What Broke Peter Pan?
It had been everything Reilly's brother had told her about. Her large, green eyes widened in amazement at the sights before her and her older brother, Peter Pan. Lush, bright green trees stood high from the ground, their muddy roots sticking up at odd angles from the earth they were trapped in. The sky was a shade of the brightest blue she had ever seen, its colour dripping all the way down to the end of the horizon, the rest of it being swallowed up by the vast ocean surrounding the island. Clouds made unimaginable shapes, cutting open the sky. Neverland was just as wonderful as Peter had describe it to be.
He told Reilly he visited the place in his dreams, and now finally, the two siblings were here.
"C'mon, Reilly! Let's explore!"
Peter grabbed her hand and pulled her behind him as he ran into the forest. Reilly giggled, gripping her brother's hand tightly as he led her through the vast forest.
Peter would always stay in front of Reilly, and whenever there was a branch hanging too low, or a thick root sticking from the ground he always made sure he turned around to warn her. He would turn to Reilly, a serious look on his face, as he made sure you made it over the obstacle safely. Peter was a very protective older brother, and its what caused the two to be so close. Even though Reilly was four years younger than him, the two were so similar, it was crazy. Reilly would do anything for Peter, and vice versa.
The two Pans were having a great time on the island. It was everything they expected and more. Reilly and Peter traveled through the thick forest, collecting small things like acorns and pretty leaves. At one point Peter lifted Reilly up off the ground so she could try and reach an perfectly red, gleaming. apple that hung off a high branch. Of course the two tumbled over, but just laughed. They passed through the Mermaid Lagoon, unfortunately not seeing any mermaids, but collecting their scales, hoping to see them soon. They traveled across rocky terrains, and of course Peter kept his hands tightly gripped around Reilly's, in case she lost her balance. Both of them were having the best time, and in Reilly's mind, it was only getting better because she was with her big brother.
The Pans were back into another part of the forest. It was spookier here, the wind picking up, blowing up their spines, causing goosebumps to form on their skin. The trees no longer looked as lush, as their brown and crusted leaves fell from the branches, blowing around Reilly and Peter as they began to walk. The moon had come again, and the soft light it illuminated was cut open by the trees splintering branches. Reilly bit her lip, her nerves standing up on edge. She glanced up at Peter, who had a look of slight confusion on his features. His green eyes were clouded over in thought, and his eyebrows were pulled together in a furrow on his forehead. Reilly gripped his hand tighter, pushing herself closer to his side to push him out of his trance and get warmer in the sudden chill.
"Peter... you never told me about this place in Neverland, where are we?" Reilly whimpered.
Peter released her hand and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, a stiff smile covering his features as he continued to take in the surrounds. Reilly could tell something was wrong with him, buy he wouldn't give it up that easily, for he never wanted her to worry. That's what big brothers were for.
"Well sis... I'm not to sure... I don't remember this part of Neverland in my dreams," Peter admitted.
"That's because we don't show this part in dreams, kid." A shiver of fear ran down Reilly's spine at the unfamiliar voice, while Peter quickly took action. He pulled her small form behind him, holding his arms out in a proactive stance as he glared at the unknown figure before the two.
It was a boy, probably the same age as Peter. His hair was a matted dirty blonde over his forehead, and he had dirt smudged all over his face and clothes. A club hung from his shoulder casually as he glanced at Peter with light brown eyes, and then down towards Reilly. His eyes narrowed when they locked with her own green ones, causing her to whimper softly in fear, causing Peter to growl in anger.
"Who the hell are you?" Reilly had never heard Peter swear before, and it made the fear inside of her bubble up even more. The boy chuckled, bringing the club down swiftly from his shoulder so he could lean on it.
"My what a temper... something i expected from you Pan, I'm Felix, by the way." The boy smirked as Reilly's and Peter's eyes widened. Somehow this random boy knew their last name, and it was starting to freak them out. Reilly clutched on to the back of Peter's shirt until her knuckles were white, causing the muscles in her fingers to strain. Peter kept his eyes glued to the savage boy before them two, his eyes narrowed and his body standing strong in its protective stance.
"What are you talking about? How do you know our last name?"
