Children can't choose the life they go into, but they can always try and make the best of it. You can make hell into your own heaven, make the darkness turn into light, make your sadness into happiness.
Alexia was peacefully sleeping in her bed as her door was pushed open. Footsteps softly walked across the wooden floors, not making a sound as a shadowy figure made its way to the bed. The room was pitch black, no source of light to be found what so ever. Her bed shifted as a weight climbed onto the bed, slowly creeping towards the young sleeping woman. A hand began to gently shake her awake, causing the young mother to stir in her sleep.
"Alright what is it Bunny." She turned around, opening one eye as the child giggled. She flopped on her mother's back, wrapping her in a warm hug. Bunny was 4 years old, and still was the perfect child her mother asked for. She sat up, giving her little girl a kiss on the cheek as she erupted into giggles. Bunny Nova Alice Afton, daughter of Alexia Alice Young who was a single parent since her and Bunny's father had split before she was even born. Needless to say, she never had a problem with only having her mother in her life, because that was all she really needed.
"It's time for breakfast mama." She said as she hopped down from the bed. Sighing, Alexia too got up and followed the child to the kitchen. Getting set up, the two made some blueberry pancakes along with eggs together. The whole time they cooked, bunny couldn't help but tell stories from books she read.....well listened to. Alexia could help but smile, all Bunny ever did was make her smile and laugh. It was like she was just a burning ball of sunshine, lighting up the world wherever they went. Finishing cooking, the two put some chocolate and whipped cream over the pancakes before digging in.
"It's so good mama" Bunny said as she stuffed her mouth full with the sweet breakfast they had made together. Although, she never got to finish it as a sudden wave of sickness consumed her. Standing up, she quickly ran to the bathroom as she felt her stomach twist and turn. Just as she made it to the toilet, everything seemed to spin as she began to throw up.
"Maybe it's just the pancakes sweetie." Alexia said as she comforted her baby girl, who was stuck hurling everything left in her stomach into the toilet. Her mother rubbed her back, humming to her as the girl kept vomiting everything in her system. She didn't understand, was the child allergic to the chocolate they used?
"Mama I'm tired." Bunny whined, finally finished emptying her system. She felt very weak, her body now craving a long and peaceful sleep. Alexia only noded, helping the child stumble to her bedroom. Everything was either black or blue, simulating the night sky with her nightlight that lit up the entire room with stars and dots. She tucked the small girl in, giving her cheek a kiss as she whispered a small goodnight. Bunny didn't respond, quickly falling asleep as the cover was pulled over her.
"I don't understand" Alexia said, closing the door as she left the room. Was it an allergic reaction, or did her body just not want any pancakes today. Oh well, maybe it's just a reaction to the strange combination. She sighed, going down to wash the dishes they had made dirty.
Not all children are perfect, they're not always what you dream of.
