "I'm not comfortable wearing my bathers in public."

"Ohh I get it, but who cares c'mon," She says and I shy away and look at the sand that suddenly got interesting.

"Tegan, what are you not comfortable with about yourself?" Kyla asks concerned, I look up to see her with concern etched on her face.

"Everything I guess, I just feel like I have to look and be a certain way for people to like me," I say and she hums in agreement, "But I want to change I really do, can you help me?" I ask nervously. In a second her concern is gone and is replaced with a smile that's so big, I'm worried her face will split in half. She engulfs me in a hug which catches me off guard.

"Of course I'll help you," she says into my ear. "Tegan I feel like we are going to be very close friends."

"I agree."

"Now Step one of getting you confidence, when you are in your bikini don't shy away just act like you are wearing short and a shirt," She says.

I lift my shirt over my head and pace it on my towl, I stare at it hoping that maybe it might magically cover me again.

"Ok good, I don't see anything wrong with you," She says thoughtfully as her eyes scan me.

"My thighs are too big and my belly jiggles when I walk," I say embarrassed.

"Tegan, your perfect the way you are and you know what my mother told me one time when I said a similar thing, she said 'you stomach moves because it has food in it'," she says in a personation of an old lady. At that we both burst out laughing.

"Race you!" Kyla shouts and runs down towards the ocean.

"Hey that's not fair!" I shout back and run toward the water, not worrying about what people think of me.

-----------

After we swam for about thirty minutes we are now lying on our towels in the sun.

"Ok let's play 20 questions," Kyla says randomly, breaking me from focussing on the warmth of the sun.

"What's that?" I ask confused, I've heard of it but never really understood what it was.

"It's where I ask you one question about yourself and then you ask me one question about myself, and so on. Don't bother with the counting though."

"Ok cool, do you what to go first?" I ask.

"Yes ok, what makes you queasy?"

"Blood." I say straight up without any thought and mentally shiver.

"Blood? That's cool, so now I know that you won't be a surgeon or a doctor or a nurse. Basically any job that has to do with any blood," Kyla says and we both burst out laughing, it feels nice to laugh like this.

"Ok my turn," I say after we have caught our breath, "why haven't I seen you before?"

"Oh that's easy, I'm homeschooled."

"Oh how cool, I wish I was homeschooled," I say thoughtfully.

"Why's that?" Kyla asks.

"I um just don't like school," I say, it isn't a lie but it isn't the truth either.

"I would say I know how you feel, but I don't," she says with a chuckle.

"Ok, why don't you like sch-" she gets cut off by a football that gets thrown at my face.

"Argh," I groan in pain and rub my now throbbing forehead.

"Holy crap are you ok?" She asks trying to hold in her laughter but fails and bursts out laughing.

"Yeah, yeah laugh all you want while I'm here in pain," I say sarcastically, "some friend you are," I mumble under my breath.

"Hey I heard that," she exclaims.

"You were supposed to," I retort back. But before she can reply two guys are towering over us. One of them has blonde hair and blue eyes, and the other has black hair and hazel eyes.

"Umm are you ok there?" I ask self conscious because I'm in only my bikini. The blonde ones eyes scan over my body while the other ones eyes are glued to Kyla. I clear my throat to get their attention.

"Yeah we just need our ball," the blonde one replies.

"Oh is that yours?" I ask pointing to the football.

"Yeah so if you just hand us that ball we will be gone," the blonde one says with a charming smile. I get up and brush the sand off my legs and pick up the ball, I walk over to a random fence and boot the ball with all my might over the fence.

I turn back to the flabbergasted trio behind me and bush my hands to get her with a smirk and say, "maybe next time don't kick your ball at my face."

"Your going to get that," the blonde one says impatiently.

"Matt," the black headed one hisses to the blonde one, or should I say Matt. "What Jeremy?" Matt hisses back.

Jeremy clears his threat and turns to us with a smile and says, "sorry lovely ladies but we are going to be leaving you now."

Jeremy drags matt over to the fence and gets him to climb over it.

"What the hell was that?" Kyla asks me once matts over the fence.

"Oh nothing," I brush it off.

"Just remind me not to mess with you when you are mad," she says.

"Good idea," I murmur back, but my eyes are trained on the fence. A ball is thrown over the fence and Matt soon follows. As they head over to us Kyla and I get ready to leave when I feel something wet on my forehead. I look at my hand, blood. I immediately look away trying to keep my food down.

"Are you okay?" Matt asks me. I shake my head and open my mouth to speak but instead of words coming out, my breakfast does. And to make matters worse my breakfast is all over matts shirt.

Heyo!

Ok so today I got some inspiration for this book when another friend of mine experienced some very unpleasant things said to her by older kids (16 year olds)

I'm saying this and I'm saying it now, we need to be careful on what we say. It can hurt someone without us even realising.

Also the dumbo thing, dumbo is an elephant in a movie made by Disney, it's a very cute movie, (one of the three movies I have only ever cried in)

What movies/book has ever made a impact on you?

Are you liking this story or not? (Let me know)

Byee from a very saved nerd xx
