Like a chicken with my head cut off
I woke up to an empty and quiet house but I jumped out of the bed gasping for air. There wasn't a lot of time to do everything and I felt like I was going insane. We got in late last night and I know I needed to shower but I wasn't feeling it. I didn't have the head space to do such a mundane task. So I went to the kitchen and started some coffee.
Once I was sitting at the table with the cup i needed to breath and figure out what I was going to do. I knew I had to meet with the modeling agency at eleven but I still had two more pieces to design and get together. Which was insane. Because i only had two weeks to tailor everything to fit these models.
And then on top of that today Taylor and Gabby were supposed to be arriving. Maybe I'd just call and check in. "Hey gabs! How's it going?" I asked. "Fine, I'm just trying to pack stuff so we can get it loaded in Taylor's car. We'll drive hers today and then we'll fly back for the wedding. Once were done with that we'll take my car back." She said. "Oh that's a good idea, any idea when Ya'll will be here?" I asked.
"Late tonight? We'll get to the hotel and then we can meet you for breakfast in the morning." She said. "Oh that's fine, was your roommate upset that Ya'll were moving out?" I asked. "Not really, she had been considering moving in with her boyfriend but his place wasn't really big enough. So he is gonna help her with the rent. And you know the landlord he doesn't care as long as he gets his rent on time and nobody tears the place up." Gabby said. "True, I'm so touched that you guys are going to move here." I said.
"We'd do anything for you. You know that." She said. "I'm glad. You guys are really bailing me out of a tough spot here. The thought of hiring a stranger made me queasy." I admitted.
"What is that noise?" She asked. "Coffee, cup number three. It's going to be a long day." I said. "Hon that's not good." She said as if I was pathetic. "Don't do that, I add milk it's hardly coffee and I need the sugar." I said. "Okay fine. I'll see you tomorrow." She said.
"Good, okay well I'll let you get back on it. Call me in the morning." I said. "K, bye." She said hanging up. I needed food, but if I tried cooking right now it'd be garbage. So I fixed a bowl of cereal. Once I scarfed it down I went to the bathroom and took a look at myself in the mirror.
I had dark circles under my eyes. My hair was messier than usual. I put on some makeup but I couldn't tell it really helped. I didn't sleep great last night lot's of tossing and turning. I pulled my hair back into a bun. I put on some Bermuda shorts and a green and white stripped shirt. I picked up my phone to see if Hunter would answer.
He picked up. "Hey Gorgeous! How are you?" He asked. I took a shaky breath. "Honestly I've been better." I said. "Hang on a second. Guys I'm gonna take five." Hunter said. "Okay sorry about that, I needed to step outside. "Now tell me what's wrong." "Well I have so much to do and I'm not sure I can do it." I said.
"Why not? I moved to Nashville and got into the music industry. I mean it was a slow process i had to start out as a song writer y'know." He said. "Yes but, you are good!" I said. "And so are you!" He said. "I don't know about that." "Fine tell me this, what else do you need to do?" He asked. I sighed. "Well I'm meeting the modeling agency." I said. "Okay easy, then how many of your outfits are you making?" He asked.
"I don't know I haven't even locked up a manufacture." I said. "Well why not don't you think that is kind of important?" He asked. "Yes it is I know that. But I don't want to have the stuff made until we have an order for it. But honestly I thought I was going back home. That's why I didn't do that. I guess I just thought I was making some clothes ugh I don't know." I said. "Look, you are going to be fine. You are I promise. Call a manufacturer and then go to your meeting. And remember to breath. I love you it's going to be fine I promise." He said.
"Thank you, thank you so much for listening to me. And for calming me down." I said. "Of course babe, it's part of my job description as your husband." He said. "Good, I love you I'll see you soon." I said. "Sounds good, bye." Then I hung up. I found the number I had called originally about producing my line.
"Yello? Clay speaking." The gruff voice answered. I explained to him why I was calling. "Sounds good, any time you wanna meet today and we can discuss the finer points?" He asked. "Sure." "Two okay?" He asked. "Fine." "K, great I'll shoot you a text with an address. Bakery across the street here." He said. "Fine, that works. Thank you."