Felix just shook his head, a short chuckle escaping his lips as he did so. The loud cries of boys could be heard coming closer to where the three of them stood, and Reilly glanced around nervously waiting for the people coming closer to attack.
"We showed you the pretty parts of Neverland to lure you here... We need you Pan, your going to rule this place... but you weren't suppose to bring her."
The boy, Felix, once again glanced down towards Reilly, his eyes were as sharp as daggers as they burned angry holes into her skin. Peter growl once again and picked Reilly up to his chest, holding her tightly and protectively.
"Rule...? As in take charge? You must be damn insane, I'm only a bloody boy! And don't you dare talk to my sister that way!" Peter spoke fiercely, keeping his grip on Reilly tight as he held her in his arms. She whimpered softly once again, keeping her arms tightly wrapped around her brother's neck. Felix just smirked once again, turning his back towards the two. He nodded his head, a motion that meant to follow him.
"Oh Peter... You'll learn to accept your fate." The boy stepped into the bush, and just like that he was gone, disappeared in the sea of angry greens and browns. Peter sighed in frustration, gently placing Reilly back down on her feet. She tried to protest, fear still coursing through your body, but eventually she complied, holding his hand in a deathly grip instead.
"He probably didn't get to far... c'mon Riles. We got to find him." Peter began to walk forward, towards the spot where the boy had magically disappeared from sight, but she was glued in her spot, eyes wide in fear and shock.
"B-but Peter... why on earth would you want to follow that devilish boy?!"
Peter kept his eyes down casted, and without answering her question he pulled her along with him. This time Reilly didn't protest, for she never disobeyed Peter's rules. He was right most of the time anyway.
As soon as the two stepped out from underneath the bush, it was like they were magically transported. Before them stood an enormous fire, its bright flames licking up into the weary sky, as if trying to touch it. All around the fire was a camp, a camp filled with boys of many ages, races and sizes. Some were dancing around the fire, letting out whoops and cries as they bumped into one another, not having a care in the world. Others were putting up tents and creating weapons, while others were playfully fighting. Reilly glanced up at Peter and was shocked, for his eyes were filled with amazement and wonder. The fire roared out, and a small smile curled up on the corner of his lips. Reilly, on the other hand felt very uneasy. As far as she could see, there were no girls in the camp. She gripped onto to Peter, who was to distracted by the wonders he saw before him.
The boy who had stopped the two before, Felix, came out from the shadows, holding his arms up as if to show off the place. A large grin was plastered on his face as he looked towards Peter, and only Peter, ignoring your presences completely.
"Aye Peter... Welcome to Neverland"
Reilly was now seated on a log, Peter's jackets wrapped tightly around her shoulders as the cold winds began to pick up in Neverland. Even though she stood beside the warm and large fire, it didn't warm her up. For some reason it actually made her feel colder. Reilly watched in fear as her brother pranced around the fire, his cheers becoming louder than the rest. Face paint of dark colours obstructed his handsome features, and with the shadows casted over his face, it made him look like a completely different person, almost animalistic. This had to stop, all of this needed to end. Something wasn't right here, and Reilly could feel it deep within her bones, this aching feeling that was bubbling up inside of her.
She stood up from your place on the log and ran up to her brother, basically jumping into his arms as she did so. He looked confused as Reilly gripped him tightly, and he bent down a bit so the two were at eye level.
"P-peter.. i wanna go home..." Reilly said this softly, tears brimming her eyes as she looked Peter deep in the eyes. But the more she looked at him, the more she realized that her brother didn't quiet look like himself. His eyes were glazed over, almost looking grey instead of their usually bright colour. He scoffed, pushing Reilly's small form away from him. She let out a small gasp as she fell onto the muddy ground, staring up at her older brother in pure shock. Peter had his hands on his hips, a look of annoyance on his face.
"Well then go home! I'm having fun here!" After he spoke the lost boys all cheered behind him, coming up to his sides and chanting:
"GO HOME GO HOME."
