What Are You Thinking?
What are you thinking,
With your incessant persistent drinking?!
I know your memory's not a sieve,
You must've had issues you haven't dealt with,
I believe alcoholism is a disease,
A slippery slope, lapse in mental health,
But for once, wake up, stop please!
Just pause and in the mirror look at yourself!
But that's just the thing isn't it?
You sober up briefly and the emotions hit,
Sadness, guilt, anger, embarrassment, shame,
You feel worthless, low and downright lame,
And you're back at it, full throttle,
Seeking solace at the bottom of another empty bottle.
Eat. Sleep. Drink. Repeat.
Constantly accepting defeat.
Each time you say you're going to break the cycle,
We're hopeful, yet sceptical, think you're taking the Michael.
You make excuses, push us away,
You say sorry, lead our emotions astray.
Your addiction will never have its fill,
What will it take for you to dig deep and find the will?!
Drink, hallucinate, pass out,
That's what you're about.
Your husband, your parents, your child,
You weren't always this selfish and wild.
What will it take,
For you to give up, forsake
The endless consumption of booze?
What will motive can be your muse?
A guzzling, chuntering trend,
When and where will it end?
With each happy family memory that is fab,
Every other echo is tainted with each bottle you grab.
For every cry for help Facebook status,
We all wish you'd take a permanent drinking hiatus.
Each time you drunkenly fall and yelp,
We plead and beg for you to get professional help.
Each bottle of wine seals your fate.
We implore you to stop before it's too late.