"Hi, can I help you?" Asked a polite lady behind the desk. "Yes, I'm Jessica. I'm here to meet with Collete. I said. "Okay, take a seat and I'll let her know you're here." She said picking up the phone on the desk. "Collete, there's a Jessica here to see you." She said. "Okay thanks. You can go in." She said looking at me. "Straight on back." She said. "Thank you." I said.
Once I had made in to the back I saw a lady coming up to me. She had black hair pulled back into a tight bun. It had streaks of silver through it. She looked to be about fifty but with her high cheekbones and bright blue eyes I could tell that she used to be a model herself back in the day. "Jessica, it's so good to meet you." She said extending her hand. I shook it.
"Okay so here's the deal. I have about twenty five girls who are free on the night of your show and would be perfect. This is my makeshift runway. Take a seat here. You'll need this." She handed me a stack of Polaroids. These are in order they will walk out in. I have green and red stickers. Green ones go on the white part here for the girls you are sure you want. Red goes here if they are a maybe. Then we'll see how many greens you have. Then we'll have the reds walk out again until we get twelve then I'll keep the red's on file in case one of the girls has to step down." She said.
"Sounds good to me." I said. She started some music and a blonde girl walked out. She had such light hair. I could see her wearing white fur and skiing or something. One by one each girl came out all equally as beautiful. I had picked nine. with five maybe's. "Okay if I call your names please step forward." She called out a list of names. "Thank you for coming, you are free to go!" She said politely dismissing them.
"Okay if I call your name again please come give your card to Jessica here, you've been selected. The rest of you line up and we're gonna go through it one more time. It only took me a minute to select the rest of the girls. "I'll give you a minute to chat with the ladies and I'll meet you out front." Said Collete. "Thank you." I said to her. "Okay, so I just need to get you guys fitted. Can Ya'll come by my house at say five? I'll see who is going to wear what. I have your measurements here so I can be thinking on it. I'll just need to do some pinning it shouldn't take long." I said. The girls all nodded and murmured their agreements.
I headed back out to the front. "Thank you again so much Jessica. I'll have the ladies meet you at the venue at three so they can get in the clothes and run through hair and makeup the day of the show." She said. Crap she's right. I'd need that. Where is my head at!? This is why I felt like I was loosing it. I wasn't prepared for this at all. Before I just designed the clothes. I didn't get the credit the company did. They also did all the work.
"That's perfect thank you, have a good day." I said. "You too bye darling." She said as I walked outside. The cereal was long gone but I had a few calls to make. So I went to mac Donald's. I know fast food is so terrible for you. But I was now starving. So while I sat in the parking lot wolfing down fries I called every single company that did hair and makeup. Yes it was sort of last minute but I finally locked down two companies.
Then I had to boogie over to the bakery to meet with Clay. I showed up five minute early. I saw a guy standing in line. He wore dirty ripped jeans and a plaid shirt. "Excuse me are you Clay?" I asked. "I am, you Jessica?" He asked I nodded as the guy behind the counter handed him his food.
I quickly ordered a cookie and took a seat. "Okay so clothes yes?" He asked pulling out a pad with tons of check marks and boxes. "Yes, I'm not sure how much I'll need until orders start rolling in." I said. "No problem, you'll have bolt's of fabric?" He asked. "Of course and I've hired two assistants. They will be your point of contact if something goes wrong or you need more fabric." I wrote down both of there cell numbers and he added them to his phone.
"Okay I'll have a crew waiting your command in two weeks is that okay?" He asked. "That would be perfect, thank you so much!" I said. "No problems. After he asked me a dozen more questions he finally agreed he had everything he needed with directions to call me should something come up. I left because I only had three hours until the models showed up.
Once I was back home I took the Polaroids with each girls measurements out. I laid the Polaroid on top of the outfit each girl would wear. Now that I had measurements for the last two girls that should go more smoothly. I mean I had a vague idea of what i wanted for the last two outfits. I just needed to actually make them.