Fear consumed Reilly's small body as the boys began to circle around her, their grins looking like shark teeth and their laughs sounding like devilish cries. All the while, the big brother Reilly loved so much stood in the center, laughing along with the savages as they scared the living day lights out of her. She couldn't take it anymore. Reilly let out a shriek, and ran off as fast as her little legs would take her into the unknown forest that was even more terrifying with the long shadows and eerie beast cries. The boys yelled in triumph, beginning their crazy dance around the fire once more. Peter did the same, never looking back to Reilly as he cried out in victory.
Night had fallen on Neverland, most of the boys had settled down in their tents, getting ready for sleep. The large fire was now nothing more than a small ember, glowing softly in the darkness. Peter though continued to dance around the small flame, the grin never leaving his face as he moved and jumped to the beat the lost boys had left stuck in his head. He only stopped his movement when a hand touched down on his shoulder. He turned, a glare in his eyes as he was about to rage at the person who had interrupted his lovely dance. Felix stood before him, a serious look plastered on his boyish face. Peter raised an eyebrow, and an uneasy feeling raised up through his body. He suddenly felt queasy, and swallowed down the ball that suddenly formed in his throat.
"Pan... Come with me."
That was all Felix had to say before Peter was on his tail, following him through the pitch black forest. Dread filled every part of Peters body, and he suddenly wished he had listened to his sister when she said she wanted to go home. He was no longer in this happy trance, reality had hit him hard in the back, sending waves of fear over his skin. Felix led him into a clearing, where the moon casted eerie shadows around the two boys, making it look like creatures of the night were scurrying around them. Before Peter could speak up and question Felix he pointed to the middle of the clearing, where a lump laid sprawled on the grassy ground.
Peters throat suddenly went dry, and all colour paled from his face as he slowly walked towards the lump. As he got closer he could see shoulder length brown hair sprawled around a young, innocent face, a face that resembled his all to well. Before he knew it he was running towards the lump, his knees sliding on moist grass beneath him as he kneeled next to the figure. Tears spilled from his eyes uncontrollably as he lifted the girl up onto his lap, finally revealing her face.
Peters beloved sister had a look of pure horror still painted on her face. Her skin was cold and as pale as ghost. A small trail of blood spilled from the corner of her pink lips, as her eyes were wide open in shock and fear. Her skin was littered with black marks, that almost looked like veins, and there was a hole through the small girls chest where blood had finally stopped oozing from, almost as if something had pierced her. Peters world came crumbling down around him as he screamed out in pure anger and sadness. He sobbed loudly, his body shaking as he held his dead sister tightly to his chest. Guilt over flowed his body, and caused him to vomit. If only he had listened to her, if only he had stayed by her side, if only he hadn't been so mean her...
Felix came up to stand beside Peter, a blank look on his face as he watched him unravel at the sight of his dead sibling.
"Those black marks on her skin, thats the cause of dreamshade, a deadly poison found all around this part of the island. She must have fallen into a branch that was covered in it... There was no way to save her."
Peter couldn't hear a word Felix said, all he heard replying in his head was his sisters voice desperately telling him how badly she wanted to go home. With the moon casting its light on her, Peter thought that she almost looked like a beautiful little angel. He continued to cry until his eyes finally ran out of tears, and his body was void of any feeling at all. His fingers shook as he stared down at his sister fear torn face, his body numbing all over. He raised a hand to her face and slide them over her eyes, gently closing them as he gently placed her body back onto the damp ground. He stood on wobbly feet and glanced at Felix. The older boy sighed and flicked his hand, so a small whole appeared beneath a tree. Peter grabbed Reilly and wrapped her in his coat, before setting her into the ground, and filling up the hole. Then, be reached into his pocket, pulling out the many items they had found on their lovely adventure. He placed each item down carefully around her grave. When he stood up completely, he glanced down at all the beautiful things placed around her grave. He turned from his the grave, his hands clenched now if the only emotion he could feel, hatred.
"You said you wanted me to rule, right? Well, thats what I'll do, I'll rule this place until I find a way to bring her back."
Peter stormed off back to camp, a dark aura rising up around his body as he did so. Felix watched him stalk off, a pleasant look on his face. Since Peter had lost his loved one, hate would now consume him and give him the ability to use dark magic, and it looked like it was already taking affect. Felix glanced down at the dead girl's grave behind him, and before he left, he added another item beside it.
An arrow, that had its pointed end covered in blood and dreamshade.
